Generally speaking you shouldn't be bossing people about, leader or not. I'm pretty sure the fact he stated he was softcapped at level 18 implies he knows what he is doing, ya know?

How many times did you die beforehand? It's a bad plan. As he said, learn the damn mechanics already. The aggro cap is 16. A single tank cannot reliably keep all 50+ mobs off you. SR has it even harder due to a lack of a taunt aura for tanks.

MA is also very much a single target set til higher levels. News flash. This is how you maintain aggro. You hit one or two targets at a time because when all you have is single target attacks....

So your excuse is that you were IC? This was all RP? Troll harder.

Because, you know, you clearly can read his chat logs and there's no way they would ever lie to you, ever.

And I'd bet you got the response of.... 'Meh.'

Oh no! A RPer! Shocking! Clearly people are not allowed to be IC ever!
Yeah, yeah...you guys got me on the roll/role. You're right. Must be awesome to never, ever mistype. Anyways...

1.Throwing out keywords like 'soft cap' and 'aggro cap' does not necessarily mean a given person is a good player. I'm not even saying this guy wasn't a good player. All I'm saying is lots of people throw around phrases like soft capped. As for bossing people around, maybe you didn't approve of my wording, so let's try this instead: When I'm on a team I try to not ignore the instructions of the leader and attempt to undermine his efforts by giving different instructions to the team. How's that?

    2. How many times did we die on the previous run? We didn't. That's the thing. We replaced a scrapper with a tank and went at it again. If we had considered either the difficulty, the team makeup or team ability to be an issue, we'd have lowered difficulty and went at it with another tactic.

    3. I'm aware of SR/'s lack of a taunt aura and I understand that in order to maintain mob aggro you need to continually swap targets (punchvoking). I saw the tank was SR/ (when he stated the softcapping business) and I was watching to see how that affected low level tanking. This is when I noticed that he was attacking 1, maybe 2 targets per mob. Holding aggro /=/ attacking 1 boss until it is dead. While focusing on a boss is great for most team efforts, a ST tank with no taunt aura needs to dish it out to everyone.

    4. I never claimed to be IC. I don't roleplay. It's not my thing. I'm ok with roleplayers so long as the "playing" part comes before the "role" part.

    5. So you are getting on my case because some of the teammates were playing both sides? With the responses I got in team chat, I'm genuinely surprised that they sent him tells saying anything. When you hear things like "Thank god he's gone" and "What was going through that guy's head?", I think its pretty normal to assume they aren't sending tells to that same person saying that they sympathize with him and the rest of the team is full of jerks.

    6. Finally, IC is fine. Everyone has fun their own way. For some it's roleplaying, for others its powergaming and for me its just playing with friends. In 5 years of playing CoH, I've only had issues with a small handful of roleplayers and that was because their role had a negative impact on the team. There are roleplaying sg's, teams geared towards roleplaying and entire channels dedicated to finding like-minded peoples with similar interests. When it comes to non-RP/PuG groups...dialing it back a touch would be appreciated. Thankfully, most roleplayers already do this and I get a long fine with them.

Honestly, like someone mentioned earlier, slight misunderstandings in tone could have started it all. I don't think this tank is a bad guy. I think it's a personality clash and thats all there is to it. *shrug*
  2. Hey! I'm so glad you brought this on to the forums and decided to completely ignore your roll in the situation.

Now, the problems began when we were facing the Pumicite swarms every 30 seconds. I was target-swapping so I could keep as many on me as possible. I told the team to find the rock piles while I held the groups so we could kill them without getting swamped. The team leader said we were going to take them all on, so I said "Sure, let's do it." The Ice corruptor immediately replied with "this tanker is ******* annoying the **** out of me" "mt". Yeah, alright, you have your little tantrum.

About 2 minutes after that the team was swamped by Pumicites and all but 3 of us were dead: myself, a Kat/Inv(?) Brute, and another SR user. The leader snarkily says "WTB something that can tank" and I pointed out to him that I was wayyy over the aggro cap. After about another 10 minutes of chomping down blues and punching things, everyone hosped and we waited.

We moved into the final room and a Pumicite lieutenant got stuck in the wall geometry, and I noted that I'd make a "rock and a hard place" joke if it wasn't so fitting. The team leader responded with "Oh yeah, you'd make that joke and it wouldn't be funny, like jokes are supposed to be." So I told the guy to loosen the hell up and quit the arc. I think Mr. Ice Corr was the team leader's friend and was encouraging the guy to be a total dick.

3 out of the remaining 7 on the team whispered me and told me they had no idea what the heck was in the leader's backside and apologized for him and the Ice corr.

I mean, seriously? You ***** at me for not holding aggro when you asked to take on about 9 ambushes? Learn game mechanics and don't be an idiot.

For the record I was having an absolute blast; I love that Tanker and how sturdy he is as a character and I love to take on the proverbial world. The team seemed just fine until the leader and his little buddy decided to mouth off and bite off more than they (not me, mind you) could chew.

Both players have been 1-starred in my notes and I've let my global buddies know about them.
You started of the mission by joining the team and making demands. Anyone want to talk about rude? Let's talk about the way that you behaved. Generally speaking I don't boss other people around when I'm not the leader.

It was the leader's desire to fight through (as we had done in the SSA run previous to you joining us. Primarily the same team makeup. YOU were the glaring change in the lineup). We fought on the same difficulty and intended to employ the same tactic. It worked well without a tank, it should work even better with a tank, right? Wrong.

You claim to have been swapping targets and trying to maintain aggro, which would've been awesome if you had actually been doing any of this. You were hitting 1, maybe 2 targets at a time. Aggro cap doesn't mean you're simply standing in the middle of a large group of enemies. It means you are actually maintaining the aggro.

As for saying "sure! let's do it!" after the team leader said we were going to fight through, hahahahahah. ha. ha. He said we were going to fight through, at which point you said 'seriously, go find the piles'. If I remember correctly (and I can consult the chatlogs if you wish) you stated 3 seperate times to run off and find the piles. It was clearly stated that this was a steamroll run. You must've been pretty serious because you even went out of character for that one. That was when I grew irritated.

When I recruit for an STF or any TF in general I start with an open call. The first few people to respond have a spot. The remaining 3 spots or so exist to fill out the holes in the existing team. I'm never saying I always need an emp over a stormy or a fire blaster over a peacebringer. I will however exclude a character if it makes the team unbalanced. If I already have a thermal on the team and a handful of damage dealers, I'm excluding everything in search of debuffs. I'm not taking "uber" over average. I'm taking what will make the team more effective.

There are people that will take any character and there are people that are hyper specific about what they want. The fact of the matter is the leader is taking the initiative to form the task force and they can make their team however they please. If people take issue with how I (or anyone else) operate....if they are upset because I didn't want to take a petless mastermind along with me then....that person can make their own team and take whoever they want.

Personally, I think both extremes are silly. The hyper specific leaders just don't know enough to improvise and the people that take anyone aren't setting themselves up for success. The STF needs debuffs and damage. Everything after that is just gravy.
  4. i'm not hurt as i neither pvp nor badge hunt. i just think its lulzy watching someone get excited over a badge achieved in such a lame manner.
  5. I really don't get what all the whining is about. Between the forums and in-game, I'm totally flabbergasted.

The STF is not difficulty so long asyou approach it with a balanced team and players that understand how to play their character. You don't *need* a stone tank and you dont *need* an emp, etc. It isn't an elitest challenge. It's the ultimate hero task force challenge. Considering 98% of the game is accessible to everyone, I really don't see the issue. Forming the TF requires that you understand what is about to be thrown at you and finding suitable combinations of different characters that will help you achieve your goal.

Last night we went at the STF with an invul/ tank, kin, dark and storm. We also had 2 blasters, a stalker and a new player logoff after the 1st mission and never come back because he didn't understand what a TF was. Is that the ideal? Not even close. Still finished in under an hour and a half. I would say roughly half the team wasn't IO'd and maybe 3 people had their alphas. It certainly wasn't the prettiest run I've ever been on but the players more or less understood their characters.

For those of you failing for reasons other than people quitting or crashing.....I really don't understand how. The people forming tf's just need a grasp of what they are trying to accomplish. That means there is quite a bit of leeway with what you can bring along, but you might have to turn a few people down.

The system isn't elitest. It's realistic.
  6. hooray!

congratz on cheesing your way to disrupter. its feels so much better when you dont actually have to earn it, doesnt it?

    Radio Virtue

Well, during the course of the day I think I have thoroughly irritated half of the virtue channel mods with my accidental off-topic chatter and coming from Freedom, the land of the off-topic chat channels, I miss having that a great deal....

So I took it upon myself with a couple of friends to try out something a little different. We created Radio Virtue. A place for forming tf's, teams, asking questions about the game and general off-topic chitchat. It's how I enjoy playing the game and I'm sure there are others out there that feel the same way. After inquiring in-game, it seemed as though any existing channels that function similarly are at capacity.

If anyone is interested in joining, the channel is public or you can ask me in-game for an invite. Happy double xp!

    @Sixy
  8. Heya DrGemini!

I vaguuuuely remember you from Triumph. I left a few years back for much the same reasons. I'm currently splitting my time between Virtue and Freedom but I have a general chat channel running that we use for shooting the **** and getting together tf's and regular mission teams. If you are interested, the channel is call "Miscellaneous" and there are quite a few Triumph outcasts from years past in there. I'll be on later tonight and maybe I'll pester you a bit in-game.
  9. So, with the recent influx of new and returning players I figured I'd throw this out there again.

I, along with a few of my cohorts, created a global channel for the formation of teams and tf's as well for general chat. The channel is intended to be a smaller, more intimate group of players that frequently team together. Since I last posted about the channel, we have grown quite a bit and now also include a super group dedicated specifically to players in the channel. The channel ranges from casual players to min-maxers and a handful of pvpers, but the key is that the channel is not for the faint of heart. There is mature language from time to time (and by "time to time" i mean most of the time). >.>

Anyways, if you are interested in checking us out, you can type /chan_join "miscellaneous"

or hit a mod in-game for an invite. (@sixy or @civility)

Not like I don't form a craptop of TFs. Instead anyone who likes to team and PvE with me either Red or Blueside please pop me a PM and I'll see about getting you into my channel instead.

I kinda feel the need to reiterate this sentiment and like Civ said, we do have our own quiet little channel that we start the formation of all of our tf/sf's/raids in. Most of people people on the freedom forums are in my "like" column so if you have a free channel spot and wanna check us out, pm me (@sixy) and we'll get you an invite.

Drama is as drama does, so in an attempt to avoid more issues I'm just gonna go back to focusing on my thang. With having a set group of people that are mods in almost every global channel on a given server, there are bound to be issues.

Thanks for listening to my little rant earlier in the thread.
  11. it was the "Freedom" channel and then things spilled over into Freedom TF
  12. What happened was:

A mod in the Freedom chat was saying that he'd kick or ban people from the channel if they wouldnt help him find info on an old sg or something. He got called out on using the channel for personal gains and being inappropriate....

30 minutes later @civility was kicked from the channel despite not saying anything. when i responded saying "that was out of line" i too was kicked. the channel was turned private and the mods followed us to another channel to taunt us.

basically its a buncha ******** mods powertripping again. i should be use to it by now.
  13. just to reiterate, N P C is a great channel to join as a new player with questions. It doesnt matter how sporadic your play time is (i'm a mentor and have some of the most sporadic playtime in the history of freedom). someone is pretty much always around to answer questions and if you need help with something, you can hit me up in-game @sixy

i also have a global channel with some friends that are based out of freedom that are usually around to answer questions and there is almost always a team or two running, however, some of them are....a little "rough around the edges". feel free to /chan_join "miscellaneous"

    And herd....?
  16. Ex trolled my personal email.

    Congratulations on being old.
  17. Thanks for the replies. He has updated the support ticket several times but he hasn't received an email. I have however received some response after this posting of this thread. Mostly the "escalating" thing. I do still find it odd that he hasn't received any response yet though.
  18. i didnt say it was "my" account. it's my boyfriend's account. i'm posting on his behalf being as he can't use the forums due to the account issue.

but i shall see you in rf2009.
  19. i get that billing and support isn't in until monday. my issue is that the account deactivated. was then reactivated and playable for a whole day and then deactivated again.

again, i could be wrong but to me, that doesnt seem to be an accounting issue. that seems like an issue with the game.
  20. but according to their records the account is paid up....so that means there is an issue with the game, no?
  21. Do they exist at all?

I've been trying for the past 24+ hours to resolve an issue with an account through a multitude of avenues (both conventional and not) and have at the very best received a "Thank you for your patience."

This isn't the first time I've struggled with the support staff and I've tried to remain calm throughout the process but their delayed responses have resulted in several days of missed game play due to issues on their end and it is starting to get frustrating.

I understand that over the weekend there is probably a smaller support staff but wouldn't an issue that complete prevents a player from playing the game they pay for take priority?

The issue we are having is that we received notice that our account was about to lapse so we resubbed. Everything was fine and dandy for about a day and while logging to switch characters, something happened and a warning popped up that our account has lapsed and we needed to resub. The plaync site says the account is playable until mid-august and the appropriate funds withdrew from our checking account. Has anyone else had this issue or something similar to it?

This thread will probably receive a lot of negative responses but this is so thoroughly frustrating. I just want to know if other people have had these issues as well. The few times I have dealt with support in the past they have been helpful, but over the past month or two, every encounter has just ended in frustration.

    Hey guys!

hm...never heard of this freedom tf chat channel. sounds interesting.

if you are looking for a channel to chitchat, my sg/coalies/friends use Miscellaneous. We can get a bit rowdy from time to time but its a good group of people with some really knowledgeable vets. if you have any questions, you can hit me up in-game.

rf2009 is also a pretty good channel for random chitchat, as well as finding teams and tf's.

    @sixy
  23. So I spent a good 20 minutes forming a Silver Mantis SF this afternoon and when we were finally underway I found that I was unable to load into any missions. My team had no issues zoning in and out. The cursor would appear as the hourglass and it would seem like i was about to load in, but nothing would happen. I restarted CoH a few times to try and verify files and even restarted my computer but to no avail. They completed the first mission without me with hopes of the problem being fixed with the 2nd mission.

Same issue again. The team could load in but I was unable to. We agreed to quit the SF and restart, so I tried to quit and instead of quitting the team, it crashed me and I am unable to log back on to the character.

    Good times all around.
  24. _Sixy_

    So....

it was hardly even drama. if i had a dollar for everytime ive been silenced in a channel.....i'd never have to pay for coh.
