I always presumed that the submissions of all the architect files was just so they had a static copy that couldn't be changed after submission, to judge. If it were the actual in game files, they can be altered, republished, or taken down at any time, which opens the door for all sorts of challenges and problems (ie people saying something was or was not in their arc, claiming someone altered or vandalized it through account hacking and requesting a re-do, etc.)
With a submitted copy, the were assured to have the exact verison of the story that was intended for them to recieve - and no changes or other funny business could then take place in regards to the arc between recieving it and judging, unless it was from their own end. -
Quote:Actually most marvel comics these days have ads for cars, T and M video games, MMOs, and DVD box sets. I opened a random issue of Nextwave to make sure I wasn't hallucinating, and the ads are, in order (not counting the ads for their own comic books in their own comic books):
They're not being bought by more adults and fewer children in the first place. If they were they'd have more ads for Rogaine and fewer for Hot Wheels.
Killzone Liberation for XBox
Animaniacs box set (no "kids" today would even know who they are as the series ended 14 years ago, and has been off the air for 10)
Age of Empires III for Xbox
Magic The Gathering Ad
World of Warcraft Ad
Nissan Sentra car Ad
Superman 1-4 box set (with over 20 hours of special interviews!)
Final Fantasy V Advance for DS (remake of a 17 year old game, again nothing any kids now would immediately identify with)
Gears of War for Xbox (rated M for mature!)
Nextwave is arguably one of their sillier, more 'kiddish' titles, so I though it'd be a good example as it's not part of all the 'mature' stuff like Civil War and whatnot.
I grabbed another issue off the shelf at random and did another run, this time for the X-Force remake, a blatantly 'extreme 90s' comic pandering unashamedly to the teenage need for blood, explosions and boobs plastered all over ever page. Ads this time were:
Afro Samurai on Spike TV
Hardcover Edition of Stephen King's "The Stand"
Halo Wars for XBox
Old Spice body wash
(and again, a bunch of ads for their own comics, a circular thing)
...Hotwheels and barbie dolls, indeed.
I could keep doing it if those aren't enough, or even start taking requests =) -
Quote:Are you serious? Wow. This string of replies is the first time I've ever posted in one of his review threads, ever. The only other time I've ever directly responded to anything he's said about blight was in the blight thread...OVER THREE MONTHS AGO....Why are you here?
You've got a guy who absolutely despises your arc and uses it as a baseline example of the worst excesses of MA, and you're reading his thread and replying to his posts just like his fanboyish hangers-on.
He has a right to an opinion. You have a right to respond to it... but posting something every time he mentions it doesn't make you any more mature than he, and in fact it shows an alarming lack of emotional self-sufficiency on your part that ONE person thinking your arc is bad has gotten this much of your attention. I mean, your arc won a freakin award for heavens sake but you're STILL jeering at Venture? Really?
Ok, I got an idea. Hey Venture, remember how you hated my arc? Use THAT as a baseline for crap. I could use the publicity!
I have LITERALLY ignored him, refused to respond to him, and stayed the hell away from him for over three months, and it's him, not me, him, that keeps bringing it up again and again. The only reason, as I've stated, I bothered posting anything at all, is because I am still being harassed in game because of the drama, and asked him to STOP provoking people.
Apparently though, trying to completely ignore him and having it make the problem perpetuate, then, asking him to stop because it only creates drama, which I am NOT EVEN DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN, but filters to me as owner of the arc, after IGNORING HIM FOR THREE MONTHS, is 'jeering at him and hanging on like some kind of fanboy'.
It's pretty disgusting when someone can try to ignore the problem, but when it doesn't work and they make a plea for the other side to stop perpetuating this idiocy, they're now the bad guy. That's pretty twisted. -
Don't the EU servers have their own separate staff though? If anything, EU players should complain to those staff members about not having similar contests, not the NA staff, who are legally powerless to do much here. If an EU player is using the NA servers instead of their own, which they have to buy a foreign copy of the game in order to do, that's not really the fault or responsiblity of the NA staff.

Dude, seriously...let it go.

In like five years of buying comics weekly from the two major comics stores around where I live, I don't think I've ever seen more than maybe a half-dozen people under the age of 25 in either store, ever. All the kids buy manga and anime these days, not american comic books. Maybe it's different up here in Canada though, but it was generally really really bizarre to see kids in the comic stores, as weird as that may sound. Even on free comic book day it'd be like, the little kids of the adults there, who had come to buy and pick up comics for themselves, not for their kids.

Dr. Aeon called me on the phone, in character, to congratulate me and to confirm my address and contact info. "Hi <name>, this is Dr. Aeon..."
That right there was just about the greatest surprise of this whole thing.
Congratulations to the other winners! -
That would be fantastic, Eva. I really hope that's the case, since it's a huge problem right now enticing people to play a lot of arcs in AE as the current situation is that either your enemies are comparable to high-end in game factions but are worth less XP, or they're worth full XP but basically impossible for certain ATs to play, and even all ATs in certain combinations
-
Quote:a) It was clearly stated IIRC that the Arc of the Year would be chosen from the winners of the other categories minus Best Faction.Quote:
6. Arc of the Year: This final, and pinnacle award, will be selected from all of the submitted arcs for the other five categories. -
His comment about not being diverse or balanced doesn't even make that much sense anyways, seeing as it has 9 different custom enemies in it, none of which have an identical powerset primary/secondary combo to any others (and only a couple share one or the other).
Plus, the enemies are balanced enough that the arc's been finished (off the top of my head) solo by a level 12 mastermind, solo by a 26 defender, a solo 50 scrapper set to 8/+1, team of 5 set to +2s, and team of 8 set to +0s, and that's just the ones I KNOW about, and the only complaint I've ever got about their difficulty was that if too many of the thermal lieuts spawn it can make the fight a little long if they all stack shields on the boss. I've actually retooled the powersets of the entire group like, three times to get them to where they are.
I won't even go in to why they look like they do because Lazarus told me the excuse I gave him last time basically didn't count and that he refused to accept it, so he's obviously not interested in understanding why, anyways. I dunno, I guess some people just like to dump on other people's successes -
Quote:Wow, trashing the winners on the thread celebrating the win.So apparently to win Best Enemy Group yours has to be as nonsensical and simultaneously forgettable as possible, using the same few critters over and over. Groups that are actually diverse and balanced are right out.
...
Nevermind, we never got any sensible answers last time around.
It's like I'm reading the reply of the Kanye West of City of Heroes. Stay classy, Lazarus. -
Quote:Seriously, nothing would make me happier in the world. Venture knows that just mentioning this arc now creates a dramastorm, so why do it? If the arc was never mentioned again I would be utterly ecstatic because then maybe the drama about it would finally END.The best solution, at least for the rest of us, is to simply ignore both of you.
Of course, a call to stop the drama by outside forces that I'm stuck in the middle of will probably just get called an attempt to keep the drama so that people can appear 'neutral' by taking the exact middle stance between us, but seriously now. Venture's beef isn't with me, it's with the people who liked the arc, and vice versa, and now I'm caught in the middle of it and things like what he's done in this thread aren't helping.
Yes, I came to post here, because once again, someone on the boards has done something that has created a headache for ME in game, outside of my control. Asking for people to stop fuelling the drama that any sane person would have already given up on a long time ago shouldn't make me a villain.
I tried shutting up about it, for three months, even. It did nothing. If being silent about it doesn't work, then what other options do I have? -
Quote:I read the thread because I was linked to it by a coalition-mate.If he's making your play experience that miserable, click his name, go to his profile, click "User lists" and put him on ignore. Then go in-game and /gignore @Venture. There. Now you can enjoy the free publicity his slamming of your arc has given it and never again have to read another word he says about you.
Although if he makes you that miserable, I have to wonder why you read his thread.
Regarding ignoring him - if only it were that easy. He personally doesn't have to do anything any more aside from stir the pot like this, and he doesn't talk to me directly in game. It's the ripple effect that creates the drama. Every time this happens, I get another wave of people raging on BOTH sides of the arugment - either tearing me a new one about how horrible my arc was, venture was right, etc., or trumpeting that Venture was wrong and they will avenge my honor or whatever...by constantly bringing it to the forefront over and over, he's ensured others will do his dirty work pesterng me, it seems.
Ignoring Venture using game tools would literally do nothing to stop this and how it affects me when in the game, since that's not how the miserably is spread. As I said, this is the first time I've ever even responded in one of his threads - attempting to ignore him entirely has done literally squat to stop the problem. -
Wait, so if I read your response right, you're upset because people who are not me put some tags you don't like on your thread and continued to make comments defending the arc?
So you're going to keep driving this into the ground, and refuse to move on with your little grudge towards me...because of actions of people who are not me, and not affiliated with me, who did something in your threads? That's really even worse, because it means you've now moved into the territory where you're being petty towards me for something I DIDN'T EVEN DO.
...
Here's my theory on why I honestly think Venture will never let this go, so long as Blight remains online. Obviously, Venture is a smart individual. He possesses lucidicy, cunning, and analytical skills. AE was new, and he was on a roll reviewing, but how to push it up to the next level, become a big name, so to speak? Simple, pick a high profile target and go comically opposing to popular consensus to create a buzz.
Blight may not be the perfect arc, but at the time, it was on page 1 of AE and rising rapidly. People obviously liked it. People still obviously like it, as it's still the fourth highest play/vote ratioed non-player's choice arc, and is a nominee for the AE awards contest by the devs. The author barely posts on the boards and isn't well known. Perfect choice for this idea.
The next part is easy. Test the waters to get a reaction - post '-5 stars' on the arc's praise thread, and message 'Your arc committed a litany of sins to great to list' to the writer. You got a reaction! Good, now to build the 'controversy'. No matter what the arc does, no matter how it does it, it is wrong, even if other arcs do it and you PRAISE them for doing it. Every enemy has custom bios, all text fields filled out with gramatically correct, relevant material? Too bad 1 star. Level range consistent and enemies balanced? Too bad, 1 star. Unique mission using objectives cleverly? Too bad, 1 star. etc. etc. When backed into a corner, start making things up, anything, to justify how absurd your position is - "your arc didn't follow proper US government hazmat procedures and is therefore 1 star", "I don't care if AE is innately non-canon, your arc isn't canon, 1 star", "you used an anagram, 1 star" and so on. Harp on it ENDLESSLY.
It pushes both him, and the arc into the spotlight, and is win/win for him. If he demolishes the arc by constantly dumping on it and influencing others to do so, he's eliminated some front-page competition (second page now). If he doesn't, then it stays prominent due to the exposure, giving him something to rage against with a steady stream of people he now knows will react to his actions whenever things die down, creating more instant spotlight, more drama that people will check out, which of course means more views to his thread and more attention.
The fact he is basically making my play experience utterly miserable for something beyond my control is inconsequential to him at this point, as it's pretty apparenty that even if I took the arc down (actually, especially if I did given how high profile it is) people would still react to his seemingly unending slamming of it. And that's what he wants, the reaction. The arc could have been any arc, really.
I haven't even touched the arc since July, and I am still getting Venture drama for it. Drama perpetuated by him, which falls on me, over the actions of people who I've never met, have no control over, and in all likeliehood probably don't even play on the same server as me. I'm basically just a bystander caught in the crossfire at this point, and every time it starts to quiet down, it happens AGAIN. -
Wow, you just can't let it go, can you? How many months ago did you have your cryfest about this arc, literally introducting me to yourself out of the blue with one of the rudest tells I've ever gotten in game, and then some of the follow up.
Grow up, man. I've never seen a supposedly 'mature' individual hold a grudge over something this petty and self-inflicted. I could have cared less about what you thought of the arc, except YOU chose to make a huge production about it, and apparently, STILL carry some sort of weird grudge I don't even understand.
I've never even posted in your review threads before now, and I've never so much as once sent you a tell in game, ever, but seriously, you're just being childish at this point.
I fail to see why you apparently care SO MUCH about this arc that you are still making pathetic pot shots at it, even now. I can only assume it's because you want to get a reaction out of people, as an attention thing or something. -
Samuel, ultimately, I see your plan for a Leader being literally simply just a scrapper/brute type who gets his or her armor benefits from the pets, rather than toggles. Ultimately, the playstyle would be no different except that your defenses would have HP totals instead of endurance costs, if I am reading that right. Really, at that point, you're just playing a standard melee character that already exists, except with the added pain of having to micromanage a bunch of pets to get any of the benefits those classes get with a simple button click.
The Leader as I presented it was at least a take comparable to one already in the game - much like a Dominator is, in oversimplifying terms, a controller-type who can fight instead of buff, the Leader is a mastermind-type who can fight instead of buff, since it is nigh-impossible to make a MM who is focused on personal offense. Making the pets into your personal buffbots instead of keeping their offense just makes the class into scrappers who can...get protections from their seconday.
I also don't get why you're being so needlessly antagonistic here, but whatever. You twist words around (like claiming I said the Leader 'needed' Tier 3 insprations or was balanced around them), ignore what I typed and then just retype the same thing as if it was your own idea and insinuating the exact same thing I typed was wrong, or when called on it, just outright changing your stance to the complete opposite (they need armors! Oh wait, you said that? No! they don't need armors!) to keep up some sort of argument. You repeatedly ignore that the original post outright says numbers are generalizations and not to be taken as gospel, hard numbers, but continue to harp on exact modifiers for damage. You're completely inconsistent too - in the same post you will argue that the archetype would be completely unworkable and worse off than blasters in survivability, and then in the exact same post say they would be horribly overpowered tank mages. Which is it?
You don't want to play the Leader as I presented it, I get that, but you keep harping on all these ideas you have to completely, and utterly change it from the design, to some radically different one you have. That's not constructive, and it doesn't help refine the class, it's just repeatedly harping about how it's all 'wrong' for your vision and needs to be made into something that in no way resembles what it is. Without trying to sound completely crass, if you want something so utterly, radically different, energy would be better spent writing up an archetype that actually DOES those things, rather than arguing such sweeping changes to another one which uses a completely different concept.
Did I do something in the past to upset you or something? There's a difference between offering up constructive suggestions, and outright just making things up/obviously not reading the posts to start arguments, or arguing a completely different tangent (ie making up radically new powers/pets instead of using existing sets in new and creative ways) than the original post.
This was supposed to be a thread on using the existing AT powersets and frameworks to create new ATs to fill gaps, and has been completely derailed now into the Samuel_Tow 'make up completely and radicallly different powersets than exist in game and change the entire intended point of the thread' hour. -
While I agree that support pets would be an interesting concept, the idea here was to give players new playstyle options using the existing power frameworks that are actually in the game - basically, what don't we have as an option *using what is in the game right now*. Yes, you could have a zillion types of new ATs with their own crazy or new setups, but the idea here was to create new options that use existing sets in the game in new and interesting ways.
Adding completely new things, like support pets, both deviates from this idea, as well as just exacerbates the problem of not fully utilizing what's already in game - add buffing/support pets, and now it becomes 'why don't we have a defensive support pet class, or a crowd control support based pet class' etc., when the idea here was just to attempt a new take on what's already there - the most effective way to add new arechtypes without having to massive code new content into the game.
I apologize if I didn't communicate that effectively in the original post - my intent was to remedy holes in current playstyles with creative use of existing content. -
Quote:But...they do? Except for the hit points, I covered all of that in the original post, exactly as you said...Call the first one Assault and give the Leader Stalker/Dominator damage mods. I'd put them both at 1.0. Give him Blaster hit points, Stalker/Scrapper defence numbers, but severely limit his self-protection powers. Where a Stalker or a Scrapper would have a full set devoted to self-protection, a Leader would have only two or three powers, so that's where balance comes in. AVOID giving him any kind of Bodyguard (not that you do) and he should be fine.
Quote:Secondarily, I hold a firm belief that if we'll make a character go into melee, that character has to either have protection, or have VERY serious damage. Even with Assault sets, that remains an important point. Generally speaking, you contradict your own intention by making this supposedly proactive character into effective team support.
Furthermore, it IS possible to make a class get a greater benefit specifically from a pool power - all that you would have to do is add a qualifier to the power that checks 'if archetype = Leader, add this additional effect', or one of many other possible workarounds. You also say giving them high leadership mods would make powers such as Weave stronger - this is flat-out wrong. Tankers have the same mod as Defenders on Weave, but the mod of Scrappers on Maneuvers.
Quote:Charisma is terrible both in terms of yield and in terms of character definition. We're building the Leader to be a proactive, aggressive individual who leads by example, and we give him a team-support role?
As 'Character Definition' goes - the leader should do exactly that, lead by example. How is it not character-defining for a "leader" to go 'look I am inspired to deal tons more damage, or dodge all attacks, follow my lead and you can too?'. That's what the inherent does, and it's more or less the definition of leading by example.
As far as terrible yield...eating 1 tier 3 yellow and 2 tier 3 reds (or double that number of tier 1s) matches the bonus to pets given by Supremacy. Given that you can do between 3-7x that if you empty out your tray (and it still buffing yourself) AND have the advantage of not just being able to buff accuracy and damage, but also survivability, heal them, give them mez protection, give them endurance...as well as to your team, I want to see what you consider an impressive yield.
Quote:The point of a Leader, as viewed through a heroic lens, is to lead by example, and in order to do this, you need to build him as a strong fighter FIRST and a team support SECOND.
Quote:In fact, in the absence of Mastermind attacks, I'd give the leader straight-up shields and self protection in his secondary set.
Quote:Generally speaking, if we want to make a truly new AT, we can't follow the framework of existing pet ATs. A Leader needs to be built strong and sturdy on his own merits, with followers only serving to help. We need to step away from the preconception that a pet AT HAS to be weak and supportive to account for its having pets that do all the work. Indeed, we have to step away from the preconception that just the mere fact of HAVING pets means they WILL do all the work.
I don't really know what you're arguing against here, except that you seem to have taken the exact writeup I wrote for Leader, and then going 'this is all wrong, do it THIS way' and then literally typing EXACTLY what I wrote for leader. It boggles the mind. -
Quote:That would indeed be pretty cool. Considering how many MMs don't know how to effectively use Bodyguard, something like this which is comparable in complexity would probably need a big popup for players explaining it, like MMs get, that of course nobody will read. :P But yeah, I think that would definitely enhance their tactician feel I was going for a lot.Hmm...rather than true Bodyguard mode, perhaps something could be done with the inherant itself. When in Attack, specific insps like reds affect your pets more, Defense would have different preferences, etc. This way, you get a bit more out of the pet stances than just the default AI.

Quote:I quite like the idea of ensuring every Oppressor has a personal buff/heal as an option, regardless of set. That would go a long way to helping them early on. I don't want to give them too much control or buffs, though, so a fear might be overdoing it. My biggest fear is that if you make them too powerful, then the tradeoff between the safety of the Corruptor vs the Oppressor goes out of whack, which makes Corruptors less desireable to play. Fear in Undermine might work great though, that's a good suggestion and definitely would help them against tougher foes.I think the first buff available may have to be a personal buff in order to increase survivability. The inherant may need to have a built in to-hit buff (so that you hit more as more surround you). Also, taking the Stalker train of thought, you may want for each primary to have a set ST Fear at specific levels (similar to Placate) so that aggro is a bit more managable. Or you could add a chance to Fear in the Undermine power you created for the secondaries. When proliferated over, the melee sets may want to concentrate more on the control aspects (stuns, KB) to add to the needed survivability in melee.
Leader really can't have Scrapper level survivability due to pets. However, one intriguing idea is to leave Bodyguard mode in but make the pets substantially weaker in HP than MM pets. This follows the "lead by example" concept by giving you a buff for having pets but not allowing you to rely upon them like a MM would since they'll be more squishy. Since it isn't a Dominator, you could easily add Assault Rifle to the assault sets.
Instead of changing Thugs to Heroes, you should change Thugs to Freedom Fighters. Seems like it would be much closer in theme overall. Likewise, it seems like (benevolent) Spirits would be more in line with Necromancy than Vikings.
I don't really want to give the Leader Bodyguard mode - my thoughts on this are, combined with their already semi-decent personal protections, and higher damage, it would potentially unbalance them - they'd be able to pseudo-tank which I feel makes them too sturdy, and because they kill things faster than a MM, would also turn them into a sort of powerhouse since while the pets die faster, so do the enemies.
I would LOVE an assault rifle Assault set. A mix of AR and Devices/MA powers would be absolutely fantastic, and great for natural characters. That's more for a thread on new powersets though - I tried to present these within the current framework of the game, so I refrained from suggesting new sets as well - just changes that would be required of the old ones.
Einherjar was just a suggestion - I agree benevolent spirits would work, but my problem with that was just that you still have the problem of the zombies - and undead being traditionally not a very heroic thing to haul around. With Einherjar, my thoughts was you get the big back-from valhalla viking warriors instead of zombies (which fits the mythological theme of a lot of the game) who when they fall, you raise as warrior spirit types (fitting the viking theme and letting Grave Knight work thematically), you get the sword-weilding Valkyries so Grave Knights wouldn't have to be really changed in powers, and could have a sorceror instead of the lich without it straining credibility or feeling like you're playing an 'evil' set the way Necromancy often feels. Again, just my thoughts on it, and it's purely an arbitrary one based on personal preferences.
Thank you for the comments and feedback, it's appreciated! -
As an on-topic aside, if these ATs did exist, I would play the heck out of a Viking-themed Electric Assault/Einherjar Thor or Odin type, and a Kinetics/Katana alternative 'speedy' ninja character as a contrast to the 'sneaky' ninja of a Ninja Blade/Ninjitsu stalker. Radiation Emission/Super Strength would probably be really fun too, if for nothing else than the mental image of a giant, screaming musclebound abomination spraying deadly radioactive energy from his body uncontrollably.
-
While I appreciate the feedback, I had to wonder at points if you even read the post completely.
Here's my thought proccesses behind some of your points (obviously, still just my opinion of course) or notes where you missed something. Just found some things that made me go 'huh?' or made me double check that I did in fact include something you seemed to have missed. Don't mean it to sound snarky or anything in this reply, so please don't take it that way. We're all friends here.
- The Leader requiring more damage to survive - this is a red herring - defenders would deal less damage than a Leader would, and they work just fine. Yes they have buffs, but many cannot be used on self, and the leader would still get both defensive powers and pets fairly early on. I see no need to give them uber damage.
- Pets WOULD be weaker than MM pets. As you noted, you get them later, and you do not have access to Supremacy. That means they're hitting 10% less and dealing 20% damage right out the gate, and as a secondary set they would further be reduced, as a common sense thing for how secondaries are for every class except Dominator.
- Leaders do not have Bodyguard mode. It says this right in the original post (it says specifically they lack Supremacy, Bodyguard is part of Supremacy.)
- Healing power early on? It says right in the spot where the replacement powers are noted that the powers there are presented in no particular order. I never stated at any point what level the heal would be awarded, so it's sort of a moot point.
- Protections less than a scrapper. I think that it's pretty apparently already the case. As for PBAOE for pets...the only armor buff they'd get that would apply to the pets is the alternate Res leadership toggle they get. Compare this to what a thermal MM can do.
- If anything, compared to some Arachnos Soldier builds, the Leader would be definitely more fragile. I think you feel that Leader would be uber because you think the pets would be MM strength, and because you wanted them to do scrapper level damage on top of that - which would just be brokenly strong, and silly.
- I don't get where you think the Oppressor would be an uber squishy build. Compare them as written to a Dominator or Corruptor. Dominators deal more damage, can completely control their foes, and have pets. Corruptors would deal comparable damage with Scourge, and have the advantage of being able to use almost all their powers from a safe range. If anything, it would be harder to play than either of those classes. (As an aside, I play villains more than heroes.)
- Oppressor inherent being too strong - a Sonic Resonance defender, or Dark Miasma corruptor can already get far superior self protection to anything Shock and Awe provides, and that's independant of team size, or number of enemies nearby, to say nothing of other sets. Even with the full 8 foes (which, if you've played shields, you can empathize how hard it is to consistently keep that many enemies in melee range at times), with their squishy level HP, they'd still be taking far more than enough damage to sink them under direct fire - not uber at all. By comparison, their best-case scenario protection possible is about the same protection as a low (20 or lower) level Electric Armor stalker who does not use hide or placate, and who has all foes in melee at all times. I don't really see that as uber, but that's my take.
- As for soloing, Defenders solo just fine, have even less protections and less damage than the Oppressor would. Yes, they have range, but the higher damage means they also have to spend less time comparatively in the actual danger of combat. The reason, as noted in the post, for the sliding scale on their inherent is so that they do remain playable without being overpowered, depending on team size, of which solo is a team size. I don't see them being any harder to solo than a defender or corruptor, ultimately. As for getting a decent chain going - again, they are no different than defenders in this respect.
- I don't really see how these are "quite similar" to existing ATs, as you mentioned? There are no classes in the game that would really play out at all like either of these - there is no current way to get controllable pets and high levels of personal offense anywhere in the game, and while it IS technically possible to play a mastermind who is at the forefront of combat, it won't be in an attacking role like a Leader would. Similarly, there is no melee buffing class in the game, on either side. You can't even fake it, except maybe by making a VEAT that takes only their melee attacks, and that's still not even really comparable.
- I don't get where the Kheldian comment comes from? The post states what bonuses a Kheld gets when teamed with these classes - this one is just strange. -
-
I think it may just be a case of differing playstyles. I've found no real issues with it aside from endurance - it's just a different mindset. Similar to a Stone brute, you take a more tankerish role than a scrapperish one - yes you deal less damage, but you have more survivability instead (via your controls in Dark's case). Obviously, it can't match the insanity that is Granite form, but it's hardly fragile.
-
To be fair, Dark Armor has the potential to remove incoming attacks on a scale much more intense than Ice Armor ever could, and Brutes not only get that set, but seem to do fine with it, so I'm highly dubious Ice Armor would be unplayable.
It has a single power that slows the recharge of its foes by 32%, and no other powers whatsoever that would affect fury generation while fighting (except of course Hibernate, but you're not attacking either, so it's a moot point), while Dark Armor has a stealth, a fear and a disorient, all of which potentially eliminate the incoming fury completely, rather than just reduce it like Ice does.
