Quote:Wow... so 6 years of loyalty to the game, over $3000 spent, and I get...
NOTHING
Not even a refund on the points I bought just a few months ago.
Wow. Just wow. It's like they are going out of their way to further piss people off. Unreal.
I mean, what does it cost to give everyone VIP access? Zero. Nothing. Nada. And even that's too much for them. Incredible. Talk about slathering salt in the wound.
What does it cost to give everyone VIP access? Zero.
I have to agree with Captain Fabulous on this one. I purchased every box set upgrade that came out, along with the newer "virtual" ones. I ran 2 accounts for years on end, had a 3rd for some time and even shared another account with a friend for a time, which would equal 4 accounts. Been playing since early summer '04 and recently had not been in game due to real life issues.
Now, I wasn't a VIP. In August of last year, we severely downsized our lives so we could follow our dreams. We cut out excess, which included game subscriptions, buying new games, Xbox Gold, NetFlix, buying new books, magazines, etc. etc.
But I was happy that I would have access to the game, even if it was limited. My main was no longer listed as an incarnate 50+, but whatever.
Though when I found out about the closure, I immediately tried to purchase a VIP account and points, so I could have full access to everything one last time. (And the costumes....oh the costumes, how I love them so.) But the store was closed already...on August 31st mind you, the day of the announcement.
I spent so much time and money. I helped organize so many in-game events for my server, my SG, and even for the Devs. If you were on Freedom for the 1st anniversary "salute to the Devs" that CuppaJo attended as well as Positron - except he was late and no one knew he had shown up except a few of us - hi! I organized that. Invited the entire server and all the Devs because we loved the job the Devs did and wanted to honor them and there was no official party.
And hell, I want to organize one final Dev salute, because it feels right.
But my point? No, not to toot my own horn. To show whoever is reading that I cared. I invested much more than money. I made some great friends. My SG - like yours, whoever you are that is reading - was family. Is family.
I feel especially bad for those VIPers who let their sub lapse just before September 1st. But I think we ALL should have access in these last few moments of this universe of ours. Because no matter who owns the rights to it, it is OURS - the Devs @ Paragon and mostly, the players. No one would have made any money off CoH if it wasn't for this community.
Would it really cost anything to give everyone access to all the game content and all the costumes and things we can't buy anymore? I understand why setting off multiple events in game could cause servers to crash. But what could allowing us access really do?
Business is business, sure. But surely NCSoft sees how hard this community is trying to save what they love. Have a heart. Let us ALL experience this world in full before you yank it away from us.

Quote:Yes, it was indeed CuppaJo. (If anyone is curious.)There were definitely red names about, and there were definitely former developers about, and I'm certainly not saying that April Burba wasn't there; she may very well have been and that would be awesome. But there's a decent chance that if you saw someone without the NCsoft_ prefix on their name, they were just a regular player.
I've had dealings with Cuppa for both the 1st and 2nd CoH anniversary parties held on Freedom as well as having Cuppa involved in special supergroup events. Messages exchanged indicated to me that yes, it was our former community rep.
Also, I was a DJ for Woot Radio and the owner, DJ Jester, knows Cuppa IRL. I can't actually speak for him, but I'm sure he would verify this. -
Definitely interested in this if it comes to it.
Sorry that I'm just a writer, but I do know some coders & artists in the game industry. If this happens, I'll see what they might need to get involved. (If we still need them, that is.) If nothing else, I have access to enough industry types that could give us advice and point us in the right direction on several different avenues. -

Thank you, Titan Network, for this and for all your efforts.
And thank you to EVERYONE, in game and out, for all the love and efforts to save this community of ours.
Here's hoping. *crosses fingers* -
This. Just unlock everything that can be made available to us without crashing servers, please.

Looking for my SG's costume contest winners thread and it went poof! Freedom forum doesn't go past 5 pages? We've all been AFK with IRL! Who decides what gets purged? We'd really like the post back...people liked looking to see piccies of who won each week!
Who must I speak to about this concern? -

Sign me under "would want to move _away_ if your home server were designated the PvP home."
I don't have anything really against PvP in general, and dabble in it myself on a very casual basis, but I have zero interest in seeing my "home" overrun by the "hardcore PvP" crowd (and truthfully, it's the wanna-be-hardcore-PvPers that are the issue, a lot of the true PvPers want good competition, not the gankfest and uber-smack-talk that I fear would go with a designated server).
Perhaps a new server, with players allowed one free transfer to the server for the first weeks after it opens. If nothing else, it would put everyone on equal footing as far as bases, etc., and it would avoid the "not in my backyard" backlash from herding PvPers onto a pre-existing server.

Freedom is already overloaded as it is. There ARE actually those of us that don't PvP on a regular basis and we have been here since beta.
You're going to get backlash from any server you assign this to. Why not make a new server for PvPers and offer them a few free transfers? Make sure the new server has a notice about it being PVP, and then no one can complain about PvE vs PvP on it. -
Mmmmmm....street fighting and dual blades....yummy! I just hope y'all mean sais when you say blades....knives...sais....ya know, small ones. I have been wanting knives for soooo long. Didn't get to vote, but needed to say so!
I'm interested to know what a willpower set would involve.
Also, I'm a tad worried if vibration went through. Sounds cool, but will it give us headaches like sonic? Many people still don't like sonics and I still can't play one. -
I just want to voice my disapproval and disgust here in this thread. I'm sick to death of useful powers for PvE getting nerfed for PvP play.
Note to Devs: You ARE having PvPers leave this game for other games, so stop neglecting the larger player base of people who prefer PvE.
I don't care too much about PvP nerfs, but totally negating WHY I took the power...to protect squishes, to herdicane, to cause more chaos when things are going downhill..... I'm just sick about it.

Just in Case I missed anyone:
Thank you all for creating this wonderful game that we all love so much and for keeping it alive, kicking, and getting better everyday.
Freedom Server would like to thank all you....Devs, GMs, everyone!
If you could join us in game for a few moments, tonight at 9pm EST, we would be more than thrilled.
We'd just like to thank you personally.
We'll be the ones in spandex behind City Hall.
Much love from The Babes of War and Freedom Server.
