  4. Yeah, but Safeguard is an Inv tank, and isnt Invincibility one of the weaker taunt auras? Like, I dont know, a light breeze could steal all your aggro?

  5. Ive never noticed this before yesterday, so i thought I'd ask the professionals

    When Rage wears off and the suppression kicks in, does it also suppress your taunt aura? Usually I manage to fire off a taunt just before it wears off, but my trigger-finger was a bit slow yesterday, and while I was standing there lookin all pretty, 2 people kissed the floor.

    My assumption was that as I was 'only affecting self', my taunt aura stopped aggroing... right or wrong?

    I apologise as this has probably been mentioned before, however spectral terror can facilitate an exit from some very tricky situations! If you use it, it causes the enemies to become frightened and cower, giving you time to heal yourself and / or team, or retreat from the battleground.

    Alternatively, you could use it to prepare a mob before using the 'flash' power - the perfect setup for 'fulcrum shift', then 'fireball' (from your ancillary power pool). This combination is the equivalent to a 'nova'-type power, ha ha ha!

  9. Yeah, but given that the Phantasm uses energy torrent LOADS, and the PA dont care who they hit, and freezing rain, on an illusion / storm they get hit a lot. And spectral terror doesn't hold his own aggro, unlike the other pets, so it all goes on the caster.

    Besides, with flash, blind, decieve and thunderclap, he's got lots of control options. I didn't say spectral terror was a bad power, just very situational

    I only tend to use him as an extra option if there are a couple who arent arrested by the time freezing rain is gone.

    I have spectral terror with my illusion / storm and I dont really see the point most of the time. Fear doesnt set up containment, and the fear breaks if they're hit, so dont use it with the phantom army (they'll hit anything) or freezing rain... Its a really, really situational power that'll fill holes in illusion - but storm does that nicely anyway.

    I would take thunderclap anyway. Yes, it only stuns minions, but the majority of the enemies you'll come across are minions. Ive never understood that as a reason for not taking it

    I wouldn't slot blind for damage - better to go with accs there - its all very well that it does damage, but if you never hit it, it'll never do the damage. I use it as a setup tool for containment.

    Drop the def buff enhances on superior invis - the buff is tiny. slot it for endreds only. I would 3slot it endred. And that gives a couple of slots for some other stuff. Like accuracies.

    The recharge on decieve is quite good anyway iirc, not sure you need quite as many recharge slots on that...

    And I would look at the slots in pretty much every power - your accuracy is gonna be terrible. I always find it frustrating to know that I COULD beat a mob if only I could hit them. And that realisation comes usually before you faceplant, so....

    Okay,

    I would take blind asap as the other person said - its really your only hope of doing semi-reasonable damage. Flash can wait, 'cos the recharge is truly awful.

    I would take decieve - its a really good power which, if used well, can turn the tide of a battle.

    Drop the recharges on spectral terror. You can only have one, and the base recharge is exactly the same as the duration - I personally never saw the point. change it for a fear duration. But remember that fear doesn't set up containment.

    As has already been said, drop the recharges on phantasm - change them for dam / acc. He's going to be doing most of the damage on your behalf.

    Also, you may find that when you have transference, you can respec out stamina...

    Oh, and one last thing, remember that you're a controller. Illusion doesn't have much in the way of control, so you might want to slot your control powers for hold duration. Unless they're held you do rubbish damage, so you're really gonna want them held for as long as possible.

    Thats all I can think of for just now.

    Have fun though - illusion is one of the most fun 'troller sets there is imo.

    Okay, this may seem like a silly question, but how does one RP?

    Ive been playing CoX for some time now, and Im looking for something new to get my interest, but I have no idea how to go about doing it. I didnt just want to show up at the GG meet, cos I wouldnt know how to ask someone what to do - would it break their immersion if I was to ask what it was all about? Do you need to put an ooc question in asterisks?

    I guess I was also a bit curious as to how welcomed a new face at GG would be. From reading the forums for a while, I get the impression that most of the regular GG crowd know each other fairly well, is it cliquey?

    I just feel like RP is a difficult 'scene' to get into. I really dont know the basics at all - this would be my first foray into the heady world of RP, and Im just looking for some info before i start so Im not ruining other peoples enjoyment of the experience.

    Any help would be most appreciated.
  14. Ooh, Carnifax is soooooo right. You gotta get Decieve. Seriously. I was like you (only my 'trollers get to about level 20 before I get bored), but I started an ill/storm and I havent looked back. He's level 34/35 and counting. You'll probably find that there are too many powers to choose from, and you'll want them all.

    But make sure you get Freezing Rain. I adore that power, and I will one day learn the rain dance to call it out.

  15. Cap, u hit the nail square on the head - Ive got more control than I know what to do with (hence the OP).

    Tornado looks fun but messy. It seems like the kinda power which would happily aggro not just the room Im in, but the whole bloody building (and maybe even the mobs outside).

    And Carnifax, my take on the hurricane situation is that I think its become really PvP friendly (I know that the second I walk into a PvP zone about 10 people come and stand inside my swirls), and maybe a bit too powerful in PvE. Its the whole PvE / PvP balancing thing that the devs seem so keen on but cant bloody well get right.

    But hey, thats just my 2 inf, as you forumites say

  17. See, what I generally do is just drop freezing rain right onto the mob, 'cos I find the defense debuff negates the -acc on the aoe holds and so I tend to tie everyone down pretty much straight away.

    So with that, Phanty, and the dark/regen I usually team with (and of course blind and the odd confusion), my health is never even near yellow. I did have hurricane, but I 'specced it out. That said I have got a power to pick at 35, and I don't know what to go for. The powers that are left are hurricane, tornado, group invis, steamy mist (but ive got superior invis and IIRC it doesn't stack), and snow storm. I know a lot of people really like snow storm, but the pets dont pay attention to anchors, and neither do a lot of players. And the -recharge element isnt enhanceable, is it? But is it more use against AVs?

    We do great against everything, if anything, better since I specced out snow storm and hurricane (but in saying that I finally got stamina, so down time doesnt even come up anymore), but what would make it better?

    I think my main problem is the PA and Phanty. The PA are just angry, and will hit anything, whereas Phanty has a reliance on energy torrent which is blinkin annoyin (it seems like the second I drop freezing rain he hits energy torrent and pushes them all off it). Its probably just the others that are getting in the way.

    Although, some1 said that as soon as they're hit it breaks fear - I take it freezing rain will do that. So, dont use him with freezing rain, or PA or Phanty? The poor sod'll never get out of his box

    Thanx for the replies anyway. Ive also got a question about the use of storm with illusion - is hurricane worth getting for a purely PvE troller? The resaon Im asking is that the combination of freezing rain and flash / clap holds pretty much everyone, and I use gale if they ever get too close. I think that dropping Speccy or lightning storm (when I get it) above me should sort out the ones gale misses, and given that Id need to drop it to go onto the freezing patch to clap / flash, is it as useful for an illusion controller as it would be for a defender?

    That said, I would totally pick it up for PvP.

  19. I think I might need a little help here...

    I've got an ill/storm troller, but I just cant find the love that every1 else seems to have for Spectral Terror. I really like little Speccy, I do, but I just cant find a use for him. Ive got him slotted with 2 fear durations, but I find that I harldy ever use him, what with PA and Phanty (really inventive names, huh? )

    The only times I ever pull him out of the bag is if my PA hasn't recharged, but with 3 rech SOs and hasten, downtime is next to nowt - I can use them every mob (or so)... Phanty blasts his little heart out, God bless 'im, and with flash / thunderclap the mobs stay locked down more often than not, so where does he come in?

    The fear effect doesn't seem to last very long, but would another enhancement make that much of a difference? And the fact that fear doesn't set up containment (tho I think it should), why is there so much love for the indistinct blob with arms?

    If anyone can explain why Spectral terror is so good, Ill give them a shiney nickel
