  5. Your right, wrong forum area, guilty. Did I have a point? Saw something that made me smile. I liked the chucking of convention right out the window. Characters you see with animal heads will usually be claw melee if cat or wolf, or perhaps battle axe or mace with shield or willpower for a bull head minotaur theme. Hey now though, not this guy, an eaglehead paired with pistols and mental. Thought it was quirky, plucky, humorous. Actually the first eagle head I have seen.
  6. Saw a guy named Eaglehead Guns, a dual pistol/ mental blaster. His bio read,
"Dude, I have a freaking eaglehead and some guns, alright!"
    Hmm, short and sweet, funny.
  7. I think the greatest power that makes soldiers better than the normal archetype is Mental Training. This attack rate and movement rate quickening alone makes my method work: from Surveillance to aoe immobilize, to ranged single target hold (both recharge slows) move to melee (I hover with combat jump on to get my last bit of def cap, and still close this distance fast) to BU and Shatter, and back out to range to Venom Grenade and other AOE's, before many critters AI has done much. (Note: my build says run speed io in Mental but on server I changed it to a flight speed.) I am cloaked and just at range and easily close distance in hover to use bu/shatter on the hard target after launching surveillance, web envelope, web coccoon.

What I get after Venom Nade, Heavy Burst, and Frag is minions and lts pretty much dead and the hard target is getting pounded with my single target range.
Hasten was just bonus recharge I picked up at 49, by the respec at 47 I already had enough recharge for my play syle to be effective. Hasten is just bonus fast on your single targets.

It is good for just cycling through the resist and def debuffs and the single target attacks range and melee on a hard target like an AV. I use Venom Grenade on single hard target also with shatter and surveillance, and the minus resist procs in the single range, lots of stacked minus resist and def. You get an AV that actually feels your bullets, your bayonet, and your mace, and he is not happy with you and he is also hating your two pets. Good fun fights.
  8. Thanks. Build for fun, for your play style.
  9. One more thing this build takes advantage of shooting the webs from range centered on the boss or EB, then jumping in for Shatter, the mins and lts went into range mode, are now immobilized and switching to melee when you clock their boss or EB with Shatter. (They still have likely not attacked you, they cannot make up their mind how they want to do it.) You jump back out to start the AOE's and range with Venom, and then they are switching back to their ranged attack. Hah, jump back in after the AOE's and Bayonet the hard target, they might even reset again if they are still alive. So reseting the mobs by jumping back and forth limits the attacks, combined with the recharge slow of the webs limiting their attack rate, plus you are hard to hit anyway: Who needs the more sturdy damage resistence of the Crab? I also like my Crab mind you; yet I just like the Huntsman even more. The play style for me is more up tempo and dynamic.
  10. This is what I roll with on my Huntsman. With Cloak suppressed still soft capped all three positionals, gobs of recharge, and lots of bonus damage. I use Surveillance to debuff the resist and def of the hard target in a spawn, then draw mace for Web Cocoon and Web Envelope to reduce recharge on the hard target in the spawn, followed by BU with mace out still, finally run in and hit hard target with Shatter Armor, jump back out to range drawing the gun: Venon Grenade, Heavy Burst and Frag on hard target and all his minions. Anything still left is hit with Single Shot, Burst, or Bayonet.

The minus resist procs in S/Shot and Burst along with Surveillance and Shatter Armor can melt EB's and AV's. I still also sometimes stealth about and crit with Bayonet to start a fight, whatever fits my whimsy at the time. Hunstman to me is about fun, that is versitality and options.

I see a lot of fellow Huntsman that just AOE and range, they do not even have a melee attack. Hmm, Bayonet is a darn good attack, and Shatter Armor stacked with the other minus resist and defense available allows for easy ownage of EB's, and really contributes to an AV fight.

Anyway this is how I enjoy my Huntsman, we each have our own preference.

    Deleters Remorse

The following will frighten you. It is the story of compulsively making characters over nine servers then regreting your creative work. Yes, looking around and saying, "this is not good" and thus laying waste to your multiverse. How cruel of a god could you be? Do not push these boundries and find out!

Well before Incarnates came, I deleted probably a half dozen 50's I said I would never play again. I kind of wish I had a few of them back, as well as a few lower characters I filed into the rubbish bin. I think it was an attempt to scale back my altelism and correct random schizo server selection when I first had the game in 2004. Server selection was bizarre because I played for a few months, went to war for a year or so in real life, came back and several people I knew in the game were on different servers. I followed them where ever they were.

Maybe two years ago some of the servers I played on were getting pretty quiet, so I consolidated to 2 high pop servers, (Freedom and Virtue) and kept one low pop server roster as it was my first server at launch in 2004 (Triumph). In this process I deleted characters: namely the six fifties I never touched anymore and many others from one to 45 on those three servers and moved a few other characters from six other servers to the freed up spots. I had at least five or six characters per server on each of those six other servers, with full rosters on Freedom, Virtue, and Triumph, and just got in this "consolidation obession vibe" one night. Maybe it was the free transfer tokens! The few characters left on the other six servers after I moved all my favorites (at that time) I also deleted. I am not even sure of the body count now, it is all a blur.

Often I will log into the game now and see those once "quiet" servers have a full pop again. Then also I will be looking at the selection screen at a character and musing,
"How the hell did you make the cut? What was I thinking? You suck, I made you, I will unmake you!" When will it stop? Can anyone make it stop?

Like I said, I would be a terrible deity. (DELETE) "Oh crap, did you have some inf and sets I could have sent to another character with a quick removal respec, and the new email system? Nooooo! Khannnnn! Khannnnn!" (Captain Kirk rage reference, shouting from inside a planet echoing out into space, Wrath of Khan) Anyway.

Delete remorse, yes. Sometimes I have dreams, I am in hell and my deleted characters are all around me...

    hover & powers

The original "could aggro spawns, placed in mid air O-portal" was good for entertainment while waiting at a mish door for other team mates to get there on the edge of the Talos map. Small rocky island with fairly high bluffs, and Circle of Thorns hanging about the ledges of the bluffs. You could put a portal near the edge dwellers just off the cliff in mid air than watch them jump off the cliff when trying to attack it. Over and over again for five minutes, like lemmings, run off the cliff, run back up the hill, over the edge again, and so on.

Team mates start showing up, sometimes not able to see the portal as they super jumped in or whatever, "What the hell are those five Circle doing, throwing themselves off the cliff and running back up to throw themselves off again?"

Like I said, silly thing to do while waiting for people to get to that particular door.
  13. My Crab is formerly human, a pissed off Arachnoid experiment in a crab spider suit. (See Project Fury: Venom Serum in COV lore, origin of Arachnoids) All my SOA's have in common the desire to kill Recluse. Seems to also be a common theme when you read other SOA players that bother to write bios.

My duel build Huntsman/ Bane is human, but that started the "Kill Recluse theme" for me in my VEATS. Yes my Widow and Fortunata hate the boss as well. But the Huntsman/Bane, an angry citizen of the Isles is the most compelling: "Someday, I'm going to put a bullet or mace in his all powerful incarnate head, and it is going to do the job, odds be damned."

Seen semi loyal VEAT bios also, but to me the whole VEAT story line is about giving the finger to Recluse. I like to think the Rogue Isles is a more compelling dystopia than Praetoria, but thats just me. I also think the alignment "Rogue" is more compelling than "Villian" unless your a villian who wants to supplant the top dog.

I also think Paragon, the "City of Heroes" is a "City of Slick Lawyers." How the hell else to all these continually squashed villian organizations replenish their ranks? Dreck the Freakshow boss, gets out of jail on a technicality every few days or so. Freaking lawyers! Blueside, go vigilante and start killing the perps for a change. After playing many heroes I have to say they must be pie in the sky believing chumps. Ok enough role play concept. Enjoyable game still, even seven years later. COH nerd for life! or untill the severs dry up and go down, may it not be so!

    Arch/Dark?

Yes, do it. Fun and effective. I have an Arch/Dark and an Arch/Traps and have enjoyed them both. Do both! I have played archery across the Archetypes, Blasters: Arch/Eng, Arch/Mental, Arch/Ice, and Arch/Devices; Defender: TA/ Arch, Sonic/Arch, out of all these I enjoyed the two Corruptors: Arch/Dark and Arch/Traps the most, well maybe not.

I actually loved Arch/Devices (What?), which on the surface is a very gimpy blaster combo, but I really loved it, however currently playing the Corruptors I think my Arch/Dark, and Arch/Traps, can pull more surprising impossible tricks then the old Arch/Devices.

Fearsome Stare, Tar Patch, Rain, Fistful (Arch/Dark) is beautiful, as is Acid Mortar, Poisen Trap, Caltrops, Rain, Fistful, (Arch/Traps), as is Caltrops, Rain, Fistful, if your still alive aggro on this stack of trip mines at my feet (Arch/Devices Blaster).

Did I mention I like Archery? I am going to shut up before I get into what I liked about the other arch/ or /arch I have played.
  15. Try some of the suggested Corruptor and Doms. At lev 20 if not happy, then make a Huntsman or Crab Soldier of Arachnos.
Huntsman is somewhat how I always wanted an AR/Devices blaster to feel like. With BU and Cloak Device from Bane trees post 24, I also melee, critical from stealth on Bayonet power is sweet, and stunning up to Lts. with the butt of your rifle never gets old with Pummel. But most of the time it is venom grenade, heavy burst, frag nade on groups, and repeat. Burst and single shot for single target blasting and clean up, along with the two melee attacks, pummel is great for that one mob who escaped your aoe's with a sliver of life, crack to head and dead.
Crabs are generally blasterly (spec into Crab at lev 24, or stay a Huntsman) and can do other things also. Blasting with a little bit of mez protection, sounds good right, to me thats what Huntsman and Crabs are all about. Good self and team buffs, some debuffs on some attacks, good stuff. I think the VEATS have a damage modifier close to Corruptor or Defender, so not exactly Blaster numbers in the air, but it is good stuff.
I like some Corruptors, some Doms, those might work for you, try a Huntsman or Crab also.
OR Like somone already suggested come over redside via tip morality missions with your Blaster of choice, and you are a villianous blaster.
  16. It's fun. Now at lev 47, IO set slotting on my Archery/Devices (themed tune, a high tech bow hunter) has been more fun for me than on other Blaster primary/ secondaries which kind of follow the same (and more expensive, from my experience) formula that gets old. Some of the powers in Devices took some sets I have not tried as often that I found nifty. Love Trops proc'ed up. Anyway.

Leveling up I remember all the Arachnos missions and my team being blinded by Night Widows with no yellow pills to take, but with Targeting Drone (and Tactics, overkill, but my guy's bio says he never misses) I just kept flinging sticks. Once a Night Widow EB/AV (that Vanguard mission on a Rogue Isle city map forget the EB/AV name) finally aggroed on little ole pissy damage me and my arrows because I am the only one that can still see her to attack her.
Thats ok I spent the whole fight dropping Trip Mines at my feet everytime it recharged. (shoot, shoot, shoot, drop mine, repeat) Before 4 minutes goes by and the first mine detonates you get a good pile of 12 mines or so at your feet. Everyone still alive is blinded but me, scrapper down, fender down, another blaster down, tank down, chat bubble from tank's dirt says "Run" me still shooting, here she comes, hop away, big boom. Dead or close enough for me to finish her FUN! Team thinks I am special just for a few seconds or so, but we move on and soon forget about my specialness. I am again just that guy with Archery and Devices, making a splash here and there with a caltrops, rain of arrows, fistful show on a spawn, but the other blaster usually outshines me on most of the spawns. Oh well I had my moment. FUN!
Last guy standing against Envoy of Shadow, early in the 40's, one of those fights where AV is almost dead and suddenly the team dies, so he finally noticed me, but killed himself by running at my mine pile at my feet. On teams any long EB/ AV fight just drop a mine whenever you can, it happens alot that they will come over and boom themselves on the foot pile. Depending on when this happens, ideally later in fight; they just might die or be close enough to dead for whats left of the team to finsh them. Devices, a different set of tricks that can be fun, that you need to find as much use for as possible. Team steam rolling? Get ahead of them and set some **** up. When they ask what your doing, just say, "Having fun!"
  17. Widow: Miss Kiss N Kill

Bane: Mr. Yuck Macer (originally Operative Able on a duel build)

Wolf/Huntsman: Able Caliber (originally Operative Able on a duel build, now seperate character, all for the sake of name with a theme, I had to roll a seperate Huntsman rather than having it build number 2 on the Bane)
  18. Yes to 50, lots of fun, and yes a sort of play on Captain America, albeit a modern version for our current world wide struggle. No red, white, and blue spandex, but rather desert camo fatigues, military helmet, and a desert colored round shield with a "punisher" skull emblem (skull 2 I think). Aptly named, War On Terror, on Triumph server. Favorite themed toon although I have been harrassed in chat by haters of American foreign policy on rare occasions. No big whup, to each their own, bless them.

Initial lack of PBAOE, but hell your playing Martial Arts, thats not your deal. Once you have the shield smashing PBAOE and follow it with Dragons Tail most tight packed minion groups are finished easy. Then single target martial arts goodness on bosses and lts.

I skipped Crane Kick for the improved Cobra Strike, this keeps me from knocking foes out of Shield's damage buff aura, which is what Crane Kick will do often. I actually slotted up Boxing with Touch of Death for the melee defense bonus, but also now use it in a single target STUN/ Disorient CHAIN: Eagle Claw, Cobra Strike, Boxing yes the one, two, three, and repeat can overwhelm enemy stun/disorient protection and even have an elite boss or some av's staggering around. Throw in a Crippling Axe Kick and Storm Kick here and there to finish your staggering enemy. Staggering bad guy is a bad guy not hitting you; he just lets you kick away and kick the **** out of him as he stumbles about stupidly.

Negative energy Procs (Touch of Death) and five Crushing blows for recharge bonus is a cheap way (compared to other ways to io) I slotted my single target attacks. Shield's damage buff aura, a quick recharging Focus Chi, and the Procs make up for that highly resisted smashing damage your throwing out against the high resist enemies lev 35 and on. An Eradication damage proc in Dragons Tail also can make it more respectable and effective after a big shield smash. Regardless if it is a boss or lt still standing after a smash of the shield, a boss or lt you just now tripped is not hitting you, chain stun him and murder his evil ***!

I don't know, I am more of a casual player but MA/ Shield has actually been a 50 levels I enjoyed, and then tinkering with once I had some inf. Going to play this character some more now that the incarnate content has started.
