I just wanted to say every time I saw your redname in the 'Who's Online' list, I laughed.
Not every game can say they have a Bayside High alumni on their team. -
Hey folks.
With the sad news, I'm dusting off my badger and revisiting old content and try to hit as much that I've missed as possible. Particularly, I'd like to walk down TF Lane - if anyone would like to join in, I would love the company.
I'll probably be on as Oni no Jakarta, Tesla's Killbot, Gun-Toting Hobo, or my badger - Krimzeek. My global is @Rough Trayde. -
Hey Goat,
I just want to say that one of the things that has me coming back to check out the thread is the updates where your son drives.
That is totes awesome in my book.
Cheers. -
I've always assumed that it was a bone being thrown to the idea of villains doing something for personal gain, as opposed to being a lackey of someone else or being forced to 'do the right thing to save that place where you keep all your stuff'.

Quote:It wasn't a 'sucker' suggestion, but an incomplete one. What everyone missed, and no one seems to understand, is, I never meant this to be a discussion about my healbot build. I was told that I should post my question on the forum boards, that the devs read the boards often, and things get changed when you post to the boards. I got suckered into it, fell for it, took the bait, hook, line, and sinker.
You posted this under the "Player Questions" forum. The one where players ask other players for guidance. In your particular case, from the outside it seems reasonable that the tone is "I can't get meet the metrics used for getting this badge" so players let you know what you needed to do to get the badge - namely your build.
My understanding (and I will admit I'm not enough of a forum poster to be 100% positive, others will probably correct me if I'm wrong) is that the devs don't spend a lot of time in this section of the forums.
If you would like to suggest to the devs to fix what is used for the metrics or to remove the metrics all together aside from running the event to get the badge, then another forum (probably the Suggestions forum) would be more appropriate for having their eyes catch it. -
Quote:
Never said they were. Merely pointed out that to their benefit, I am contributing to their ability to do more damage. If they choose not to do that damage, well, then I have lost a firing of Fortitude, or whatever, they have lost an opportunity to do that damage, and there is no attack button I can press that will make them attack, and I knowingly accept that fact.Quote:Every time a tank goes down to red on his health bar, I am contributing. If I keep him alive a little while longer, I'm contributing. He now has the ability to hit more than he did without me. Whether it's because he didn't have to spend the time going to his base, the hospital, buying inspirations, I'm contributing that much more. My time was spent making his time more productive. If he dies, goes to the hospital and returns, it has taken him more time to do that than he has spent already on attacking the creature that killed him. If I save him this hassle, he has spent that time attacking that creature. That's WAY more valuable than 5%. Quote:I am contributing. By increasing the ability of my teammates to do damage. It's not directly damaging. It's not Dps, but it IS DoT.
This isn't a "my build is right, yours is wrong" opinion by other players, this is the underlying reward mechanics at work.
Quote:Yes, everyone in the game has the ability to heal, but very few take the power to heal. Are you saying that you're a proponent of "Everyone must have a heal power" Well, what if then, someone came up to you and said that if you didn't take two different types of heal powers (say, the Medicine pool ALSO), that you were an idiot! How would that make you feel?
Quote:No other AT and powerset has to do what a healer does. You make buffing/debuffing/healing sound as if it were secondary to attacking. Not so with the Empathy powerset. It says so, right there in the description: "Empathy gives you the ability to heal and aid allies as well as yourself. Empathy has no offensive powers, but its heals and buffs are unmatched." And that's the PRIMARY powerset. That is what an Emp Def, a healer, does. Quote:I don't think I read that in the rules anywhere. Can you point that out to me? You are given an option, I chose to take it. That's why there's chocolate AND vanilla ice cream. Quote:I'm not sure why you dislike "pure healer" empaths so much, but your entire arguement seems to be "you're stupid for building your character the way you want to build it." Which to me, sounds a lot like, "my build is right, yours is wrong"
As Aurora Girl said, QFT:
Quote:The forum community dislikes the "pure healer" empath because it's self-limiting. It's intentionally halving your effectiveness as a teammate, as a contributor, and as a player of the game as a whole. The game is designed such that no specific AT or powerset (or individual power, for that matter) is really NEEDED for anything. Certain other games are not. They require people whose only job in life is to put up green numbers, but that is not our game. That is not how we want our game to be.
It's not so much that your build is "wrong," necessarily, it's just that you don't seem to reconcile your limited capability as the reason you can't get this particular badge.
If Healbot Extraordinaire is the concept you're married to and you're enjoying it, rock on with your bad self. However, don't expect others to be as married to it as well and certainly don't expect the underlying system to be.
Best wishes on earning the badge. -
Quote:I was on an ITF a couple of weeks ago and we sat around for an extra half-hour because the leader insisted on a Healer. It's been eight years, you'd think people would eventually get the hint.
Although some folk must be....it's actually been quite a while since I've heard anyone on a team shrieking for a HEALOR.
Majority of Team: "All right, we filled to 8! Let's get this started!"
Team Leader: "We need a healer. Does someone have a healer they can alt to?"
Pain Dom Corrupter: "I can heal."
Majority of Team: "Yea, we have a Pain Dom - time to roll!"
Team Leader: "We need a healer."
Pain Dom Corrupter: "I have heals - start it up!"
Team Leader: "We need a healer - who has an Empathy Defender?"
Majority of Team: "Most of us are Incarnates, and we have a Pain Dom...."
Team Leader: "Someone has to have an Empathy Defender! Alt to it and we'll get started."
Pain Dom Corrupter: "I CAN HEAL!!!"

Now, it's something that's going to happen. But how will it happen? What could possibly lead to the demise of Primal Earth's Champion of the Well?
This approach is something that's been planned for awhile now, taking a cue from other famous, or infamous, comic book deaths. -

Quote:I think I was with you on that run, Kheldarn - was my first time as well on the trial, and I was surprised to see at the end of it that we hit 3 out of 4 badges needed for the Mo badge.OK, that means I was counting the right things.
I've run UG once, and the leader just blitzed the prox bombs, so I never saw them. If we'd gone after them, and got them, it would have been a MO run, since the Prox Bombs Badge was the only one I didn't get. >.< Ah well. -
When I first started the game 18 months ago, the 2nd toon I rolled was an Ice/Thorns Dom. Glancing at Paragonwiki, I had thought that Thorntrops & Ice Slick would be funny.
Ran him for a little while on some SG teams, but started growing frustrated with him and focused on my brute. Now I feel like I have a much better handle on a lot of the mechanics of the game and am looking at burning a respec and putting some more time in on Little Doc.
There's a lot of random wonks in the build, mostly for my amusement. Perma-Dom is covered, about 6 seconds off of perma-Hasten (according to Mids). I'm not looking for the toon to be a bleeding-edge farmer, just something crazy fun and hopefully effective in both group and solo play.
Thoughts and/or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Quote:But...but...they're the ebil marketeers! If they are colluding, it *has* to be to screw everybody else in the system so they can make their coffee with the freshest tears! The economy in CoH is a lot smaller than that of the United States, GB. If the majority of the ebil marketeers really go through with this, I think it actually might put a dent in the market inflation, at least until the influence level is brought back up by people through the course of playing the game.
Anyway, nobody's asking you to give up your inf, so don't worry about what they do with theirs. -
Quote:Argh - you're right and I confused Angry Protestors w/ PPD based off the name (For some reason, I parsed the No Authority badge as being for killing protestors - should probably not read these things at 5 am).Not sure why you're trying to get through the curtain...
Also, what article about the protesters? I'm not finding anything, and there wasn't anything implemented for defeating the protesters.
Quote:Denial of Service - (Praetorian) You crept a bit too close to the danger zone and got burned. Quote:Originally Posted by Paragon WikiDenial of Service Attempt to penetrate the sonic barrier surrounding the Praetorian zones. -
First - thank you Snow Globe for collating all this info - it's fantastic and useful.
I do have a question about one of the new badges for Praetoria:
1) This morning I swam through Praetoria for the River Rat badge and when I finished I thought I'd try to go off-map to hit the sonic curtain and suicide express back to a hospital and pick up the Denial of Service badge as well. I was able to get to the curtain (off the western coast of Neutropia) and die/catch a free ride to the hospital, but there was no badge awarded. Is there a recommended place to try and go through the curtain or is there something else I'm missing?
Thanks! -
Quote:I feel your pain on learning the ins-and-outs of the IO system (in general) with a DM/WP brute (specifically).Level 1: High Pain Tolerance
- (A) Numina's Convalescence - Heal/Endurance
- (34) Numina's Convalescence - Endurance/Recharge
- (37) Numina's Convalescence - Heal
- (39) Gladiator's Armor - TP Protection +3% Def (All)
- (39) Steadfast Protection - Resistance/+Def 3%
The thing that jumped out at me was the above - HPT is an automatic effect, no endurance usage, no recharge. If you're slotting for a bonus from Numina's, why the Endurance/Recharge IO? You can get more bang for your buck on bonus hit points using a Heal/Recharge and still make the set bonus you're going for.
Also - instead of putting extra slots in Brawl, maybe use them on some of the defense/resist powers and get some more defensive bang for your buck from both the individual IOs and from the set bonuses. -
I have a date set for quitting smoking coming up soon - what is this Vitamin C trick you speak of?

Quote:I slotted a Perfect Zinger proc in SM pretty early on my DM/WP build and my experience was that the proc fires in the first set of numbers.
While we're on Shadow Maul, do procs in the power also fire at the end? I tend to avoid putting procs into DoTs because they seem to usually fire off at the end, and I'd rather have the effect kick in right away. Wondering if that suspicion is founded in reality (I seem to recall knowing from somewhere, like Incinerate).
