Forced localization through IP geolocation is EVIL, and whoever had the idea first should be taken to the back of the building and shot. Repeatedly.

Listen CK, you need to man up and stop being an AFC.
First off, it's all about you, not her. You have to work on improving yourself, what is it that you want?
No, saying "P" is not an answer, that's just emotional cover. You, as a man, need to have a purpose in life. Something you devote your mind and cogs to. Some goal that is worth your effort.
Do some soul searching. And afterwards, hit Dr. Mechano for some new parts. Man, have you seen those robotic bodies they have in Praetoria for their local clockwork? Why the heck are you walking around in a clanky rusty old frame when you can have an ergonomic, android body to compliment your mind? You think a new image won't help you? Think again! Make yourself better!
Oh, and "P"? That's it. Listen, you're in the Friendzone, that's a lousy proposition 99% of the time. She gets all the benefits and you get nothing. Attention, validation, personal guardians. Heck, what on Earth were you doing White Knighting in when the Rikti kidnapped her instead of leaving it to the heroes? Did she call you after that? Did she answer you with "okay, let's have a date"? The answer is a big fat NO. It's all about what she gets. Move on man, move on.
Listen, I know it's hard to get over your oneitis. But you have to man it up! Find a real purpose, keep your mind at it. Heck, here's an idea. Praetoria has a full network of telepathic guardians that keep their society "clean." And here you are, a freaking powerful psychic who could easily bypass it. The chics will just fall heads over heels for you, the rebel bad boy who slips by the friends network with your sleek new android body (you ARE getting a new body, don't argue with me about that!). Tell me, does a rebel like that fawn and seek female approval? No. You have a mission, and you don't conform to those lousy rules, you're dangerous and exciting.
Seriously, clean up your act, get a work over, and move to Praetoria for a while. I know it won't be easy, but what is? Nothing important ever is. -
I have a Release Captive spawning with the surrounding mobs as friendly in one of my missions (#3 of "Jumping in Feet First"), the way I did it was to have them spawn at the back of a particular map after the boss is defeated (and the mission completed, by the way).
Upon spawning they'll spew out some lines. Upon aggroing some enemies they will spew some more. I wasn't able to make them say a line upon arrival of the player, but they did do so with the spawning after the boss fight and with the ambush that followed the boss' defeat - which I added to make sure they talked their lines on time.
Worked decently, may be something to look at. If you carefully select the map, you could make the captive + allies spawn upon a glowie click and they'll say some lines. And if there are no enemies around (fill the rest of the spawn points at that "front/middle/back part with bosses that spawn upon something impossible, like rescuing the captive from the friendlies), it could work for you.

Girls, guys! Keep it simple!
Two reasons to play something other than DM:
- Lightning-*************-Rod.
- NINE. THOUSAND. CUTS! -
Well, I do see them all as being in the same Universe (even though I'm spread across half a dozen servers, go altholism!), so many of my characters do know about each other, even though only a few I've actually sit down and given them a more detailed related backstory on their relationship.
Walkiry/Waldrada: Broadsword Scrapper sisters (/Regen, /Shield respectively), Walkiry was possessed by an old fighting spirit during a ritual that bound her to a little girl named Tilly and serves as her guardian (the Circle were after the girl at the time, and the binding was pretty accidental), Waldrada joined her sister in crimefighting after some nasty incident that left her crippled and then uncrippled (go go cyborg parts!). Waldrada's gonna go Rogue though, not because she's evil, but because she's kind of sick of everything that's gone wrong with the both of them and thinks that Cole's society would be much better.
Actin/Myosin: DM/Inv Scrapper, Kin/Dark defender. Met by accident as victims of a Council experiment (look it up in Mission Architect, #1345, Jumping In Feet First, where you are the hero who rescues them and saves the day! </shameless plug>), standard crimefighters all things considered. Actin was a valley girl, so she found this crimefighting a bit weird; then after i10 she made a switch to taking it dead seriously after getting her bum kicked by the Rikti, now she's likely the most badass Scrapper I have. Myosin was a gold medal winning German athlete, so he came from a different perspective, he was used to being taken as a "role model" and participate in social programs and whatnot; he was rather popular and didn't mind using his fame to help charitable causes, so he fit into the new role as super-powered hero pretty naturally. They're not a couple, in fact, their attitudes seem to clash every so often (Actin has swung both ways, from being too aloof to being way too serious about crimefighting, whereas Myosin is more balanced and mature).
Aliana Blue/The Blue Sorrow: They're family related, Blue Sorrow turned to e-vile whereas Aliana doesn't know he's still alive (yet!). I've got their full story in my head, just haven't put it down on paper, and decided against putting it into Architect since playing other people's "main" stories is not always that fun (I actually did plan it a bit as a "choose your own adventure" kind of thing, but I'd need some 20 architect slots to be able to publish all the selectable "paths"). White Flare, the Actin/Myosin duo, and Walnut Pie all play a role in this story. White Flare kinda has a crush on Aliana.
Moon Eclipse: This is two souls (two sisters) inside a single body, which makes it fun to play her. I always speak in plural when playing her, but nobody seems to pick on it, or at least make comments. I may need to be more blantant about it!
Hm, can't think of any other obvious ones. There are characters I play as part of fixed "trios", but that's another story since I'm only one of the three. -

They should just put fully functional trial codes in cereal boxes.
Why yes Mr. Kellog, if you put this code in your box, we promote our game. On the other hand, thousands of cereal boxes will be bought by RMT Spammers to get the codes, we'll ban them within a day or two, at which point they'll go back and buy some more. I do believe we have a win/win deal right here. -
Quote:Well, either you were lucky or I was unlucky. I have two characters that have gotten up there in a leisurely, high-bodycount-team way and both ended with something in the range of 20-30M. 20-30M puts a limit of some 300k tops per slot (you have over 90 slots to fill at level 50), which kind of puts a damper on how much you can really IO your toon.I still don't get how you can be that poor
My poorest level 50 is my rad/rad defender (also my only hero 50 since I'm a villain player). I leveled him in PuGs in a 4 weeks period in order to get a 50 to participate in a STF and so I could get Kheldians. Since he hit 50 I have taken him out on only 2 other occasions, the STF and this years winter event.
He has over 150 mil left on his 'account' after slotting him with lvl50 SO's. Just from playing random missions and selling his drops.
150 isn't a fortune but enough to pluck in some decent sets in attacks and other key powers.
I mean sure, you can get very serviceable builds with low level sets (low level because crafting costs alone at level 50 go over the 300k limit), which is what I did, mix-and-match lowbie stuff (while keeping an eye for the stealthy yellow recipes that need rare salvage to craft, damn you Cleaving Blow!) and frankenslot with the off SO or common IO and whatnot for a very functional build, but it's not really an amount of wealth that lets you go all out even with the most common high level sets.
Of course, if I really wanted to IO them out with the good stuff, I'd just get them the influence with my Elec/Shield scrapper. Set the missions to +3/x8, go run one or two RWZ arcs via Ouroboros, and walk out with a sack of stuff. -

Quote:1. Team a lot doing random missions (i.e., not "team every time there's a TF in the making", random missions).I always wonder how some people are so poor. I've never had to farm to afford my IO builds and you don't need everything to be Rares and Purples either. Some of the best sets are in the Uncommon pool.
2. Watch the rate of drops you get plummet.
3. Don't play a lot once you get to 50.
4. ???
5. Lack of Profit! -

Talking in general about the thread, and coming from a different angle.
Marketing of the game isn't too good. I can agree with that. I don't see any buzz and I keep finding people who've never heard of this game. I'm not sure if NC realizes how strong WoW's foothold in the NA market is, while they're getting by fine in Asia thanks to their strong brand name and solid offerenings there, they need to be more agressive in North America/Europe/Oceania if they really want to get more out of the investment they made when they took over this project.
HOWEVER.
That's only part of the story. The other part is this: We're not going to be getting new blood and we'll keep stagnant until the low level content (specially hero side) gets a revamp.
No ifs, buts, or maybes. There's a ton of really cool stuff in this game, but trial accounts just never get to see it, ever. Level 14 limit, somewhat limited access to communication channels, and no access to Architect (directly). A person trying this game gets dumped in Atlas/Galaxy after the tutorial (the tutorials are absolutely fine), with a contact in their list and a message about visiting it, to start a series of dull, pointless, repetitive missions, not to talk about boring fedex, "go talk to my uncle" and similar stuff that follows. It's old, outdated content.
CoV's better, but by a slim margin. Not much pointless travel, but a better start.
We need to grab new players as soon as they set foot in the newbie zone. Really, really need this. If resources are a problem, Architect is the solution. Host a contest for "best low level arc for all origins", or directly go and plunder the arcs that are already highly rated there (out of sight of the newbie, and inaccessible directly to the trialer IIRC) and throw the contacts to the open world. Give the new guy a varied arc with a gripping story, with cool custom enemies and whatnot. Rock them off their socks!
We have, IMO, the best looking combat of the MMO space that I know of. The new guy needs to see this! -
Quote:Ahaha, appropriate dialog indeed!I'm not a roleplayer, but I enjoy playing that arc with my SG-mates and doing appropriate dialogue, such as:
(On seeing the enemies for the first time): My god, they appear to be some sort of bikini-clad samurai vampiresses from outer space! Clad in bikinis!
(When playing one of my inventor-type characters): As a man of science, I cannot admit the existence of such creatures, yet I believe that there are some things that SCIENCE ITSELF cannot explain! One of them may be these "bikini-clad samurai vampiresses from outer space!"
And, best of all, an exchange between me (playing one of my blasters) and "Dod," a very bouncy friend (playing the blaster's teenaged sidekick, which makes it funnier):
Her, upon finishing the arc: Yay! We won!
Me: Yes, but for how long, Dod? FOR HOW LONG?!!? Dun-dun-DUN!

Hm, found this sitting in my inbox.

It has been more than seven years since the end of the Rikti War, and only a few months since we opened your Time Capsule and read your letters. I know my answer will likely never reach you, but today I feel like I really have to sit down and write to you, a letter to a friend that was long overdue.
A lot has happened since your departure. The war ended in the aftermath of the Omega Team trip to the Rikti homeworld, everything you set to accomplish with your sacrifices, you did. Earth was saved. All of us owe you a debt of gratitude we will likely never be able to repay. "Thank you" sounds poor and inadequate.
After the war, Earth managed to rebuild. We rose from the war stronger than ever, new heroes joined the ranks, our future looked bright, even if the past was dark. I was one of these new heroes; I'm young, and at the time I didn't knew much, all I knew was that I suddenly had acquired special powers and that I had to put them to good use. I thought I could take on the world.
How conceited.
Two years ago the world stood still when we heard of a second Rikti invasion. Somehow the Rikti had managed to break through the barrier the Omega Team had created, and they were pouring in by the hundreds. I couldn't believe it.
My memories of the first Rikti War are hazy. I was just a normal girl, all I can remember is the noise, the terrible noise, and the fear that gripped me in my every waking moment. This time, I joined Vanguard without second thought. They welcomed me with open arms, and before I knew what was going on exactly I found myself standing in front of a swarm of Rikti Drones.
Remember how I said I thought I could take on the world?
That day I found how wrong I was.
It's one thing to punch punks and gangsters. Finding myself in the middle of a real, terrible war, was something else. My blood froze when the humming of the drones sent me back to the first war. I could barely react. All my efforts seemed clumsy and powerless. After waking one too many times at the hospital, it dawned on me: I was no match.
All the time I had been running around in a costume pretending to be a hero, all the time I had wasted thinking I was so strong. That's all I could think of. Now, when it really mattered, when there was something truly large at stake, I failed; miserably so.
This second war did not last. It ended in a surprising way, when we learned the truth behind how the war started. The Rikti thought we attacked first. We thought they did.
Plum Blossom, did you survive? If you didn't, I hope you learned this before the end. I hope so because it'll give your sacrifice even more meaning. Because when the Omega Team traveled to the Rikti homeworld and ended the war, you not only saved Earth. You saved the Rikti too, you saved everyone who was involved in a conflict that was a complete and utter error.
We thought this second war had ended. Lately, we have received information that it may not be the case. Some within the Rikti, and some within Earth, refuse to accept the end of the war. They have been driven so far that they only see the war itself, they see the death of the enemy as their only purpose. The war may resume at any moment, we don't know what will happen.
But this time, I haven't been sitting idly waiting for it to come. I have spent all my time training and working on becoming stronger. I have left everything behind, family, friends, my first hero partner, everything and everyone, for this single purpose. If war comes again, I will be ready, and I will do everything in my power to stop it. Your sacrifices will not have been in vain, I'll prove it with my own strength.
I must go now, and finish this letter while I still can. But I assure you, the Autum Festival of your homeland will return this year, no matter what happens. Even if I have to join you.
Yours,
Actin.- -
The arc in my sig has seen quite a bit of action lately. I got a surge during the Player's Choice Awards deliberations and shortly after announcement, then a lull, and now some more. Clearly I chose the name well!
(Actually, I'm pretty sure it's all Player's Choice aftermath, someone looking for a farm won't play an arc that caps at level 25 ). -
Quote:Depends how you look at it. In those days, a diamond was worth only a few thousands, and it wasn't the only one (offhand I remember Black Blood being also quite worthless), whereas nowadays pretty much all medium and high level rare salvage will net you from one to two million, bit more or less depending on luck and patience. It used to be that you could still learn a lot through sales of rare salvage. Pre-i13, a platinum was about 5m apiece, which was a lot in an era where purples were 50m each. But AE has forced down the price of rare salvage as well.
Not sure if the sum total means more or less influence on average, though, but the more even prices are not a bad thing IMO. Every orange message is always good news now. -
-
Alternative strategies:
a) Post in the appropriate board and ask for a budget IO'd build. 90% performance for 10% of the price is pretty common, and there's no way she'll feel inadequate with a well designed but still budget (and, thus, easily achievable) build.
b) Inventions Forum, ask about "frankenslotting vs. pure sets", she'll surely get good answers of how VERY effective frankenslotting can be compared to standard SOs, and how it's pretty good even when comparing to budget IO builds.
Oh, and when she gets to level 35 and beyond, she WILL like Elec/Shield scrappers, they're little fluffy balls of explosive doomy doom <3 "Farming" with mine is incredibly fun simply because at +3/x8, the world is your farm, you can do anything and still rack in the inf.
What server is this on, btw?
EDIT: I forgot! Oddly appropriately, my SO/Common IO built Broadsword/Regen scrapper has the MoSTF badge. Just for her information She has exactly three set bonuses, 3 minor regens. She was level 50 by issue 4, and I've never bothered re-building her. -
Well, unless the Rikti have managed to unlock the mythic level 55 or beyond, Actin, my Rikti-smacking scrapper, says "bring it on!"
If they _have_ unlocked the level 55 she'll still say the same, but she'll bring friends. You've been warned, Rikti. Nobody steps on her turf with ill intentions. -
Thanks! I'm happy you liked it, and thanks for the stars ^_^

*Points at Sig* #61013, 3 acts, can be a bit of a challenge but nothing too bad, no AVs/EBs
My other short arc is #1345, "Jumping in Feet First" but it's level 1-9, so it's just for beginners. -
If you want me to PvP, add, say, a small % chance of PvP recipes dropping from mobs in PvP zones, or any other form of good drop to justify the nerfage of my characters and the lack of mez protection when I enter the zone, and I'll be there Shield Charging like a moron at everything in sight (player or not) for days and days
I wouldn't mind the added difficulty of the PvP rules and mobs and players if there was something decent to show for it. A minuscule chance of a recipe from players on a timer really isn't enough. Shivans and Nukes really aren't it, because they seem designed to do "hit and run" kind of combat, I'd rather have the reward come steadily during mass chaotic combat instead of the directed missions/events; several rolls at the luck ticket instead of one sure fire while looking over one's shoulder, if you will. -
Does that mean I have to get Actin out for some action again? I'm in the middle of getting her another level in Badass!
-
*Looks at 2B bid on +3 Def PvP IO that only took 3 days to come through*
*Giggles*
EDIT: Getting 2B with my Elec/Shield scrapper is about 20-30 hours. With no market interaction at all (raw inf from vendors + mob defeat inf) it's around 80 hours or so. So really, I'm not surprised the very desirable IOs are going for more than the market cap.
