I16 has brought a new dimension to the game! I'm enjoying the power customization and the proliferated powersets! The SSKing and mob scaling features has improved both team and solo play for me.
I know that some players don't like the changes to AE but I think a balance has been struck to some degree. I've notice that there are still people are farming AE, which is fine, but there are now more players playing the established content as well . This was the first weekend in a while, that I was actually able to get on teams and play outside AE. I'll still do AE missions as well, whether they are farm or arcs, but it's nice to be able to do more than just the farms.
My only disappointment with I16 is that there weren't any new costumes to go with this issue. I think it would've been great to have a few new costumes to go with all the great power customization. Jay is so talented with his designs, I'm not sure why we don't get more of the costume fierceness?!
As far as gameplay content, I didn't expect to get any of that in this issue, but I do expect to be wowed when the Going Rouge expansion comes out! -
I disagree with this statement because role play is in some part because it tries to lessen role play as child like. Role play is tied to creativity and creativity is not only "child-like" it is a fundamental characteristic throughout the life of a person. Role play or imagination is one of the cornerstones of thought in many disciplines: literature, art, business, medicine, science and technology. The same mechanisms used to create a RP arc is the same used to visual "role play" the design of a art, music, a structure or a scientific theory.

Quote:I agree that the official vidz shouldn't be trashed -- they are pretty decent too. Samurai Ko's video IMO, really and (in a short time) showcased what is special in I16. The official video, though good, didn't do that for me! Her vidz really hit home about the great things in an upcoming issue! Again, Great Job!Some folks are trashing the official vids here.
Really, what's wrong with the movies NCSoft has produced? Especially the latest ones? You don't need to trash the official content just because you like Samuraiko's. Some of you seem to think one has to be awesome and the other sucks, rather than both being genuinely good. -
Quote:I'm not knocking this post and I do realize that to this poster costuming doesn't affect his gameplay and that's cool, but for me, it does! Making a character that I like visually helps with the role play. Mind you, I don't want to take away from the combat content, but this is a superhero MMO and costumes are a big part of that genre! IMO a couple of costumes here and couple of microtractions sets there are simply not enough.I like the idea. More options is almost always a good thing. Although some asymmetrical costume pieces exist, it would be nice to make any pattern/option assymetrical. Besides, it would help me get over my OCD issue when I try to match the existing options with power animations.
Another option along the same lines that would be nice (but probably way too much work) would be to be able to select your hero's dominant hand. Holding weapons in the other hand would add an extra touch of personalization to the game.
That being said, all of these ideas are merely cosmetic, not really effecting gameplay.
Champions have opened up a whole new level of costuming choices for their players and they plan to keep those options coming and asymmetrical options are very key to that. So far I've been able to make some very interesting costume over in Champions that I wish I could make here in CoH/V. -
Hi BAB,
I'm glad that you're considering this as an option for us! I was in the process of mocking up some granite looks that I would like to see. You guys are on a roll with customization! -
Hi Positron,
I hope that you get well very soon! -
LONG LIVE THE QUEEN -- I agree!
First BTW! I'm honored that my favorite WW would be the first after redname -- cool huh! -
I don't know, BAB could announce that he's got a surprise for us and that he's been working diligently and added wing auras and 30 new weapons models to weapons customization and cause us all to swoon and blow War Witch out the water -- it could happen!!

Quote:AE is dead.
Too few good stories to make wading through the ocean of crap worthwhile. Without meaningful Risk vs Reward (WHERE have we heard THAT term?...) there is no compelling reason to do AE missions except those which friends have created.
Give it a month. The AE building in Atlas will be as empty as the one in Faultline.
This is how I feel about this as well. I've seen this repeated so many times in this game it is unreal. The Devs come up with an idea that's great and somehow there's an exploit or a quick way to level and BOOM, then it's nerf to oblivion and no one plays it anymore. There has to be a better way of making changes without turning it into another grindfest or something not fun. -
Quote:Ok, I won't hound you anymore to come out of retirement!I'm 35... that's PAST retirement age for most sports franchises and some entertainment genres. "Fabulous" is debatable, too. But thanks for the compliment.
And I'm still retired.

I was talking to my RL friend about you this weekend and we were in agreement that your videos would always get us excited about upcoming issues! We both think your videos are way better than the ones that the ones provided by CoH/V PR department.
Well, like the saying goes all good things must come to an end. BTW, I'm considerably older than you so you're young to me! LOL! -
LOL, I don't think that would work for me! Even when I ask for things I usually don't/won't get them. The power that be here at Paragon probably won't have a contest so a I can try to win one because I asked for it! Hopefully, I am wrong about that!

I've never felt that Kheldians were cosmic at all! Sure they can do a lot, but cosmic is not the word I'd use for them. Just because they're aliens doesn't make them "cosmic!" Only beings in this game that seem cosmic to me are Faathim the Kind, Lanaru the Mad, Ruladak the Strong and Rularuu the Ravager.

Dear COH,
Can we please get more costume textures!
Can we please get more costume textures!
Can we please get more costume textures!
I really can't stressed this enough! Possibly some for issue 16!
Oh and yes, I love you all too -
Hmmm, the Devs said that they probably wouldn't do power customization -- now we'll have it in I16. So I wouldn't discount the Devs doing a money transfer system between a players characters. As much a I dislike microtransaction, I would use it to transfer inf to my players.
I primarily solo and have a single player SG now because my friends have moved on to other games so for a player like myself this would be a great option. -
I'm glad someone started this thread because I had plan to start one myself. Group Fly would be a great power if the Devs would fix the follow issue on it. I don't understand why a power that could be so potentially great, especially for MMs, has not been changed. And as other posters have said already, now with the ability for MM henches to zone this would be a fantastic time to make this change as well!

Ok lets face it, I need a new computer and I don't want to have to buy it -- I'd rather win one or at least try! So I'm thinking it's time for a contest and one that I have a chance at winning! Please, no movie contest because Samurai Ko/Dark Respite and 8Ball have that in the bag (sorry Ko and 8Ball). Please, no costume contests, because I don't look good in tights (shudder)!
It's been a while since you guys did a wallpaper contest. We could do a wallpaper contest based one I16 Power Spectrum or on the Going Rogue expansion. And we should have at least 2 or 3 computers available to win -- that's right I said 2 or 3 (aren't I the pushy moo)!
Any who, have your people call my people to see if we can make this puppy fly! Ciao!
P.S. No cardboard cutout computers either you wisenheimers! -

Actually, it only takes a few meetings to get me to treat someone like a friend; I'm a pretty charitable person overall.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, but would you be able to rely/depend on that person considering you have essentially little to no track record of behavior from that individual?
[ QUOTE ]
Moreover, I don't, and I don't think most people do, treat my friends of five years drastically different from my friends of ten.
[/ QUOTE ]
No you most likely wouldn't because there's been sufficient time to establish relationships with the 5 year friend and the 10 year friend. In terms of the game; however, they based the rewards on time and patronage because it's not possible for them to get to know the players individually.
What the real issue here is that either you think the game will not last long enough for you to receive the rewards or you will not be playing the game long enough to receive them. You've already stated that you've taken long breaks from the game. So why should NCSoft or any business care so much for you as customer than someone that's loyal and steady. That would be the same for a friend, if I rarely see or interact with one friend, but there's a friend that's constant and attentive in my life I most certainly will give more attention to that friend then to the one I rarely interact with. -
So what you're saying is that if you had a friend that's been with you through good times and bad. Have proven his or herself truly good, loyal and dependable, you would treat a new friend with the same regard? I don't think you would! This is the same principle for the VRs. It's about relationships and the veterans have established a relationship with the game that is loyal and dependable. Surely, the Devs want new friends/players and they want to do right by them as well, but they also want to keep their old friend/players. Frankly, you wouldn't go to a bank, airline or a myriad of other businesses and complain about their reward systems because it would fall on deaf ears. However, because the forum is here for you to voice your concerns, you have that privilege.
You say that I'm only for the VRs because it benefits me -- that's true to a point because I like them. I wouldn't care if the Devs did sell them to new players, because it wouldn't stop me from enjoyin them. I'm only responding to this post because what you're posting is a very self centered stance and not fully thought out. -
[ QUOTE ]
They're only fair if you're a veteran. If you're a veteran, they're immensely fair. For everyone else, the continued addition of new rewards is inherently unfair - the system is weighted towards the veteran's.
Seriously, this isn't that hard. The system is supposed to be weighted towards the veterans. Admit it, enjoy it, and move on.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't understand your sentiment because if you've been playing this game since your registration date, then you're a veteran players as well. You say that it's weighted toward veterans, well that's the whole point of the reward system. They're rewarding consistent monetary patronage of the game. This is not new in the world of business -- a very common practice in fact.
I'm not sure why you don't see this and why you appear to feel it's unfair, but ok. -

[ QUOTE ]
They payed and played this game for OVER TWO YEARS, without ANY VRs.
[/ QUOTE ]
And then got them all retroactively, making this point moot.
The Veteran's Rewards system purposefully favours veterans over new players. Just admit it and move on.
[/ QUOTE ]
I shouldn't get into this debate, but your statement caught my attention. When this game started was it fun and still is, however, there weren't all the features available that we now have. As a veteran of this game we went through a lot of changes to the game an remained loyal throughout. When the Devs implemented the VRs, they had to give the rewards to us retroactively because to do otherwise wouldn't have been fair to the veteran players.
It's not a moot point because the Devs rewarded their existing player base retroactively. Example: If the Devs hadn't retro awarded old players and started old and new players at the same point how would that have been fair to the old players who put the pay and play time in? The older players have tested, bugged and helped to improve the game over time and have also helped in promoting the game to friends and family. It is this reason that the Devs decided to give incentives to their long time players. They're not trying to be unfair or unappreciative to new players. As a result, new players have the benefit of getting a more polished game from the work the Devs and the players before them have put into it.
I understand that many new players want to have the vet rewards as soon as possible. Look at it this way, we wanted a lot of the things too early on, but had to wait until they were available. That's not only just for vet rewards, that's also for game features and content as well. I've been waiting for power costumization since the beginning now after FIVE years I'll now have it. If NCSoft allowed VRs to be purchased, sure they'd get an influx of money from new players. Some new players, once they've gotten all the rewards, would probably move onto a new game when something else shiny comes along and that wouldn't be good for this company. The Devs want new and old players alike and the VRs are fair and give everyone the opportunity to gain rewards. All that's required is consistent continued patronage of this game!
