The one thing I would add, though it seems obvious for some, I have noticed it does happen on occasion and can be a bit tedious; Keep ooc comments to ooc channels or tells. :-)
-
You meant no harm, but admit you went into this fully unprepared? You critisize an existing roleplay community, who say they do not need you 'expert opinion', yet you insist on giving it and indeed forcing it on us. You insult us every step of the way and you expect us to listen again? You didn't make a very good impression, I suggest you just drop the subject entirely, and we will accept your apology.

Yeah. I ahven't exactly read a post yet. Sorry. I'll do that now.
[/ QUOTE ]
Uhm, sorry, but would it not have been a good idea to have done so in the first place, would have saved a hell of a lot of typing. :-)
[ QUOTE ]
Basically, i'm looking to make a single area the offcial "RPing zone" and such, much like Mos Entha is on the Chimera server.
Rules?
Well, they'd be simple ones.
No OOC in area chat, no power emoting, things of that nature.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's nice, we're playing CoH here, not SWG. :-) Also, the rules you describe are already in force at GG. No need to take credit for something that is already in place, and has been for nearly a year.
[ QUOTE ]
And, how dare I? Ha. I didn't do anything. I simply was addressing the n00bs in this community, not the vets. Rules can be scary, I was attempting to reasure people. I'm not calling anyone a n00b, not at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps a word to the wise then; Consider your words carefully when messing powerful words like those. Needless to say, you've not made any friends with them, I would say quite the opposite. Tell me how it is, then, that so many people individually scold you for that one?
[ QUOTE ]
I've been with this community since launch. Yeah, big shock.I just haven't posted
[/ QUOTE ]
Have you now? Such an esteemed roleplayer, such an elite, has been there since launch, and until the 1st of Feb 2006 has never even activated his account to the forum? Sorry, mate, that doesn't sound very credible to me.
[ QUOTE ]
All i'm trying to do is bring high quality RP to CoV and CoH. Nothing more. A constant flow of high quality, deep roleplay.
Forgive me if i've sounded like an [censored], I didn't mean to come off that way.
[/ QUOTE ]
Last time; Thanks, but no thanks. GG already has just that.
Forgiveness comes to those who deserve it, you sir, have not. If you did not with to come across as such, you would have read what we said, and you would certainly have phrased your words more carefully. -
*Quickly brushes her characters under the carpet where they are safe from gossip.*
...
*Whistles innocently.* Nothing to see here, move right along. -
[ QUOTE ]
People, you don't have to give up what you love to be part of a roleplaying community.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to sound repetative, but I think it has been pointed out, we already -have- an established community.
[ QUOTE ]
There will be nothing saying you have to be a certain archtype with a certain background. Be as creative as you want, do what you want. It is your character, your RP, no one elses.
[/ QUOTE ]
The same goes for that character's surrounding, the people he/she interacts with, what he/she does in their life, both with or without mask etc, etc, etc.
[ QUOTE ]
A simple ruleset isn't bad nor evil, nor will it hurt RP one little bit in any way, shape, or form. It may only be active at events.
[/ QUOTE ]
People already run their own events. At present, I am actually running a large scale, free for all plot at GG. I don't need set rules to keep my players entertained.
[ QUOTE ]
Making a community is a tried and proven method of bringing more RP to a game, not olnly that but better RP. It'll take away the need to search for another roleplayer, it'll give all a common ground to roleplay with.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, my friend, there are already two of those places; under the Galaxy Girl statue in Galaxy city and under the statue of Atlas in Atlas Park. We do not need any rules or guidelines, nor do we need more places to meet up.
[ QUOTE ]
The city/area we declare as ours will have but one single difference then all the others, you'll be under a ruleset.
You are fine to RP wherever you want however you want, but there... it's sacred. No OOC in "area chat", things like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let me get this straight; You want to 'claim' an area in the city and set rules that everyone will have to follow? And how exactly do you think you can accomplish this, when not everyone in this game or on this server is a roleplayer. You will not get the GM's support, so quite frankly, I have one question for you; Who do you think you are, Statesman?
[ QUOTE ]
To you RPing n00bs, it may sound harsh, I know. But it isn't, it makes for a much more enjoyable experience, gives you much deeper roleplay and such. You can use group chat or tells to convey what you need to OOCly.
[/ QUOTE ]
First of all; How dare you? For this, I can assure you, you will be reported. You have just joined the game, don't know any of us, or the established roleplay community that we have repeatedly pointed out already exists. I have had nearly 10 years of experience in tabletop, LARP and MMORPG's. For you to turn around and call the lot of us noobs, when you have just joined as far as I can see, a few days ago, comes down to flamming and trolling in my perhaps not so humble opinion.
Just because we are opposed to your idea. Sorry, but this is a free-style roleplaying game, if you cannot deal with that, please, return to SWG where it seems to be better in your opinion.
[ QUOTE ]
This can and will be a good thing, I promise. You have my word. It will bring much better roleplay to the Union server, it'll be great.
[/ QUOTE ]
With words like you have spoken just now, you come across as a dictator, and again, for someone who just joined the game and tries to bully his way into an established roleplay community and tries to take control, I really wonder who the real noob is...
EDIT: P.S. Are you actually listening to anything we're saying, as I see you come up with all sorts of comments, but you never really reply to anything -anyone- of us have said. -
Not just that, with the retcon, both Alan and Nevermore changed a bit. I think Wordy should fill you in on the details. ;-) Dafydd and Amy are more or less the way they were way back when, so that shouldn't cause any problems.
-
And I agree, hun, I meant really, that I love the way you put it, it makes me giggle. ;-)
-
You have such an eloquent way of putting things, Reb.
But he's right. We have our groups. If you can get a few people who think like you and are new to the community too, and want to start something like this with you, that's fine. But really, the established RP communities are just that; Established. You can join, that's fine, you're more then welcome to, but don't try and change it, m-kay?
Many of us are not interested, especially when one comes out with elitist statements. I've been roleplaying for nearly 10 years now, and never forgot where I started. No one was born the best roleplayer in the known history. -
She is? Okay, this calls for a party!
And pre-wubbies Fury!
So, dinner at Zortel's then, everyone? I suggest Hannah cooks and there should be fiction. ;-) -
Seconded. I am also Dutch, and agree it is not an excuse.
-
"In further news... This has just come in. In the early hours of the morning, another robbery took place in Talos Island in what is believed to be the fifth in the series of hospital robberies that have affected the hospitals in Brickstown, Independence Port, Galaxy and King's Row. Exact reports of what was stolen are not yet given out by the police. but we will keep you informed of any news that comes in on the subject."
-
You have no idea how we missed Eddie...
-
The roleplay guides are usually a good start, but think of it a little as acting. You create a character (Just try and not make him/her so unbelievably powerful they could well have been a god. This is called 'God-modding' and is often viewed as a bad thing. Also, a character with flaws is a lot more fun to play.), and you create a background for them, like what they have done in their life, what made them decide to become a hero, how they got their powers, etc.
The sky's the limit, and RP is generally viewed as a good way to express yourself, to make a difference where you perhaps can't in real life. It's a way to relax and have fun with other people, like solving a mystery together.
Always feel free to ask questions. Some people might not be as patient as others, but generally speaking, most of the roleplayers around the Galaxy Girl statue, are more then happy to answer questions. -
Which number is the rule then, in which if a couple make out in a horror movie, the boy (or both, but never just the girl) gets killed?
-
[ QUOTE ]
But... it doesn't make sense. If I'd said "I don't play with members of the opposite sex in tents," that would make sense.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would also be a lie. *Ducks and hides* -
Okay, trying to be objective here...
Volcanos, so far, the whole history with Leo, suggests that this plot is set up exactly the same way, and is already giving away the main clue, thus the end of your plot.
I myself have just started a plot, with the help of Ravenswing and Zortel, it is slow in starting off, with only a tv news report and what one of my characters have said. Whether or not any of the assumptions so far are correct, is up to the people who wish to get involved to discover.
I try and keep the mystery up till the end (even when I know I am far too lose-lipped for my own good, no Wordy, back off, no more info for you unless it's been censored by RW. ), that is what makes people get involved, make them curious. Only then will you find that people will get interested and start going for your plots. But as been suggested, all evidence so far states that you are perhaps a bit melo-dramatic and a bit fast.
If you need pointers, ask, that's what we're there for and on number of occasions I myself have aided people with writing/plots and other such delights. I may not always have time, but if/when I do, I am more then willing to listen and help, but it does mean you need to be open for criticism. -
"...And now, we go over to our live news reporter Karin Smith, who has the latest on the subject King's Row Hospital. Over to you, Karin."
"Thank you Adam. This has just been announced. Police are investigating a series of reports regarding equipment and medical supplies that have gone missing over the last week."
"The tight security of this hospital noted the incident of a supply of medicines and ingredients had gone missing in the last twenty-four hours. In that time, other reports have come in from hospitals in Brickstown, Galaxy City and Independance Port. Unfortunately, the police is not open to questions on the subject yet. The commissioner is firmly holding on to the all-saying 'No comment'. We will keep you informed."
"This was Karin Smith, reporting live from the King's Row Hospital. Now, back to the studio..." -
If there's a space left, my level 41 scrapper still needs it, I am more then willing to exemp. :-)
-
Good point, but it happens, and we cannot stop them, the least they can do is to do so in a language everyone understands.
-
I don't explain them, to me, it's an unknown lingo as well, but I guess it can be perceived as being English.
My knowledge of leet is very limited, and I'd rather forget it exists. -
[ QUOTE ]
As for the Spanish speakers, they don't have their own server, so I figure it's fair enough.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, sorry, I -fully- disagree here. They play on an English server, on the Broadcast and other public channels, they should speak English. I am Dutch myself, and moved to the UK two years ago. I am heavily against those who move to another country, or play on a server that is not in their native tongue, and then start having endless conversations in their native tongue.
It's impolite, in fact, it is rude. So, there is no Spanish server. Boohoo, live with it and adjust. The Dutch have their own Global Cat channel, and to my knowledge, apart from an occasional comment in surprise when you find out someone else is Dutch, I have hardly seen any other Dutch person speak only in their native tongue on Broadcast.
So sorry, Cyber, but it's not fair enough.
Edit: Please note that this is what I know of my own experience. If it has happened, then it has been outside of my knowledge, but in the 1200 odd hours I have spent so far on this game, I have only seen this behaviour from the Spanish. -
Being critical, yes, I agree, Wordy. It even felt better writing the second half, I actually -felt- the difference. But, I am still in that mood, and am working on part three, so hopefully, that will come out a bit better.
-
((I offer my sincere apologies for the long wait, but real life came in the way. Part three will not wait that long, that's a promise. Enjoy, and please, as always, constructive criticism is more then welcome. :-) ))
The moss-covered ground dampened the sound of her feet as she started with a steady walk, but soon, that turned into fast walk, and before long, a dead run through the forest, using this immanent feeling of evil as a beacon. Elizabeth and Tobias both slowed their pace as the sensation became so strong, that the air seemed thick with it. Surrounding the pair, the forest had become more... hostile, somehow. The trees that stood around them seemed somehow drained of life essence and stood looming over any who would be foolish enough to pass further. A shiver ran down Elizabeths back as she finally came to a halt, the sound of her footsteps fading. There seemed no other sound to replace it. No birds chirping or the sound of squirrels, as they jumped through the trees. Silence and death reigned here.
Instinctively, she reached into her coat on the right side, checking the blade as she had so many times. It calmed her, it had from the moment she had chosen it as her weapon. The blade and she were one, linked and bound to eachother through magic. When worn, it was invisible, until she called it into view through a magical incantation.
Satisfied with the results of her examination, she turned to Tobias, silently indicating with a nod of her head, for him to show her the entrance to the cave. Like a furry, ginger and white arrow shot from a bow, the fox leapt forward a few feet, and then glanced to his left, to the foot of the hill. Elizabeth crossed the distance and inspected the near-invisible opening in the rocks.
Thick falls of ivy covered the mossy rocks, and indeed an opening in the rocks, large enough to fit a human through comfortably. She pulled the ivy to the side with her left hand, uncovering the opening fully, and glanced as far as the light of the early morning would allow her. Keeping her eyes on the shadows further down the cave entrance, she whispered back. Thank you, Tobias, once again, I am in your debt.
Consider your debt repaid when you come out alive, milady. Came the formal reply.
She smiled into the darkness at his words. As always. Until we meet again.
With that, she started to make her way into the cave.
Inside of the cave, the air smelled even more of death and decay, nearly making her wretch as its familiar stench brought back memories more vividly then she had had since it happened so long ago. Annoyed with herself, she forced them away. This was exactly what he wanted. This was his tactic. Her arm raised, her hand turned palm up. Luminous. At her word, a small sphere formed, floating an inch or so above her outstretched hand. From the inside of the sphere, a soft light began to glow, just enough to serve her need and safely make passage into the cave.
The walls of the tunnel glistened in the faint light of the sphere as Elizabeth made her way through it, careful not to lose her balance on the slippery rocks. At points, it was barely wide enough to let a human through, but by passing sideways and holding her breath a few times, she managed to push through until finally, she encountered a glow that could not but come from a source inside the cave. The chamber she sought. With a gesture of the hand over which the sphere hovered, she dismissed it, its light dimming, and then disappearing. She took a moment to allow her eyes to adjust to the new light-source and the darkness now surrounding her. Once she could determine the way further into the tunnel, she took a deep breath, which she instantly silently cursed herself for.
Following along the wall to her right, she began her way forward, until the tunnel showed an opening into the room beyond. She came to a halt about five feet away from the entrance to the cave and shrugged her shoulders to shake off her long coat, letting it fall to the floor. Her clothes were those she had worn the night before. A gold-coloured top, a dark blue jacket combined with light blue jeans. The difference was that now, her jet-black katana was in plain view at her right hip.
Unconsciously, her left hand reached for the hilt, absently checking it as she crept forward, eyes fixed on the entrance.
About two feet away from it, she came to a halt. She was still in the shadows as the light source came from the right side of the chamber. Stone pillars appeared to rise up to, or spiralled down from the ceiling. Alcoves in the rock around the walls, as far as she could make out, threw enough shadows for her to blend in with, which would leave her invisible and more able to examine the situation at a closer proximity.
Just as she was about to move to the closest shadow in the cave, a deep, distinctly male voice spoke her name. Elizabeth MacGregor... It spat with obvious disdain.
He knew... of course he knew. Liz mentally cursed herself for not having checked for snares set up magically to warn anyone inside who set them that someone was coming. In this case, there was no doubt about who would be coming for him there. She drew a deep breath and took a step into the room, turning to face to the light source to her right. Alexander... its been a while.
He stood with his back to her, looking down at what appeared to be a small open fire, mostly hidden by the tattered cloak he was wearing. Indeed. Too long since Ive enjoyed your screams of agony. No one screams like you do. The cloaked figure turned to reveal the face of a man who seemed in the prime of his life, perhaps late twenties. His face was rugged in a handsome manner; a square jaw starkly outlined the lower part of his face, while fierce, pale blue eyes gazed at her from under a dark brow. A mean looking scar ran across his left cheek, from the corner of his eye, near his temple, to about an inch above the left corner of his mouth. His lips showed a small, but cruel smile. Then again, no one could endure what you can.
With some effort, Elizabeth forced away the memories of what his words implied. All too well she remembered the instances when he had won. Instead, she aimed to focus on the times she had managed to beat him and his weaknesses. Not today, Alexander. Not this time.
The smile on his lips grew a little. I knew something was different about you. The last time news of you reached me, you were still in mourning over poor old Arthur. Light has come back to your eyes... He paused a moment, their eyes locked on each other. Yes, I see you are nearly whole again. His smile slowly turned into a snide grin. Nearly. Tell me, whats he like? Would he squeal like Arthur did?
Remain calm. It sounded through her head. He wants you to lose your temper. He wants you to reveal. Within the cave the sound of a weapon being drawn rung through the air, echoing off the walls. She wanted to yell at him, tell him hed be in for a nasty surprise if he thought it was just her lover would stand by her to defeat him if it came to it, but she knew that giving away the importance of her two sisters, Jared and Juan would take away their edge. If it came to it. Goddess, I hope not...
In an attempt to hide her thoughts from him she leapt forward, her katana raised high over her head to strike hard at him, but he had anticipated that...
((You thought last time was mean? I thought I'd take that idea and roll with it this time. ;-) ))
