Without looking at the specific stats I can't say a ton, but basically there's not a lot you can do to increase the chance of that
See, the way holds work in this game is based on magnitude, starting at one at going up. If I remember right (and I could be wrong) It's something like, minions require a magnitude 2, lieutenants a magnitude 3, and Bosses a magnitude 4. A lot of powers tend to be in the 2-3 range. Anyway, to actually hold a boss you have to stack magnitude, there's no way to actually increase magnitude by itself. So if you hit a boss with it and it isn't held, hit it with another hold power and they'll stack and you'll hold the boss.
The other thing you can do is put the Lockdown +2 Mag hold proc, which gives a percent chance of applying a 2nd Mag 2 hold when you use a power, so in a hold power it'll automatically stack. -
Quote:Well, what is going to motivate a person to bother with new content if they can use everything they've hoarded already to unlock all the new abilities right away? Nothing, really. They take the time to earn the iXP, if they don't just dump threads and inf to unlock them, then spend maybe 80 Emp merits to get all the components and stack up to T4 day 1. Then there's really no reason for them to continue playing the character, just sit them back on the shelf and wait for the next round of slot unlocks. Kind of defeats the purpose of giving people more things to do when they hit end game when they just hoard everything up from the older content.Ultimately I don't see why the devs should care how long it takes anyone to get what they want out of the game. They are allowing people to play for free now, so extracting every possible subscription dollar out of the player base can no longer be a practical goal anymore.

Quote:Go look at Sunstorm over by the Atlas Statue. The simple piece of cloth around his waist as been one of the single most requested costume pieces for player characters.Ok been hearing about this for a while, what exactly is the Kheldian sash everyone wants?
No, I don't know why.
No, I don't know why it hasn't been added yet.
As for the Q&A, a lot of the same company lines and a lot of clueless or just disgruntled people. Pretty much par for the course. -
They said they don't -want- to, but that doesn't mean they won't -have- to if they can't think of a better solution.

Quote:.... yes, clearly you missed the point where I said "missed the missions that hand it out?". Because some people do miss them.Get to 15 or 16, run one of the single-mission arcs (like the one with skulls vs clockwork.) You'v ejust been exposed to time travel and have your portal (at the finish.)
And.. what mission are you talking about? The earliest Heroside mission that awards the badge is the Faultline arc from Doc Delilah, Villainside is Marshall Brass. -
Oro portal is easy to get solo. missed the arcs that reward it? Hit 40 and run to the atlas statue in Recluse's Victory. Bam, done.

Quote:It's both. Some stuff is direct level based chronology, some isn't. There's stuff that's happened, stuff that's happening, and stuff that's *now*. Some stuff is retroactive, some stuff takes place before, some stuff after.I'd say they stopped truely representing the marking of time a long time ago.
Sutter TF happens at the same time as the Apex TF. One's level 50 content, the other level 20-40.
The level progression is a general rule of thumb, it's just not the explicit golden rule anymore. -
Yup, sort of First Ward's problem. The end is just kind of abrupt and not very satisfying.
-
Quote:if you got sent up into the crags to fight selene then yes, that was the end, you should've gotten some reward merits for completing the mission. That's the end of First Ward.... and can't tell if I am done.
I supposes I'll say spoilers just in case...
Just finished the arc with the big battle between Numina and Selene. Is that the end? I am not being sent to any other contact. I was under the impression that there was more, including more with Vanessa DeVore (unless that's part of a TF?)
Vanessa's story was continued into the Underground incarnate trial, as it takes place beneath First Ward. -
Quote:Because I wasn't thinking about the question properlyWhy would they need to go to Ouroboros to use an unlock token that a Primal hero had purchased with Astral Merits?
Though it does mean, if they can't, that Merits are useless to them and they would have to rely solely on salvage drops -
-
yes but people will balk regardless because they can't just dump everything they've hoarded and get to T4 on everything new.
having an opinion is fine, but just poking into almost any other MMO shows that City's system is dead simple with relatively few currencies. -
Let me rephrase: Can Praetorians that have not moved to Prime Earth enter Ouroboros? That is, characters that are still loyalist or resistance. It's possible to get to 30 without ever becoming a hero or villain.
-
The main difference in rewards between Keyes and TPN/MoM is that the latter 2 can still be used to get Empyrean Merits after the initial reward on repeat runs.

Quote:Right, I was pretty aware of this. But I'm also not von Krieger and am much more biased in what I think is important to disseminate. The coffee talk was fun, it was nice getting to know our new resident brit. But for what I feel is 'important info', nothing was really related so I'm not going to report on those sorta things, I'll leave that to VK for when he does them. It was fun though, we're all glad you're doing themWe (Paragon) are not working on Blade and Soul.
As far as the subject matter of the Coffee Talks goes: We'll try, every week, to cover something that talks about City of Heroes; whether it be news about the game itself, getting to know a new member of the Paragon team, covering community events or whatever, we'll have something (This week was getting to know Rob, our new Lead Engineer).
The important part of these chats isn't always going to be the subject matter. Let's set some expectations; we're not always going to rock your sock with new and amazing material. That's not the point of it. The purpose of Ustream is to provide a regular and consistent personal interaction with you, the Community in a venue other than the forums. Sometimes we're going to talk about random stuff, and sometimes it's going to be fairly structured.
And sometimes Tunnel Rat will say things she shouldn't.
All in all, we love doing Ustream. We love the interaction and we really enjoy that we get to dedicate a portion of our week to spending with our players in this format. I plan on continuing to host Ustream for the foreseeable future, and we're exploring new opportunities utilizing outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and starting this year, Google+. G+ Hangouts have some interesting applications and I'm playing around with how we can use them to create a cool, intimate connection between the Paragon team and you. -
Quote:Actually he went to the Rogue Isles to crack a beer with Recluse. This is precisely why Paragon City needs Statesman alot more than it needs Manticore. The city needs hope, not vengeance, it needs to have its foremost hero believe in the system rather than arbitrarily discarding it when it gets personal, it needs to know someone up there is looking out for its people instead of just punishing villains.
The worst you can accuse Statesman at this point is seeking solitude to grieve the death of his daughter, just as he once did when his wife died. -
have you tried creating another Tier 1 musculature to see what happens?

Quote:I think it's less about physical location and more about remaining 'alignment locked' as a praetorian, IE Resistance or Loyalist.Possible...I think...but that 30-50 stretch would be a bear. Technically you can run iTrials from Praetoria...nothing stops you from getting into the LFG queue from there I don't believe.
Yeah, I suppose it's possible. Just would take quite a while. Though they've kind of hinted there'll be some more content past first ward, so, hopefully! -
Quote:Yes, hyperbole will save the day.Exactly what we need.
More currencies!
Positron please stop this madness. Getting thousands of currencies not going to get newbies to keep playing this game, is hard even for veterans to remember all those currencies and salvage crap we got.
There's a lot, but they're all pretty stupid easy to remember what they do and what they're for. You're never going to wonder why you have all these alignment merits and why the merit vendors don't take them or acrue Vanguard merits and be lost as to why you can't make them into your incarnate abilities. -

The word of the new year is: Tangent!
Really nothing of major note in this. It's mostly an hour of Z just shooting the breeze with a couple people about Transformers, Foreign food and driving habits, and other geeky things. Nothing really about City got discussed or brought up.
Two biggest points.
First, Statesman dies in two weeks on the 17th.
Second, after Issue 22 Z announced they'll be doing Issue 23 and possibly Issue 24. (Yes, the whole talk was silly things like this).
So, no big juicy tidbits. Most of the player questions were just opinion stuff or "Please don't take out feature X that is already in place". -
Yeah the GMs are a lot of fun, I definitely like the Crotoa monsters.
And adding on to what I said, once you finish the story arc, that it, it's never heard from again (Except tangentally during the holidays) There's no dangers from the spirit world encroaching on anything, you just move up to facing down the Nemesis Army, the Carnies, all the transdimensional threats, etc. So, it's a fun trip but it feels more like a short side trip that doesn't play into anything.
That I think is just sort of my problem. it's got a -wonderful- lore, the factions are fun to fight against, the characters are even kind of likable (though some of the missions are -gods awful-) But it ends and that's it, it just feels a bit wasted in potential.
It's a good story zone but not good for much else, like all the others mentioned in this thread. I want more stuff to do in zones, make them more habitable instead of just pit stops.
