Quote:There aren't Boss farms anymore; maps with all bosses maybe... but definitely not worth farming.I've seen players doing regular content in the last few weeks already, so I'm hoping the boss farms will get deleted and the fun, creative AE missions will start getting some action.
I'm just waiting to see the fallout from the non-farm arcs that use customs being that they have to meet both the requirements of having all 3 ranks in a CVG (at the risk of losing 50% just for not having one (ie, low level arcs with no bosses *) AND having each of these critters being beyond beginner and intermediate level play in order to get decent rewards.
*I don't know if players can manipulate the new diff setting to avoid a littering of bosses in random mobs.
Lowbie AE custom content/content creators just caught a massive smack to the face.
Custom purists will catch pain on this as well.
At first glance, they went from the extreme of custom farms, past the equilibrium of comparable play and into the extreme of a non-progressive format.
I'm sure some will find ways to deal but most will not want to play customs that have more risk but less reward than their canon (AE and non-AE) counterparts; regardless of if it has award worthy fiction attached to it or not. -
Quote:Now, what if the critter has every power in the applicable set except the 'standard' powers... (this is independent of what is selected in the partner set); is the critter still worth 0XP?
As an example, a standard minion with Broadsword has Slash and Throwing Knives. If either of those two powers are removed, that minion will be worth 0 experience, even if a secondary power set has all powers selected. -
A full 50% penalty for missing 33% of ranks within a CVG? How about just making it a 33% penalty per missing rank? (not that I support this penalty in conjunction with the powers penalty).

It could be a feasible option for HEATs being that they don't have access to Epic/Patron Pools; currently.
[So, why is it that VEATs get the 41+ Pools and HEATs don't?] -
Quote:This is a list of slotting issues within the live game; slots that should or not should be available based on what the powers do. Mid's just makes these issues easier to find.I'm confused. Are you making this list for/from the Mid's planner?
Are these things that are currently slottable on the live servers, but not in the planner?
'Cause, if that's the case, you should chat with St0n3y, since he's currently updating the planner. Have you seen his thread about updating Mid's?
Yes, the list is currently based on the Mid's setup. Although some of this has been double-checked with toons I have on live and/or cross-referenced with Tomax; I will acknowledge that I haven't double checked eveything.
Therefore, I always welcome confirmations both for and against items that may be included in the list. -
Arachnos Soldier - Call Reinforcements not allowed Endurance Mod enhancements or sets; not allowed Hold enhancements or sets; are allowed Defense Debuff enhancements but not Defense Debuff or Accurate Defense Debuff sets?
Arachnos Soldier - Summon Spiderlings are allowed Defense Debuff enhancements but not Defense Debuff or Accurate Defense Debuff sets? If I'm not mistaken, Spiderlings do have an (unlisted) Immob attack... if so, they are not being allowed slotting for Immob enhancements or sets.
(Arachnos Soldier (OT) - Channelgun does Energy damage but Longfang (an extension of Channelgun) does Lethal damage?)
Disparity of:
Kuji-In Sha - Ninjitsu
Reconstruction - Regen
Healing Flames - Fiery Aura
Earth's Embrace - Stone Armor
Essence Boost - Luminous Aura
Hoarfrost - Cold Mastery;
heal powers being able to slot Resistance enhancements/sets vs:
Reconstitution - Willpower
Alkaloid - Poison
Frostwork - Cold Domination;
not being able to. -
I know we already have Patron and Epic Pools available at 41; which is pretty cool... but how about allowing players to choose an additional Side Pool in lieu of (or in addition to) going the Epic/Patron route?
-
So, I exit out of the game and my client starts a pretty big download... any ideas what this is about?

Quote:I was under the impression that it was Marvel's policy as well as to hold all creations of it's artists hostage; hence the exodus of McFarlane and Co. to create Image.Well...from the ARTIST perspective...this is potentially a very, very, very bad thing. Disney policy is to "keep all artwork." This is bad for us artsy peeps. Selling of original pages and artwork is half of our ability to make money. The collector's market is up in arms about this already.
And this isn't a partnering.
Now, there is a slim chance that they will "keep management as is." But my experience and observations have been that when this kind of buy out happens, they like to change things even when the company is doing well.
Case and point: Acclaim buying Valiant comics. Even though they said they had the intention of keeping things as is (and the company was THRIVING, succeeding, beat out "the big 2" in multiple awards, was making millions, etc), they came in and changed EVERYTHING. Acclaim went bust and took Valiant with it. NOT that Disney is going to go bust, but I'm simply saying that Marvel publications isn't exactly doing "well." Financially. NO comic publishers have post-90s boom and comic books themselves have been re-regulated as loss-leaders.
I predict bad things. Just sayin'...
This still all has to pass anti-trust screening and if it does... it is a wait and see scenario. I don't like how Disney churns out it's mouseketeer marketing strat but on the flip side, they do have a lot of holdings that don't fall under that strat. -
Safe Mode isn't the minimum... it gets you set fairly low but runs more chop and lag than actually going in and setting Quality and Resolution manually.
Plus Safe Mode isn't windowed and systems that are needing to use the lower settings get in and out more slowly (because of the switching from program settings to Windows settings (and vice versa)).
The settings that I have minimized for myself, manually, work more smoothly than Safe Mode.
[I finally got off my keister and checked into it... turns out that everything except the Character Detail setting is at minimal settings (when opening the advanced menu from the basic menu); minimum for CD being 30% with the default at 50%; doesn't seem to do much for my personal performance but it shouldn't be discounted] -
Are the Minimum Settings in the basic Graphics and Audio tab the 'bare minimum' or can they be tweaked even lower under the Advanced Settings tab?
-
Update:
After going in a few times, it seems that the market is not affected any more than normal and that visiting the Tailor isn't half bad; probably because they're primarily GUI based systems? (which isn't affected by changing the graphics quality). -
Quote:According to specs, I should have an Expresscard Type 54 slot. There was someone going to make it for ExpressCard, but it didn't work right, and never made it to market. Speed issues of the bus, and some cooling too, I think... been a while.
They've come out with ExpressCard 2.0 (Don't know where they came up with that number...) and so the thinking is that maybe now, there can be External Video Cards.
I'll believe it when I see it. I can say this: Unless your computer has an ExpressCard 2.0 slot, you won't be gettin' it, methinks.
Unless I'm mistaken, any current stuff is very expensive. More than your laptop in many cases. And they're presentation materials... i.e. still shows, *maybe* movie type stuff but in no way anything like what Co* needs, and definitely not 3D at 15FPS in Atlas Park, much less Grandville or something.
We're just not there yet. And it looks like you don't even have a PCMCIA or ExpressCard slot, so that laptop's out. Might think about getting a better GPU'd laptop maybe?
I've done some poking around and it seems that most of the external jobbies currently available are USB attachable modules that hookup to external monitors ($65-$200). It appears that they are more geared to presentations and none really seem to have any hard performance specs (most of what I've read about their performance have come off of laptop forums... mostly negative).
The EC slotted adapters are harder to find current info on (most details are from 2007) and seem to be te ones that cost as much as a new laptop.
I realize that saving for a new laptop may be my best/only option... but I want to exhaust all of my available options (within reason) before plunking down another $700+. -
Thanks again for all of your input. Last question, what is everyone's opinion on external graphics cards?
-
Thanks for the responses; currently my laptop is (at a glance):
Gateway MT3705 NoteBook
Intel Pentium dual-core T2060(1.60GHz)
14.1" Wide XGA
1GB Memory DDR2 533
100GB HDD 4200rpm
Dual layer DVD Burner
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M IGP
How would upgrading to a 5400rpm drive affect performance? -
I need to figure out if doing the following dramatically increases gameplay performance or at least what to expect from these upgrades:
1. Upgrading my 1GB RAM to 2GB
2. Upgrading my b/g wireless conection to n/n+ (Is this reliant on the adapter itself or the router which it may be passing through)
3. Overclocking the CPU (if possible on an intel laptop)
4. Overclocking the GPU (if possible on an integrated graphics card)
[5. Upgrading from a 4200rpm to a 5400rpm drive]
Thanks in advance -
Currently I use a laptop (Intel T2060 CPU 1.60GHz) that suffers from using 32-bit WindowsVista, having a weak, integrated graphics card (ATI Radeon Xpress 200M) and only 1GB RAM; accessing wirelessly (802.11 b/g).
I just had my gaming desktop blow up on me and was faced with the dilemma of how to access CoX with the above stated laptop.
After fiddling around with a painful 4hr client download and install; I now pass this information on to you.
When you start the CoX updater; make sure to click the Safe Mode box before going into the main program.
Once in, open the Menu tab and go to Options.
Open the Graphics and Audio tab and make the following changes:
Screen/UI Resolution: Windowed
3D Resolution Scaling: 200x150
Graphics Quality: Minimum
You may also want to open the Controls tab and set your Control Sensitivity: Turning; to 300% or less.
You will have to exit and restart the client for your changes to take effect.
Once back in, you'll be able to move around in normal mode fairly decently and engage in combat with small mobs (1-3 targets) with few problems.
Respecs and any administrative work should be no problem.
You may even be able to get some minor base edits done.
Rapid movement (requiring moderate to high refreshing of the ambient grahics) and larger mobs/teams (NPC and Player) can cause extended lags and hangs. Super Speed, Teleport and Super Jump may need to be avoided while at this mode of play.
The end results resembles an older 8-16 Bit video game; so a trip to the Tailor isn't recommended.
Zoning may take longer than usual and could cause hangs or crashes.
You may also experience additional lag at the Market.
For those with a bit more memory or incrementally better cards, processors and/or internet connection; you may be able to up your graphics settings (at comparable performance) or play at the above settings with better performance.
If anyone would like to add other helpful tips (outside of "Get a new laptop, noob!"), feel free to do so and thank you in advance. -
I wont pretend to know the ins and outs of theology... not that comparing the study of something as impactful and intrisic as the ages long culmination of the major religions; their parallels and differences comes anywhere in the region of the study of the short life of this particular type of fluff fiction. But I'll bite...
I'n not a suscriber to religious sectionalism or the depths of it's institutionalism. I do support its intrinsic socialism and its concept as a control tool.
Most religous debate that I've seen have little to do with the source material contradicting itself or having it's concept completely changed in subsequent translation. Most debate usually hinges on agreement/disagreement with the presented material or its translation into practical application; the other disagreements and discourse on continuity are usually side arguments made to supports any decision of agreeability or it's practical applications.
Is it a major complaint from me that this person has a problem with the movie... not at all. I just thought it was silly of them to imply that people would break down if the same happenend in CoX canon (as if it hadn't happened already). I thought it was also silly to imply that Hollywood wasn't allowed to do what the comics and other mediums were already doing to their own creations.
And although I like to get into life-eating debates... I think I am done with this one. It's just GI Joe, lol. -
Quote:Not when the basis of your arguement centers on a materials contradictions.
Actually, I think expressing displeasure about an interpretation is perfectly valid, even if the source is littered with contradictions.
You can not like a movie because it doesn't quite match up with your favored version of canon. However, when there are multiple versions of canon, being upset at an additional version of canon just because it's an additional version seems to be self defeating, IMO. If that were a legitimate arguement, then no fanboi alive should like XMen, Spiderman, Batman [or TMNT] in any of its incarnations [outside of the first].
Quote:The debate, I'd think, is actually more over whether said interpretations make sense; any adaptation or translation is necessarily going to change things, but that shouldn't mean that editorial changes should be immune to criticism.
Quote:I don't think that discounting such arguments automatically follows, however. They may have very good points to make. (For one, I do think it's odd that G.I. Joe, which is a very American thing, was turned into a multi-national force. Seems odd that other nations would go along with such a nickname... Of course, I haven't seen the movie, so.)
Quote:As a hardcore fan of the original GI Joe series/comic, I have to say that this movie was the worst GOD-AWEFUL thing I have ever seen. 99% of the story was "original" had had nothing to do with the original series. If they took away every name of the Joes and Cobra, you'd think this was any other mildly entertaining action movie.
Now, believe me, I LOVE the original story of GI Joe vs Cobra. But this thing was so the opposite of the original series, it made my stomach knot up.
SPOILER ALERT *Do not read past here if you don't want to know...*
My belief: If you are going to 'recreate' something as iconic as GI Joe, don't [censored] on the fans that grew up with it. Don't make us feel like the hours we spent, immersing ourselves in their world, was wasted. Don't make us leave, scratching our head, thinking "Cobra Commander and the Baroness are brother and sister? Wait, the Commander is a doctor too? When the [censored] did that happen?"
I think that this movie set back GI Joe from what it should have been. Now it's just a laughing stock, take the money and run, box office manure pile!
Oh, by the way... Cobra Commander ALWAYS WORE A MASK... ALWAYS!! -
I have to laugh at all of the seriousness at which people are taking this. This isn't saying that people shouldn't be a bit disappointed if something doesn't quite fall into a preconceived mold.
Black Kingpins; 2 different Sabertooths between the 4 X-Titles; the birth, life and death of every major comic book villain in the span of 90 minutes, etc... it happens.
It even happens within the original medium; not just in its translation to a different one.
There's really no justification for rallying against an interpretation that isn't 100% true to canon when the source material is littered with parallels, skews and outright changes.
And it really isn't logical to pay $20 to see something that is exactly like something you've already read... especially when it comes with accompanying pictures.
The big thing to remember is that most of the source material was cheesy as heck to begin with and to expect any translation of cheesy material to a different medium with the intent of making it not cheesy... well, lol and good luck with that.
The actuality of the problem is that some people are just too fanboish about fiction to be grounded in reality.
I liked TMNT (movies and cartoons) despite it's lack of it's source material's edginess. Super Mario Bros sucked... don't remember the DD movie. Street Fighter sucked because it tried too hard to keep to character. Blades I & II rocked. I liked the first 3 Supermans and every incarnation of Spiderman (cartoons). Don't like the trend of ensemble villains in comic book movie sequals (original Batman movies and Spiderman). Watchmen was darker and more put together than the latest Batman installment. Iron Man was almost flawless. Spawn sucked, DareDevil sucked, Punisher sucked (1st one... but it had ninjas); villains made Elektra tolerable. X-Men 2 was the best of the trilogy... even with no Psylocke. Transformers was okay even though Jazz wasn't a badge AND he got gutted within 90 minutes. I admit, I got miffed when they scrapped 'canon' when they released Alien 3 but I still liked the movie (hated Resurrection). Got a kick out of Speed Racer but won't watch DB: E.
But point is; I tend to take the presentation for what it is and the stuff in the GI Joe movie isn't any more off-base or unrealistic than anything from the cartoons. -
I'm looking at getting into a laptop and I want to be sure that it can handle a little gaming. Being that their architecture is set up differently from their desktop brethren, I imagine that the MSR/RSR would be somewhat different as well; especially when it comes to graphics.
If you were to make a laptop MSR/RSR for CoX, what would it be? -
-
laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag???? whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat's thaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?
hehe, at least it's not as bad as the old software -
