Quote:The problem with that method is that it doesn't account for the edge case of a member of the opposite sex who plays MMOs a similar/larger amount than you do.It is an easy experiment to do. Tell a member of the opposite sex at a party how many hours per week you spend playing. If they don't wince and move away as quickly as possible, then you are casual. Bonus casual points if you need to deal in larger periods of time that "per week".

Quote:True, except supposing he doesn't NEED his bow to get revenge? What if he gains new super powers that replace his bow. The obvious example I can think of is that he somehow manages to tap into the Well of the Furies taking the "fast path" to power up for his revenge."Manticore breaks his bow."
NO.
Who breaks their chief weapon purposely for revenge? You *need* that weapon to get revenge.
Alternatively the shock of Sister P's death awakens his latent mutant abilities allowing him to kill people with his mind. -
I really, really, hope they do not do this. Killing someone off and then bringing them back largely defeats the emotional impact of killing them off in the first place. No I realize that comic book heroes never stay dead but it still bugs me.

Well the writing is on the wall for defenders, this picture was posted in another thread. Check the top left: "Our greatest DEFENDERS will fall." Clearly the devs intend to entirely eliminate the Defender AT.

Quote:I agree, the only reason I stockpile inf at all is that I enjoy making inf on the market and am to lazy to spend it. I do have pimped out builds on my four incarnates but my other elvel 50s are pretty much shelved so I don't bother to IO them.I used to have a big stockpile of shinies I was quite pleased with. Then I realized that while pretty, they weren't doing me a lot of good in there. So I went back and gave a bunch of my characters more pimped out builds. Much more enjoyable.
I derive much more enjoyment from playing my dudes with IOd builds than stockpiles of IOs and inf. To each their own. -

Well if you enjoy soloing and plot Praetoria has the best starting experience. The story is good and you get some interesting choices. The downside is that it can be a bit more challenging than the other two sides. Low level Praetorian mobs are, on average, stronger than the ones in Paragon City/Rogue Isles so be warned.
For Hero/Villain content the low-level content is not particularly thrilling. I prefer the low level Villain content but Hero side has some decent stories, especially if you run the low level hazard zone arcs (Hollows and Faultline) -
I think what he's asking for is that selecting the intro power in ANY travel pool would count for unlocking the actual travel power in the pool, sort of a weaker version of City Traveler. So, CJ, Jump Kick, Hover, Air Superiority, Hasten, Flurry, Recall Friend and TP Foe would all count as the required pre-requisite for SJ, SS, Fly and Teleport.
I'm not fundamentally opposed to the idea, but I think the Standard Code Rant applies. Making it so that powers in one set count as prerequisites for powers in another set is potentially a major headache. -
Quote:You know, given that both of them are missing from that picture I think the broken bow is misdirection. My bet is on Sister Psyche dying and Manticore going Evil to get revenge (the broken bow is symbolic both of his broken heart and him giving up his father's legacy as a hero to pursue vengeance). Manticore has always been the most... morally flexible... member of the Phalanx so I could easily see his wife's death causing him to go uber-vigilante.Where'd you find this? I didn't note a story on Massively, so was it an ad?
We'll, he was "missing" from the image in that other thread. Then again, so is she.... -
There were two arcs I keep thinking I should make but never get around to.
The first, Operation Dunkirk, was tied into the Portal Corp storyline. Portal Corp is always finding dimensions where Humanity has been wiped out, in this case they found a dimension where the sentient species (Felis Sapiens) is in the final stages of being wiped out and need Heroes to help hold the line while they evacuate the survivors and then shut down the portal.
The second, Smoke Grenades and Magic Mirrors, was tied into the Midnighter's Story. This one was never as heavily fleshed out but the basic plan was to have a Technomagi group (called the Sons of Vulcan) and setup a story where the Hero has to track them down using both Magic (Midnighter Oracles) and Technology (a hacker of some description). I've always liked stories that play with the relationship between Magic and Science so this was going to be my excuse to write one. -

Quote:Short answer is pop-cultural osmosis. It's 18 in California and since most TV/Movie writers live in California they tend to use 18 whenever it comes up in a show. As a result a lot of people tend to assume it's 18 everywhere in America. Also, at the risk of sounding pervy, I had no idea the age of consent was 16 in RI, it's my home state. In fact alot of states are 16. Why does everyone think it's 18?
TVTropes even has a trope about it:

A few little tricks I've learned leading leagues.
First off the league interface won't allow you to move people between teams if the person you're moving or a member of the target team is out of zone so I tend to ask people to come in zone before inviting.
When inviting a League Invite will place the person on a new team (it will also invite their entire team if they have one). A team invite will place them on team 1 but can only be used if team 1 has room. I tend to like using team invites and shifting people to secondary teams as team 1 fills up but YMMV.
When you queue as an open league the queue will wait for 5 minutes (this is apparently a bug, it's supposed to be 90 seconds) or until there are enough people for a full league. That means if (for example) you queue with 23 people it will wait 5 minutes unless someone is in the queue. Consequently it's often easier to fill the league entirely before starting. -
Quote:That pretty much sums up my views on the matter. I'm content with the trials but if the devs ever do implement a solo path I think they would run into the exact same problems you are describing. That's kind of why I'm on flip-flopping on the subject. On the one hand, I can kind of see why this content would have to be hard. On the other hand, I want it to be inclusive to everyone. And on the third hand (yeah...) I never, ever approved of the balance decision to make some ATs measurably weaker on their own because they were better on a team.

Quote:Precisely, for you it's not grinding yet someone else probably would consider it grinding.I for one am someone who has ran trials enough to T4 out a character, and kept on going. I'm not trying to stockpile threads or merits, I just enjoy running the trial content alongside any other 50 content. Does that mean I'm grinding content, because it sure doesn't feel that way. And yet I have a T4'd character, and working on more in the process.

Quote:I call it stockpiling and not grinding since I believe that most people who had large stockpiles of shards prior to I20 were not grinding them, they were simply running level 50 TFs a lot.About the stockpiling part, why not call it grinding? That sounds more fitting, as, IMO, the people loading up on threads/shards for the future Incarnate slots are the real grinders. I personally don't see a problem with having to get new tools to make the new powers. After all, I am willing to play my way from lvl 1-50 without PL'ing, so I don't really see a problem with the Incarnate system's unlocking process.
Grinding is a somewhat loaded word and I don't think I've ever seen an agreed upon definition for it. One person's "grinding" is another person's "running content I love". With that in mind I've come to define grinding as "Repeatedly running content that you don't really like solely for the rewards". Now most people who engage in something they consider "grinding" tend to stop as soon as they have accomplished their immediate goal (which in the case of the pre-I20 shards would presumably have been a T4 Alpha boost).
Someone who hated running level 50 content (and level 50 TFs in particular) would be unlikely to continue running them after getting their Alpha boost up to the desired level. Therefore I figure most people who had large shard stockpiles had accumulated them incidentally in the process of running level 50 content either because they enjoy running level 50 content or because they were grinding it for non-shard reasons (i.e. merits or purples).
I could be wrong, but I think the number of people who were grinding content specifically for the purpose of stockpiling shards was probably very low. -
Well, as I said earlier I don't think the switch WAS to solve the stockpiling problem. If that had been the dev's goals they would have instituted stricter control on trial based incarnate progression as well.
-
Quote:You know, I disagree with this. If the devs' goal in depreciating shards was to make people unable to get the new slots very quickly then they utterly screwed up by not implementing timers on the new rewards. Now I assume that the devs are not idiots, if they had really wanted to force a certain time limit on getting the new stuff then they would have done so in an overt way (one component per trial per day for example). Given that my opinion is that they depreciated shards not to provide a time gate to getting the new stuff but to provide a content gate. The inability to use shards for post-Alpha advancement means that post-Alpha advancement has to be accomplished through Incarnate content rather than simply rerunning the old level 50 content. When just Alpha was available, lots of people stockpiled shards, I hear, and so threads were invented to stop instant Incarnate T4s being crafted on day one when lore, Destiny etc were added.
What that in mind I think the answer to your question is yes, the later slots will almost certainly provide a new set of Incarnate components. Not because the devs hate players or want to prevent people getting the new slots on day 1 but because they will want to depreciate the current set of incarnate trials as a means of incarnate advancement and introduce new, more difficult, trials in their place. -
Well I can't really help you with the PvP aspect but for PvE I'd say that demons works well with most MM secondaries except maybe Storm.
Thermal Radiation and Pain Domination are both nice because they provide additional resistances to supplement the Demons already high resistances.
Force Field and Traps are both good for Tankerminds of any type and the combination of Defense from you and Resistance/Healing from the Demons mean that your pets have good layered defenses.
Trick Arrow can stack it's control and slows with the control and slows provided by the Demon Prince (which is actually pretty good).
Dark Miasma is good with anything.
Posion and Storm I'm less sure about. Storm I can see having trouble, it tends to work best with a bit of chaos and keeping enemies out of melee. Unfortunately Demons work best when enemies are concentrated and in melee. It might work, but I'd recommend caution. -
Assuming you mean the various Fire farms I'm pretty sure that isn't considered an exploit simply because the mods have not been nuking the many, many threads talking about it.

So what you're saying is that when you look at the data in smaller chunks it shows more variation from the predicted values then when you look at the large chunk?

Quote:Sorry, I kinda went with the assumption that anyone buying it on steam would have steam installed, I wasn't aware you could buy stuff without having it installedIt took a little more work than Adeon described but I did it. I couldnt just create my Steam account buy the game then get the CD Key from the site. I had to download the Steam Client and get it there. Still, my old Trial is now shiny and upgraded, and will be Premium once Freedom hits. Good deal.

Quote:Yes. Once you purchase it instead of installing it go into your game library and select the game. You should then have an option that says "CD Key" over on the right hand side of the interface. Clicking that will give you a serial code that you can use to upgrade your account on the NC Soft Website. How does an upgrade work if you're buying GR on Steam but you've got a pre-existing non-Steam account? Does Steam give you a serial number to apply?
That's not a bad idea. Downside is that I'll need to create a new Steam Account since I already have GR on my current one (I purchased in the alst Steam Sale to upgrade my main account). -
Quote:It's a bit of a grey area, that is true. The core difference (to me at least) is that demons are generically religious while angels are not.I'd have to not exactly disagree with the religious implications of the Angel summoning, but rather, point out how fundamentally unfair that idea would be, considering that the game has Demon summoning... like demon summoning lies in some generic grey area of fantasy lore, but angels are specifically religious. But I do see your point.
Demons (and devils) have existed in a lot of different mythologies and are not really considered associated with any single religion. As such the devs were able to make non-denominational demons that look pretty much what people would expect without really risking offending anyone (notice how they very specifically do not resemble common depictions of Satan).
Conversely angels (and especially the depiction of them in Western society) are associated with a specific, modern, religion. While beings equivalent to angles exist in other mythologies (the Valkyries being a prime example) the popular view of angles is influenced (in Western culture) by Christianity to such an extent that implimenting an angel based set that doesn't draw on them would pretty much defeat the point of calling it angel summoning. Implementing it with the traditional view of angels seems like it would open up to much possibility of someone getting a bee in their bonnet about it (especially when you consider the possibility of someone making an evil angel summoner).
