Unlockable Travel Powers?

I don't understand what you're asking for.

... what?

Last time I checked all of the existing travel powers; Super Jump, Fly, Teleport, and Super Speed; are already unlocked by taking one of the preceeding powers in the power pool; e.g. Combat Jumping OR Jump Kick unlock Super Jump; Air Superiority OR Hover unlock Fly; recall friend OR teleport foe unlock Teleport; and Hasten OR Flurry unlock Super Speed.

The only exception so far is the 5 year reward: City Traveler.

Subscribing for 5 years in City of Heroes allows players to skip having to take a preceding power in order to unlock the "actual transportation" power. Given that we do not know yet how this Veteran Reward will map to the upcoming Paragon Rewards program, I'd say we'd be better off waiting and seeing what the intent is for this particular reward.

So, I'm not sure what you're asking, because what you wrote is what we already have in the game.

I think what he's asking for is that selecting the intro power in ANY travel pool would count for unlocking the actual travel power in the pool, sort of a weaker version of City Traveler. So, CJ, Jump Kick, Hover, Air Superiority, Hasten, Flurry, Recall Friend and TP Foe would all count as the required pre-requisite for SJ, SS, Fly and Teleport.

I'm not fundamentally opposed to the idea, but I think the Standard Code Rant applies. Making it so that powers in one set count as prerequisites for powers in another set is potentially a major headache.

Hrm, actually... now that I re-read it for the 5th time or so...

Are you asking to be automatically granted Flight with Hover/Air Superiority, Super Speed with Hasten/Flurry, Super Jump with Jump Kick/Combat Jumping and Teleport with Recall Friend/Teleport Foe? Are you basically just asking to save yourself a power pick?

It's an interesting idea at least, but I'm not sure it's necessary with the way the game is set up currently. It would also make it triflingly easy to have multiple travel powers on one build--take Air Superiority, Hasten, Combat Jumping and Recall Friend, and suddenly you've got 8 powers for the price of 4.

So, if that is what you're asking for, I'm going to have to say /unsigned.

If that was his intent, I do not think it would be likely to happen based on the upcoming Paragon Rewards program, as well as the existing City Traveler Veteran reward.

I'm not entirely sure the developers could be sold on the idea of adding another method to "unlock" travel powers that requires additional development resources and isn't as effective as the solution that is already coded into the engine.

/unsigned because I can see this as being used by some people as a justification for demanding freeform powersets. It would be a tragic misstep on a slipperyslope to ruin.

People can just use their Paragon Reward Points to buy the City Traveler vet reward in a couple of months.

/signed, because the OP's eloquent and logical argument has convinced me.

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

Actually, I just re-read that part of the Freedom, which I had over looked. So this is now a non issue. Sorry I brought it up.

Can... can you please at least explain what it is you were asking for? I'm really curious.

Each of the travel powers has a prerequisite power. So with a taskforce any of the prerequisite would qualify for the actual primary travel powers.

This would be a lesser form of the vet bonus, especially as it would be character specific.

Now that we can get the vet reward in the order we want any way, the issue is a moot point.
