Quote:It normally automagically stamps that I modded/edited something. I blame forum gremlins for it not doing so.I spent a lot of my grade school and high school years volunteering with disabled kids and adults. You may have found my word choice culturally offensive. It was. It was meant to be, as I find posts of that sentiment (which I was quoting) on these boards offensive. In my personal experience, however, the alternative word you substituted is more contextually offensive to me. I am editing my post to reflect that I did not say the word that you have placed in my mouth.
At the very least, you could have stamped that you had edited my post.
Your sentiment is duly noted and should I have offended you, I sincerely apologize. Please let me know if there's a better way that you would liked to have phrased it. -
It's not often that a member of the Community Team will make a post in the Developer's Corner, but we feel it's important to clarify one very frequently asked question.
Will the cost of my subscription go up when I transition to VIP?
NO! Your monthly subscription price will stay exactly the same. Multi-month subscriptions will continue to receive the discount they currently do. One of the overarching goals of City of Heroes Freedom is to provide more value to our existing Community under their new VIP status.
I hope this will put a fork in this particular topic, and as always please feel free to ask any other questions you may have regarding this particular topic here. -
Quote:I will echo this. Freedom will be a success because of the friendliness and positive nature of our Community. Putting this into practice now is a great way to reinforce that sentiment .It's appreciated. I ask my fellow forum goers to remain respectful of the people who don't quite understand how things are going to fall out. Having a positive and friendly attitude while explaining things instead of just marginalizing confused people as "speshul" is going to sell our game to the Premium crowd better than the content ever will.
Make them want to come back. -
While many players are easily understanding the exact details of our shift to Freedom and how it will impact them as either a VIP player or a Premium player, we completely understand that for many the details aren't making themselves clear at the same rate.
We're going to continue providing avenues for everyone to ask their questions, both current subscribers (here on the forums and on Facebook) and lapsed (on Facebook during Freedom Fridays) and will answer each one to the best of our ability.
The only thing to keep in mind is that some of the details are still be discussed internally, and some of the things that we're confident of may change, based on our evaluation of Community feedback and other factors. No matter what the case is, we're going to keep talking to you all and helping to convey the confidence and excitement that we all at Paragon have in City of Heroes Freedom. -

Quote:I am really wracking my brains trying to think of one possible scenario where this happens and I can't think of a single one.So is there any scenario at all where an existing player who has X number of character slots in the current game who transitions to VIP will lose slots they currently have?
The point of Freedom is for us to provide more value to our existing players. VIP is meant to offer you even more of a COH experience at the same exact price. -
Quote:I do not have the answer for this question. I'll have to ask around and get back to you.I was just logging in, and a thought struck me. When Freedom Launches, will it be possible for VIP accounts to reallocate their bonus slots. As in anything over their base 12 on each server for subscribing. I know Zombie Man mentioned they were on 2 separate systems between Premium and VIP earlier in this thread.
As an example, I have 22 Slots on Justice Currently. Would I be able to reallocate the empty slots over 12 if I chose to do so, as long as I was a VIP member?
Thanks -
Quote:Osmethne...just realized...and i have a masters mind you...SO what you are saying
Vet-stays the same 36 slots = 36 slots
Premium- 2 unlocks + Tokens to unlock more or can purchase tokens if want 36 slots.
FREE-2 slots
did i get it right yes or no?
VIP (paying a monthly sub) - Nothing changes, same amount of base slots + whatever Vet slots you currently have + whatever you earn in the future through the Paragon Rewards Program + whatever you decide to purchase using Paragon Points in the Paragon Market.
Premium (Most relevant example to current day is a former player who decides to comeback and not pay a monthly sub, eventual example is a VIP player who lapses) - Two base Global Character Slot Tokens + a GCST for however many Vet reward character slots they previously had. They can purchase more through Paragon Points, or earn more through Paragon Rewards.
Free (Most likely example is a completely new player) - 2 Global Character Slot Tokens. More can be purchased through Paragon Points or eventually earned through Paragon Rewards. -
-
Quote:Rereading it again I see that it was. Then it's really a good thing that I asked about Global Character Slots in the thread called Global Character Slots. Good for me.
I'm going to chose to believe that the reason I didn't immediately process it as such is due to the fact that it wasn't in the form of a Power Point slide.
Hopefully my answer wasn't entirely convoluted sounding in that case...and if it was...someone bring me more caffeine. -

Quote:There is no way to ignore the Paragon Reward Tokens you'll receive for having played umpteen years. Check the other scenarios I proposed .Just so I follow. I've played CoH for umpteen years. Of which I have MM's that I play and love. (Ignoring points I get for free with this new model)Now if I choose to lapse my sub I loose access to my MM's that I've played for years until I choose to pay for it?
If that statement is true I find it to be very very messed up.
Just to clarify something...
Paragon Points are spent in the Paragon Market (mtx store). In other words: You give Paragon money = We give you points (this is outside of the 400 pts included in the VIP Subscription of course)
Paragon Reward Tokens are used to unlock nifty rewards and are granted much like the system currently known as the Veteran Rewards Program (it's a complete revamp/improvement of said system). One of these things you'll be able to unlock (your choice, it's a pretty flexible system) is the MM AT. -
-
Quote:Not that this thread is about the unlockable AT's ...buuuuuut...Zwill, asking on behalf of potential Premium players that no longer have access to the boards: Everything you've said above remains true, excepting if someone wishes to unlock a MM or Controller, yes? In that regard, what happens? They unlock it, but it remains unplayable? Or will the game not allow a Premium player to unlock a historic character that happens to now be a VIP AT.
Thanks.
As things currently stand there's the following scenarios:- Bob the COH Player played COH for 3 years. He decides to come back as a premium player. Bob has X Number of Paragon Reward Tokens to spendand has automatically earned the MM/Troller AT Paragon Reward, which will be unlocked always and forever after.
- Bob the COH Player played COH for 3 months. Bob made a MM during that 3 months. Bob's MM is locked for play and cannot be selected as one of his characters to use a Global Character Slot Token on.
- Bob is a new or returning player who wants to play a Mastermind. Bob decides to come back as a VIP subscriber, stays a VIP subscriber for X Months, during which time Bob earns enough Paragon Reward Tokens to unlock the MM AT. Bob then lets his VIP lapse and he goes back to Premium. Bob, much like 3 year vet before Freedom Bob, will have access to the MM AT now and forever.
- Bob the COH Player played for 3 months, realizes he cannot play the MM that he made during that 3 months and decides to purchase a MM license from the Paragon Market. Bob can play the MM AT to his heart's content always and forever.
- Bob decides that there is so much awesomeness offered by the VIP subscription that his head explodes in an orgy of awesome as he mashes the "VIP SUB PLZ!" repeatedly, thus rendering all of the alterna-Bobs moot.
I personally find that option five is the most likely.
Update 6/2/2011 - edited with correction regarding how some of the benefits of the Paragon Rewards Program unlocks. Apologies for any confusion it may have caused. -
To address the COV/COH 4 Character slots: This was long ago awarded as a benefit to all subscribers. All current subscribers have those additional character slots. For this reason they will be a VIP subscriber benefit.

Quote:Dechs, I really have nothing more that I could add to this post...But it is up to us to make it work. Not Beasty, not Zwilly, not Posi nor War Witch nor anybody else. It is up to us.
We, the superheroes of Paragon City, are what will make this work. And I don't mean we as in me and you and every other you reading this. I mean we as a community.
People come to this game to be superheroes, but they stay for the community. These new Freepers or Freeks or whatever you want to call them are going to come here to get in some tights and knock some people around. They'll have a blast, we know they will, because this game is fun. At the end of the day, though, you can only bust so many skulls by yourself. They're going to look for more reason to stay.
And they will find it in our community! But only if you show them. Stay on your home server and engage as many of these freeks as you can. Take them on high level teams, show them what characters are capable of, what fun can be had spending time with friends. Lead them on low level TFs, show them the joys of supersidekicking and never leaving friends behind because you're too high level. Show them that you don't need to exclude a friend because you never need a tank or a healer or a DPSer or anything else for that last spot. That they only need superheroes. Or supervillains. Or super rogues and vigilantes and praetorians and aliens and angels and demons and even catgirls. Let them know that you just need to be with friends and you can accomplish anything.
Show them these things, and they'll fall in love with this community just like you did. Just like I did. The game will be able to grow and prosper, which leads to more development resources, which leads to a better game experience for all of us.
I ask you just one more thing before I end this post.
Hold me to the same.
I've been saying it since we started preparing for this announcement, the Community of City of Heroes is our strongest selling point. For the past 7 years you've continually supported us and each other in a way that I can only refer to as inspiring. I have no doubt that we're going to be successful in pulling new players in, and the utmost confidence that the reason they're going to stick around is you guys, the awesome Community...oh yeah and there's a bunch of other cool stuff too... . -
These are perfectly valid concerns to have, and one that I personally believe you'll be pleasantly surprised with once we open beta up to everyone that the new in game store, or as we call it, The Paragon Market, is pretty unobtrusive and not "in your face" at all.
A lot of consideration and time has gone into the design of the store and it's different UI elements. We're doing everything we can to make sure that it represents the City of Heroes experience.
As to the specific items in the store, you'll all have a chance to provide feedback once we open up beta to the general public. We're looking forward to your thoughts. -
