Quote:When do you think we'll get real customization on things like Aim, Buildup and perhaps Power Pools and Epic/Patron powers?
Alternate animations and nearly all primary and secondary powers customizable, is not a bad start.
I'm sure they'll get to travel powers and so on in an update or two. -
OP, that's your idea for one issue?
Damn I wish you were a dev (who could actually implement a mega wish list like that for an update). -
I look good in red, admit it.
Big finish......You're always... Aaaa daaaayyyyy....Aaaaa waaaayyyyy! -
The sun'll come out
Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on
'Til tomorrow
Come what may
Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
I love ya Tomorrow!
You're always

Quote:Well, no subscription fee does make it something to try out, regardless of who makes it, I must say. Not to mention the whole superhero theme. If there is one thing that could pull me away from CoH, it would be a better superhero MMO.
I'm interested in seeing the game get more refinement as it works it's way through alpha/beta, especially with the animations which are very rough right now, because who the hell doesn't want to fight alongside Superman Batman and Wonder Woman. -
I agree with the basic gist of Elfs post, I made a similar point yesterday, though without the same panache.

Quote:I hear a lot of wah wahwah...I am flying to con from Germany.....I doubt I am the one coming from the farthest either...If it was important to you, youd make it happen...perhaps a few random exceptions but, ya, no more excuses
Germany wow, hey more power to you, have fun and share details!
We've been spending pretty liberally this summer on furnishings and electronics, all of which we'll keep enjoying long after the Con is over. ;] -
Quote:Again, I am now giving it the benefit of the doubt since you've mentioned it is in pre-alpha. But, I can probably show you some beautiful pictures of Detroit that might make you want to move there.
Heh, I've been there, nough said.
If you thought DC was further along it definitely would be a disappointment, but if you compare it's pre-alpha state to coh/cov & co which all looked and played like crap, I'd say I'm pretty interested in seeing the finished product.
"And, free is a wonderful price. If that's true, I am sure I'll give it a shot."
Free is a pretty smart choice since they're entering the market late behind cox/co.
Quote:SOE. You know, the same company that published Star Wars Galaxies, The Matrix Online, and Vanguard.
Never played any of their mmos, but they also made Evercrack 1 and 2 (#1 was so popular people had to get counseling to quit), sony acquired Matrix from Warner (taking a mess off their hands so they could get the rights to DCO), and all of SWG's problems were LucasArts fault (the nge was completely their idea, so was the time line).
Vanguard was an absolute bomb like Tabula Rasa for ncsoft, but let's not pretend we're not going to be interested in a subscription free game based on DC comics, just because the dreaded sony is producing it, or even because of some lifetime sub w/ co. -
Sorry, this is the same section of the boards which periodically decides the greatest of avatars, and routinely award the winning nod to some no effort, copy paste picture of a dog with a bandanna, or the like.
No tank needs it's hand held with some forum win, they let the wimpy scrapper compete, then beat the living tar out of them and take the trophy anyway. -
Quote:Uh, I played it. Right there on the center of three consoles set up at the very end of the San Diego Convention Center, right after coming out of Hall H from James Cameron's Avatar screening.
Not being Alpha may explain why it did blow like a tornado.
I did not see any stunning visuals. Not in the positive sense, anyway. So, I'm wondering ..
When did you try the game? Huzzah?
CO in alpha one year ago,
DC the same time one year ago,
People have their preference, but it's yet to start alpha and the game will likely have another year of development.
Doooom? Sure why not, here's some tinfoil for your hat on me. ;] -

I've always wanted swinging in this game, but now I've tried it in that other one, I want it even more.
The swinging was my least favorite, goofy fun for kicks, but as a means of getting to places more patience is required then is desirable.
Quote:For you maybe. Many others disagree heartily, myself included. I didn't play it, but the videos I've seen just... *ugh*.
I think you'd have to try them really (especially rocket boots), the videos don't capture how they feel, and still to your other point not everyone likes CO travel powers, that's absolutely true.
Like I said I was given the chance to play it for free for a year, and it was entirely boring like a complete feeling of wasted time, but the travel powers were done well.
But if I were going to pay a sub solely for a Travel Powers Online mmo, it'd require a hell of a lot more ways of getting around.

I *do* have one question, though: I thought DCO was going to be pretty sweet but now I'm hearing it blows like a tornado through a trailer park. Any 1st hand knowledge on this? Is it worth trying?
It hasn't gone to alpha yet, so no one has first hand knowledge of the game, not even the "blows like a tornado" informant[s].
Well some mmo sites have of course, here's a few snippets from the most recent.
"We knew going in that the game was still in the pre-alpha phase; despite this, the level of detail within the title was really quite impressive. If it werent for the fact that the game is clearly not finished, the visuals were looking good enough for it to even release tomorrow." -Gamescom 2009 interview
A few more tidbits, like,
it will be free to play, no subscription fee (which is pretty cocky for a game that's going to blow lol), there'll be Heroes and Villains at launch (you'll choose a path that'll lead you either to the Justice League or the Legion of Doom), there'll be personal/group lairs, it will be available for both pc and ps3 at launch, character creator similar to cox/co with power customization equip-able weapons/loot that will auto configured to match the rest of your outfit.
Their summation of the missions structure:
"the demonstration shown at Gamescom took place in S.T.A.R. Labs with the Joker and Harley Quinn giving the player character a mission to complete. It seemed that a virus had been unleashed during some form of experiment and ended up infecting the scientists who needed to be taken out as a result. As we plow through enemy after enemy, it became clear that DCUO has certainly nailed the combat aspect for an adaptation of the DC Comics license. When Solomon Grundy, Lex Luthor and Bizarro turned up to help his player character take down a large mutant boss, it was certainly an interesting moment. The Joker then gave another mission; to deliver the item to a specific drop off point in whats known as a FedEx mission. Delivery missions in most MMOs are relatively easy, but when Hal Jordan (the Green Lantern) turns up to try and stop you, you know its not going to be a walk in the park."
The visuals of the game are stunning, not like the plastic look of co, but more like what a real coh 2 might look like.
If the game plays remotely like coh, while free to play, with the dc title, locations (metropolis/gotham/atlantis/krypton), and nearly endless characters and stories to develop, hard to see the blows like a tornado thing working out. O-\-<]: -
Quote:And: this isn't CO. You want those powers, play it. Our powers are fine - swinging looks *stupid*.
I was bored to tears with that game for the year I tested it, but the travel powers were just hands down better then CoX in every way.
It says much about the rest of the game that the movement powers are more fun then most of the content. But they did get them right. -
Quote:ZOMG a whole server left us!!!!!!!!
Champion server has gone to teh Champions Online now!
Whats next?
Well after seeing others having so much fun playing it, I broke down and decided to buy it like everyone else.
What really sold me was the stunning, majestic visuals, and the awesome, kick *** combat.
It's the superhero game of the year hands down.

Quote:Doesn't Axe have one Knockup power? Slotting for KB in a KU power is awesome. They just fly higher.
Jawbreaker for mace does k/u, six slotted with all k/b SO back before ED, used to go around lowbie zones to see what would catch the most hang time. Hellions in perez, something like a 80 foot vertical, funny as hell. -
Quote:With the new mission difficulty options, the ability to get all those spawns on single missions has made it fun for me to tank
When the feature was first opened up for testing, I got a scanner mish in PI with council and I let out a quiet squee when I got inside, my wife looked over and smiled, she knew that was tanker heaven. -
An updated graphic released today, as a consolation prize. -
Your question has already been answered, but here's my f/m's current build to give you some k/b io slotting ideas if you're interested. Have fun. :]

Quote:The best thing that can happen to this game is having Champions Online and the possible DC MMO live. Competition only makes this one better.
Multiple PAX attendees reported that Matt Miller looked very tired, while that could've been for any number of reasons, the davs are clearly burning the midnight oil big time because of the added competition. -
