  1. Thoroughly good read. This is what forums were made for.

Ha! I did that too once.

Luckily I have very few friends, so it didn't continue for long

Personally, if I had to choose between the two I'd go with +defense. He's a little squishier than I like and his damage numbers are off the freaking chart already. If I had my druthers I wish my Inv/SS tank was a brute because he's tougher than he needs to be and I'd like a little more damage out of him, whereas I wish my Fire/Fire brute were a tank because I'd like him a smidge tougher and I'd be willing to trade in a percentage of the ridiculous damage he puts out.

And again, even with my recharge numbers, your talking about hitting Rage and Fiery Embrace before jumping in that mob, then Burn then Foot Stomp then... well then nothing, because there's only a boss standing in front of you by that point, chuck out a single target attack or two and then on to the next mob. If you're fighting +4 mobs they may be slightly tougher and you'll need to drop Burn again which is not a problem because it recharges retardedly fast and is up and waiting for you.

Either way, good times are ahead of you my friend, enjoy! )

Thanks bud, you've been a tremendous help. I'll roll a tank.

    If I could +rep you I would!

Thanks for that link, so it's always going to con purple regardless, but the truth of the matter is that it won't all act like it's got the same relative difficulty to people of levels above/below it? That's interesting.

Ah ha! Now I get to grill you (pun definitely intended) about FA/x tanks!

On unideal mobs (presumably toxic?) what sort of settings can you handle before it becomes either too slow or too dangerous to solo? Can you tank as the main tank on 8 man teams without getting overwhelmed?

    Thanks!

And I demand a P value, statistically significant selection unbiased cohorts and measure of confounding variable control before I accept your study!

    I jest, I jest. It's a fairly valid question.

But afaik, GMs are always +x regardless of your level, but presumably the added effects from the alpha slot would definitely improve one's odds.

But less chances for NCSoft to be sued if the card details are snaffled!

If a central server holding personal information is hacked (as Anonymous' recent bit of SQL injection and SE have shown is possible with HBGary) then the company is personally liable if it can be shown that their security issues are ultimately to blame. If someone has a DPI node on your line or (somehow) has a data exchange DPI node or you're using an unsecure network then that doesn't make NCSoft liable for your card details funding some anonymous criminal.

It puts you at greater risk, but them at less risk.

    Not a clue.

A method others have posted is paying through paypal: send your friend x amount of money for their paypal account to use as funds for the booster pack.

My INV/SS tank jumps into a mob of purples, I put foot stomp on autofire and go make a sandwich. Eventually they all die. My FM/FA brute jumps into a mob of purples he dies if I stop to blow my nose for a minute BUT if I'm attentive and attacking I've cleared that mob in seconds.

Interesting stuff. Out of interest, is it best to focus on +recharge for perma hasten (and all the wonders that brings) or +defence for FA/SS survivability?

Essentially, will popping off Healing Flames every couple of seconds and having mobs die much faster be better than having extra damage mitigation? Or is it possible to make a build that has both?

He's softcapped to s/l, and outside a few exotic damage types or debuffs, healing flames handles everything else.

A tank will give you a slight edge in survivability which will help with FA, and if you are not deadset on being a walking chainsaw the damage you will be able to put out with a FA/SS tank will more than suffice.

Cool, thanks for the input. Presumably the biggest determinant in tank survivability with this set is increased raw numbers healing from Healing Flames?

That's only part of the reason it's despised. It's still not great even without the debuff because it restricts ones movements without a prompt. I'd be fine with it if it offered a prompt like teleport.

I do recommend some defense for Fire Armor. If you get a decent amount (within a small purple of softcap), You will be a very tough whatever you choose with decent resists, a great heal and a fantastic end recovery power. Everything else is cake.
Is the damage for brutes noticeably different? I've never actually played a tank as anything other than taunt machine, so I've no real frames of reference for damage between the two sets.

Providing the team members that had set it at +4 could handle the TF without me, the lowbie, Id' probably think "Sweet Jeebus these guys are awesome letting me get these sweet rewards, I can't wait until I'm as uber as they are!".

I'm a very casual player (heck, I only just figured out how to sign up to the forums ) and I don't feel perturbed by the existence of (+x) level toons or fully IO'd toons, I feel strongly encouraged by their presence because whenever I get to team with them I get to see just how super duper my builds can become given time.

I don't have to get all of my incarnates/IOs in a single month, it's a nice thing for me to have to keep me playing and slowly, but noticeably, getting better over a course of months/years.

    This.

The only people who'd feel bad that other players are stronger than them are the people who care as much/more about the efficacy of their character than they do about playing a character whose playstyle they like and those people will find a way to make their character uber no matter what. Part of the brilliance of IOs and Incarnates is that one can take the shoddiest of the shoddy and turn it into a God-slaying machine.

I pray this doesn't happen. This would create a horrible dichotomy between Incarnate content and non-Incarnate content. Some characters are completely legitimised by their Incarnate global buffs and stealing those hard earned slots away whenever one strays into the vast majority of game content would be a gigantic kick in the 'nads.

If I'm playing a character who suffers large problems with blue outside of his Incarnate slotting then returning to content that gives me this headache again after having seen how awesome he can be without recovery issues would just make me cringe.

    Brute vs Tank

So I'm considering rolling a Fire Armour/Super Strength combo and I've been a little uncertain about whether I should roll that combo on a tank or a brute. I'm not looking to be an uber farmer, I'm looking to be team oriented, but also more than capable in solo. A friend of mine's properly decked out FA/SS tank can really hold her own in solo with +2/x8 spawns (just regular content, she's no farmer either), but I've never seen a brute version so I'd like to know the main differences are between the two.

Furthermore, is this a type of tank that's going to be able to tank in teams without getting itself splattered? It seems hugely damage oriented, so is it fair to say that it has a tough time coping with the incoming damage on large teams compared to other tanks?

    Goals for the build:
    • Easy soloing at x8 spawns (+level doesn't bother me)
    • Capable main tanking on TFs and general teams
I'd love to hear the opinions of the forum on whether a brute or a tank would be more suited to my needs. Furthermore, if anyone feels that another type of tank or brute would better meet my goals then feel free to say so.

    Cheers!

Short answer: I love my Claws/SR brute. Since 30 it's been at 37% defence, meaning a single purple inspiration soft caps it. Now that fitness is inherent and GR is live, one needn't choose between getting all the powers and Aid Self, plus the Body Mastery epic makes this build's endurance issues perish.

    Doesn't work for me:

    Mutant booster EU: id=200

    id=202 item not found.

Using the above posted AmericanProxy method reveals that the id=197.

    Confirmed Working

I'm an EUer, but I escaped the dead EU servers and migrated to the NA servers. Since doing so it's been annoyingly tough to get booster packs for my NA account, since codes are no longer allowed and the 'US version also available' link only exists under a select few items. To get around this painfully poor site design (or deliberate attempt to prevent an exodus from the dead EU servers) I use the following method:

    1) Find the NCSoft store link on your browser of choice and copy the URL in the address bar

    2) Enter copied URL into AmericanProxy (Google it)

    3) Guide to the desired item on AmericanProxy and copy the URL from the URL input bar on the proxy engine -- not the URL in the address bar, that's encoded

    4) Exit AmericanProxy and input the copied URL into your address bar to receive the NA page -- This step is VITAL: using a proxy, VPN or any other shared network to process secure information is EXTREMELY unsafe as anyone with a malicious intent and modicum of network security knowledge can intercept your data. You MUST process the payment through your normal browser, not AmericanProxy.

    5) Process your payment, remember to check that your card details reflect your genuine card country of origin as by default it'll be set to The United States of America. Changing your details to the correct values (e.g. UK, Germany or France) will not prevent you from retrieving the US store item.

    6) Apply to your account. Even though the screen doesn't say so, the code will apply to your NA account

    7) Hope and pray that the NCSoft marketing department will revert to allowing us to gift codes and access non-local products.

Hope this helped someone out there!
