There are more than one build strategy and play style and more than one ways to alpha slot. Generally, and imho, alpha slots are about covering any deficiencies in a build. They don't seem tobe good at making a build "more uber." They are good for covering areas where you have sacrificed a little something.
If your build is already doing very well, the alphas will make it only slightly better. If you have a specific weakness, like being an end hog or w/e, then the alpha slot can be a real life saver and make a larger difference. -

Funny how long it takes me to notice it. Was on a ITF the other day with good buffs. We had almost finished a mish when we, the brutes and scrapper, noticed we didn't have our toggles up. lol.

To take full advantage of the Alpha slots one should make a build that is 'deficient' in one of the areas where the slots can be beneficial, AND don't plan on exemplaring.
A well built toon with the ability to exemplar down well gains less from the Alpha slots than other toons which are not -
The alpha slot seems to be to shore up deficiencies in builds rather than to make them more uber.
The fewer deficiencies in your current build, the less the alpha helps.
I chose the +rechg/+stun for my nrg melee toon because I had not slotted for +Stun at all. I had already gotten my rechg and dmg to the ED redline and the acc was all equivalent to at least 2 SOs. -

The UI seems to support having more kind of boost at a time, but with only one slotted. Can I actually have more than one and switch back and forth between them?
If so, what are the stipulations? -

funny you should mention Silent Blade. I've done two Peregrine safeguard missions and her and her minion appear as floating bags of money. To complete the mission I have to use my non target AoE over and over until they snuff it. No resistance, nothing.
But I didn't see the money bags. Nor anything else. -

I got probably 8 or 9 purple drops before this patch. Not a single one was from an AV, GM, or even an EB. There was nothing difficult about getting them; I just got lucky.

Purple recipes have never been difficult to get, just time consuming., so I'm not sure how calling for greater challenge relates to purple recipe drop rates.
