That's some good tips. I disagree on using more than 3 colors. 2 should be considered the standard, 3 only with the third color used very sparingly, and using more than 3 colors only in very special circumstances where the creator knows exactly what he's doing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, I disagree with that. And see, that's what I mean about other guides that give those simple rules: "Use contrasting colors." "Don't use more than two colors."
Those rules sound like they will provide a safe path that will keep people from making horrible costumes, but they don't. Because players will use those rules and create a costume with two *clashing* colors (contrasting colors of equal hue and saturation clash) that's an eyesore.
So, rules of using one, two, three, or four or more colors is really a useless rule unless you talk about *how* to make one, two, three, four or more colors work together.
Soulie described how to add extra colors as accents or neutrals to buffer contrasting colors, which are excellent design tips. -
Don't tell the others, but I usually cringe at the style suggestions most players make because they say things like "use contrasting colors!" without realizing the many, many ways that that statement is just wrong.
However, you've got a great eye and good handle on theory of design.
Five stars. -
OK, gang.<ul type="square">
[*]The Devs have gotten lots of feedback on this already in numerous threads, so this isn't condescending to thanks for feedback. This is an announcement, not a request for feedback. In fact, this was announced earlier, look at the date of the patch note. It was discussed on the board then.
[*]Setting levels of rewards seems to have coding difficulties. When they try to close one loophole another appears. That's why HOs and SHOEs are hardwired to be only level 50 now. And so, no, you can't get a SHOE or HO reward from these trials/tfs. And you're going to have to live with a level 40 Titian-O if you're the right level. However, consider that....
[*]A Titan-O is a horrible reward. In my opinion. Even if at level 42 you got a level 45 Titan-O (that's +3 to you), you would outlevel it at level 49 and be forced to discard it. With the xp and other rewards of this tf/trial, you can easily buy a high level multi-aspect IO which won't ever be outleveled.
[*]No "Giant Monsters" here. Just Monsters. They're AV ranked foes. A team of 8 couldn't beat a Giant Monster unless its HPs were severely crippled.
[*]Rare Recipe Drops: I know for sure that the Eden Trial does give the choice of a rare recipe. I'm not sure though if it's a Trial Pool... it should be. If it isn't, bug it. Does anyone who's done the Sewer Trial recently know if there's a rare recipe option at the end? And if yes, if it's a Trial Pool?
Now, for Lighthouse: <ul type="square">
[*]Actually, don't know why the Sewer Trial was lumped into this announcement. The patch note had nothing to do with the Sewer Trial. Why was it mentioned?
[*]I'm kinda siding with some of the flak with regard to letting 'legacy missions' go unretouched. The devs beefed up Faultline and the RCS and got rave reviews. Positron admits the Positron TF is flawed and need revamping 'someday.' Do you guys really want a bunch of legacy missions and TFs cluttering up the ladder of advancement for new toons with klunky and kludgy design? I'd be happy if a whole new zone gets bumped back an issue if you spend one whole update revamping and cleaning up the problems in the legacy missions and TFs.
-

Is the enhancement table scalable? The base storage one.

Haven't found a window name for it. Looks like no. It scales to the Health window.
And you're welcome RagMan. -
Any new HOs are now only level 50. If you're under level 47, then you won't even be offered a HO, just a rare recipe or a +3 SO.

What about all the other posts, like the ones in the "Blaster", "Controller", "Mastermind" groups? The history on those only go back like 4 pages worth. What happened to all those old posts? It was extremely useful to be able to search for a topic over a years time frame. Why even have a search function that looks for posts that are at least x amount of months or years old when the oldest ones are only a month old? There was alot of useful "guides" in those forums that were never submitted for addition to the "Guide of Guides". Is all that info gone forever now?
[/ QUOTE ]
They were deleted in the last forum purge. About a week ago.
For the longest time people have been warned that only the Players Guide forum was immune to age-out during forum purges. Forum purges are necessary to keep the database from becoming too unwieldy (darned slow) and buggy. If there were important threads in other forums someone should have alerted the mods to move them to players guides.
We lose a lot of red name (developers) posts that way, too, unfortunately. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ah, there indeed is the problem. The links pointing to the other sections of the thread are broken, but the sections are all there with the sublinks for the individual guides. Yes, that will require some serious editing. At least I can fix the link on my SG's site (which caused me to find this problem), but Ex or LH may have some work cut out for them
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, they're broke for me, too. Don't know how that happened since I checked each link in the first post and opened up each section in it's own tab when I first posted it. Now, instead of the link having the right thread number and post number, both numbers are identically pointing to the post number, which brings back an 'access denied' error. Either there's something buggy with the forum software or some moderator thought they'd 'fix' things on me.
I'll get it updated. Thanks for the alert.
And yes, all the subsections *are* there. If the link doesn't take to you "VI. Combat Mechanics" then just do a quick browser search (Edit / Find) for "VI." or for "Combat" while you have that first post of the Guide to Guides open in your browser. Everything off of the first post is all in that one and same thread. -

Is the Power Boost guide here or is that in an AT subforum?

Here it is. Sorry I missed it. Wouldn't hurt if it also got linked in the appropriate AT guides, too. -

Please add WittyLibrarian's excellent Lady Grey Task Force Guide to this list.
That is, assuming WittyLibrarian's ok with this.
Edit: All right, he's given the ok in a PM. Is it a problem that his guide is off-site?

Next time the top level posts are updated, all the links added to this thread will get folded in. Thanks for the link. -

Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement:
<ul type="square">[*] The combative inhabitants in a zone will move off the streets and to safer locations when a Rikti Invasion takes place.
[/ QUOTE ]
That was a bad idea.
Take a look at this pic of too many citizens in Kings Row during an invasion. That's about 50 being rendered (the cap), the whole length of the street had about 300 more.
*These* you should be taking off the streets in an invasion, you know, because all non-combatants were advised to seek shelter, perhaps.
Was this an internal miscommunication? Like so, maybe:
Lead Developer: "Too many critters during an invasion creating lag, get the NPCs off the street." <lead developer is thinking of civilians and traffic>
Coder: "Okey dokey!" <coder gets rid of just combatant NPC foes/factions>
I thought it was great that combatant spawns were joining the fight to save earth, you know, like how Vanguard recruited villains? If you didn't want combatant foes on the streets, then why did you fix the Scrapyarders so that they con as enemies to the Rikti?
Was this because you couldn't get city-spawn Rikti to con as friends to invasion Rikti? (You should fix that because it's still a problem within missions as ambush Rikti battle mission spawn Rikti.)
Was it because you thought players were exploiting city-spawn foes that conned grey to fight the Rikti for them? (It can't be exploited because rewards are proportional to damage done.)
Was it because you're trying to alleviate lag? I've never experienced combatant foes creating lag outside of the ship raid (which, by the way, I've seen no reduction in Rikti on the ship raid, even though the last patch said so). Combatant foes are in small groups spaced out that you never see more than four to five spawn points at once... that doesn't make lag.
Fifty or so civilians all in one place create lag... all the time. Whenever they start piling up on the walkways or by the trams. Get them to despawn once in a while. -

What's up with not being able to heal the RV heavies? Is this part of the "There were additional changes to the heavies that didnt make it into this build. Look for them in the future" type things that didn't get put in with the last patch? If so, there's no mention of it at all in today's patch notes.
After fiddling around with it today for a bit it seems like a tolerable change, so I'm just wondering, mostly, since I know the players hates it when changes are made all stealthy like.
[/ QUOTE ]
Response made in your other thread, including link to dev post on change.

Response made in that other thread: There is no dev post on the change. Not healing is not mentioned in the patch and we have no dev confirmation whether this is a bug or a secret nerf. -

Rewards
Characters over level 40 cannot select the Multi-enhancement from the Eden Trial. Added SO Enhancements to the Eden trial choice dialog box.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem I have with this is that the level range for the Eden Trial is 39-41. Why should a hero who is in the correct level range (Level 41) not have a chance to receive the Multi-Enhancement that is the original reward?
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I see almost no value to the Titan-Os. You get a multi-aspect enhancement that you outlevel soon enough. OTOH, you can chose the rare recipe that makes a multi-aspect IO that you'll never outlevel and, if you don't want it, is worth more on the open market because it's part of an IO Set.
I think the Devs are doing everyone a favor by restricting the availability of Titan-Os. -

ZOMG! It's a girlfriend in the thread!
Quick, everyone, brush your teeth, wash your hands, and get your pants back on! -
Excellent guide.
However, I'm sorry to cast a shadow on this, but in the past such strategies of making things 'perma-' wound up eventually being 'nerfed' by the Devs so that they were no longer 'perma-'. Hasten itself is an example of that.
Thus, Dominators beware: if you burn a respec to create perma-Domination, do so with the knowledge that one day Domination *may* be changed to prevent perma-Domination. Until then, enjoy!
I'm not advocating one way or the other whether perma-Domination should or should not be in the game. Just raising the possibility so that if it happens, it's not such a big surprise.

I'm still working on an updated and cleaned up version of this guide. It has a lot of historical junk in it that was there to forestall questions, because a lot of this stuff was debated at a time when there were multiple conflicting sources of information for various numbers. But actually, this *is* basically the source for this stuff these days, so I am working on a version that eliminates some of the historical and outdated stuff, and collapsing the guide to current information only. This version, being in the guides section, will always be around for historical reference any way. Its taking a bit of time to come up with a format I'm comfortable with, in terms of readability. But hopefully, sometime before Issue 11 rolls around, I should have it done. It might even fit in one post: that would be the first time in several versions.

New Guide to Guides -- Issue 10 Comprehensive.
The Guide to Guide keeps track of all guides except Archetype Guides. If you have a new or updated AT Guide (e.g. a guide for a Dark Melee/Regen Scrapper), then please:- Put your AT Guide in the Player Guides Forum (and not the AT Forum). The Player Guide Forum is the only forum which doesn't age out old threads.
- Put a link to your AT Guide in the Guide to Guide threads simply because many people keep an eye out on that thread.
- Put another link to your AT Guide in the appropriate thread which has the Guide to AT Guides (e.g., put in the "Guide to Scrapper Guides" a link to your Scapper Guide that your wrote). Eventually, your guide should become incorporated in the list of guides at the top of the thread.
