Ok, well here's the deal....
I originally slotted Distortion field with slows... and it was mighty nice. I found it extremely useful, especially solo. It is very potent.
But the original question of my post was what to slot it with, and now I am starting to think from your posts that I should stick with slows over holds then.
Because with slows, I find it a must keep. I mean Rain, Fireball, Firebreath, with the mob nice and tight for the whole show... what's not to like? What I thought was it would get better with the holds. I think the reaction I'm getting here is it's not a good idea.
Too bad the slow I/O's are kind of... blah. -
Let us know how that goes, because to be honest I haven't been playing my Beam/Poison guy for a while... he's just sort of sitting there until I figure it out a bit better... or have the patience to start another Beam/Traps(?) guy.
-
Quote:Yea it's hard to believe sometimes we get inherent Stamina now. My Beam/Poison dude would be heaving for air pre-inerhent stamina. Even 3 slotted... He's still out of shape.Oh...
Not to make a huge leap here...but remember how dark scrappers and tanks used to complain about endurance!
Poison...maybe the new dark armor!
I don't think I have it in me to make yet another Beam/* toon. I think this guy is fun on teams... but really just excels at single target and debuffing. If I get on a team with some endurance assistance, and some holds, he is really good. But otherwise... meh. -
I've been doing several builds for my Corruptor, and I'm stuck on Distortion Field.
It's easily one of my favourite defensive powers in the set. Right now I have it 6 slotted with Lockdowns. The advantage being the hold power, but I'm not sure if it actually helps with the hold part of the power, in the same way that the SLOW slots would help with Slowing NPC's.
Lockdown also has that great chance for +2 mag hold, as well as the set bonuses help me soft cap ranged def.
So what are you folks doing with slotting Distortion? -
Wait a second.... IF you go redside to get a patron power, and then go back to blueside, and THEN do a respec, do you lose your redside patron power?
If so, then that's out of the question for myself. I am always tweaking.... continually changing builds. (I have a lot of vet specs). I can't imagine going through that over and over..... I've been tempted for Scorp's shield with my Dual Pistols, but now I know.
I will say your build looks good... I took some 'fun' powers, and have pretty darn good ranged def, and decent AOE, but it's not min/maxied.
Call me crazy but I skipped Fighting pool (went leadership instead) and have been having fun with the new Flight Pool powers! -
I've been watching the Mid's forums.
I can't believe how fast you did this. Hat's off to you.
I think Mid's is saying sometime after the weekend for their update. -
Quote:No, I wasn't speaking of the animations. I mean the process is different with BR players.... as you know, you've got a whole process going on that usually means I perfer to have a -specific- shot up ready to go... not just any shot.I didn't understand the past about Hasten. Do you think it speeds up the animations? Because it doesn't. I already have an almost seamless attack chain and it wil be seamless when I get the 26 attack,
Anyway, Poison's debuffs are very potent. I found myself surviving and killing pink bosses in melee range because his def, res, tohit, dmg were nerfed.
My favourite combo is Disintegrate - then the shorter range one (has a good chance to spread), and then I go a certain direction depending on how many dudes I'm facing.
So I do have a specific sequence I prefer to use. I think in teams it is far less important than I am making it out to be. But do what feels good for your playstyle.
I also think Poison makes the set workable. I still find it one of the more difficult sets to play solo. It's kind of hard to 'work a crowd' with the set, if you know what I mean.
Otherwise, I think I'm in the minority in that I love the basic premise of the set, I love the look and sound of it. (I would still tweak poison though.) -
I'm still loving the great population that appears to be sticking it out on Exalted.
I've noticed a few threads about lack of 50's or what not on the server. While their isn't a ton of them, I note more people seem to be moving 50's over. I know I just spent some points on the transfer pack.
Anyway, I have been really enjoying leveling my Time Corruptor, Intergalaktic, in First Ward.
Unfortunately I notice VERY few people going there, and until someone was shouting for forming a First Ward team in Talos, I had no idea how to get to First Ward. (Admittedly, I never did the beta server thing).
So as much as I do wish more people would come to First Ward, I think it has a few issues:
- Hard to find. People don't seem to be aware of underground Imperium.
- Not a friendly zone. I love the concept, but it kind of reminds of when the hollows first came out.
- Missions: This is a big one. The mission archs are long, and very dialogue heavy. I've worked through many of them, and when I have had an opportunity to team, people get bored... I feel rushed... I can't read the dialogue, they can't see it.... it's just not team friendly IMHO.
Last night I noticed Devs doing missions there, and forming teams. I don't know if this was an effort to 1) pump up the zone activity, because I noticed it jumped a LOT as soon as a red name would spam for team forming. Or 2) testing some mission archs. Some do seem kind of rough.
Anyway, I bet this is a futile effort, because probably 90+ % of the -forum- probably knows about First Ward, but I'd like to know if you're spending any time in there, and what your experiences are there?
Are you teaming? Why/why not? Are the missions fun for you? Confusing? What do you think of the zone?
'Galaktic' is 27 so I imagine I'll be finished there shortly, but I really, really, really like the story archs, even if they are a bit dialogue heavy.
I also love the 'War of the Worlds' (Tom Cruise version) sounds blapping out across the zone. For some reason, the zone as a whole feels very..... 'District 9' to me. -
Quote:Agreed. An Immob AOE would be huge for me and BR. But even toxic breath is rather... meh. But yea, that would help the set a lot.
_Elektro_: Both sets are very single target focused and not great for solo'ing groups. Any other AoE-like effects from br/poison should be considered bonuses for the team. Unfortunately this means teaming is critical in the lower levels. It doesn't have to be a big team, however. All you really need is a meatshield to keep the attention off you while you lay down glorious destruction.
It would probably be good to find other means of mitigation... like temp powers or, as I mentioned above, in an Epic. Heck, just an immob AoE would do wonders as an opener. Set'm up and knock'm down.
I'm grouping as much as I can. I am trying not to be too judgmental til I get to the mid 30's. -
The trouble I'm having is getting a bit ganked on solo missions.
My Time guy can absolutely thump the same groups that my BR/Poison Cor will usually have serious difficultly with.
I did take the snipe. I just thought... forget it, I need something to really wack an LT before the fight starts (I MAY drop it once I get the Nuke).
The rifle shots take a while to 'happen'.... so I found Hasten a Must.
Typically, though I am finding you need to keep hitting with the rifle... Brrrzzzzp, Brrraaap, Brzzzzzt... like non-stop. So going back to toss more Weaken/Envenom on doesn't work so well because of the redraw and by then they're all over you....
I respecced with vetspec last night. I dropped the Poison cone, and ended up taking it later. It feels like... lethargic control, but until the single target hold, it's really all we've got.
I personally think Cutting Beam is a must. In a very single target set, cutting beam is a savior. If you're lucky enough to get:
-Disintegrate (on a hard target, that BETTER not DIE before he can 'spread'!)
-I follow up with Lancer Shot... if I get lucky enough to get that rolling...
-Then Cutting Beam.
I go back to the first two shots to mop up the LT/boss, etc. And repeat the process.
The set up of the set up is what bothers me about this combo. I feel like I use my secondary (poison) to set up with 2-3 potential 'set up' powers. Then I have to 'set up' Beam Rifle with a power that doesn't do much damage.... Disintegrate... ok, now I'm ready to actually do damage.
In big teams I have found I do one or the other, but not both. Either I'm largely de-buffing, or damage dealing a boss. But if I actually try my 'full process' above, the groups are largely dead by the time I'm ready to do something of my own.
On the heal, I'm not a big fan of it in this particular set. My old Ninja master mind loved it, but it's end heavy, and single target... and doesn't help you specifically... and in a set that is very 'busy' I just find it is a -so-so- power. I left it with one slot in case I'm in a small team and no 'real' healer is there. -
I have a beam/poison and I have to be honest, if it weren't for poison, I'd hate it.
IMHO, Poison actually -saves- Beam's substandard performance.
It's slow. It seems to take a long time to actually do anything. It also requires set up. It's VERY dependent on Disintegrate taking effect.
Disintegrate SHOULD be a lot more common than it is. This is one of the few sets that requires set up, and yet you find yourself setting up your set up with poison!
On a good team the power can concentrate on a nasty boss, but a good team is often taking down the majority of baddies while your multi-leveled set up is just getting going.
I personally don't like seeing a set that requires an attack to start a so-so chain reaction, that may or may not actually take hold.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of Beam. It's probably why I've played two of them (yes, two) into the 20's. -
I felt like I did a lot more damage with my DP blaster..... who is incarnate now. He was, IMHO, EASY to get to 50.
This guy is just... lethargic in damage right now. BUT I am going to give your advice a try (I mean the proc advice) and stick him out for a bit longer before deletion! -
Don't get me wrong, I would love to continue with this guy, but at 'corruptor' levels, his damage seems even more lethargic compared to what people around me are doing....
There's a lot of corruptors in Praetoria right now and many of them are mixing something with 'Time Manipulation' and so far Radiation blast at least appears to be the least damaging.
Fire Ball, fire breath, rain + Scourge = pretty darn nice.
Irradiate, electron haze, + Scourge = not so darn nice.
Single target action?
Bolt and Beam..? Not sure about the logic of taking a lethargic power and taking it because if you put special Proc in it, it's less lethargic.
Cosmic Burst? Could be awesome, but it comes with only 2 more powers left in the set to take, and there is mixed feedback on those powers (at least one of them) So is that one power enough to save the set?
I say this wihtout I/Oing anything yet as I typically just use garbage til 20ish, and then basic inventions, and nothing fancy til 30 something. -
I'm not sure I understand the goal of the thread?
If I ask for a name and it is available, I can get it assigned to my account here?
If so, I'm looking for:
Intergalactic
Galactic -
I just wanted to say I started back on Freedom with i21 release.....
But last night for the heck of it I started a new Time character on the VIP server.
I was shocked at the population. It's great! I had no idea it would be that happening. I didn't think many would go there because my understanding was that 'free' accounts couldn't go there... correct?
I guess I missed all the dev related content there but now that I've just started a new toon there, I was really glad to see all the players the server had attracted. This game is just SO much more fun with teams to me..... Great to see all you folks out there. -
I didn't get Intergalactic on this server.
I've always had it on Freedom. I thought it was 'rare' but I guess not. lol
I was saving it for a looong time for something like Time Manip. but it's gone! -
I gave up on him for now....
Rad might work better with something that has a quicker access to something with -red -def and whatever other debuffs.
Rad needs a tweak for sure. -
See I thought the -def, and the rather... close range nature of Rad would make a VERY good match up with Time.... because of the slows, and the way the heal works (to assist the melee people).
The damage just feels lethargic compared to fire. Aside from my 50+ DP blaster, all of my 'ranged' damage characters are fire based.... just right now, this character is feeling fairly underpowered.
+edit+
Just thinking about this....
The other problem with Time is you want to take just about everything... you just can't. And oddly enough one of the powers I'm thinking of dropping is Time's Juncture..... but it also feels very important as Rad is making me a near 'blapper' build.....
Time has a set where I think I'll have to make hard choices. The single character buff power is the only 'easy' power to pass up on. Some of them must be sacrificed though to get proper slotting on the Rad blast part. Hard decisions....
Right now at 13, Time's Juncture is just an End hog, and needs slotting. But at 40 something? It might be huge.
The other thought is as a Corruptor are you a team buffer? In other words how many of the Time buffs/de buffs should I feel obligated to take? -
I had one 'main' character in mind with the release of i21, a Rad blast/Time character.
As much as he 'looks' cool I am finding he seems really bad. BUT let me be honest he is very low... like 13. He's stuck in Praetoria, oddly enough begging for teams.... or plodding along at a VERY slow rate on his own.
Here's the thing I observe so far....
I -thought- matching time with Rad blast would be a good mix because I felt Time would be a set that you COULD get close in with your targets, and further slow them, and survive.
The thing is obviously I am not slotting my attacks with anything other than dropped DO's.
But that being said I'm getting a bad feeling about my damage. Time needs a fair amount of slotting..... It seems to anyway.
But is it fair to say Fire is a superior ranged ability?
I'm looking at it like this:
The first two powers are a wash.
Then: Irradiate < Fire Ball
Electron Haze < Fire Breath
And I can only guess Neutron bomb is not equal to Rain of Fire.
Otherwise I think Time is a 'neat' set but I'm starting to think it's better in a pure support role which I didn't think going in. It just seems to be somewhat intensive... busy, for a corruptor secondary. -
VIP Dead start. Woot!
Well at least I got a head start on downloading patches. Take that freebie players! -
Some may state my claim of being 'less desirable' for a team as a stalker is a non-issue, but I'm not too sure.
I'm on Freedom and I can find a team, almost any day within minutes as a scrapper. Some other AT's I can street clean for a half hour and not get a sniff....
As I mentioned, my Stalker is a very cool , thematic character for myself. I'm halfway to moving him blue side.
I had an old respec I used based on a (rare) forum post on MA/Ninjitsu and found it was worse than the one I had going! So I need to redo him... yet again!
Looking forward to getting him blue side so I can actually team with him! -
Quote:I'm the opposite. I love the first couple of months. The game feels busier than usual (and it is). Teaming is so much easier. You see new people getting their feet wet, and old players coming back. It's a good time.I loathe the first couple months after set proliferations. I find myself teaming with too many combos similar to my own.
I'm one of those odd folks who prefer to play the sets after a while when people get tired of it.
Nevertheless, I don't think anyone mentioned the few combos I had in mind. Which is a good thing I guess.
I don't mind seeing the same set with immense popularity.... I'll take that any day over a population drop off after people get 'bored' of the newness of an issue. -
I just realized in all honesty what I'll make:
One of everything new from the new power sets.
-then-
One of all the recently proliferated powers, in each archtype.
-then-
I'll go back to one of my 50's!
Seriously though... been waiting for Time.
(another bad time pun, I know) -
Clicky....?
I do recall feeling that when I played my Ninja mastermind with Poison. Played him from beta on.... and the 'clicky' part was just healing those stupid ninjas. -
Actually I'm taking a close look at Poison right now, and that does everything I can really see needing from a corruptor at least.
I wouldn't imagine there would be a redraw. The concept might be off the wall.... A poisonous alien with a big bad gun.... but the toys are there to make a very good Corruptor with Beam.
