Quote:I don't have any experience with RP'ing so I wasn't sure if it was actually more addictive. I wouldn't say that the people who play RP games or WoW are more likely to be addicts than others or suffer from some social deficiency. I was more curious if the activity itself was more likely to bring out someones addictive tendencies. Is WoW truly a more addictive game or does it just have a higher rate due to a larger population. If there is a higher sense of immersion is it easier to lose yourself and neglect RL?
I don't RP, have no interest in it, and I still don't think it's fair to lump all RPers into a 'more prone to addiction' category just because they perceivably have a greater degree of immersion into the game. There's more to addiction than doing something repeatedly or doing it at a certain level.
I didn't get the sense that they were saying games caused him to lose his GF. More that the subject as an individual isn't able to handle it and that there may be more people like him. It can't be denied that there are some people who become obsessed. I just got the sense that it was a cautionary tale more than anything else. As with anything you can't lump everyone in together. In the end it is a tool some will use to reach out to others and some will use to withdraw. I've used it for both.
As for the science, I don't think we can make any judgements by the article and it definitely does not have all sides of the story there. Just as the recent story of the couple getting engaged in CoH doesnt tell all the stories of romance gone wrong in CoH. If I wrote a story on how gaming can increase social activity and create lasting bonds, I most likely would not include information on gaming addicts to balance it out.
Even the best studies can be manipulated, but it is fact that some gaming companies hire consultants to advise on how to make their games more addictive. So whether we believe the science or not the intent is there is some cases. -
Grats Placta and all the badgers
I'm sorry I missed it! -

He is an RP'r and plays WoW. Am I wrong to say that there is a different level of immersion into the game? I do have some friends that play WoW who kind of take it to another level.
They are just using the subject as a worse case scenario, not as an example of the average gamer.
I can't say I disagree with anything stated in the article. It is good advice and it isn't stating that all gamers play to an unhealthy level or lack social interaction. -
I don't know to many people who get to hang out with a large number of their friends almost every night. As Force said most people would come home watch TV, maybe you would talk to a few on the phone one at a time. Trying to actually communicate at a bar or a party is almost impossible. The study does not take into account things like Ventrilo, Steam and FB.
All computer games are not equal either. There are people on FB who play farmville, vampire wars, mafia wars etc. Who consider themselves "gamers". I'm sure the gals on the lifetime website playing fashion wars think they are gamers. Are there more physically healthy hobbies/obsessions? ...Yes!
There are some people who get addicted, the true meaning of addiction. Those instances are the exception and not the rule. I would think that those people are predisposed to an addiction. Some people can handle alcohol, marijuana, gambling or have tried drugs without becoming addicted. -
Quote:I typed out a lengthy reply as well, but that pretty much sums it up nicely.
People will get their relative (relative being that it varies for everyone) fill o' social interaction through whatever medium is the most convenient and/or fulfilling to'em. Combine some tools for ease of socialization and entertainment through that same said medium, you'll find more dedicated gamers/players (addicts) versus casual gamers/players (hobbyists). -
CoP Has number one spot, but as it is a trial I don't know if you count it.
1. Mender Silos- I actually haven't done this with a full team yet, but love the TF concept.
2. LRSF- I wish it could be done without killing Swan as she is my favorite.
3. Apex- I would put Apex/TM, but TM lost some points with D11 being so annoying when we duo'd it. I'm still salty!
4. Twilight's Son- Short, but challenging.
5. STF
6. Tin Mage
7. Kahn
8. 'Cuda -
Quote:I'm sorry I missed who won this? and who were the lucky random people in BMT?

still.... for large scale events, if peeps can strip down to bare minimums, including darkening power colors, it'll help out visually over-all (not necessarily the lag). But at least you'll be able to tell what the hell's going on around you instead of all these stacked bright powers and auras around you....
Aren't there different kinds of lag too? -
Your CharacterÂ’s Alignment
Lawful Good
A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. She combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. She tells the truth, keeps her word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion.

shes since become an awesome mentor, and most importantly, friend. -
Quote:Steel, You can't GTFO someone with "Champion 4 Life" tattooed on their tushy
So go ahead tell me gtfo
Come on and be GREEN with me, before Kahlan has to cast Upheaval.
I am so jealous Dinah! (I knew I should have killed that bear!)

Champions United ( Open) Chatting, Fun, Friends, Teamage, etc.
BMT ( requires invite) Teamage, Badges, Monsters, TFs, Game Info.
Both channels are at capacity and popular. If you would like an invite when space is open please post your global for a mod in BMT. For Champions United you need to just keep trying if it is full.
Edit: Sorry I'm fresh out of awesome. -
Quote:Sorry if it was a little to GTFO.Might be a little too harsh there. Better to be friendly and assume that they really just don't know where they can look to find teamage than assume they might be unpleasant.
I really didn't intend that part for the OP, but more for the people complaining who clearly do know better.
Just sayin...If someone doesn't know where to look asking a question rather than suggesting huge game changes might be better place to start and would read less "The world revolves around me"
I'm having trouble finding a team lately, any tips? Is anyone else having trouble finding teams?
I have been wanting to run (insert event) anyone want to join me?
(Grumbles "Mannn..Force was meaner and he never gets scolded) -
Ummm, Thats what he said?
You seriously prefer cream to custard?!!? I heard there were people like you, but I didn't believe it!
Also!
I am adding get Kas to pvp with me. (With not against)
*I got to watch all movies except Bringing Up Baby. -
Quote:That was a happy dance day!
Finally just recently, I joined Rdlv after finding myself on a ton of TF's with them and realizing that I liked everyone that I teamed with from there. Mostly I blame Horus....Mostly. Just because I can. -
I can only speak from my experience, I do not have any trouble finding teams Red,Blue, or Gold on Champion. I hit SG Channels, G-Friends, BMT. ( I rarely PuG ) I have to try a little harder for a low level villian team. If there were only 10 people on the whole server, you only need 1 person to join you to have a team.
Are you willing to join in on what others are doing or do you want people to join you? Are you willing to bring what the team needs or only what you want to play? Do you pay attention when people ask for help? Are you a pleasant person to team with?
People who are more inclined to complain about not having a team , than to organize something of their own. Don't really fit in here anyway do they?
If you can't find a team on Champion , you probably aren't trying very hard or you aren't a person people want to hang out with. Be nice and try harder.
I would think not being able to find a team in Broadcast has more to do with the popularity of our Global channels. I don't even have broadcast in my tabs. Is there any server that has a huge villain population? My understanding is that Red side is less popular all around. If there is a Villiancentric server and thats your thing why wouldn't you go there? -

All of your contribution to a team is tied into your whole being-an-unstoppable-engine-of-destruction deal. So in a way, Fire/Darks are like Scrappers, except good
This is not going well, Jan 2nd and I have already caved. Kahlan can make a fire/dark instead. -
Ameliarate- Emp/Psi Defender. Changed her name to Amily once she dinged. I didn't like how the proper spelling of Ameliorate looked and the improper spelling nagged at me.
