I'd disagree bringing back the Rani would upset things so much. I mean she's basically a female Master that never 'caught on' as much since the show went into deep hibernation.
Really, the main problem with bringing back like Romana is that it would most likely mean the Doctor would 'settle down'. One of the big things in the new series is that he's just -lonely-, he thinks he's the absolute last time lord and he really regrets that, as much as things went wrong at the end he still had pride in Gallifrey and his civilization. Consider when the Master came back and he practically -begged- him to just drop everything and go off with him. Not to say they couldn't do that in the show but you know eventually even a Time Lord companion would have to say goodbye, at best just regenerating, at worst -dying- or being sealed off somewhere, etc so the show could continue on. -
Woooow, yeah. I kept looking at him thinking "Who is that, I know that is!" but couldn't place it. Damn <3 That's pretty neat

A Town Called Mercy wasn't bad. I'm not really thrilled with Whithouse's seeming obsession with hamfisted Doctor Parallels (though I will say this was WORLDS better than God Complex, this one at least didn't beat you over the head with it). But I dunno, the resolution didn't really sit right with me. Ok, guy blew himself up, I guess everything is cool now. Just.. eh. It wasn't bad, just didn't feel all that satisfying.
This season has thus far been pretty... well, not mediocre but I guess average? I'm just not that excited, I'm not getting any really good vibes from it so far. The first season was pretty damn solid, the second season really kind of divided between the Moffat episodes (and the doctor's wife) which were pretty brilliant and fun, and then the non-moffat/gaiman episodes which were kind of dull and uninteresting. I mean it could be like the previous seasons where there is something threading through each episode and we're not aware until the veil gets pulled from our eyes but the thing about that was that it wasn't the thread that made the previous episodes good, they were good in and of themselves and that added an extra piece of mystery and intrigue. I'm not sure what they might do that could make me just go eyes wide and "Wow those episodes were WAY more awesome than I thought". I mean at worst I can see these ending up as set pieces, like the Pirates last season (though the crowning moment of awesome for them in A Good Man Goes to War still didn't make the Curse of the Black Spot any better). None of the episodes this season have been bad though they just haven't been that good to me.
So I dunno, I'm kind of mixed so far. -
That would be why unlocking the Patron pools -gives- you a respec.

Fighting dark gods in graveyards.

I think Everquest 2 just last expansion opened up a dungeon creator. Not exactly the same and I haven't tested it's functionality, but it's similar.
-
Yeah, not demanding "WHERE IS IT? WHY IS IT NOT DONE?" But the 12th was announced as a date so, a lil heads up, even just a 'getting delayed' would probably be warranted.
-
So it's the 12th. Any word on this happening still?
-
Just saying it's possible. I mean I'm not saying they've got a new one lined up, but it wouldn't surprise me if when they start looking to cast a new doctor they start looking at actresses and not actors.
But we know Smith has said he doesn't want to step down yet, so we'll probably get at least this season out of him, who knows what next season will bring. -
I'm pretty sure the 12th doctor is going to be the first female regeneration. They've dropped enough hints about it happening with Timelords.

Actually, some questions for unrevealed stuff:
Who is the guy in the navy suit by Positron? He was added sometime this past issue but has no purpose as of now.
Also another NPC behind the Atlas Park Auction house, Representative something or other? -
"So what are your super powers?"
"Well I'm a robot"
".....and?" -
I still disagree with outright banning, even if it's "only the 72 hour variety". As many actual cases that warranted it, it seems just as often the mods are shooting from the hip and then sorting it out later and that's pretty crap. Someone shouldn't have to sit out 3 days because a mod was wrong.

It's not really a matter of grey vs black. I don't want solomon to be an anti hero or something or even have some kind of sympathy, I'm fine with him being a greedy merchant/space pirate.
But the show kind of already has a -glut- of one off villains that are exactly like him. It's not that that I mind the type, it's that I mind that it's just plain lazy writing. Villain shows up, it's a little vague at first, quickly confirms he's a villain, he's given chances to redeem himself or turn the other cheek, never does, dies horribly for his hubris, everyone celebrates that the Doctor stopped the bad guy and saved the day. Lather, rinse, repeat, ad nauseum. I could be describing any number of episodes honestly.
I mean that was just my problem with this episode, it's just a standard retread of any number of prior Who episodes. Not that everything needs to be original and new, but don't take the absolute easiest ways out when writing it. There have been one off villains that have been -great-, I do like the occasional mustache twirler, my issue isn't specifically with that, it's just how it was handled. You can do that kind of character and have fun with it, this wasn't that though.
Heck, recent example. House. House was a great mustache twirler. Absolutely evil. Tricked Time Lords, killed them, ate their Tardises, totally unrepentant about it, totally tried to murder the Doctor and his companions. About as one dimensional as Solomon but so much more well done, he's a cool villain and you actually cheer when he dies. That was a good villain but on the most basic level, about the same as Solomon. -
From what I've seen the GW mods are kind of hardasses. They just flip out bans and suspensions rather than bothering with warnings.
-
Potentially. We'll see.
Quote:He gave the guy a chance to save himself. Multiple chances to save himself. He gave him every opportunity to walk away. That was not murder, it was assisted suicide.
That also doesn't take into account the fact that the Doctor told him, "This is what they are tracking." such that he could conceivably jettison the locator beacon and save himself. He didn't. As far as I'm concerned, the Doc's hands are clean.
I dunno like I said, to me, it seemed more like a 10th doctor moment than an 11th. 11 has his 'darker side' but it usually takes a lot of pushing (like threatening his loved ones). As I said though, I just think the whole villain bit was poorly done, the guy is just a mustache twirler we're supposed to not feel bad for when he dies because he was a bad guy. It's basically grade school villainy. -
Agent Whitefox, my namesake. An ill/rad controller, I just love him to pieces. It's very safe, it's fun, and I feel like I can just leverage a -lot- of options, I find myself hard pressed to ever run out of tricks in the middle of a fight, whether it's a solo play beat down with phantom army and my debuffs or it's locking down spawns with my AoE holds and Spooky or boosting allies with accelerated metabolism and my heal. It's just an extremely flexible character with a lot of power and support strategy.
And he's my most traditional 'wizard' type character, I've always liked magic type characters and he's the purest 'caster' to me. -
That's pretty awesome, didn't know that could happen

it was a decent episode, though felt a bit like just running the gears. The set up was good, I liked the ark idea and the character mix was good albeit a little too "just randomly bringing you, except you're the exact perfect person we need". Nefertiti at least was just tagging along but Riddel and their Dad was a little too convenient with the needing a big game hunter and a 'shared gene thread' (or whatever) to pilot the ship. I did like the character interaction though, Riddel -was- good but I think how he was included was just a bit weak.
The villain was just too weak too. I mean for gods sake he may as well have had a mustache to twirl. Just completely uncreative. Which is a shame, I liked his style, but he was just a one off one dimensional villain.
There was some potential here too. They had a great smoking gun in the vid log that described how all species were thriving -except one-. That could've easily been the Silurians. Rather than have Solomon mass murdering them he could've simply come upon a ghost ship, Amy and the others even ponder if there was a plague that wiped them out. Instead it's just a throwaway line that means nothing.
The end was a bit shocking too. That's something I'd expect out of the 10th doctor, it just seemed a bit vindictive. I mean, yes, he deserved it. But the Doctor just so rarely openly murders someone (that's neither Cyberman nor Dalek) >> Was also a bit disappointed that Solomon's ship had no defensive systems, you'd think as a pirate he might have had something. It would've been a nice twist if, hey, villain got away but the day was still saved. But oh well.
So, overall a decent episode. I liked it better than Asylum but it still felt lacking, like they were just running through the motions. Some things were utterly too convenient and the villain completely falls flat. -
Probably not going to help much, but as kind of a heads up for folks maybe going through events they haven't played through yet.
In the mission 'Question Manticore' in the Mender Silos Taskforce, as soon as you start the mission you'll be hit with a prompt
"Your have lost connection to the server. Would you like to return to the title screen? Yes No"
Click yes and.. obviously you go to the title screen! Whereupon the game crashed and asked me to send in a bug report, which then froze and I closed the game.
Jumped right back in, no problem logging in, was still in the TF. I re-entered the mission and... boom, again, I get the prompt. So I hit no and the mission continued on as normal.
Soo, yah. Weird little bugged prompt. Just hit no to skip it. -
Yeah juuust the most basic definition of 'likes anthro critters' folks, not trying to turn this into a discussion of mincing definitions/stereotypes/horror stories :3
Pretty much all my in-game fur characters are just for fun. -
Well the way they spoke at the coffeetalk, anyone that's VIP now -should- remain VIP for the duration but they weren't 100% certain.
-
Oh I can answer that one. In the I23 beta people pretty much universally agreed that it was more appropriate that Ms. Lib take over the task force instead of Brawler and it happened the devs agreed. Nothing really more than that. They just never got around to changing that tip.
-
Positron has said for the most part that anything beyond I24's established canon is mostly speculative. Basically, lots of stuff was not 'set in stone' until they actually started to work on it. So even if somehow the game does make a return the answers for stuff that could have happened in the future aren't necessarily canon, just what the devs -right now- think they would have done.
-
Yeah, I could see their memory sort of 'resettling' so instead of explicitly the Doctor being their archnemesis they just fit 'timelord' in the space where History says they were stopped.
It does just feel too simple and easy a fix and probably something a future writer is just going to discard down the line. But eh.
