Quote:It's not government OWNED as such, but it is government supported.Oh wait, the BBC is government owned? I was under the impression it was a private entity like Fox or ABC. Where I come from government owned stations only focus on educative stuff (arts/politics/news) not on fiction.
In the UK, to own a television, you must purchase a "Television Licence" (that's per household, not per person) this licence is paid yearly, think of it as a sort of mandatory subscription fee.
This money goes into running and supporting the entirety of the BBC, everything from Radio, to News, to Dramas and to Doctor Who. It also means that in the UK BBC channels have no advertising whatsoever.
This all stretches back to when TV was new and the BBC was the only TV channel. The government felt we needed out own channel that would "Inform, Educate and Entertain" or something like that. And they didn't want adverts.

Quote:You'll always get regeneration jitters.I got to say I'm worried about that doctor (darn am a noob and already whining about who will be the doctor next) seen quite a few shots of him around the web and he looks too emo...
Steven Moffet is the new lead writer though and he did some of the best episodes of new Series. Wait until "The Lonely Child" and you'll feel much better -
Quote:Massive spoilers for the newbies, Avoid!I feel again obligated to post this video.
Because the Daleks are just this cool.

Quote:You'd think wouldn't you?
Also wanted to ask, what's that about BBC hating Dr Who? Why would any suit hate a show that makes them money?
I really can't think of a suitable reason, only that from the '80's onward, every Controller and/or Director General of the BBC wanted to show dead.
Fortunitly now the BBC seems to have thrown money at the new Doctor Who which means whoever is in charge either likes the show or is at least indifferent and just likes the viewing figures -
I have 3 Gigs of Ram.
Quote:What operating system are you using and is it 32 or 64 bit?
Quote:How much memory and what clock speed is your graphics card running at?
Core clock: 650 MHz
Shader clock: 1625 MHz
Memory clock: 900 MHz (1800 MHz data rate)
Memory interface: 256-bit
Total available graphics memory: 1791 MB
Dedicated video memory: 512 MB
Quote:What games are you looking to play - apart from CoH that is?
Quote:What resolution do you intend playing at? - This will affect whether the graphics card will be adequate.
Quote:We'll need to know the model of the motherboard you've got - some intel processors may not be compatible with it.
Hope this all helps. -
Quote:The best bit is, they had to do entire episodes in one take in those days, look for the spot where Ian breaks his sword and has to quickly improvise with another prop
It's one of the rare pure historical episodes, a style of story that was phased out over the early seasons, but it's brilliant stuff. The supporting cast has such a poetic flow to their acting, it's really good! -
Hello my fellow forumites, every now and then my computer needs a bit of an upgrade and I think now is the time to do it.
Specifically my processor, it's currently an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, I think it could do with a little power upgrade given that a lot of new games are coming out, so I was wondering what your suggestions might be.
As for graphics cards, I have a GeForce 9600 GT, I don't think this needs upgrading just yet but if you lot think it does then suggestions on that would be nice. Again, only if needed.
Cheers -
Part of a caseless Dalek was seen in the very first serial featuring them waaaaaay back in the 60s.
Glimpses and fleeting glances show up all throughout Doctor Who history, however it wasn't until 2005 when they really start to show up properly.
Quote:Others haven't been suggesting this because you already mentioned it, but Genesis of the Daleks is one of the finest Doctor Who stories out there. So I am not sure if I want to watch the full of Dr Who but I still would like to see the essentials. Things like the Dalek origin story (that I already know happen in Genesis of the Dalek) and other foes I may see in the length of this show.
Just remember when watching the old series, it's old, it had a shoestring budget and the top bods at the BBC ****ing hated it.
So, any time you see a dodgy special effect remember, it's a miracle it was ever made at all -
Oh boy, compare and contrast threads are my favourite!

I have a bunch of Brainstorm Salvage and was wondering what the best course of action would be to make use of them.
Remember, I'm just talking about how much they'll sell for, not usefulness.
Random Rare salvage costs 20 and Rare Arcane Salvage costs 40.
We all know Arcane sells for more than tech, but I'm wondering if double the price to get all Arcane, rather than a mix of the two is worth it, after all, it's not like all Tech is worthless.
Just asking you what you think -
I'm going to try and get a few levels on some lowbies, I'd like to get at least a few more into the 20's.

mmorpg.com's forums are populated with "teh hardcorez" players.
Basically, if it doesn't take you 5 year to reach the level cap, require hours upon hours of grinding and have at least one 15 hour raid it's crap in their eyes. -
Greetings Arbiter Kim! Don't drink the water!

Glad you've had a good time, I'd tell you to ignore the jerks but you already seem to have that well in hand (we don't like the jerks either )
The forums are an absolute treasure chest of information by the way, so if you have a question, don't be afraid to ask.
I can also recommend Paragon Wiki for any information you may need. -
I'd say I'm "average" with a few hardcore leanings.
I would be hardcore, getting into IO sets and stuff (I already make good use of generic IOs) but for the price... and I'm not hardcore enough the grind for the monies to get any major sets -
I believe the word used was "gem".
Anyway, I believe the Devs specifically wanted Ice to remain looking like Ice, rather than gemstones.
They were nice enough to give us the crystal theme with Stone though (which make more sense than Ice anyway). -
Quote:They did scale very briefly after a patch on live, then it got changed back almost right away.I don't remember them ever scaling on Live or in Beta. I do remember that Statesman once said that they were supposed to scale, but due to a bug in the code they never did and it turned out more fun that way anywho so they left it in.
Hopefully the same will happen again. -
I'm not having a go at you, and wish you the very best... but why would you advertise a French podcast on the English boards?
Surely the French boards would get you more listeners?
Anyway, good luck with your endeavour! -

Quote:Is there some sort of standard generic form you people fill in when quitting the game.yeah.
I hate it. The super side kicking sucks and I'm not talking about PLing I mean in general. I played on a team of various levels and though I was sk'd 2 levels higher and the person whose mish it was was set at a higher level I got less xp than when soloing. Of course just finding a team now that i16 has come to fruition is impossible especially when you're a higher level. The servers have been practically dead too, what with all of the people leaving, so far 8 of my regular COH friends have already left. Not a big fan of i16. This will be my last month of gameplay, COH really screwed the pooch on this one.
Oh and I realize the whiny fanbois will post in droves in response to anyone who doesn't like or has anything bad to say about i16--don't bother I'm not even interested enough in COX anymore to read a response to my post.
Good luck to all of you--I hope the minute thrill of having a pink Jack Frost and blue Fulcrum Shift was worth the downside of massive amounts of people leaving the game!
Every issue it's the same, X feature ruined my life, massive amounts of players quit (I have no proof, but I KNOW these things), I'm quitting yadda yadda yadda.
I'll never quite understand the compulsion to not only quit a game but pretend that loads of other people are also quitting with you. It's kind of sad really.
Maybe it's to actually make us give a damn. -
We've been a bit light on story content for a while... I think we need new arcs across all levels for both sides.
Not that what we've gotten hasn't been brilliant, it has... but shiney things can only keep people interested for so long, we need actual story content! -
Quote:I'd support that. 1 minute downtime at your current location would be better than say, crossing two zones to get to a trainer or something. Keep the trainer switching for people near them, but if I'm way out in the Hive or in the middle of a TF or something, a 1 minute cool down wouldn't be so bad.The only way I would be ok with build switching without visiting an NPC would be:
- Set Player Health 1
- Set Player Max Regeneration 0, duration 60 seconds.
- Set Player Max Endurance 0, duration 60 seconds.
- Set all powers state to Initial Recharge.
- Wipe all Buffs/Debuff on character.
In other words, we do NOT want players to be able to situationally change power selections.
