Alright, thanks to Shoe for linking to the guide. A tad old, but the advice still seems sound enough.
Heres the mk...4, I think now?

Yeah, I tried both a PB and a WS before, who later got retconned and deleted. This gal I was aiming for a more human build...but hell, I can warp the concept to fit the forms in fairly easily.
Rush's build looks fairly sturdy...I just despise running out of end with a rather furious hatred. I am, I can safely say, fairly carp at any slightly off the wall slotting (3 damage, 2 acc, 1 end for most attacks)
The problems, again, come when I try triforming: Not enough damn slots!
If Frankenslotting (again something I've never tried) is fairly cheap, might be useful to know how all that works.
Thanks again for the help so far, guys. -
Quote:Some Blasters DO get pseudo-pets. Like the elec blast sentinel, iirc.i might be alone in this but my way of thinking that the name BLASTER would imply a character who uses almost strictly ranged attacks yet the secondary set puts you right in enemies faces. that seems horribly wrong to me. other than that crappy hold you get most of your secondary powers offer half ***** attempts to keep enemies at ranged distance. you dont see the hunter in wow having this problem why? because he has a pet to keep his enemies at ranged distance. now im not saying give the blaster a pet, but the class needs something to help keep it shooting for longer than 3 seconds. i like the class, but if i wanted to melee id just play all the other melee classes and i have they are jsut fine. the other ranged characters have ways to keep enemies stuck at ranged and not just 1 enemy at a time. ive tried uber buffing my hold so i can try and lock down a group and it doesnt work. ive tried single pulling and that works sometimes, but not nearly often enough for it to be a viable strategy. a distraction ability or a ranged taunt would fit in perfectly with the game and all the secondary blaster sets should have one or at least something that keeps me shotting and not punching all the damn time. i hope im not alone in this.
Also, what other people have said, there ARE options that are based on purely range, but Blasters are ALL about damage. Damage IS your mitigation, in that regard.
And you need to stop thinking of this game in terms of WoW. Whole different system, whole different playstyle. Period. -
Quote:When your rolling with 3+ Crab spiders, then you know how good it feels to be badI have to admit, with my Archery/Devices blaster, laying down trip mines, loosing Rain of Arrows from around the corner, and waiting for the survivors to blow themselves up,winning the bout without ever coming into line of sight of an opponent, feels like pretty dirty fighting to me.

Good, I couldn't find Mod 08 on the Dev Digest, else I woulda done it myself.

There was a muted sound from down the alley. It wasn't really a breath, it was more like the cesation of breath coupled with a gasp, and the sound of something painful happening all at once.
A body slumped out, a lighter blur in the early morning Mercy mist. Someone stepped over the corpse of the Longbow Sergeant, a long, thin, blade like object vanishing.
His name was Zech. That was what people called him. At least, what they called him to his face, if they wanted to live.
It had been a long time coming. Nearly twelve years, in fact. But now he was out of the gutter, and making a mark.
Zech wasn't particularly tall or solidly built, but he had a wiry, whiplash strength about him. He nearly always wore a tattererd jacket and long trousers, face obscured by a bandana, bandit-mask and mirrored aviators. Both arms were heavily tatooed, and he had heavily wrapped wrists and hands, martial art style.
"Nice, tough guy," somebody sneered, shapes looming in the mist.
Zech didn't move, but his eyes shifted behind his glasses, watching as the trio of Arachnos soldiers encircled him. Wolf Spiders. Grunts, either ending or just coming on patrol shift. Unlucky.
"So, you can beat up on the candy-cane wussbows. Aww, ain't you the big tough villain, huh?" the apparent leader leered, as his squadies chuckled along.
"No."
"Oh? You giving me lip, ya little punk?"
"Giving you this."
Zech erupted, spines exploding in a cloud of flying, razor edge and rock solid cartilege. The first two soldiers were skewered instantly, but the leader was slightly faster and not just verbally. He had had the sense to dive back, and now brought up his machine pistol.
The shot echoed through the mist, a gaggle of snakes a few streets away peering around blearily.
Zech looked up, the mask creasing slightly as he grinned, the blood oozing slugishly from the hole in his shoulder.
"Aww...whats the matter, soldier boy? Your pea-shooter not working, now?"
The soldier paled, his scream lost in the mist as Zech advanced, the long spine sliding from his wrist to rest against the back of his hand with a lazy, silken sound. -
....
I think I blew a cerebral coil trying to get my head around that one.
Banes are fine as they are, really...slightly nastier and more shooty stalkers, with, y'know, armour. And big hitting sticks. They don't need elude. -

'suck' in this context meaning I find them tedious to play and painfully inferior to VEATs using the Fun/Not Fun Meter.
VEATs, especially in pairs or more, do feel so...well...Epic? -
Here's the PB build, see if I'm making any major screw ups.

How about everyone just drops it? Since Mod 08 will probably drop in and lock this thread up anyway? Then you will have the Official voice saying that no, mez is not going to change.
Seriously. Raging and throwing the toys outta the pram is doing nothing, except make everyone look bad, m'kay? -
Now, I'm not saying 'OMG HEATs suck'. A lot of people seem to swear by Tri-form Warshades, and a number of people obviously enjoy playing them.
This is more a question to see if I'm doing anything majorly 'wrong', or wether they get a whole new meaning of 'awesome' at a certain specific point.
Tried both PB and WS to around 20s, got a lil' PB at 19 right now. Just...I don't know what it is. The endurance costs dont seem to help but, then again, no Stamina yet. The damage taken seems extreme, but then this is on DOs.
Anyone else feel burnout come along very quickly on PBs and/or WSs? -
5 more costume slots.

But to set the tables straight, yes, I too would like to see the flamethrower set everything on the death end of my gun on fire... I mean it's a flamethrower.
(Even if the power was left unchanged the animation for lighting the ground on fire in a patch, I would think, would be like the arsonists molotov or some sort of incendiary grenade.)
-but how often have the devs just flatout removed a power? I'm not even totally sure it would be possible to do, I mean would that just force the entire population of AR's to respec on the spot? slotting would be impossible if it wasnt done that way.
*yes, I have seen flamethrowers in action, both in the movies, and at military exhibitions.*
Yeah, I understand the problem of damn late/damn early posting, and what it can make you sound like. Too well ^^;
But yeah, it probably would cause a headache or two, but if it was an overall buff, would people be that pissed?
Heh, silly me, some people naturally would be. Fact: You can't please everyone. -
Aha, I stand corrected. Good to know =] Thanks for that, you two.
I find it amusing that it 'frees you' from KB effects, though. Technically impossible. Still, I'll be fore-armed when fighting Sigil and peeps like her in future. -
Quote:....So let me get this straight. You believe it would somehow be thematic, if when firing a flamethrower for 4 seconds into a group of enemies, that things caught on fire, and that there was no chance you could do this without setting anything on fire at all?
See, as far as I can gather, there are two things that flamethrowers do.
Spew flames that make enemies very hot (they must be they seem to be in pain) or
Spew illusory flames which buys you time to toss a tiny incendiary wherever you feel.
You ever SEEN a flamethrower work?
You fire it. Literally. Things burn. The ground burns, trees burn, people burn, hell walls burn.
Combining that into one would be MUCH better than the current, end-nomming creature we have atm. -
Quote:Break Frees one hole is KB. Sadly. As a slight aside my fire brute has zero immobilization protection (no CJ, no Burn).
Break Free covers his needs (also nifty for when facing Fake Nems etc with large Mag knockback). He has 3 points from a kinetic crash set.
He never took any power for immob protection all the way from 1 to 50, and is probably my top played redside 50 right now.
Trust me, I know this from playing my Crab Spider on a team in Mako's Patron arc. Y'know that room, the one FILLED with tornado's? With wide area KB/KU?
Man, the team learned some colourful language that day...
There are other examples, and mostly on melee characters, oddly enough. My DB/DA Brute, fighting Sigil with her stupid mag energy melee attacks. And more recently a Ballista. My SoAs all had problems, until they got the KB res slot.
See, it's not just Squishies who have problems. But hey, maybe most players don't whine about it so much, and just get on with the game? -
Quote:Sniper is great. Some wonderful BOOMHeadshot momentsThey recently made a change to Midnight Grasp in Dark Melee so the DoT was more up front, so I do wonder why Flamethrower didn't get a similar look during the recent pass on it.
Looking at all the Blaster AOEs, Flamethrower is quite heavy damage for a non-nuke AOE, so that seems to be the balance point now: this is the same for DoT powers like Ball Lightning and some from Fire Blast (with the added benefit of Fire doing extra damage to make up for not having other mitigation).
But seven seconds is really too long. I probably would not mind a reduction in overall damage if it meant more up front damage and a quicker DoT. I'll keep using Flamethrow from time to time no matter what, but it's going to be mostly ignored while I focus more on Buckshot and M80 for my routine AOE damage.
Actually, this is making me wonder if I should dump Flamethrower for Sniper Rifle. Sure, they're both situational, but I've had plenty of times where I wanted a good start to a fight with big ST damage, and I don't miss the aoe from Flamethrower very often. I usually toss it in while something I'd rather be using is recharging (generally during a boss fight). Maybe I'll miss Flamethrower more than I think, but I don't think so.
I'll still want Incinerate for AV fights.
And it does deliver on the damage front, most definitely.
-
Quote:Nope. They go by the name of '3+ Team of Crab Spiders'.Dont we already have GREATS? Think they're called scrappers or something along those lines . . . . . .

They come with team buffs in numbers, and the volley of debuff grenades shall make the foe weep 'So help us God, we are doomed!' And we shall laugh, and crush them beneath our armoured boots!

I'm still a fan of MA's original attacks.
I am, however, a raging fan of the new SS attacks. I adore the new Jab and Punch attacks. Punch, lets be honest, was never a proper punch. Yet not we get the option. Jab-Punch combo now looks incredibly slick. Haymaker I'm not so keen on, as it isn't quite different enough, and the old one did have a wonderful 'Chew on THIS!' quality to it.
Knockout blows alternate is very nice, but the one that sold it for me was Ground Punch. Oh Gawwwd that move is beautiful! Ceasar, my troll SS/WP Brute, makes use of that every time it recharges. Its just such a wonderful bit of animation.
I can only drool at the thought of what other alternates we may get in future.
BaBs: He da man -
People seem to forget that melee sets DO have holes in them anyway.
Fire, dark, hell SoA's have a freaking huge KB hole which is actually a huge problem at times. Ninjitsu on stalkers has a KB hole too, the list goes on.
Hell, Tanker sets still have the mez holes, especially Fire.
And you know why?
Because it gets made up for in other areas. The same as other ATs get it made up in other areas for having no mez shields. You change that, you effectively break the game. Because that would mean a whole game re-balance. If it was CoX 2, then by all means do so. Until that happens, I don't see that happening. -
