  1. So, what's next? What's going to be THIS month's challenge?

    * Draw signature heroes & villains as Costumed Octopi?

    * A massive "Battle Royal" - rendered using only carved pumpkins?

    * Re-imagine your favorite hero's origin story as an Interpretive Dance Performance?

..well, TA - whacha got up yer sleeve for us this time?
  2. Congrats to Projectionist and Juggertha!

(and YAY me, I got Three Votes! and some honorable mentions! Woo-HOO!)

As soon as the FArt wars is over/ or i get eliminated and i have some time to give this. i'm totally down for that. and i'm willing to subject any of my heroes/villains to a good beat down. provided that they don't get beaten in 5 panels or less.

  5. Yeah - I doubt we're really looking at the extinction of "Gold Farmers" anytime soon. But there's some interesting points being made.

Came across this article this morning and thought some of you might enjoy these.

    Marvel Universe

    DC Universe

    Enjoy!

    [/ QUOTE ]
I especially like the Battlestar Galactica "Last Supper"-style image. That and the "DC Gallery" image of Wildstorm 's "The Authority ".

So to get easy merits I solo Task Forces a couple times a week. What I do is start the TF with my roommates and my accounts(4 total), then log off everyone except MunkiLord(DM/SR). When I get to the last mission I log them all back in and have the extras doorsit for the merits.

I typically solo either Synapse or Citadel as they seem to be the easiest. With that character Positron is difficult for me even when the TF is just set for two people. I did Sister Psyche once but the Freakshow liked to run a lot and it pissed me off. The damn Paragon Protectors in the Manticore TF annoyed me as well. I haven't attempted to solo Numina yet, but I doubt it would be too difficult. Just annoying because of the zone hopping.

So what Task Forces do you prefer to solo, and why?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow - I didn't even know solo-ing a Task Force was possible! Hmmm, I might have to try that.

So, your saying either the "Synapse" or the "Citadel" TF would be the easiest to handle solo? (I mean, for a first time TF-solo-er)

Where is this "Screenshots & Fanart" section, and is the contest similar to the avatar wars, where the least amount of effort/skill win? ;]

    [/ QUOTE ]

    - as to WHERE - I did give a link to the thread in my post above, but:

Main Index / For Fun! / Screenshots and Fan art

then the thread titled "June Fan Art Battle - VOTE!"

    Here's the direct link again

    - as to the "least amount of effort wins" comment - No, that does not appear to be the case in this contest

You might want to go check out the previous month's battles:

February Fan Art Battle - VOTE!
March Fan Art Battle - VOTE!
April Fan Art Battle - VOTE!
May Fan Art Battle - VOTE!

I liked Aprosaath's art/idea better but the style didn't make me think movie it made me think late '70s young adult fiction. I could see S.E. Hinton writting that story.

Hey, wow! I see what you mean! That's ..actually kinda cool! Thanks!
  12. Hello from the "Screenshots & Fanart" section of the boards!

Its time for the Voting in the CoH/CoV 2009 "Fan Art Wars" battle! Come on down to the "June Fan Art Battle - VOTE! " thread, have a look at the entries - and pick your favorite one!

ANYONE on the CoH/CoV boards can vote! Spread the word!
  13. Its tough, cuz - you know that no matter what you do, somebody's libel to be unhappy. Its inevitable.

I tend to think two things are paramount - whatever way you choose to do it:

#1) Clarity - you have to state things clearly, right up front. And that includes whether something is a "Rule" or just a "Guideline", or things like "Not following this rule results in disqualification." If its not stated clearly, its going to be problematic to "enforce".

This can become tricky if there's "unwritten" rules that some feel are common knowledge and others don't.

#2) Consistency - its important to try to be consistent in how you're running it. If you play it strict sometimes and loosie-goosie other times - it can confuse and enrage people.

All that said - it is a "friendly competition" - there aint no money involved - but there is time involved, and effort. We do care about the outcome.

..of course, if there are NO boundaries - then we'll have ANARCHY! So, I say some boundaries are good.
  14. This month, my vote goes to Projectionist's Entry. I think he did a good job of making it look like a real movie poster - as well as a movie I'd go to see. (and, again, Lucy Lawless as Ghost Widow! )

Very close behind, tho, were Lousy_Day's & Tacky_Tricky's teaser posters. And Juggertha gets special mention for thinking "outside the box".
  15. So, um, anybody know where T.A. is? (hope everything's okay )

Here is my entry: The City

I realize I probably broke the rules in the second post, but the casting was half the fun of making this picture. I was also looking forward to seeing who others imagined in various roles, but alas. Anyway, if I'm disqualified so be it, no hard feelings.

Lucy Lawless as Ghost Widow! That's pure GENIUS!

Edit: (had a bit of a family emergency just there at the last)

Its based on an idea I read some time ago in one of the other board sections.

EDIT 2: I was in such a hurry, that I posted it to the "Scraps" folder on my Deviant art. I just uploaded it again (with a modified title) to a better category, so it'll show up in my "newest" gallery. Its exactly the same, only changed the title so DA would let me put it in.

  21. Yeah, Drunken_Avenger - you are rather too late to vote in the May battle - but PLEASE do keep checking back here for the June (and beyond) battles!

The June battle may just be the toughest one, yet! And tell all your friends: ANYbody on the COH/V forums is eligible to vote at the end of each month! The more, the merrier!

best thing i could make was this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Right. All we needed was another Thor's Assassin piece.

Don't you guys ever draw somene else ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

HA heheh HA! HA! heheheh HA! (tears of laughter)

But seriously - it takes some time, effort, and [u]patience[u].

Sure, for some it takes less than others, but NOBODY is born automatically über-skilled - even Leonardo had to spend some time practicing and was apprenticed to Verrocchio.

I had a friend who said he really wanted to draw manga, so he bought this book on beginning manga drawing. LESS than a week later, he'd given up trying "I got tired of drawing circles, circles, and more circles.." He never got past the first chapter. His desire to draw was just not sufficient enough to carry him through the work required to get there.

Unless you are severely handicapped, pretty much anybody can learn to "do art" - but it takes time, effort, patience - and, I guess, desire.

Nice! and bloody fast, too! Yer makin' EVERYbody look like a slacker!

But really, nicely done "teaser" poster! Lovely blue glow, and nice texture!
  24. (okay - not really getting where the police-shake-down thing is coming from )

In case anybody else finds this useful - I found this info on Movie Poster Sizes (so I could get the proportions correct):

    http://www.practical-home-theater-gu...ter-sizes.html

Scroll down to "Major U.S. Movie Poster Sizes"

"The most common among Poster Sizes: The One-Sheet Movie Poster

One-Sheet (27" x 40"): One-sheets are the most popular among movie poster sizes and represent the standard movie poster size used in U.S. movie theaters.

Up to 1983, one-sheets measured approximately 27x41 inches in size. However, re-prints of pre-1983 originals will normally measure anything between 39.5 inches up to 40.5 inches in height, by 27 inches in width.

After 1983, we started to see a shift in the one-sheet movie poster size with the height being reduced to 40 inches rather than the original 41 inches used previously. However, almost all original one-sheets printed after 1989 are 40 inches, with poster sizes measuring 39.5 inches and 41 inches being the exception. Reprints of post 1989 posters would normally come in the same size of the original poster size, making it difficult especially for the untrained eye, to identify an original from a reprint."
  25. Congratulations Projectionist!! Well done!

and, as others have said, congrats to everyone for great pieces in May!

I can tell June is going to be a Battle!
