  1. Got a slight twist on the "We're sorry, but we are unable to accept your order at this time" problem...

I was checking out the booster packs, and decided to pick up Magic and Superscience. The Magic booster went through without a hitch, but I got the above error when I tried to buy the Science pack immediately after (no "Add to Cart" feature? *blink*). I logged out of NCSoft and into the game to confirm the Magic purchase (it's good) and to see if the Science purchase went through in spite of the error msg (it's not good).

Logged back into the NCSoft site, tried again, same error. Checked NoScript, but ncsoft.com was already whitelisted.

You can set this up directly under Options->Keymapping->Team as well. You'll still have to press 2 buttons to SB each person, but I found it more flexible than the file loading binds.

I also had the following bind, for when I first joined a team:
"/bind b team If you don't want speed boost, let me know. If you do want it, SHUT UP, you'll get it!"

...I didn't mind buffing people, but I grew to hate hearing "SB please." And I really, really got tired of people expounding on the wonders of it.

    I need to vent!

Sounds like you got the worst of two worlds in one player, BrandX - one who wasn't too team-conscious, and who was burnt out on SB requests. The SB spam doesn't have to come from your team, but if you get a few teams that are all "SB plz" and "SB NOW," it's hard not to set your teeth on edge with any request for any power, no matter how reasonable it is. By the way:

So I explained what SB did.
Don't do that. I'll bet she's heard that lecture before. I suspect most Kins hear it, even the ones who spam SB...

Also sounds like she didn't know the STF very well, and was trying to use Kin tactics that work for most content. IME, a well-placed FS ends most non-AV fights before SB becomes relevant, and for AVs with a high regeneration, taking the time to SB mid-battle can actually extend the duration of a fight. Maybe she was stuck in that mode and wasn't adapting too well to the STF. I can't fault her much for that, as it can be tough to adapt on the fly - it requires a fair amount of tactical awareness.

Anyway, just playing devil's advocate. I probably wouldn't have kicked her, but only because I couldn't replace her (as Biowraith pointed out). I might have called her bluff, though, and said "ID will help. If you're not gonna help, go ahead and quit."

Yeah, that's where I saw it also. Haven't run a low-level character on other servers in a long, long time, so I don't know if it happens elsewhere. I'm wondering if it happens mostly on big servers?

As for forming my own teams, yep, I often do - but if I'm not in the mood to make a team, I keep an eye out for "Sewers LFM" broadcasts anyway.

Maybe it's always been there, but it was new to me. Didn't know if it was a side-effect of MA, or if there was some other reason behind it.
  5. This is gonna sound like a rant, and it is a little bit - but I'm a little confused about something. When and why did low-level sewer team runs start becoming selective?

First noticed this shortly after Mission Architect was introduced (and non-MA teams could hardly be found). I had rolled up a new controller, hit Atlas, and saw a "Sewer Team LFM" message. Sent a /tell to the team leader. Got no response, but seconds later the team leader broacast "Sewer Team LFM - no trollers or defs". I almost replied, "But, but, I has Sands of Mu and Blackwand Staff" - but then realized I'd be begging for a sewers team, which just seemed wrong...

Took a break from the game, and came back this weekend. First sewer team message I saw was "Sewer Team LFM - since its 2x XP weekend, all ATs are welcome", but I still see broadcasts for "blasters only" or "tanks and blasters."

Maybe I'm wearing rose-colored glasses, but I always thought ATs were pretty much irrelevant on low-level sewer runs. Get a team of 8 and steamroll until you stop getting XP. What happened? Why are blasters and tanks seemingly favored? Or is it just my imagination?
  6. Knocking a baddie off a tall building, then leaping after him to finish the job. Bonus points if you defeat him before he lands.
  7. Hi folks, back in the game after sniffing around a few others. Was gonna get back into things by making a new character, general concept being a jewel thief turned hero. The character would rely heavily on gadgets, but I can't decide which gadget-like set to go with. Any advice or warnings?

BTW, in keeping with the character's natural theme, offense would be covered by Archery or Assault Rifle (or Dual Pistols, if my will breaks down).
  8. In the place between places, in the moment between moments, a vibration echoes discordantly in the ocean of nothing. When last this chord was struck, its meaning was unknown. It was the malaise of mystics and madmen, the stirring of sleeping spirits. It became disaster. We hear it again, those of us who haunt the corner of humanity's eye. But this time, we know what it means. This time, we will be ready.

Protectorate Hermeticum is recruiting magic-themed characters. Magic origin is not required, as long as the character has some connection to the mystical world - scholars and madmen, angels and demons, ghosts, goblins, witches and warlocks are all welcome to join. In short, the Protectorate would like to gather those of occult mind or nature to fight the coming Rikti menace.

The Protectorate has a small, but functional base. New recruits will have immediate access to a personal vault, an inventions worktable, a radiation emulator (for converting tech base salvage to temporary buffs), and a telepad to Terra Volta and Croatoa. In addition, the Protectorate's coalition partners have telepads giving access to most, if not all, of Paragon City. Initial base-building priorities include a resurrection circle and expanding "home" telepad access.

Aside from the mystic theme, the flavor and policies of the group will largely be determined by active recruits. I'm holding off on making formal rules and guidelines until we get a critical mass of players. If interested in joining, or if you want more information, send a /tell or /email to Thantasia or Aaghra (global @DMInc), or PM me.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
