Quote:Just a slight tangent here - but funerals are not really designed for the recently dearly-departed. So your desire that people be honest is really not the point (and you won't be there to see it anyway, even as a spirit watching your own funeral.)I guess I'm the weird one here. I want people to be honest at my funeral and would greatly appreciate it. I feel that never liking a person the entire life then when they die all of a sudden they want to make peace as the most disrespectful thing they can do or pretending they liked the person in the eulogy when two days ago they was on the verge of sending them to the coffin themselves. At my funeral, I rather people be honest than fake. But that is just me. If they viewed me as nothing but a mere spoiled brat and that is on their mnd, then say so. Dont get up there and all of a sudden act like we was the best of friends and I was the greatest person in the world when in no manner when I was living was that ever expressed.
Funerals are for the comfort of those still living - the widow, the children, the best friends, etc.
So standing in front of the room giving your "honest" opinion that the deceased was not a nice guy anyway, so don't be too upset that he's gone is realy just cruel to those who are mourning.
Some of them will get really ticked off - and will respond with anger and cries of "why are you being such a ******?" -
Quote:<shrug> To me, that news doesn't mean jack. Right from the start, I figured the best hope was that the game would be bought by another studio who, obviously, would already have their own staff.
Did you expect the people at Paragon Studios to wait and see what happened? They have FAMILIES to support.
Especially the last part. - and those would have been some f the first calls they made in a job search.
I'm really, really hoping they got decent severance packages to tide themselves over for a bit, but I would have to assume that in the MMORPG world, being out of work is frightening and allowing job skills to lag behind is poisonous to getting another job in the industry. You are quickly assumed to have out-of-date skills.
And of course, some of the people laid off at PS had some good friends - or at least LinkedIn contacts - and those would have been some of the first calls they made in a job search.
Good for whoever it is - he/she managed to find something really quickly. -
Bye, Z!
Totally agree with the idea of taking a break to spend time with family before job-hunting in earnest. After the system-shock you had a couple of weeks ago, the time is well-deserved. Thanks for sticking with this motley crew as long as you did to help ease our fears as best you could. -
TonyV didn't mention - but we had 5 teams running in a league last night on Infinity for Posi 1 and 4(?) for Posi 2. There may have been others, but the league teams raced through and cheered each other on.
And yes, we had to wait to start for Tony to reach minimum level for the TF - he showed up on a level 9 scrapper - what a noob! -
Quote:To answer SuperOZ's question.
I'd get ready to answer the next threat to Paragon's safety with whatever hero I could make...
It's a simplistic answer, but I'm a simple kind of guy when it comes down to it...Quote:Probably resume ******** about Inventions and reroll the last of my Blasters, a 42 Archery/Devices.
Then make another thread trying to figure out how to give Samuel Tow, the character, a decent Inventions build so he can deal with Dark Astoria.
*edit*
And tell all my old CoH buddies to come back, of course.
It's so nice to know that some things may never change.... -
Beata will be there to finish out the cycle & get her TFC!
-
Planning on being there - but I do't know who to bring.
I may bring one of my older alts who haven't done Penny's TF yet. -
Goodbye, Cherokee.
Generally I have been holding off responding to goodbye threads, and also they seem to congregate more down in City Life - but I didn't want you to feel that no one cared.
I remember watching posts, and having a discussion with you about something or the other.... I don't think we ever teamed.
Take care! -
Bad, terrible, awful idea.
Really.
There are threads down in the section discussing and all the social media sites involved in the campaign that will tell you what a bad, awful, terrible idea this is. Like this one: NCSoft is not our enemy
It's not mature or adult to bash products and reflects negatively on any position you are trying to support.
Play GW2 if you like it; don't play it if you don't like it. Simple as that.
edited to add linky. -
Quote:this is why such matters are usually handled by class action lawsuit where in the company pays out a lump sum to all the complaining parties and then the lawyer gets there bit. Also be aware just cause one lawyer wouldn't do it for less then a 1k retainer doesn't mean another will. but lets cross that bridge when we come to it.Quote:Look, i'm as pissed at NC as anyone, but this idea is just silly.
The number of potential plaintiffs is relatively tiny, the monetary losses of each ditto. Imagine success: five or ten years from now each plaintiff gets a check for $1.50. Whoohoo!
It does nothing to bring the game back, it provides next to nothing in the way of compensation for affected players, the only profit in the entire enterprise would accrue to the lawyers involved.
I'm all for annoying NC and making them regret this entire debacle, but really now. The numbers simply don't justify a legal assault, beyond complaining to some other huge corporate entity like a credit card company and letting the two of them go at it like prehistoric monsters in a Ray Harryhausen film.
And if you ever got one of those "you may have rights in the X class action suit." type of notice and actually bothered to respond probably already know that you get a teeny, tiny check which represents your propotionate share of the damages awarded AFTER attorneys fees and court costs, including any discovery, additional motions filed, etc., are also paid for - and gods help you if there was any testimony required from an expert witness.
Just not worth it, to me, at least. YMMV but finding enough people that royally peeved to get the initial class certified would be a long shot.
File a dispute form, stating services were not delivered (after 11/30, and after they show up on your credit/debit card statement - within 60 days of statement delivery). Form is filed directly with VISA, PayPal, MC, Amex, etc. -
Some of the tech specs they included in the article look like clues to how the game was structured, for some of those codemonkeys out there trying to figure it out. Interesting architecture bits there.
And now we have exhausted my personal computer architecture knowledge - just enough to recognize it when it's discussed, -
I thought that was the screenie that Niviene arranged for one of the anniversary stories on the NCSoft page and also as a press release.
If it was already in a press release, wouldn't that make it as least semi in the public domain?
I suggest contacting Zwill to see if this was the screenie taken at anniversary in either April 2012 or April 2011 - I can't remember when Niv left, although it should be searchable here as an announcement, which I ca't do right now since I'm at work and it would take too long (hate the search function on this forum). -
This is one of those threads where I truly wish we had a "LIKE!!!!" button.
Outstanding -
Reminder of the earlier start time!
Looking forward to seeing everyone. -
I will be there with somebody blasty or controllery - not sure who, since I am frantically working on a couple of the newer powersets to try to get them to high level play for the time we may have left here.
-
Three instances of AP on Virtue at 11:00 a.m. Keep it building, people!
-
For those out of town or otherwise busy tomorrow - if you are OK with leaving your computer on and logged into the game, someone suggested that you enter AP, go to AE and start an AE mission. This will immediately put you in TF mode.
DONT START THE MISSION! Leave the AE building and head over to City Hall and park yourself for the rally.
I haven't had a chance to test this myself, but it sounds plausible. I will cerainly be trying it tomorrow. -
Sending a coupple tonight, in case it isn't too late.
I could send Photobucket pics from work, but not the actual costume file. -
7, after nearly 8 years (November ) But I hope to have a couple more befre the end, Beata, my Fortunata (the psi blaster I always wanted since I found psi blast underwhelming) and my namesake AdAstra, dark/ice/ice Blaster.
Infinity
Maurya, Blaster en/elec/elec, my first character (rolled originally on my husband's account before I got my own, then re-rolled as one of 5 initial characters) First to 50, took about 4 years
Brighid Frost, Blaster fire/ice/elec (going for an elementalist theme)
Winter Shock, Controller elec/cold/ice, my fastest to 50
Scorching Wrath, Corruptor fire/therm/power (originally Scirocco as a Patron), my only villain to 50, transferred over from Triumph so I could have someone to do the villainside SFs. Her backstory, never really written up, was based on a Woman Scorned, which she was way before that badge came out because I rolled her on CoV pre-start weekend as one of 5 initial villains.
Liberty (my original home server)
Libby Belle, Scrapper kat/regen/body, Bio: Libby began her heroing career as a sidekick to Sergeant Liberty, but after Sarge was injured fighting Warwolves on Striga Island, Libby had to step up to the plate in his place. (Sergeant Liberty is my husband's character, but he defected to WoW).
Isotope 167, Defender rad/dark/dark, started out as a Winter Lord Baby and was therefore inactive for about a year while I learned to play a defender. Bio: Nina Patterson was the child of two brilliant scientists. Together they patented numerous inventions that harnessed the energy found in the nucleus of an atom. Her parents were killed in an attack by Arachnos on their laboratories; Nina is perhaps their greatest experiment - she uses their work to fight crime as the amazing Isotope 167.
Daemona Agoniste, controller fire/rad/fire Bio: Agoniste has escaped from another plane - a rebel against the Infernal Legions! She was recruited by the Paragon Arcanum to fight evil-doers in Paragon City, as she builds her control of the destructive elements of fire and radiation. One day, she hopes to be powerful enough to return home to lead the Rebellion to Ultimate Victory! Oh, BTW, she is still getting used to fashions on this plane, and she is a little bit color-blind, so please overlook any fashion faux pas! Aggie started out on Infinity, lotsa TFs with GATE-Keeper's Tuesday night crowd and Johnny Taxibot/IronBlade's Saturday gang, before transferring to Liberty to free up a slot. -
Quote:This is a very valid point.I would suggest they start caring, because who provides that "more money"? The customers do, that's who.
I don't care what: ticking off customers is a stupid thing to do, because they might well take those dollars elsewhere. Companies of all kinds act like they are made of cast iron and will be here for centuries. Not without customers, they won't. Just ask AOL.
In RL, part of my job is to counsel organizations about the technical legal and regulatory requirements for the services they provide. My colleagues and I usually take our counsel beyond the strict requirement, however - "Do you want to be that bad headline in the local paper? The one about how you are treating customers poorly or just generally being a jerk?"
On a local level, this is really important - reputational risk. It's less important for large multi-nationals, by a vast degree. But in today's increasing social media world, the headline on the front page of the newspaper shows up as nasty FaceBook or Twitter traffic, and "human interest" stories on CNN.com. -
OMG!
This is excellent news. And so much easier than taking a screenshot, then capturing notes to go with it, which is my own clunky workaround.
