That doesn't sound completely at odds with the America and Freedom Phalanx of CoX Lore I know. Go about your happy extermination, and don't forget the identical twins.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well...
...except that twins (no, not even identical ones) are not clones, nor as genetically identical as true clones are.
Oh, and twins are also NOT unlawful.
But other than those two little nits... -
The 5th Column has had story issues for their entire existence. Perhaps this would be a good time for you guys to fix all of that?
First we learned that in 1939 Adolf Hitler sent a team of covert Nazi super soldiers to America.
Later we learn that Requiem, an Italian, was not only their leader, but their founder? What? I thought that the 5th Column was a group of German Nazi Super Solders. Founded and trained by the Wehrmacht, now they're Italian? Did that accidentally get retconned in during the great change over? There's no way that the meglomaniacial Hitler would place an Italian in charge of his "Übermenschen Supersoldaten."
Ok... So then they go into hiding at the end of the war, and stay hidden until the First Rikti War in 2002. Requiem, who has fused with a Nictus and is now something like 100 years old, and who has personally been in charge of the 5th Column for almost 70 years, gives a speech to his troops on the final day of the 5th Column's existence:
"You, my most loyal of subjects, are to be privy to a secret. Even though the 5th Column may fall this day, our time in the sun is NOT over. We WILL return. I have seen to this personally. Lie in wait within the ranks of the Council. Wait for the sign. Never despair...
...the time WILL come. "
So ok. The end is nigh, he knows that he can't fight it, so his plan once again is to just hide and wait it out. But, then when the 5th Column does finally rise up again, they swear allegence to some guy that they don't know from some alternate dimension. And while that is happening Requiem says; "Oh well. I'll just stay here with the council. I've somehow mysteriously forgotten about my obsession with the return of the 5th Column. Besides, the Council has better health insurance."
All of this information available on Paragon Wiki, but it's also available in that 600 page story bible that Manticore keeps trying to convince us actually exists. But you know what's even funnier? There were multiple forum threads during the beta process explaining just how wrong the story for this Task Force/Strike Force is. It was said weeks ago that the story for this TF/SF ignored canon. Why wasn't that addressed weeks ago?
I appologize for the snark in this post, especially towards the end. I guess that I'm just still so shocked that this TF/SF was allowed to go live with the huge holes in the story. The bugs I can understand, you can always get a patch in next week. But the holes in this story are so big it'd be like if Superman suddenly forgot who Lois Lane even was and then got down on one knee and proposed to Perry White. -
Having searched and not found a guide for Fiery Melee / Shield Defense, I've been thinking about writing one myself. Then I realized that there aren't guides for Shield Defense at all.
So should I write one? I don't want to write one if someone else is writing one too. If I do write a guide should it be Fire/Shield or just Shields in general? Anyone have an opinion? -

My server would allow you to beat up contacts who gave you missions you didn't like.
[/ QUOTE ]Poor Willy.

Forget Willy. I'd break Hardcase like an eggshell.
In fact, I think I'd murder most of the villainside contacts.
"Hey punk. Get over here, I got a job for y... *ack* Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh.. MY NECK!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaggghhh! Please! No more!! No!!"
*THUD*
Yeah, I really really really hate most of the villainside contacts. If it weren't for mayhem missions letting me shoot cops I'd never play villainside.
Oh, and what Badstorm said too. -

*cough*Issue15hasvillaincontent*cough*
[/ QUOTE ]
I know, and I never said that it didn't. That still doesn't change what I said though. Everytime someone complains about the huge disparity between hero and villain content - missions / zones / Task Forces - they're going to be told one of those above things.
That Issue 15 has added a single Strike Force does not address my point at all. One single Strike Force being added to villainside while another Task Force is added to heroside in no way addresses the huge disparity between hero and villain content. -
The only thing that I'm unhappy about is what Going Rogue will do to new villain content. I'm not going to say that GR will kill new villain content, because I think it's obvious at this point that "new villain content" has been a dead idea for quite awhile now. I suppose that Going Rogue will just be the nail in the coffin. Once it goes live, everytime someone asks for more villain content they're going to be told:
1) Go to RWZ or Cimerora or Pretoria and do the hero TFs with heroes.
2) Go to the MA and make it yourself.
3) Bored with the villain zones? Switch to heroside.
Someone screenshot this post and save it, because that's exactly what's going to happen. -
I love all of your ideas Memphis Bill.
Man, I just wish they'd do something with bases! -
[ QUOTE ]
Five years of people going out of their minds for customization, and it finally arrives to a resounding 'meh'.
We're a messed up bunch.
[/ QUOTE ]
Please realize that a number of factors are involved in this.
1) We haven't seen Power Customization. What we have seen is Power Colorization. Not the same thing. You tell me that my wizard can use a wand instead of the Tri-corder for the Medicine Pool, that my Tech Energy Blaster can choose a blaster rifle to have all of his blasts emanate from, instead of having them come out of his hands like he's a wizard or something, then I'll go crazy. When I can choose different Knock Out Blow and Energy Transfer animations, when my Gun Drone sits on my shoulder auto-firing at targets around me, when my Super Speed uses a motorcycle, my Flight a magic carpet or my permanent costume item Jet Pack, then I'll go coo-coo for coco puffs! Until then... colorization, meh.
2) While colorization is cool and all, what we really want is Power Customization. Picking your own animations and effects. We haven't seen that, and most of us have learned not to believe that it will happen until we see it happening on the live servers. We've been told, "It can't be done!!" too many times and we've been lead to believe that something will happen (Issue 13: All your base are belong to us!, Cathedral of Pain Trial, City Vault, I'm sure you all can think of a few others) too many times only to see it die on the vine before it ever makes it to the live servers. Because of this many of us find it difficult to get all excited about anything, but most especially not about something this vague and far into the future.
3) As you said, it's been 5 years. Many of the people who fell desperately in love with this game and then clamored on the forums for Power Customization have moved on. They're no longer here to comment. Many of us that are left have given up hope of ever seeing Power Customization. Many of us are too new to remember it ever being discussed on the forums beyond: "Devs said it can't happen. Lrn2 search n00b!! IBTL +1"
I think that I speak for at least some of us when I say that we do not believe that this tiny little sneak-peak is all that there will be in Issue 16. But! Until we see a bit more. Until we get some concrete information our reaction is just going to be meh.
If for no other reason than we don't want to be disappointed yet again. -
<ul type="square">[*]Thugs MMs that have their pistols drawn while they are Hovering will often lock up. As in completely freeze unable to do anything until they log off and log back into the game. This happened so often that a friend of mine that I duo with a lot had to respec his Thugs MM out of Hover.
[*]When using the Veteran attack Ghost Slaying Axe (or Undead Axe or whatever it's called), color from the character's costume creeps up onto the character's neck after the axe is swung. This lasts until the axe disappears.
[*]When a Peacebringer is in Nova form the Nemesis Staff veteran power will be greyed out. If however you hit the button anyway a Nemesis Staff will appear in the Peacebringer's teeth, with the end sticking completely through the Kheldian.

[*]Many emotes will not play if a character has any armor toggle on. Some will, some won't, depending on the armor toggle. Far too many combinations to list.

[*]The magic pack Valkyrie wings clip with the legs of all character models.

Ok, some people don't like the door thing, others do. We could spent the next 10 pages griping about hot doors until the flames get the thread locked! Wouldn't that be great?
Or we could just end the threadjack and move on already.
Here's my tip, for what it's worth. Some people like allies, some don't. Make the ally a Lieutenant with a scrapper defense powerset. Tough enough to survive with some help from the player, but not so tough that the player ends up wondering who's really the star of this show.
Then, I'll usually have the contact say something like; "Don't forget to call in, if you need some help." Make those letters in orange or bright yellow. In the mission have a nonrequired item right up front, name it: "You could use this to call Wonderlad!" Have the ally spawn once the glowie is completed. That way the player has the choice to have an ally or not. -
Your Villain Needs Your Help
Please allow me to explain.
I've been meaning to make a villain story-arc in the Mission Architect for quite some time now. I've just been waiting until the devs quit breaking the Mission Architect. Yeah, I know. I'll be waiting a few years at the rate they're going. So I've since decided to just wait until Issue 15 goes live. (By the way, I noticed that hero arcs outnumber villainous arcs by quite a bit. Why do the players hate villains!?!?!?!?!eleventyone1one1one!! Sorry, couldn't resist.)
Anyway, I was reading the thread "Does evil ever win? Should it?" It's some great reading, you should check it out, if you haven't already.
Back already? Ok great.
In order to start writing my arc I have to first decide on three things. First off I've decided that in my arc the contact is going to work for the Player Character Supervillain (hereafter refered to as PCSV), bringing him information and opportunities that he has asked for. The contact is also going to be respectful and even a little bit fearful of the PCSV. Secondly, the arc will assume that the PCSV is intelligent, not simply some super-powered idiot stooge robbing banks with "Born to go back to the Zig" tattooed on his forehead.
In otherwords: my story-arc will be completely different from just about every dev written villainous story-arc currently in the game.
So that just leaves the third thing: The Goal. Obviously I can't use "conquer the world" since that cannot succeed, and I want the PCSV to be able to succeed. I could do the "track down and kill the Superhero that's been foiling your plans." The problem with that is that kill Stateman/Positron/Castle story-arcs have already been done to death, and a lot of villains couldn't care less about those guys anyway. What I'm struggling to find is a goal that will be a good motivation for a wide range of villains. I've thought about using a simple McGuffin. Something like "Let's (find) / (create) this (Magical Item of Power) / (Powerful High-Tech Device) that will increase your superpowers even further."
This is where I need your help. What do you think would be a good choice as a goal for a villainous story-arc? Something that you believe will appeal to a wide range of villains. Or a goal that would appeal to a large number of your own villainous characters. Bonus points if it's a thing/item that's already mentioned in game.
Please help me to help your villain. -
[ QUOTE ]
I don't really care if you rate it 1 star, 0 stars, 3 stars, or 5 stars.
[/ QUOTE ]
What?
Of course you really care! You wouldn't be crying about your one star on the forums if you didn't care.
Tell ya what, give me the Arc ID#. I'll run your story-arc and make a long and detailed post right here in this thread about every thing that's wrong with your story-arc. -
I'd just like to be the courteous voice of dissent here.
I like the star system. While it is indeed open to abuse, it's fast and simple and has worked well for many other websites and critics in the past.
Now that the devs has slowed the most abusive farming and once they delete the badge-hunters' motivations to bork the system, the star rating system should start to actually function correctly. Well, I'm also assuming that they'll actually ban the people who grief others by constantly one-starring story-arcs. Positron did promise that they would do just that.
Besides, do you really believe that the devs who couldn't forsee that people would exploit the MA (Man! If only they'd done a closed beta test of I14! - Oh wait they did, but they ignored what was said to them by hundreds of testers!) would really be able to write a program that will present mission stats in such a way that the average player will be able to decipher?
I believe that the biggest problem people have with the star system isn't with any one-star cartels. I believe that the biggest problem is that people can't handle criticism and competition. When an entire team runs your arc and then one-stars it because they don't like it, it's easier to blame it on "roving bands of one-star terrorists" that it is to simply admit that you don't have any talent for writing. -
[ QUOTE ]
Hence, a little logic says,
3) They will not be doing anything to address older badge problems. Since deleting is not an option in their opinion, and they don't seem to want to put in more reasonable improvements to the badge system, we'll never see things like a fix to how the damage badges are counted.
[/ QUOTE ]
A little logic nothing... Synapse flat out said; "We have no current plans to revisit old badges at this time, and I dont foresee us doing this really." (emphasis mine)
So Synapse has basically said they ain't gonna work on none of the old badges.
[ QUOTE ]
In other words, we may be completely wasting our keystrokes in this thread.
[/ QUOTE ]
The PvPers had a list of Known Issues. The Devs ignored it and did what they wanted to do.
The Base Builders have had a list of Known Issues since the dawn of time. The Devs just plain ignore it and them.
The Badging Community has a list of Known Issues. The Devs ignore it and delete 89 badges punitively.
You're definitely wasting your time. It's your time to waste, but if I may offer you all a bit of advice... take the weekend off from badge issues. Take that time to just think; "Do I really want to continute banging my head against the wall in an attempt to convince the devs to fix some of these ridiculous badges?" Come Monday if the answer is yes, then carry on. If not, then my I respectfully recommend that you all save yourselves the headaches?
I think the devs have proven that they don't see us as important, as customers, as people. They see us as subscriptions, as money. Don't like it? Complain and you'll lose what you've worked for. Your badges, your PERC title, or just flat out banned altogether. -
[ QUOTE ]
No, I'm not a copyright lawyer.
[/ QUOTE ]Which is why you should just stop. You're posting about something that you know nothing about. And you're wrong.
[ QUOTE ]
Needless to say if they enforce the rule based solely on name - be it for character or mission arc - a whole lot of people who had no idea their name wasn't original (and *nothing* is original - I'm sure random patterns of letters have shown up as dragon names in published material before) would be in trouble.
[/ QUOTE ]For the third time now, at no point have I ever said that the name Kobayashi Maru was copyrighted.
What I did say was that the story Kobayashi Maru - which is about a ship that sends out a distress signal and then puts the stars into a no-win scenario - is copyrighted. Let there be no mistake on this, that story is copyrighted. THIS IS A FACT Please stop trying to dispute this.
The story that Circuit Boy wrote is basically the same thing. Several of us have reported it now, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see how the GMs rule. Either way I'm done with this thread, and with people that can't admit that they're wrong when concrete proof has been waved right under their noses. -
While I realize that everyone on the internet is an attorney, I don't care what you think is true. What you believe to be true does not matter.
If you go to the United States Copyright Office: http://cocatalog.loc.gov/
If you type in the words Kobayashi Maru and then hit the 'Return' key on your keyboard, you will find that Kobayashi Maru is copyrighted.
Whether or not you believe that the term can be copyrighted does not matter. It is copyrighted. Ok? -
[ QUOTE ]
If there is anything that you think should go into the guide, let me know and I'll put it in.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can you please, please also put in some information for a build that uses just SOs? Almost all of the guides I see nowdays show a build at level 50 with 6 trillion worth of purples and special ultra-supa-dupa-rare IOs.
Some of us have neither the time nor the inclination to purple-out a character. We'd like some powerset and build advice too. -
[ QUOTE ]
Frankly, I don't care how upset someone is that they couldn't finish an arc. A 2 star or below should REQUIRE a comment, any comment.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok! After I 1-star your story-arc here's my required comment: "igberiubgfri oneienfienfeigfneriuner ifuhdlkjgbdfxkljgh!"
[ QUOTE ]
I tend to follow up with people when they leave me feedback to let them know I've listend to that feedback and appreciate it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I don't want those "follow up" comments. The last thing that I want is to start getting tells from some person whose story-arc I 1-starred four hours ago and then promptly forgot all about.
Tell---> What do you mean my story arc is too hard you idiot?!?!?! Just because the minions are AR/Dev & Psi & Rad & Dark all on extreme doesn't mean they're overpowered!! Guess you should'a brought your A-Game huh CHUMP??
Tell---> What's wrong? Nothing to say now huh moron?
Tell---> I know you're on, quit being a wuss and respond you meat-head!
Tell---> Tell ya what you *$*&($W^&&^ I'm gonna look up your global in the MA and 1-star all of your arcs. How's that sound?
These tells will happen. Know how I know this? Because I've already received them. No. I really really don't want you to "follow up" with me. I rated your arc, and now I'm busy doing something else. Go spellcheck your story-arc and just leave me alone.
[ QUOTE ]
I simply can't stand it when someone comes along and 0 or 1 stars my arc for no particular reason and i HAVE to assume it is for no particular reason if they don't leave that comment.
[/ QUOTE ]
Statistically speaking, if someone 1-starred your story-arc it's probably because they don't like your story-arc! You know, I hate to break it to you, but you're probably not Stephen King. You're probably not the awesome teller of tales that you think you are. Assume what you want. When someone 1-stars your arc they're saying; "Your story-arc sucks." Maybe they're right.
[ QUOTE ]
but it should be the Author's right to be able to keep track of people who do lowball rate just to do so.
[/ QUOTE ]
What are you, a cop? A federal agent? No. You do not have the right to keep track of me for any reason.
Any time an artist presents work to the public he's going to have to learn to take criticism. Whether you feel said criticism is waranted or not doesn't matter. If you can't handle the criticism without trying to insist that you should be granted some sort of special rights to track people or force them to give you meaningful feedback then maybe you shouldn't be writing anything for public consumption. -
[ QUOTE ]
You cannot copyright a name.
It is, in fact, impossible. You cannot trademark a name. (You *can* trademark an image + name combination however)
As long as it uses CoH and your own personal stuff, and no Star Trek IP, you are legally fine. (Whether the GMs will see it that way is another story; but from a legal standpoint, it's not a problem)
What you CAN Copyright:
A Name + Story = Ie: The whole package.
[/ QUOTE ]The Kobayashi Maru that is copyrighted by CBS Studios Inc. is a story about a ship that is an unwinnable scenario. The Kobayashi Maru Challenge #178718 is a story set on a ship that is an unwinnable scenario. That's awfully close to me, and copyright infringement or not, I'm betting that the customer service guy will error on the safe side and lock the story.
Especially given Paramount's well-known tendancy to sue people infringing on their franchise. Especially since in my petition I'm going to include a direct link to the US Copyright Office's page showing that this title is copyrighted.
I'm busy now and won't be logging on for a few more hours though. -
[ QUOTE ]
If it ever was copyrighted to begin with, it's not any more.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well actually, if you go to the U.S.Copyright Office search page: http://www.copyright.gov/records/
you'll see that the Kobayashi Maru story title is copyrighted by CBS Studios Inc.
I'd recommend that you remove or retitle this story-arc before it gets reported and you lose that slot to a locked mission. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just how powerful is the 10% luckyshot...

Is this a new IO set or something?
I ask because neither Assault Rifle, nor Blasters, have a power named "Lucky Shot."
So please explain. -

2: Require the completion of an arc before it can be rated -
[/ QUOTE ]
Problem. I zone in. Four AVs kill me right after I come around the first corner. I should be able to 1-star this thread and quit. Under your proposed system I can no longer do that.
I would be in favor of a system that disallows EBs and AVs in the first mission, and then requires you to finish the first mission before you can rate the story-arc.
[ QUOTE ]
3: Require comments for ratings under 3 stars -
[/ QUOTE ]
Once again: 349hgfdubjhvbnelriht4ioh!
However, changing the interface so that it prompts people to send a comment if they rate an arc at three stars or less without requiring it would be a good thing. Especially if the comments are fixed to be annonymous again and the prompt reminds people of that.
[ QUOTE ]
5: Append Comments To Arcs
[/ QUOTE ]
All published arcs should have a tab that lists all feedback on that arc sorted by date/time. Only the author can see this feedback unless he choses to make it public. This way comments are stored, annonymity is preserved, and we still don't have to use that broken email system - which should either be fixed or just shut off already.
[ QUOTE ]
6: Unpublish all non-Developer's Choice arcs
[/ QUOTE ]
Everytime a patch affects the MA an internet-email should be automatically sent to the person who authored the arc. The email would inform them that a recent patch has affected story-arcs. They now have 7 days to review, fix, and republish their story-arc or it will automatically lose "Devs Choice" status.
[ QUOTE ]
7: Include a system to contest ratings
[/ QUOTE ]
Completely disagree. You're not being griefed by ratings griefers. Seriously. Just accept the fact that you're not Stephen King already and move on. -
The absolute best part about Champions Online going live will be watching Johnny gripe and complain on their forums for a change.
And Phil... weren't you supposed to be in like forum poster therapy or something? And what's with the whole gangster thing? -
Totally Agree. This stuff should have happened already:[ QUOTE ]
1) Have rare recipes only come in increments of five, like normal recipes. Do away with non-multiples of five completely from the auction window.
3) Add a "Looking for members" option to the search interface for team leaders.
9) Give everyone a Walk inherent power.
12) Add an npc_stuck command that runs the /stuck code on spawned NPCs in an instanced mission. If you have to, limit its use to every ten minutes. Or hour. I don't care, but we really need it.
13) Allow us to gift items in the PlayNC store to other people. They'd make great prizes for contests and will earn you more money. I've also known people quit the game because of financial difficulties that I'd be more than willing to pay a month or two for, but that I don't particularly want to exchange personal information with.
14) At the very least, give us the option to get a serial code instead of applying to my account.
15) Change "Your supergroup's rent was due on (date)" to "Your base will go dark on (date)"
16) Add an option to autopay the base rent instead of having the base go dark. In fact, consider making this the default. No matter how stupid your SG leader is, the only time your supergroup base would go dark is if you literally don't have enough prestige in the bank.
18) Allow coalition members to use a base's crafting tables, Ouroboros pillar, and storage vault.
22) Add the ability to buy inspirations and enhancements from completed Ouroboros arc contacts.
24) Suppress powers in auction houses.
25) Allow the team leader to kick offline task force members.
[/ QUOTE ]Re: 13 & 14, I want to buy extras and gift them to friends. I can't do this now. This means that I can't give you my money Paragon Studios. Don't you want more of my money?
Seriously, just fix the whole rent issue period. Rent is always due on the 1st, base goes dark on the 5th. Always. Auto-pay should be an option. Coalition members should be an allowed permission on all base items, including storage items.
Re: Contacts, they should sell SOs at a lower price than the stores do, and buy them at the best price regardless of their origin. Seriously. They're supposed to be doing you a favor by offering SOs to you. Well offering to sell me SOs at +25% of what they cost me at the NPC store isn't doing me any favors.
Re: 24 Suppress powers in WW & BM. Please god yes! Why hasn't this been done already???
Ok suggestion, but not important enough to take Dev time away from other stuff (IMO):[ QUOTE ]
4) Group salvage in storage bins by type and sort alphabetically within the types.
5) Sort badges alphabetically in the badge window, or at least badges that have no other logical order. (Defeats, gladiators, etc.)
7) Add option to set drop thresholds. (E.g. "I only want uncommon recipes and above, I only want level 2 or 3 inspirations.")
6) List store value of items in the auction house and let people sell items there for that price.
8) Have the installer open web links in a system's default browser instead of mandating IE.
10) Have the music in Pocket D and within missions adjust to the music volume, not sound effects.
11) Add a game_time command that tells you what time it is in Paragon City.
17) Allow more than one person to use base crafting tables at the same time.
19) Add the ability to quit to the login screen using the quit slash command.
20) Allow skipping the timer to quit to the login screen.
23) Fix the Robo-surgery base item. (Did they fix this already? I honestly don't know.)
26) Allow us to switch from full screen mode to windowed mode and back without having to restart.
27) Change the timestamp scheme of screenshots from MM-DD-YYYY to YYYY-MM-DD so that they sort in chronological order.
[/ QUOTE ]While I agree that these would all be nice to have I really, honestly believe that the devs have much much more important things they should be working on. Like fixing the memory leaks, and fixing the game so that it quits lagging for no apparent reason. I mean c'mon now! My machine can run a server, play music, and run other applications in the background while I'm playing other games that have higher system requirements than this one without even the hint of lag. This game lags often and hard even when I've got no other applications running on my machine at all. I don't mean to be rude, but fixing that issue is more important than any of these minor QoL things.
Completely disagree:[ QUOTE ]
2) List primary and secondary powersets in the team search window and supergroup window.
21) Reduce the time between costume changes to once every 10, 15, or even 20 seconds.
[/ QUOTE ]SG window yeah sure, team search window, no way. No emp defenders and non kin controllers already have a hard enough time finding a team. -
[ QUOTE ]
Alright Devs. This is badly needed, especially if people are going to plan on placing AVs into their mission arcs.
[/ QUOTE ]No it really isn't. Change the AV to an LT and then test. Change back when done.
[ QUOTE ]
Perhaps let our Health bar drop to 0, but don't allow us to die? We can also test out how hard our mission is then.
[/ QUOTE ]Here's a thought: If you the author of a mission are constantly dying while testing said mission, then maybe it's too hard and you should tone the mission down?
There's already to many missions filled full of overpowered minions. Your idea would just make it worse. Much worse.
