It dawns on me that they missed a chance to put different stances in the game with Staff melee. How much cooler would the set have been if each Form caused you to fight from a different stance?
I realize that it may be an bit of an illusion that you are fighting from a different stance with powers like ninja run. I say this because you still attack, and return to the base stance. It is the ready stance that is different. -
And for the trials you named here, Snow has said pretty much the same thing, bring what you want. I have to agree though DD, UG (which I hate with a passion), and MoM are a different ball game.

Quote:This is just not true. So many players are hoarders and run trials over and over just for the drop table and the astral merits. Not sure if serious. The 20 hours is the reward penalty time. Once a player runs the trial, they aren't going to get the same rewards so they aren't going to run the trial again until they can get the rewards again. The exception to this rule is if a player decides to run the trial again despite rewards out of charity or if they really like that trial.
The E-merit is the ONLY reward that is not repeatable, and iirc that is only in BAF and LAM, maybe Keys now.
I think this statement down plays the value of Threads, and Components. -
Quote:It is because of the server culture in general. Snow is a part of my global network that started on Tri. I no longer play there (during the day it is pretty dead), but a large number of my friends still do.And, yet. SG finds runs with his requirements that are a clear step down the road toward it... I'd say the evidence counters what you say here quite well.
Snow has no trouble because when he states what he is forming, the reply is "What do you need?" or "What should I bring."
Arcanaville is right, it would just never fly there. Shoot I play on Virtue and it barely makes it through there. When people request AT and powerset info before invite, I just ignore them.
Personally, I would not even attempt UG, MoM, or DD with a toon that is not +2 or +3 shifted. Because to me being face down that much is just not that fun. -

Quote:Both powers are very comic book powers. They do fit the game, which is why I am not totally against new powers. I would just like to see a better split between new power sets, and new animations for old sets.I can fiind staff fighting in just about any fantasy MMO, and dual guns in any generic shooter.
I hate to do it, but I keep coming back to claws and BS. Those animations are just...well...boring. It may be because I have been looking at them for 7+ years, but even in the beginning they were boring compared to some of the other games on the market.
I am pretty sure it would suck as an animator to be told "Hey, this moth you are going to be working on alternate animations for sets we already have made." I am sure they are going, "But I don't get to do something new and cool like staff fighting?" I promise if you are the person who makes exciting animations for old sets, you will be just as praised as Dink was for porting costume options from male to female.
Shoot, most of us have already said we would even PAY for new animations for old powers that we love. -
Great! Now we know what we want. We want to go from Grocery Store Brand Vanilla Ice cream to Hagandaz! I prefer Bluebell when I could eat the stuff, but whatever.
-
Quote:Magic is cool like that though. No need to draw it, when it can just appear. Think about Highlander and all those swords they pulled. With magic things can just appear.I'd love to see some new animations get spread around. SJ's Rib Cracker would be perfect as another alternate for MA's Cobra Strike, for example.
But the option of having Staffs and other stuff for origination points for powers could be interesting, only issue is that blast sets that don't have weapons are balanced around not having redraw, which opens a whole new can of worms.
Sam, the real issue I had with that round of alternate animations we had before as they were just not fun to watch. The only one that I liked was the ground punch for SS. All of the punches for MA looked more like some one throwing a baseball. Compare those to the amazing work done in Street Justice, or the punches thrown by some of the creatures in Preatoria.
I am not saying that I would not still like to see some new powers, like Psi melee. What I am saying is I would pay the same price for animation packs that I would for those new power sets. Judging by the thread, I am not alone. I hope more people speak up, so they can see this an item they could sell. I am not sure it matters though, we have told them we want quivers for years, and we still don't have them. :/ -
-
Quote:I added the bolded portion because I was pretty sure that was what you meant. If not, please correct me.I honestly haven't had an issue with Super Strength since they added the 'Heroic' animations. I pick and choose between the ones I want, and the end result works for me.
...
I would LOVE to see alternate animations for the Broadsword/Battle Axe/War Mace group. I would especially love it if they gave them truly unique animations each, but having some form of alternative to at least some of the attacks would be a big draw to come back to those sets. -
Would you not spend your free points on them? And I agree there is no reason not to share the animations in the game amongst the different sets they work for. Claws and BS are kind of in a hard spot though.

Maybe I am remembering Jack and Geko too harshly, but judging by how they handled their last Super Hero MMO, I don't think I am. In the end I think Jack is a Megalomaniac. :/

Quote:The only flaw I see here is that most of us are not calling for a buff in scrapper dps. I am cool with stalker having higher st dps.Actually, I agree with Reppu here. Stalkers needed a buff, Stalkers got a buff. Said buff did nothing to harm any other AT, and merely helped one that was struggling. It seems to me that no one should be complaining here. But, of course, people must complain, for if a thread was made and everyone agreed... my god, what would become of the world?
Everyone is pointing out AoEs- But there is not one set, not one, where stalker has more. However,t here are plenty where it has less, as it should due to being single target focused. However, it did less single target than a Scrapper. Scrappers could make just as good a single target chain, but do better damage since they had a higher modifier. Now Stalkers actually get the highest ST DPS and everyone whines.
Shoot, all I want is more end, Conserve Changed to Superior Conditioning in Body (or added), and more of what is requested for power proliferation Hint: Ice, EM, SS, Nin.
Any of the above would make me jump for joy. -
Quote:Why exclude melee? In doing that they would lose money they could have made. I only play melee ATs, and would purchase any alternate animation released for any melee AT. I would most likely not do the same for any other type of AT, but I know there are people that would.Id like them to go back and do a few alternate options for almost every power that isnt melee or defense.
There is another thing I would like to add tot he topic. Combat stances.
With Ninja Run, and Beast Run we can fight from a modified (and cooler) combat stance at the cost of extra end. Would you purchase a toggle that cost no end, but allowed you to fight from a different stance?
I REALLY like fighting from the Ninja Run stance, but I hate the added end cost, and the loss of CJ. It would be so awesome to have a toggle that gave me a stance, but didn't give any benefit other than the stance. Imagine being able to fight from the stance that the "Bring It" emote ends in. That I would pay 800 points for something like that quick and fast, far faster than something like the Leprechaun pet. What do you think?
It is odd because I remember the hero and villain stances that came with GR I think it was (or something or other I have) I was excited because I thought that the were new combat stances.
Take note Devs, this is stuff we are willing to pay for. Shoot I am willing to pay the same price as new Power Sets! -
-
To be fair, we also now have a Dev team that is less motivated by their "vision" than the old team. The current Dev team actually takes our (the players) idea of fun into consideration, Jack and his crew never had such concerns as our enjoyment IMO. We can see who didn't with Jack by who left Cryptic.

I have friends who love their characters and don't want to roll alts. I know this is something that would appeal to them as well. I feel it is something else that is going untapped in the Paragon Market.
Really I think how the players latched onto customization, and the fact that this game became the leader of character customization took the original devs by surprise.
We love our characters, and anything that makes them look different makes the game better to us. With new animations I could play through the game with old sets that seem new because they look different. -
Quote:It would depend on how many power sets it has access to. If it is like EATs then same as they are in the market now. If it is more like the core ATs then I could see an increased cost because of increased options.I think you underestimate our desire to expand the game in more creative ways.
Counter question:
Let's say, hypothetically, we introduced a new AT, but because of the amount of time and cost it would take to develop it, we had no choice but to offer it in the Paragon Market (a possible scenario).
Based on our established precedents, what do you feel would be a fair price, in Paragon Points?
I'm interested in your responses. -
I had a discussion with Synapse about this not long ago. My stance was that we need new animations for old powers as much as we need new power sets. He didn't really agree, and said that it only takes about a week longer to make a full power set than it does to just do alternate animations.
I see powers like TW and Staff and get where he is coming from. Then I look at Street Justice, which is my all time favorite set, and wonder if those animations had been offered as alternates for MA if the set would have been needed? I think yes, and Street Justice was a good call.
I can also see where new power sets being made is job security for Synapse. I am good with that, he is my favorite dev, and I don't want to see him go anywhere.
However I am still looking at animations for BS, Claws, and several other melee sets, as well as the ranged sets, and what I see are weak and unimaginative animations compared to everything made after Dual Blades. Even when they did offer alternate animations, well, they were not very good.
So I am curious as to what others think. Would you want to see more all new powers, or alternate animations for current power sets?
I would even be willing to pay for alternate animation sets in the store. Say 600 points for a pack that has alternate animations for all of the claws powers, or power of your choice. Yes, yes I want to get stuff for free, but I also see where things are more likely to get done if we pay for it. That is just how the world works, sorry. -
Quote:I read of the last few pages of the pylon thread on the scrapper boards shows this is not the case though.Scrappers should lead in raw DPS, that can be a combination of AoE DPS and ST DPS.
All in all the lack of a unique inherent is just part of my general frustration with the treatment of scrappers. I have voiced it several times, but the choices made in Power Proliferation is also pretty frustrating. In the last round the feed back thread showed that I was not alone in that frustration.
There are things that I want more in the game than a unique inherent for scrappers. Power Pool customization is at the top of the list, shoot I think it is at the top of the list for the majority of posters on the boards. However the devs are separated into teams, and not every dev is needed for every task. I don't think the FX or animation department would be needed to give scrappers some of what has been suggested in these threads. Most likely it would fall on Synapse's shoulders, maybe Black Scorpion.
Hey I have another idea. Give scrappers a toggle that allows them to turn Knock Back off. Now that would be something great to have!
Really though, any bone thrown to scrappers at this point will make me happy. -

Outside of badges and my attempt to like non-melee during x2 xp, I have been playing nothing but stalkers. They are fun now, that is a good thing. I do think the buffs may have been too much on top of things that were already there, but I really don't care. What is important is that they are fun now, and I see plenty of them in the game. Stalkers are good stuff now.
Scrappers are not bad stuff, they are not in any form of trouble in the game. What they lack is their own "thing" something that is unique to them. They have no ability that is their own, that is not shared in some form with the other melee ATs. That is the point that some of us are trying to make in multiple threads.
I agree with EG, power creep, and balance are really nonexistent in this game. However it is a superhero game and I don't think things should be perfectly balanced in PvE. We have mission sliders to set our own challenges, incarnate trials and zones to use.
Even with that in mind there are things that will affect what little balance there is less than others.
I do not like EG's original suggestion. I could care less what a mob's stats are, am going to attack it either way. A team buff would be cool, but that doesn't really excite me either. More end would excite me, but that can be done by adding Superior Conditioning to the body pool for scrappers. I think it would be cooler if it were an inherent to scrappers, but I may be the only one.
I just want something unique for the Scrapper, because right now they lack that. -
I loved the mission, there are a few things that annoyed me though.
It would have been nice if in the ocean the Rularuu had actually attacked the ship. I spent 10 min running around looking for them to kill them.
There should have been a badge at the end. I chose not to take any help (I am an incarnate after all), a badge would have been nice.
Even w/o the badge for not taking help, some kind of badge for completing all of the arcs would have been nice.
It was the climax of a 7 part story, and it was all in all a good story. I just think there should have been a better reward for the first time completing the final mission. A badge would have been best I think. -
Quote:You are correct, and I apologize.I have no real idea what you are going on about other than you trying to make this some kind of personal thing which it is not for me.
As for the multiple thread portion, I would prefer if it were in one thread, but it is not. Each thread is so long now I am not sure it is even fair to request a merger of the threads. -
See I feel the same way, except about you. It is possible that we are both right I guess. I have attempted to be constructive though, I refuse to back down from my stance. EG is at this point doing a far better job of arguing it than I ever could.
