Most vampire groups I've run across seem to prefer just flat out ignoring any superheroes or supervillains or anything outside of their vampirey circle. Seems a little silly to me. *shrug*

I have been on CoX for, a little past three years, and I found out if I do find a rather casual group of RPers they ostrocise the new people, which bothers me. I joined three groups since I made a post in the Virtue Boards, and asked where RP groups would be. I joined some with a few characters, had little time, but got in, and if I wasn't part of thier forum, or there every other day for an RP session I got left in the dust. People didn't give a damn about my character and I, eventually, had to leave because I did not feel welcome.
    ...
See, I've been on the other end of this, and it bothers -me- when I give new members several options to interact with us like forums, prime activity times, and even OOC channels. And then the new player doesn't take advantage of any other RP opportunities I've offered them. And then they show up once every other week or so and complain that they feel left out because no one's interacting with them or they don't know what's going on.

I'll be honest, I do not get your mentality. Being in a RP group is a 2-way relationship. It's hard for us to RP with you if you don't put that much effort into RPing with us.
  3. Y'know it's the RP VGs that have all the fun.

So who's winning? Team Waaa-you-can't-tell-me-what-to-say or Team Have-some-common-courtesy?

ERPvP?! Oh god... there goes my blissful obliviousness on the existence of that.

Reminds me of a stand-up routine though. The comedian was talking about wearing a cross as a sign of your faith in regards to Jesus and all that. Just imagine Jesus actually coming -back- and he sees all these people walking around with a reminder of the thing he was nailed to and died on. Be like giving a sniper rifle pendant to Jackie Kennedy.

-Any- ads would help, current players can only provide so much word-of-mouth for the game.

And getting game review sites to update the information they have sounds good too. How CoH and CoV have been combined, Power Customization, AE, all the Boosters, etc, etc.

Getting a prime time network ad might be out of the question, but there's also G4, Cartoon Network, Boomerang!, Syfy, and Spike, among others. And I don't even watch much TV. Given the option, I'd rather be playing a video game.

Sure Marvel and DC are the Big Two for superheroes with their own impending MMOs, but they carry ads for the competition all the time. There's also Image, Dark Horse, IDW, and BOOM! too, among others.

And with things like the Natural/Ninja Booster, and the impending Kinetic Melee, why not put an ad focusing on that in anime and manga sites/magazines?

I'd also be game for a street team. Provide some sort of promo material that could be handed out at smaller conventions.

And for the in-game billboards, I think it's a grand idea. Hasn't been implemented so well to this point though. Showing ads for high-end sneakers to MMO players? Really?! What about food, electronics, movies, and music, that sort of stuff? And getting stylized ads in CoV with graphitti or Arachnos propaganda plastered in the corner would be even cooler, but aren't some companies picky about how their product gets shown? Granted a Burger King hamburger is a bit different from the cars that various companies don't want to be shown as damaged in racing games, but still, big companies can be silly.
  9. I'll bite.

Are there any particular advertising venues you guys (erm, or is it just you?) plan on targeting in the near future?

There were ads in comic books during the initial release of the game, and I think around the release of City of Villains, but we haven't seen much of anything since. Will there be any more ads put in comics for Going Rogue? And on that note, why not, y'know, continuously advertise in comics?

And what about an actual TV commercial? Those "I'm a hero! I'm a villain!" skits seemed like a good start even if they needed to be trimmed down to fit the available time.

Not Marvel's Thor....the mythological Norse deity Thor, who has existed in legend since at least 1200 years before there even WAS such a thing as a trademark. Marvel has a trademark on his appearance, but there is NO WAY they can claim he is an original creation of theirs.

The name is completely blocked from anyone using it. Not taken, but actually blocked. If you try to use a name that someone else already hasthe message says "That character name is already in use". If the name is blocked the message says "That character name is unavailable"

There are a lot of things that shouldn't get genericed, but they do. Marvel wouldn't have a leg to stand on in a suit claiming that they own te name Thor, but NCSoft behaves as though they do.
Marvel has a claim on -their- version of Thor as depicted in Marvel comics, especially in his long blonde haired classic and current costumes. Marvel can't do jack about anyone else using Thor in another manner. I couldn't tell you NCSoft's position on the matter though other than it's probably closer to "better safe than sorry."
  11. More level 1 auras please.

    More combat activated auras.

Bracers. We need a middle ground between the option to color tights to look like it, and the 3 inch thick model we've hand from day one. Something like what Hero 1 has in the new hero cape mission.

More non-painted on masks like the Skull Mask in from the Magic Booster. Clown masks, goalie masks, human skull masks, etc, etc.

A tights pattern that's the Square Top without the !@$#&%^*@@^$ bands over the biceps.

And I know it'll never happen, but just for the sake of saying it, full length dresses, robes, and buttoned up Matrix style trenchoats.

So that's what the jelly bean thing was? I tend to joke about having cookies and pie when forming mish teams, I didn't know if jelly beans were another code or someone just doing what I do.

The people who are -still- trying to exploit AE to get any possible rewards it could give nerfed into oblivion have gotten a -lot- quieter. During the Rikti Comm Farm explosion, people were spamming anything and everything in broadcast. Now, not so much. The biggest clue any more, Redside at least, are the level 30 plus characters "lft" in Cap.
  13. Seen more "Dark Energy Brute" types names than I'd like to admit.

My current favorite is DEATHS PRETOCESSOR. Who was also level 40 with Group Fly, no AE badges, and no idea what a Mayhem mission was.

Basically, Avatar:TLA ties elemental control into various martial arts, and the practice is called bending. As has been mentioned on the forums here, Kinetic Melee looks a lot like the air bending technique.
  15. Just looked at the Demon Summoning teaser.

Anyone else see that, especially since they do base the mystical arts in that on real world martial arts (and air bending is based on Tai Chi IRC).
And now all the Aang clones can keep the Naruto ninjas company. *shrug*

Jury's still out, but zounds, those animation times are long. Maybe they're going back to the "slower and stronger" attack concept?

    SS/WP build help

Never actually used Mids, but I can't access it while at work anyway. >.>

Can I get something that can be viewed in the forums here?
  18. Wee bit of an alt-oholic here too. I'm primarily Redside, and my 2 current characters-of-the-month are Ahreman the Red and the Black Reckoner. My "main" and forum namesake has two versions; Agonus (Dom) and Lord Agonus (MM). Agonus is also the reason why some players call me Aggy. All characters mentioned are RP heavy, feel free to approach for teh arrpeez if you ever see me.

    SS/WP build help

Hehe. Whoops. Knew I forgot to mention something. The build is currently IO sets in the offensive slotting, and generic IOs in the defensive slotting. (Flight for Travel, and Mu as PPP.) I have no idea what it's worth. Sitting on sets of Mako's Bite, 2 Crushing Impact, Scirocco's Dervish, Red Fortune, 2 Imp Armor, Efficacy Adaptor, Luck of the Gambler, Mocking Beratement and Perfect Zinger. I meant to say the 50 mill figure is to start filling in the gaps. Does that help any?

    SS/WP build help

Got a lvl 50 ready for a respec. Looking for build advice for PVE, with a focus on HP and regen, with a 50 mill-ish budget. A listing that could be read here on the forums would be really nifty too. Many thanks in advance.

Count me in for that as well.

    Also-
Will we ever get any new Strike Forces for the villains?

And on that note, during co-op TFs will villains and heroes ever be able to trade items like inspirations?
  22. Dual Shields.

    Dual Assault Rifles.

    Female Mastermind pets.

Grappling. Which is apparently unpossible in the game engine.

WoW is the mmo for when you have the free time. The endgame requires dedicating four hours a day, three times a week (that's a casual raiding guild, the hardcore ones are six days a week) plus you then have to grind gold in order to buy all the best stuff (potions etc.) for the upcoming raids. So you're looking at putting in a minimum of 16 hours (12 to raid, 4 for gold grind) a week to have a chance at maybe getting something epic for your character...

You really do need to dedicate a lot of time to WoW to get the most out of it. City of Heroes, by comparrison, is very casual (despite what the old 'elite' say about modern WoW being "like so casual it sucks, anybody can get epics, phft...stupid welfare epics, you don't deserve them, back in my day epic meant something!") and appeals to those whose time is a bit more restrictive.
That's another thing. Back when I was playing SWG pre-NGE, the biggest complaint about CoH, (other than the repetitive grind) was that it was a casual MMO, and not as immersive as other games. Granted a lot of options have been added since, but I've been here pretty solidly for the last 2 years so I'm out of the loop. Does the MMO community still brush off CHV as a casual, easy MMO? There was the AE backlash post the Rikti Comm Farms nerf, but what's the current opinion of the game from those that don't play?

EVE really has that many players?! This is the "spreadsheets online" game, right?

Outside of bajillions for advertising (dream on), I have no idea how they could swing that sort of interest though.
I look at it this way.
A lot of people play video games, but only some video game players play MMOs. (Niche 1)
A lot of people play MMOs, but only some MMO players will try a superhero MMO. (More specialized niche 2)
Of the players who will try a superhero MMO, only some of them will try a completely unknown property like City of Heroes. (Even more specialized niche 3)

And for that matter, superhero comics, the stuff all this material is based off of, only sell moderately well in the US. Sure Warner Bros plans on using DC superhero movies to take the place of Harry Potter, and Marvel has all their Avengers movies in the works, but there are still a lot of folks who expect the general public to turn against the movies, like any minute now. Especially once/if all the B, C, and D list character movies start hitting theatres.

Don't get me wrong, I for one would love to see high quality superhero movies become a staple of American pop culture, but I'm not holding my breathe on that.
