  1. I just thought I'd put in my bit:

I have to say I agree with Fosca's original post. I can't say that I 'announce' my presence in the zone, but if I do run into a villain, I'll probably ensure that they're not going to mistake my presence for PVP.

A *lot* of the time I find myself working in tandem with a villian in RV to clear pillboxes. Just because you see a villain, or they shoot you, doesn't mean everything is now PVP - they may just be concerned that you're there to stop their badge-work. That's what I've found a *lot* of the time.

Of course, there are many other times when I go into the zone for a bit, and get mashed repeatedly by a stalker. Yes, it's frustrating, and yes, it's possible that the OP had a point - there are little rewards for killing l'il old me 100 times in ten mins (no GG, this HASN'T actually happened - I'm exaggerating to make a point) and it may feel like harassment. Sometimes I check to see if they would let me be - sometimes you get the 'it's a PVP zone' response, to which I reply 'that's fair, I was just checking!', and other times they let me go about my business after the first kill. People aren't *that* uncivil, and as long as you accept that they *can* mash you as much as they want, then you can just get on with other things in game - the CoH world is certainly big enough to keep you busy!

I think it was Coin that said 'I vote with my feet and leave the zone' - that, I agree with. The data-mining that the devs to to see which zones are used and how much, is how they work out what needs changing. PVP zones are no different. Since I'm not a huge PVP-er, I only go to the zones for the badges - once I've gotten the last pillbox badge in RV and the final 400 rep badge (probably from farming friendly heroes in WB) then I'm done with PVP zones. However, I understand the risk that is involved going into them - as GG said in her post. It's truly a 'HAZARD' zone, and if you feel you are going to get knocked about, go prepared. Temp Power Buffs from base? Inspirations? Temp powers in the SC entrance? They are all there to help you out. If you fly in there without any kind of protection, and you get squished by a PVP veteran - well, that wasn't very good 'hero' thinking.

It's a game. An MMORPG. The 'RPG' is the bit people overlook. If I were my character, and I needed to go to RV for whatever reason, I would KNOW of its reputation, as we do here. I would KNOW of the risk of getting overrun by villains, as we do here. I would take it all into account, and I would choose. If it didn't seem worth it, I wouldn't go. What happens in PVP may seem ... 'harsh', but as many of you have said - you are 'villains'. In my semi-rpg'd mind, I simply say "Well, he's a psycho that goes around beating up heroes" - I don't attribute it to the player, I just place it on the character. It just makes it a bit more 'real'. For the heroes that smash villains over and over again - well, it may seem extreme, but as any good 21st century 'hero', I turn a blind eye to that since it does me no harm.

Of course, that's all just my opinion.
  2. >Is it me, or have the fixed the work bench bug?

Yeah, it's annoying - you can't keep it open indefinitely. Mind you, you can sometimes keep it open for a fair bit of time after the table explodes. Question: Does it really *need* to explode? lol

    >It does (or did before i11, not sure since then) count when converting base salvage to components.

Where there changes to crafting in I11? I'm paranoid that using a portable invention worktable to turn invention salvage into component salvage won't count.

Or, perhaps I'm impatient? 10,000 might just be a few hundred more away...
  3. 1) Spiders In the night - Ozzy Osborn

I remember reading up about the CoV expansion way back around Issue 7, and there was a page all about PVP zones and Arachnos, with the lyrics to this song in italics at the top. I loved it, got the song - and it became the track that I listened to whilst I was patrolling Siren's Call fighting Toxic Tarantulas (now *that* badge took a while!)

    2) Voodoo Child - Rogue Traders

This was, in my opinion, the 'official' track for the Rikti Mothership Raids, when that issue went live. I remember when there were about fifty heroes/villains all standing in the very centre of the ship, waiting for the GM's hordes to show up, and as they did, several people would shout out "Here come the drums!". It was a damn fine track for that battle - it matched the intensity perfectly.

    3) Monster - The Automatics

I remember first having this on as I *accidently* caused a giant Malta GM to appear in Steel Canyon, whilst loads of low-levellers were standing around by Positron. It *was* actually an accident! I play this whenever I go GM-hunting, or on BIG boss battles. It works really well - especially if the boss is ACTUALLY OVER A HILL!
  4. Typo.Long day at work. Should have read 'are NOW a vet reward'.
  5. Well, simple solution.

These pre-order helmets are not a Vet reward. I'm happy that this threads get listened to by the devs, and this is what I was hoping for. In time - a complete wardrobe of available costume pieces.

    Thanks Devs )
  6. Sounds good for small rooms, I suppose. Thanks!
  7. You do realise that the tech one *isn't* a Gargyle, right?

I'll give it a test. I assume, since it's a defence item, it takes up your turret count?
  8. So it's a ceiling item? Like an immobile shield generator for people rather than items?
  9. On the basic worktable, you can create a defence aux item called an ENERGY SHIELD. This can be attached to most turrets, providing +DEF for 1,000 prestige.

However, from the basic defence items menu in the base items list, you can build a FORCE FIELD for 50,000 - but it is not clear what it attaches to.

What is a FORCE FIELD for? What does it attach to? Is it significantly differnet to an ENERGY SHIELD?
  10. My base has been ready for base raids, COP - hell, ANYTHING, for quite a while. Grated, there's always upgrades to be performed - but something to work towards would be nice
  11. I hoped they would add the pre-order villain helmets to the VET rewards - and they did.

    I'm happy. No complaints here.

    Rent

How often does it say "You owe X amount"? Is that the two week or four week notice?
  13. WinterFlare

    Rent

My mind's gone blank - can someone remind me how often we get charged base rent?
  14. I'd be interested, Claw. I still need to take down good ol'Recluse in order to get an SG badge.
  15. Yeah. The holodisplay. Pretty in a control room, but pointless against an Advanced Database. Go figure.
  16. I like the images, SheRock. We have the same concept for our Generator room!

I love the University / Library. I was amazed how well you got the posters to sit in the wall texture!
  17. I'm liking the 'Tomb Raider' style - very nice.
  18. That shrine room is beautiful, and I like what you've done with the workshop!

    Elite Igniter

Note to self - get scorpion turret

    Elite Igniter

But what I meant was, is Scorpion's Surprise a 'suped-up' flamethrower, or does it do some other kind of damage?

    So...no one knows, then?
  22. " He he. We're boys, decoration is difficult for us to understand. This is one of the reasons I wanted to see more bases, so I can get some ideas for decorating. There is also the fact that as we're down to three players it's all we can do to keep paying the rent. Times are hard."

I think you've found your solution...
  23. Love the bowling alley!

And it's definitely time for me to start experimenting with levels! On the latest podcast, I'm sure War Witch mentioned an SG base with 'three or more floors'. Time to try!
  24. Forseti - I love the reading longue. You should've patented the style before the Midnight Squad's shack was built - they stole your ideas!

I really like the idea of your themed rooms. It certainly turns a large base into an 'origin friendly' environment. I wouldn't do it, but I like the way you have!

My favourite rooms in your base are you workshop - love the levels and the way the inspiration holders are on higher levels with crafting tables in between. I also really like your meeting room. The two smaller tables with the speech point at the front on a raise platform works well. I may use the idea to do something similar, but I was hoping the create something more similar to the briefing hall / lecture theatre approach used in the Vanguard base in RWZ.

LeighB - I really like what you did with the lights on the walls to make arrows and symbols! I'd never even thought of something like that before! Again, not an idea I would use in my current base, but certainly something I will keep in mind!!!
