  1. Apologies for very briefly hijacking the thread but if I may ask a quick question about Superior Invisibility. Am I to understand you can do "normal" things with it active? i.e. With normal invisibility (power pool) you cannot attack or effect anything other than yourself. Am I right though (based on what has been said) that with Superior Invisibility I can attack mobs? summon pets? buff pets? run other toggles with effect things? etc etc? or any combination of those? Very interested to know this as will greatly effect my ill/rad build.
  2. I have to agree with coffee about the AS/Fly point he made. I find AS very useful and I can combo it with haymaker and KB (when available) to take down a boss without getting hit myself.

    However, if you decide to stick with Super Jump take the def buffs out of combat jumpnig, the defense it provides is too small for it to be worthing slotting, use slots somewhere else, 3 more slots in Foot Stomp for example Its the only AoE damage move you have so slot it
  3. From SS I'd say your "must haves" are:

    Jab -- You have to
    Haymaker -- Nice damage, will be part of your attack chain.
    Taunt -- Obvious as your build suggests you want to be a meat shield. I'd put a recharge in it as well if you can spare it.
    Knockout Blow -- The best single target attack you have, long animation but worth it, also has knockup. 6 slot it.
    Rage -- 3 Recharge I think :/ you can have it perma. Be warned of the 10 second downtime but *generally* you are ok.
    Foot Stomp -- I don't have this yet, but i've seen it in action and its the reason I started an inv/SS tank I can't wait for it and i'm probably going to slot it 3dam, 2acc, 1recharge

    I have Hand Clap at the moment for it is useful in certain occasions. I wouldn't take it at 49, by then you'll have adapted to not using it so it'll be useless unless its a fun power.

    Other main thing is your resist elements and resist energies. There's many different opinions about this. Elements is very useful for CoT in the 30's as they get fire attacks. Energies is useful for rikti although be warned they have psi energy in their attacks also (hand clap is useful).

    If you choose to take both of these, take them earlier if possible. As with hand clap if you've gotten into the 40's without them then they'll make little difference when you get there. Remember you can always pick one of them up (i.e. Res energies) when you need it then respec it out later once you don't meet many more of that enemy. Just a thought.

    This is my final build so far which I've taken from all your advice and some personal choices of my own. Obviously this is just a build and i'm likely to changes things as I play through and I find what works and what doesn't. For the moment I find this is good in theory and you guys have said and agreed at least that I've got the *core* powers from the sets which I can't complain about.

    I think Gonk has an MA/DA... seem to remember teaming with him. Either way Blaze is quite correct. Regen is deadly and i've recently rolled an MA/Regen myself and am enjoying playing it very much. Unfortuately with scrappers you don't have much choice with secondaries. I know most take regen and imo its easily the best in the set with DA second (i think) mainly for its psy res and a couple of other unique powers. inv I'm not too keen on as a scrapper, never sure why just doesn't gel for me :/ and SR is a good set I just can never get into it (stuck at lvl16 with BS/SR lol), although Elude is worth the wait and is incredible.

    I'd say roll the character a few times just to see which of the beginning powers you like. It isn't always accurate but it can sometimes help you a little in making your decision i.e. You may like regen as it only has 1 toggle (i think), or you may like DA as you're shrouded in darkness, you may like inv for being so shiny or you may like SR for looking relativly normal despite toggles running (concept idea maybe).

    Deepest Apologies for the glaring mistake, although in my defense my hero planner did not mention anything about -regen..... merely -recharge and slow :/ So I wasn't sure about it.

    I heard a while back that you could create heros on the test server at any level you wish so that you can check out builds and whatnot, is this still available? Or did i dream it all? If its available, how would I be able to do so...?

    So, I need help Had a lookie on some guides, not sure whether they were dated or not. Also took some common sense and hopefully put that in there somewhere as well. However I know next to nothing personally about the illusion or radiation sets so calling in all the experts hehe.

    As always, ignore When i've put slots it, it has been as and when i've thought about it. However some of the last slots were because I didn't know what to slot so there are some spares floating around. I wasn't so sure about deceive, put it in on purely my friends advice :/

  11. Please Please lose flares, its an awful power. Long animation time in which you can use fire blast and some other power. And as said at 35 there are Much Much better powers available.

    I'm sure most people who read this will have had the experience of teaming with a blaster who loves to lie down, face first after a battle.

    But the other day I was doing an SG TF and a random blaster sees us gathering at the contact, and asks if he can join us.

    In all my time here I've never seen a blaster who loved to die so much!
    He'd happily agro'd mobs, die, get rezzed and run off to the next mob, usually dying before the defender's Rez had recharged. He didn't seem to mind this. I think he felt guilty rather than resentful. Coz when a highly strung tanker quit the team in disgust (coz he'd died), the blaster asked "Was that my fault? Do you want me to leave?"
    Naturally I said no, unless he was the one who killed the tank. As it was a PvE mission he stayed.

    So by the end of the TF, the defender had spotted this pattern and would wait till someone else had died and use their AoE rez to catch the blaster and the other person at the same time. So he spent a lot of time lying around. Probably saved him from a lot of extra debt.

    My question is, is it wrong that I found this sooo funny?
    I mean a bad Tank, say not taunting, or a bad empath who won't heal, is costing the team dearly.
    But a blaster who just gets themselves killed is no skin off my nose. Luckily the team was good quality, in the main, so we could handle playing with one man dead. The mobs were no trouble.

    I was putting a team together to fight Adamastor last night when I saw this blaster's name on my search list. I invited him simply because I knew he'd run off and do something daft and get himself killed. Great value entertainment.

    He arrived in DA, the defender TP'd him to us, and the first thing he did was fire a sniper attack at the GM!
    A tank in the group pulled the GM off him, so he ran back in and punched Adamastor!
    Poor, poor man.

    I'm slightly ashamed to say that I'd team with him any time just to laugh at this strange player. We did try explaining to him what he's doing wrong, but he got quite upset and thought we were being overly critical, so we left him alone...

    Oh well. We get all sorts.

    From the sounds of it, nothing was wrong there, moreover, it sounds like everything was just right. Read though before you judge hehe.

    The blaster seemed to be enjoying himself, despite dying. If he wasn't enjoying himself I would doubt he would have stayed playing. 1 Tick for blaster enjoyment.

    From what you've said it doesn't appear that he endangered the team much or at all and his actions did not get any other member of the team killed, thus: 1 Tick for non-agro-team-magnet-full-faceplant er yea....

    Finally, you enjoyed watching him faceplant everywhere and it made you laugh and enjoy yourself + the added bonus of a successful team. 1 Tick for your enjoyment. 1 Tick for successful team.

    If you ask me we should all be so lucky to be in groups like that.


    Oh and in addition, Faulty, zoot rules :P
  15. Doesn't sound like a half bad idea, something along the lines of:

    2 ice patches
    2 CE's
    Rain of Fire - You
    Combustion - Tank
    Fire Sword Circle - Tank
    Fireball - You
    FireBreath(when positioned correctly) - You

    This could have some devistating effects.

    Fire Blast, Blaze and Ice Sword to finish up or to finish Bosses (greater fire sword for the tank at higher levels).

    As a side note, CE very good in pvp but be careful about agro in pve as some have previously stated.

    Can't think any more off the top of my head.

    Ok, build i've just done for Fire/Kin. Used Fire epic as at least I know the powers well (hehe blaster) and I can see how good they'd be with containment. Ignore the numbering of the slots I put them in as and when.

  18. Ah thanks I think i've got a nice build, putting in slots now. The epics still a little confusing though as they have quite different ones to other AT's (im a newbie to controllers remember hehe).

    So epics then. Why is earth not good? I just thought a self heal, ranged attack (+containment) and a pbaoe knockback + disorient could be quite good?

    Thats a quick Fire/Kin build i've made.

    I'm liking the looks of both of them, not sure entirely which one to use. Now I know someone will quote my earlier post about my laziness for kinetics and despite that being quite true my statement was based on a team saying "come on speeeedd booooooooooooost" and such a like so I don't think that should be my reasoning for not choosing a power set.

    Slotting i'm going to worry about later, this is mainly power set and power placement.

  20. Lol. Well I can't start this controller until I come back in the summer or until my uni does something about opening the ports needed for coh. So i've got plenty of time to get a good build for one.

    Anyone got ideas for must have fire powers? Then I can start up a make-shift build.
  21. You got any ideas on what are the key powers to take in each set i.e. must haves ?
  22. How good is Choking Cloud because i've been looking at some of the powers and toggles I get with fire/rad and it seems like endurance is going to be a large problem with Choking Cloud draining about 4 end per second and Hot Feet draining around 2 end per second. Plus the other rad toggles :/

    Anyone know a way around this? Or preferences on which powers to take?
  23. Never tried a controller before so thought I would start one when I have access to coh again.

    Since I started with a fire blaster i've decided on fire primary (plus I know some of the powers already which should make it easier)

    In terms of secondary I thought about Storm, Rad and Kinetics. Not sure about kinetics because I'm lazy and the set is mostly single target requires me to be proactive.

    This leaves Storm and Rad and I was hoping you guys could give me some advantages and disadvantages of each. Maybe a few choice powers.
