Quote:What? You mean like this one sitting here on my hard drive?Great work again Zloth.
Now, if only you could create another version that will read the Test installation settings.
Do you think it would really help people much? It seems like something that would just confuse more than help here in this topic. It might be handy for bug reporting, though. Hmmm..... -
Glad to have helped with your Anarchy Online presets. May the leets never bite you.

OK, it's working now.
I really can't deal with the shader level thing until I know what the values are supposed to be. Mine says High and is 3. Others are High with it only 2.

Dang ambient occlusion. Looks like they wanted to do that as a slider then decided against it. Fixing.... -

GHA! I pull in all the ambient settings but I neglected to actually add them to the forum report. DOH! Thanks Zombie! Fixing... -
If it says the C drive is full then maybe it really is full. Why not go in and look? Maybe some program freaked out and filled the temp directories up. Maybe he installed more than you think. Maybe it's a small SSD drive. <shrug>

I've updated the CoH Helper program to include the new Ultra stuff.
There are some mysteries. First of all, the old Shaders setting has been changed. The game isn't letting me change the value, though, so I only know that "High" is now 3. I expect other values are forcing this one now, so maybe it isn't as important as before. Also, the refresh rate now seems to be stuck at 0 and I only have one option when I'm in the game, so that may no longer be a setting the game actually looks at.
Also note that Windows version. Windows 7 is really Windows 6.1! Sneaky Microsoft!
I don't know how much more I'll do on this program. I've been fading out of City of Heroes lately. Plus I wrote this program back when I was unemployed and trying to give myself C# experience. I'm mostly a VB.Net programmer (and found a job continuing in the holy language ) so now reading my own program is a pain in the tail.
Somebody really should pick up the ball on this program. It's listed as version 0.something for good reason - there's a lot of stuff it's supposed to do that isn't written. Like pinging the server and letting you change some of the vital settings (like whether the game plays in a window or full screen).
Anyway, here's a sample output:

I've got the same problem but only with the production version. The test version still doesn't disable Aero!
-
They've done this kind of thing before, actually. It lets them see lots of characters from before the patch log in. If there's something buggy or slow in the update-from-I16 routines then this should catch the problem. (Heaven only knows how they can fix it before Wednesday, though.)
-
Pick up the torch? Surely we are mature enough to police ourselves now, right?
Sorry to see you go, Niv! See you "out there"! -
Quote:I don't think they have ever said. Even for the very first beta of the game, they took great pains to say that anyone with an active forum account was eligable and that post count wouldn't buy you anything. These days it is anybody with a game account. The details of how they decide have always been kept private except for special promotions (like the Loyaltiy program and like pre-ordering the game back in the original beta).
This --> Seeking developer confirmation (one way or another)OR a link to a quote from a developer concerning the current incarnation of the closed beta and the specifics of who will be participating in said incarnation of the current closed beta. A time-frame would also be helpful (e.g. if there are stages such as: In House> Devs and Family> Vets> etc.) -
Quote:Not so, Ocho. The updater itself is now set up so it requires you to run it as an administrator so renaming it back to CohStarter now pointless. (The new updater also forces Areo to turn off while CoH is running and - thank the maker - is finally being signed by NCSoft.)It's a pretty easy fix once you know the problem. This is only for folks with Vista+ who have renamed the updater to avoid the Admin prompt.
1. Open your game directory. (Just right click on your shortcut and pick 'open file location.')
2. Rename your file back to CohUpdater.exe.
3. There will be a .prv file in the directory with the name you used for CohUpdater. Delete it.
4. Run CohUpdater.exe directly. Enter your admin password and let the updater start up.
5. Don't bother starting the game, just quit.
6. Rename your CohUpdater.exe back to something else, like CohStarter.exe.
That's it.
Because we are now forced to run as administrators, we now have to re-do all the settings that are saved in the registry. That's not as bad as it once was now that we can load from settings files but it is still a pain.
We could also bypass the updater by using the -project coh trick, just running the updater when the game complains about being the wrong version. That could cause problems if the game itself really IS going to need to be run as an admin, though. Since nobody seems to have told the community reps that this even happened, I guess we are on our own to guess the reasons why it happened. -
It's your PC. Your PC is trying to give you a blue screen to tell you what is wrong but, by default, Windows will just restart instead. You need to check your computer properties and tell Windows NOT to restart when it gets an error. The blue screen of death will tell you what file (most likely a driver) is causing the problem. You might also want to check your event log (configuration panel, admin tools, event log) to see if it has anything interesting to say after a crash.
-
I don't really have time to read this whole topic but I can assure you that Paragon Studios HAS been looking into this. In at least one of the beta tests (early last year or late 2008 I think), we ran through the ITF to see if the fix helped anything. Obviously it didn't work out.
Maybe the Ultimate patch will steamroll over this bug. Maybe not. We'll just have to wait and see. -
Hehe, when the Tell beep played I looked down where my chat window would be.
-
Uhhh, I think you wanted the comics and culture forum.
-
Screenshots? How 2005.
Here's a couple of quick videos I took after the first bump to the 30's. A quick one that includes the good old "stick your gun in his chest and fire" move and a longer one with more action.
(And yes, Dragon Age is great for screenshots! Though you will want to take a video of an older couple that finds a big hole in the ground...) -
In your City of Heroes directory you'll find a file called keybinds.txt. Open that up and look through it. You should find what the key combination is in there.
-
ROFL! Good stuff! The music really fits the game, too.
I remember getting out of a mission once with a ton of slow powers dumped on my sexy blond character. When I got out, I just had to "do the Baywatch thing" and run in slow-mo with a swimsuit on.
Edit: Just noticed Killbot's (I really have to log in more) and that's another good one. I noticed the D.E. zombies were cheering to the beat of the music!
P.S. If you folks are looking for free recording, WeGame and XFire both have good ones. -
Woo hoo! Another Boom-de-yadda! Filing it away for all time....
-
Quote:They actually said that!?!?
At that point, no amount of logging out/logging back in to force a 50 to the top and reset the mission will work, and the GM's won't help you (they just say it's "working as intended"). You're done. -
You're sounding a little Carl Sagan like with all those "billions"! Thanks for the info, though - especially the manufacturing issues. I keep wondering where the Hades the Fermi announcements are.
-
The goo has escaped from EVERY base all at once?? This can't be good...
