Quote:If by 'Think Ahead' you mean 'Have either Omniescent Knowledge or have to read up every detail of the arc before hand to have a chance' then yeah, I object to that. Understandably, I think.Well, go to hell with your go to hell with the no drop thing.
Seriously, do you not understand that some aspect of the game has to be challenging? Or perhaps, require you to think ahead?
And theres nothing I don't 'Understand', thank you very much. There is nothing challenging, I.E. something that requires tactical application, about zerg rushing Rikti.
For all this continous harping on about 'Use ST attacks' and 'Pull the EBs then!', believe you me, I tried. In my mission, however, the Rikti seemed determined to home in on me as soon as I came into LoS of them again. Meaning by the time I got in place to pull the Honoree, I was under attack from the 100+ horde already. I didn't get a god damn choice, capiche?
Thats not challenging. Its "Computer is a Cheating *******." I couldn't get to the Honoree without the Rikti attacking, and I simply couldn't put that many down due to my AoEs target cap being overwhelmed.
So, I have a mission that was not fun, frustrating and to a level that was, IMO, bugged. When my net dropped me, what did I do? Dropped it, like bugged missions are meant to be. -
Quote:Yeah, again, Go to Hell with the 'No Drop' thing. Seriously, do people not understand a game is meant to be fun? If people are dropping missions, it tend to be because they are the epitome of Not Fun, and sometimes bugged. My solution and suggestion to the devs is simple then!
MAKE SURE THIS MISSION CANNOT BE DROPPED!
Incarnate should be hard to become. I actually asked one friend and we duo-ed it on +1/x3 with AV's.
Also... we where both villain... we pulled two shivan's. And we both activated Demonic Aura. And then aggroed both AV's whahahahahahaaha... And won!
In my opinion, the RWZ was both. -
Quote:I'm very glad that your're not a Dev, then. Because that right there is honest to satan Emmertism. That's exactly how it should be weighed. None of those crappy arguments that got the devs to make the respec trial, cape mission, et. al. easier work here. This mission gives you access to the power level of the games signature hero and villain. It's quite literally a path to godhood. It should be harder. It should require you to do every mission instead of being able to auto-complete.
But in any event, it shouldn't see any changes to make it even slightly easier or as you would call it "less cheap." It's doable by any build with SOs. If the determinant beyond that is skill, then there is no problem.
"Hmm, how can we make this a challenge? Ah, yes; take all the fun out of it! That's a great plan!"
It's a game. A game people should enjoy playing. Not 'You are going to grind and suffer and like it.' Thats utter BS.
Hell, I wouldn't care if the Portals only spawned Rikti when the player was in range. Like, I dunno, EVERY other portal in game? Like the Behemoth ones.
As it is, they spew Rikti all the freaking time, to the point your swimming in a tide of them.
YES, I know I dont have to kill all the damn things! Get this; its kinda hard to pull an EB when even ST hitting him draws the whole mob that hes STOOD IN THE MIDDLE OF as well! Thats not skill based! Its the game literally cheating. End of. -
Quote:There wouldn't have beern any problem at all if the Portals had a capped number of Rikti they could spawn, or something. So don't upgrade your Bots, leaving them with their Single Target attacks. Their opening volley, from range, should disable one of the portals. Fall back, clean up the mobs that follow, rinse, lather, repeat. My Bots isn't up to 50 yet so I can't test this theory, but the portals went down with a single snipe so 6 bots should be able to remove it.
As it was, the time it took for me to defeat Holtz meant I was looking at upwards of 100+
That grins me nicely back to the targetting issue.
Again, it's not hard. It's just tedious and cheap. -
-
Quote:This requires on some conditions being meetable;I'm confused by the talk of endless no reward minions. They always stopped for me once I took out the portals.
1) Being able to target them through the mass of names
2) Being able to get near enough to fire
3) Being able to actually damage them due to all AoEs insta-hitting the target cap
4) Being able to live long enough under the onslaught of fire AND the angry EB punching you in the face.
And this is on a soft-capped to everything Bot/Traps MM with a welter-weight of IOs. My defences were simply facing THAT MUCH firepower that more shots were getting through than not. And I have never seen my AoEs hit the target cap before. -
-
Quote:And I would tell you to go to Hell in a handbasket.I like the Ramiel arc. However, in my complete a-hole moments (i.e. 92.45% of the time) I do wish the devs had made every mission in that arc non-droppable. I wouldn't even let you abandon it. You either get a team, succeed or be reminded of your failure until you do it.
*cackle* BWA HA HA HA HA!!!! *snort*
Getting zerged by infinite waves of rewardless Rikti minions after I had to beat down Holtz slowly thanks to her ****ing Curse? Yeah, screw that. It wasn't challenging, it wasn't fun, it was a case of I can't actually kill you all because my Bots AoEs are hitting the god damn target cap!! Oh, yes, and the Honoree can two shot me if he gets lucky vs my defences. Very plausible since he's an EB.
Fighting two EBs I can DEAL WITH. Thats fine, and also a decent challenge (even if Holtz's powers are immensely cheaty)
But those Portals are the biggest load of **** I have run into recently. And y'know what? I beat the mission. And then my net crashed when I was talking to the Honoree. You bet I was dropping that like a hot rock as soon as I logged back in! -
Quote:No. I, for one, am complaining that the only reason I 'failed' the one mission I did was because of a really cheap, cheaty mechanic, I.E. endless spawns of no reward minions.Wait...this thread is serious? People are complaining about the difficulty of an arc to start you on the path to semi-godhood? You think the incarnate stuff was going to be easier than other content? I didnt play this in beta and it took me one hospital trip on my low damage fortunata to figure out a new plan.
After that all my alts have breezed through...even my common IOed blaster....lower your settings or buy more insps, if you still cant complete, youre doing it wrong. Try something else.

Like I said, not fun, not really challenging. Just a massive Zerg Rush of Rikti that makes applying any type of tactics pretty damn pointless.
Put it this way; I shouldn't have to drop a mission because of how frustrating it was. After my net shafted me, no way in HELL I was putting up with Holtz's cheaty power array and that many damn Rikti again. Hell no.
Edit: Having read the post above me, I am literally only mad at the one RWZ mission. The other missions were characterful, well written and very fun (except for the dissapointment at the Pet No-Buff bug in the first mission)
But cheaty ammounts of portal minions does not a fun challenge make. -
Yeah, the sheer ammount of crap you have to do for the portable workbench is just...it...
Yeah. I'm gonna stop before I get started, or I'll be here all night. -
Yup, having done the Alpha slot mission, Alpha is having nothing to do with that particular arc IC.
He may well have semi-dealings with 'The Well' in future, even experimenting with Shards and suchnot in weapon and tech based form. Very much walking the 'slow but steady' path. Fortunately, being what he is, resisting the call will be very, very easy.
But, cool though the arc was (and so very flawed mechanically in several places, as people would have read...) it doesn't quite work IC for him

Quote:Y'think I'm an absolute spanner who didn't try that?/facepalm
It is easy for a master mind to manage. But you must manage your minions.
back in the piller room set your minions to a specific location in the room. Set the minions to passive/defend. Move forward just to the edge of range and pull one of the two EB's. Retreat back to your minions. When the EB comes into range you can switch them to attack.
The key is to never let your minions get near the rikti room.
The only reason I wasn't getting peeled off the walls when I tried that with the Honoree is due to having some big heals in my insp tray and blind luck that I was hovering backwards when he stunned me so that I drifted out of LoS.
Theres nothing tactical about that room. Its just the Rikti equivelant of a Zerg Rush. And Holtz is just a freaking filthy cheater. AoE grenades that can one shot minions. A ranged Psi Nuke. The mother ****ing curse of mother ****ing weariness (I despise and loathe that power).
Like I said, it wasn't challenging. Challenging is the LRSF which requires tactical planning ad maneuvering.
That? That was "Computer is a cheating *******" syndrome. -
Quote:I managed to aggro the first EB and draw her out of the mob.Actually this mission is pathetically easy to do once you figure it out.
There are only 2 foes in the end room you need to fight at all. Use any ranged ability to pull one of them out of the swarm and defeat that one fighting well away from the crowd. Repeat for the other one and you are done with it.
IGNORE THE HUGE CROWD OF RIKTI THEY ARE JUST A DISTRACTION!
That...woman has so many cheaty powers its unbelievable. Not to mention that asdjahfgag curse. I HATE the god damn Curse of Weariness. If ever there was power that was Not Fun its that one.
So, by the time I'd finally dragged her down and beaten her to pulp?
The end room was COVERED in Rikti.
I'm a Bots/Traps MM. Ignoring them is not physiucally possible when one shot of AoE Aggroes the whole damn lot!
The mission is NOT hard. It IS stupidly bloody cheap. It just uses cheap, overwhelming ammounts of minions (who give no inf or prestige. An extra kick in the fork) to drag it out and make it really. Damn. Frustrating.
And god help you if your net dies when talking to the second downed EB.... -
I will very partially agree with the 'Dislike' part here, having now done the Alpha Slot arc.
All I can say is;
****. You. Unlimited. Rikti. Portal mobs.
Go die in a freaking hole!
I genuinely hated that mission by the end of it. And I was spitting incadescent rage when my net dropped me while talking to the second EB
I r NOT amused.... -
Ok, I take it back.
This is for whatever wiseass decided that unlimited minion spawns in a HUGE mob was a fun idea;
YOU *******!!
I'm sorry, but go to hell! That was not fun, that was the biggest, steaming pile of 'The Computer is a Cheating ******!' I've yet to run into.
And, y'know what? I STILL beat both EBs. And then what does my internet do? IT DC'S BEFORE I CAN FINISH THE DAMN MISSION!
/Autocomplete
Thanks for not letting us EU players beta test due to the char transfer tool being shite again! Because I woulda had some god damn choice words to say abou that mission!

Quote:If there were to be any changes to Trip Mine in Devs, then they'd have to bloody leave well enough alone in Traps. Alpha managed to toe-bomb people LONG before he had IOs, solo and on teams.I mean no disrespect, Tech, but what you describe is only doable with Inventions, for the simple fact that Blasters don't have access to powers which can do that, and I've never been a fan of powers that only work well with Inventions, even if they weren't changed to that.
Right now, I dislike Trip Mines for two reasons:
1. Their original officially-stated design is like traps, set down either alone or in fields for enemies to run through after the fact. This is a design which is very rarely useful, and even more rarely useful as designed.
2. The notion of "toe bombing" with instant-detonation explosives - which is to say explosive which go off as you have your hand over them - is an example of exceedingly bad implementation. Even if they have to remain useful as in-combat direct-fire tools (which I think they should), Time Bombs still need to be deployable at range, so that you're not leaning over the thing when it goes off with an enemy in melee of you.
Time Bomb, amusingly, is far more "pretty" for toe bombing, since you can set it down, back away and even prime another attack to coincide, such as Full Auto or Long Range Missile Rocket, whereas Trip Mines blow up in your face.
I suggest reading the previous post I made in the thread about turning Trip Mine into a Proximity Grenade and see if you like that more.
Devs, as a whole, is a pretty so-so set, IMO. It could really use some TLC and overhauling, but wether it will ever get it is a whole other bobomb. Solo it works ok, to a point. Team wise it's kinda shoddy, though. -
Quote:No! NOnoNOnoNO!Time bomb really could use a manual activation :/
As for Trip Mine... I'd like to steal a leaf from Global Agenda's book. You throw it out (Caltrops animation), and it lays there, inert. As long as there's mobs within 7', it'll stay there. Once there's no mobs nearby, only then does the mine arm itself. You'd give up toebombing for quicker castttime.
[edit] Figured out a way to implement it.
The mine stays an intangible, untargettable pseudopet. It has two powers, Proximity and Arm.
Proximity is a 7' aura. As long as there's a hostile mob in the range, Proximity produces the effect Don't Arm, which locks out ("greys out") Arm. If there's no mob, Arm is available, and the pet can use it, losing Arm and instead gaining Explode.
[edit2] The second upgrade in Thugs has an animation that could be easily repurposed into a satchel charge toss.
Leave my god damn Trip Mines alone! Gorramn capes! -
Quote:You do realise that defence doesnt stop that, right? Just because they miss doesnt mean you dont get fury. It still counts as an attack, it just did 0 damage. And thus still builds fury.I'm not really hoping to be a tank, but since being attacked means Fury, I'm intending to get attacked as much as possible...which means I need to be able to survive getting attacked as much as possible.
I'm gonna give it a go (with War Mace as my primary) and see how it turns out.
Invuln is good all round, IMO. People seem to swear by WP, but its also a lot more temperamental. Its eitehr godly...or your muhcing floor every other spawn. Certainly until you get it IO tricked out. Invul? You have res. You have def. When all else fails, you have a chunky heal. Profit.
Combine that with Tough/Weave and IOs and its simply sick and wrong and, thus, awesome. -
