The Brute forum is actually the only AT board I've never been in but it's pretty easy to note that even without slotting you can get 67.5% damage resistance to fire.
@SupaFreak: A "true" threat assessment would be good in theory but is probably a calculation nightmare since it'll fluctuate massively due to a number of variables. -
Nah, noon is fine. I sort of have a politically incorrect comment about my being late. I'll err on the side of not posting it.
-
I'm needing to do a little research for a possible AE idea floating in my head. Unsure of what characters are mutants or what storylines go on about mutation. While it would be focused Primal Earth, I'm fine with any Praetorian examples. Off the top of my head I can think of:
- Outcasts
- The two hero origin contacts
- Captain Mako
- Sister Psyche
- Penny Preston
- Fusionette
- Devouring Earth. While CoH origin rules would consider most of them "Science" origin, they'll work
- The heroes you rescue in the Eden Trial
- A few members of the Civic Squad who are trying to stop Westin Phipps
-
I gotta ask, whatever happened to the Syndicate set? I was under the impression it was supposed to be part of the GR costumes but after some mention about something being off, it just sort of quietly disappeared. To my understanding it wasn't even a full set but still had a few pieces and patterns.

I'll volunteer to be ambassador for Triumph. Which means I need to not show up late.

Congrats!

Quote:I've been thinking, the push for getting 5 stars is a side effect of the simple and understandable desire to simply get plays at all. Even counting 5 star ratings, there's some really weird calculations going on for how the system chooses what arc comes sooner. The reason I gave up on creating AE arcs was absolute obscurity.
Quote:I also ran an Archnemesis campaign for a bit. I'd take the backstory for your toon and then create their Arch Nem and set up various missions for you. But the time involved combined with the thankless nature of some of the participants soured me on the concept. -
Well, I also think we were heavily subject to the number of lowbies on the team. Admittedly, it could stand some tweaks but that stood out after I put my foot in my mouth with "It's not that bad".
-
I have to wonder if the time itself is an issue. A number of people have expressed an inability to join due to the noon start time. It sort of heavily favors the East coast and even I tend to be late.
As far as multiple days a week, I think rather than having an official extra day, I think it would be better to stick with the setup we currently have but be more overt about using an extra day to pre-play an arc as a mini team and level lowbies. While it kills the surprise factor, it helps lessen the force multiplication of some enemies since we'll see them ahead of time.
While we should probably go back to Triumph at the end (beginning?) of each rotation, we should probably work towards setting up bases and storing goods on various servers for those who need it. Well, I know this has been done to some degree on some servers but we may need to plot it out a bit. -
It's only bad in the context of trying to make the entire group the same name. There are clever uses for it. It sounds like Everfree's plan to swap out an EB is a good idea. Also, it's a good way to get enemies with the same role but just have them look different.
-
Yes, you can. I might argue that it's not a good idea to do so but it's possible.
-
Ambushes can't be made required. However, you can chain spawn a boss in a different spot of the map. Generally works best if you have an escort since you can place the second boss at the beginning of the map. Takes a fair bit of testing and fine tuning to get right though.
Different enemies in an enemy group can have the same name as long as they have different file names. Generally you do something like name them Minion1, Minion2, etc and then once they're saved you go back in to each character and rename them as Minion, Minion, etc. -
I...think that actually would make me run in the opposite direction. I already somewhat dislike teaming with MMs and I figure that's going to be a ton of lag for me personally. And noise...because at least one person is going to pick Demons. I would be interested in seeing what challenges an all MM Sewer would present considering the stray aggro and limited navigation if someone opted to record it.
Besides, I don't even have any blueside MMs. -
I wonder, is there any chance we can find out the weekly guest the day before? I ask so that we can be better prepared to ask the proper questions. I thought of a few things to ask Protean but it wasn't until an hour after the Ustream.
-
Because I'm not sane enough to run in the opposite direction, doing this tomorrow at 4PM.

You may want to check audio settings since around the middle, the music starts to drown out your voice. Also, your link to Hellguard's music seems broken/incorrect. Otherwise it was a nice visual guide. Off the top of my head, I think you should have actually showed the button for setting an objective to not be required. Taking into account that this is aimed at beginners, those outside AE regulars actually may not know where to look.
-
It may be a different situation but the concept is probably worth paying attention too. Well, if it weren't for the whole policy about mentioning other games. I think an MMO by design fundamentally pushes people away from paying attention to the story, even if it were a player that would otherwise enjoy it. For quite a while I've been feeling that AE suffered because it got introduced to the wrong genre.
-
Quote:I have three questions about this other game:I play another game which also uses a 5 star system for player generated content, and for the most part people vote somewhat accurately there, so you know you're playing an OKish map if you pick a 3 stars one and a really, really good one if you pick a 4.5 stars one. Ratings are meaningless if everyone gets a 5, and players are the one who pay the price by having to wade through a bazillion bad arcs to get an actual good one.
- Is it actually an MMO?
- How large is the general number of plays/rates?
- Do the devs police it in any form?
The first two questions are the one's that interest me the most. I'll explain why after I find out your answers. -
Quote:To my understanding, the "please don't vote" is a holdover of people's fear about Positron's I14 speech. The "problem" is that the current farms aren't actually exploits so their probably all 100% safe. For what it is worth, most people that create farms that I know of, usually request that it not be voted. They dont want the publicity. As such, you are likely doing the majority a favor.
Quote:being a majority farmer myself, the couple farm mishs i made i literally dont care about their rating
the only arc i care about the rating on is my story arc
i usually get more runs on my farm mishs though and more poeple tend to rate those which means i actually net more tickets without doing anything, i havent had a run of my story arc in several months, but i get between 1-3 farm runs a day in author tickets -
Downrating without playing is something I'd consider bad. However, I do have a low opinion of farms within the AE. I dislike but don't mind those that are dev created. I'd also argue that farms are far more immune to negative ratings.
Well, I think the big million ticket question is, what exactly would be constructive and actually likely to work? SFMA and other tags have already failed. -
I think this is a major point that I don't think gets acknowledged nearly as much as it should be. I mean, it's why farms are simply able to do better if all other factors were equal. Story arcs have to fit so many different criteria for whether or not entirely different people view it as good. Farms just come down whether or not you got xp/tickets regardless of anything else with the design. This also affects advertising. With subjective views out of the way, it's pretty easy to just sit in Atlas and broadcast easy xp as opposed to looking for someone who has the same tastes in story and mission design.

Quote:I think shortsightedness seems to be a very large portion of the problem regardless of whether or not their views are sexist. It's bad they didn't give female characters coats (despite it being requested repeatedly) yet they also didn't give male characters the gloves or belt. I think they have a bad habit of being stuck with massive tunnel vision for viewing sets as a set as opposed to viewing them as individual pieces. There also seems to be a major problem of missing the "obvious". Let's take the Mutant pack. Many people made a point that claws would make more sense for someone who has mutated but a sword was chosen. That's fine since it was their design choice. However, it didn't make any sense that a sword was designed without taking into consideration Katana users. As I read more, I'll say both sides make a very good argument and i'll bow out myself and withdraw claims of sexism so much as a bit of shortsightedness on the developers' part.
Another major problem seems to be incredibly short testing periods that don't give enough time for the changes/fixes to be made while the pack is still on Test. Pretty sure these issues could be better addressed. I can point out how the Animal pack didn't get fixes until after release. As a counterpart, during the I15 open beta people commented on the color setup for Scientist Double. Jay took an impromptu poll and due to feedback it got adjusted before it went live which led to more options and even the devs using it themselves for the Praetorian university instructors. -
I'm curious to why you feel they aren't. They have limited levels, set goals, and numerous other things that make them like TFs. Plus, the respec trials were eligible.
Quote:We did Eden just last night (too late to change once the list was finally published) but I wouldn't mind running it again in a few weeks. It's awesome.
Sorry to derail my own thread but...
Does anyone know if 4 SO-slotted level 41ish characters can do Eden? We had 6 last night and it seemed like it took us forever to take out the Rock wall and we very nearly team-wiped fighting Titan. I can't imagine doing it with only 4 if they didn't have good IO sets that exemplared well to 41st. For one thing, I didn't see any difference between the size of the spawns with 6 and the spawns I've seen in the past with 8. -

Had a nice bit of discussion about things that can be done. Different people have different opinions on what is a good design and what isn't. It also pointed out that you need different variables to challenge different kinds of characters.
Could stand a little bumping since it's not really that old.
