Before I get into anything else, may I ask why this is limited to the tier I and II attacks? Those tend to be the weakest attacks in any given set. 30% of Jab's damage is almost nothing, even in the lower levels.

Why not just require a play ticket. Each play ticket is earned by doing a non-radio mission.
[/ QUOTE ]
This, I think, might be an interesting idea.
Do five missions, get five play tickets to do any five arcs you wanted to do. There are likely still some problems with this, but it would mean that people would need to get out of the MA building if they wanted to keep doing MA content, and would keep new players and characters from the MA until they had done some missions. -

I'd like to see a max xp cap on AE. That is to say, you can only get 125k to 1 million xp from it. That would place you at levels 20 to 30 if you started in AE. After that your character caps out and cannot earn any more xp from AE.
This would fix the AE baby problem and stop total powerleveling in AE completely. You have to go out and actually find full missions and learn to play your character.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, but that wouldn't be fair to the people who have been playing this game for a long time and only do the AE missions to enjoy new content.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why? They could still do the new content. They just would have to mix in regular content along the way. They could still be getting influence and tickets from the MA doing the new content. -

I remember in EQ there were different levels of RP that were permitted with some guidelines in the forums about what was and wasnt expected. Is that the case on Virtue and or Pinnacle?
[/ QUOTE ]
No. It's going to depend a little on the crowd that you hang out with, but I know of nowhere where there are hard and fast rules. -
First off, powers have base accuracy, no To-Hit. Players have To-Hit, powers have accuracy.
Most powers have an accuracy of 1, or 100%. Some powers go higher, some go lower. The player, against an even-level mob, has 75% base To-Hit. As such, a power with 100% accuracy has the following To-Hit formula:
Final To-Hit = [[Base To-Hit + To-Hit buffs - To-Hit debuffs - Defense] * (Accuracy + Accuracy Buffs - Accuracy Debuffs)]
In this case:
Final To-Hit = 0.75 * 1 = 75%
A power with 90% accuracy will calculate as such:
Final to-Hit = 0.75 * 0.90 = 67.5%
Against a +3 Mob, your ToHit is 48%. The formulas then become:
Final To-Hit = 0.48 * 1 = 48%
and
final ToHit = 0.48 * 0.90 = 43.2%
Slotting for 30% accuracy gives you the following against a +3 Mob:
Final To-Hit = 0.48 * (1 + 0.30) = 62.4%
and
Final To-Hit = 0.48 * (0.90 + 0.30) = 57.6% -

Most of these posts are kind of hypocritical.
Your mostly upset that players are now making the game easy on themselves by leveling up quickly in AE.
It's hypocritical because the real reason your upset is because you want to make the game easier by inviting players on your task force team that know what they're doing instead of just teaching someone how to play and informing them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait. What? We want to make the game easier because we expect a level 30+ character to know how to get around or find a mission? You know, like the basic stuff you learn in the tutorial?
Yes, heaven forbid we expect people to learn to play the game. Shame on us for wanting that.
We will teach them if we need to. The point was that there are a lot of people who aren't even bothering to teach themselves anything about the game. THAT is a bit of a problem. -
And since we're sharing some horror stories here, two from last night:
1) I get on a team there, as I'm trying to do some story-oriented AE stuff to no avail on my Defender. Team consists of two Blasters, a Scrapper, two Controllers, a Tanker, and myself, a Dark/Psy Defender. The two Controllers are a Kin and an Empath.
Team leader: we need a healer
Me: We've got myself and two controllers, I think we'll be okay.
Team leader: well, you're not a real healer, and the two controllers won't help that much
Me: We've got three people with heals. That won't be enough?
Team leader: I doubt it
Me: What are we going to be fighting?
Team leader: We're doing the Hami farm
Me: ...
Me: I think we'll be okay
At this point, while I would normally leave, I want to see how this train wreck will go. I convince the leader that we'll be okay, and we enter the mission. I summon Fluffy, and we start fighting.
Team leader: Wow, great heals! I guess I was wrong about you guys. My health bar barely even moves!
Me: None of us are healing you. Fluffy is, because he's an idiot and can't help it. You're not taking any damage.
Team leader: Really?
Me: Yes, these guys don't shoot you. You're at 100% health the entire time. Heals do nothing for you here.
Team leader: Just because they don't shoot you doesn't mean that you're not taking damage.
Me: ... <quit>
2) After that team, I go back out into the AE area, and broadcast that I'm looking for a team doing stuff where enemies shoot back. I get invite to the following team, with none of them over level 12, except for one blaster, who is level 34.
Me: So, what are we doing?
Leader: PP farm
Me (to self): fine, at least this takes some skill
Me: Okay. We may need a Tanker for this one (the one we have is level 9 and won't survive long).
Leader: He should be okay
Me: Are you sure? These guys hurt, and the Tanker isn't exactly sturdy at level 9.
Leader: He'll auto-sk and be alright.
We enter the mission, and before everyone is even in, the Tanker goes crashing into the first spawn, and promptly dies. The rest of us enter the fray, and I rez the Tanker. We fight off the first spawn alright.
Me: I don't think that the Tanker should take point here.
Leader: No, now that everyone is in, he'll be okay.
Me (to self): sigh
We go to the second spawn, and the Tanker goes in first, and dies, quickly.
Tanker: WTH? Why do I die so fast?
Leader: I'm not sure. You guys healing him?
Me: He's level 9! We can only heal him if he doesn't die before we get to him.
Me: Mind if I take point on a spawn? We can herd and it might be a little bit easier?
Leader: I guess so.
Me: Okay, I'm going to herd to here. Just wait for the enemies to come to us, and then we can fight them. Everyone got that?
Everyone: okay!
So, I lay down a tar patch, summon Fluffy, target a Mob, and hit him with Darkest Night, then retreat around the corner. As the enemies are coming to us, I see the entire team go careening around the corner charging at the enemy, at which point they all die one after another.
Me: Why didn't you guys let them come to us?
Team: What?
Me: I was herding them to us, why didn't you wait?
Team: Want to go fight Hamis? They don't hurt at all.
Me: sigh...<logs for dinner> -

The whole premise was wacked from the beginning...
AE Buildings should never have been about 'Entertainment'. Rather, they should have been seen as some sort of global mission control.
AE Missions should never have been thought of as simulations and that Teleport column should never have existed (except perhaps as a zoning tool, similiar to Ouro). The contacts for AE missions should actually be in zones, and you have to travel to them to start the mission. And you should enter the instances via doors, etc, in zones corresponding to the level of the missions.
This would have resolved *everything* while leaving what's good about MA (the creating of custom missions) intact.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with this a lot. I think that the main problem isn't that the AE is in Atlas, it's that you can just stay there forever and never have to leave.
When the system was first announced, I thought that it was going to be something where you could make or use contacts out in the world, and people could visit those contacts to get the AE missions. Not just stand in one place and do the same missions over and over again with no need to leave the building. -
[ QUOTE ]
I understand a few things here but whats wrong with the AH IO's and radio missions? Also you're gonna have a really horrible time once you hit Kings Row. How do you plan on getting contacts there exactly? Since I assume you won't be using and guides to check the badge unlocked contacts.
Power to you,. jsut seems that while you're ignoring a lot of frustrating parts you're also ignoring a lot of parts that made the game better.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are no badge unlocked contacts in CoH, only in CoV.
Yes, many of the new improvements made the game better. It doesn't mean that a lot of fun can be had playing it like it used to be, since it was still fun back then. -

Don't think we know yet.

(on a side note, someone pass the word to the devs to turn xp off in AE and make a bigger cap in tickets, plz. I hate the farms.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Not gonna happen. The AE was designed to be an alternate leveling path to the regular content, from level 1-50. You might see a reduction in XP, but it will never be removed. -

First off, may I ask why you break up your posts like you do? A period works just as well (if not better) than a full enter.
That said, they did put a lot of these in the game, in some shape or form. The original powersets in the Alpha only had about 4-5 powers in them. We now have nine in each set. As such, each set got more powers and possibly a name change, as so:
[ QUOTE ]
light control
[/ QUOTE ]
Became Illusion, IIRC. Basically, take all of the 'light' powers in the set (remove the pets and the single-target attack), and you get light control.
[ QUOTE ]
shape changing
[/ QUOTE ]
We eventually got this in the form of Kheldians. Other than that, shape changing caused some problems with other powers when the shape was changed. The engine had problems with them, so it was dropped until the bugs could be worked out.

super sight

Was found to be a very poor choice, since it did next to nothing in-game. Very genre-oriented, but once it was in game it did next to nothing, and so was changed and put into several different power sets.

Not sure about this one, but I'm pretty sure that this became Storm Summoning. Tornado, Gale, Hurricane, etc. were all once part of this set. -
Aggro cap is 17. A single character can hold the immediate attention of no more than 17 mobs. You can hold more aggro than that, but the mobs won't attack until an enemy is defeated and brings you down under the 17.
That could be what BI is seeing, or she's just not realizing that the Tanker or whoever doesn't have the aggro on a mob, then targets them with a large debuff/heal (Twilight Grasp is one of the largest value Debuff Mods out there, in regards to the threat formula. Howling Twilight is another one. In short: Dark Miasma is a threat fiend, but not because of the heal, but because of the crap ton of debuffs) and gets the aggro.
It has nothing to do with the heal, but with the debuffs. -
While I would not be opposed to adding alternative powers to sets (and I'd be fine if they added an additional tier 9 choice to Dark Armor for people that wanted it), my problem is this:
You really can't give this kind of feature to one set and not to the others. Why should Dark Armor get two tier 9 powers to choose from, but Invuln doesn't? The Devs would need to create this choice for every set, I feel. -
They have a bug fix team.
It doesn't mean that they can instantly identify and fix bugs that they come across. -
Well, make sure to check out the Server Status page, to see if they are back up. It looks like they're all in the 'unknown' phase right now, which might mean that they're coming back online.

Here's a little hint: if you have any kind of a heal enemies will indeed try to target you first.]
[/ QUOTE ]
Heres a little hint, no they dont, unless you are talking PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, don't know where Bad is getting this from. There is absolutely NO enemy in the game that uses a 'kill the healer' AI. It's possible that they could be introduced, but there are no enemies that have it in the game right now, as per a direct quote from Castle.
The threat formula does not include healing, especially self-healing. Just sitting next to a mob and healing yourself will not get you aggro from him. Sight-aggro may occur, but that is not due to healing. You could easily test this out by healing yourself using this power next to a gray-conned mob.
The only heals that I know of that would cause aggro are ones that affect an enemy in some way, such as Dark Regeneration, Twilight Grasp, Transfusion, and the like. -
Normal maintenance period is two hours, but it depends on the day. Sometimes it goes longer, sometimes it lasts for a much shorter duration.

welcome to the game, i should be on Pinnacle later tonight, so if you are on in the late night est, i can help with anything you need. global is @israck. and although Pinnacle is my, ummmmm, 6th server i've found it's agreat community (they all are actually, just a matter of what personality type you are looking for).
of course at this point, you won't have any time to play whilst looking up helpful folks from the forums

Oh great. He's spreading.
Just kidding. See ya at the meet and greet, Traegus! -
honestly, if this were me, I wouldn't 'main tank' Recluse with a Scrapper. I'd take two of the scrappers, and make him bounce his aggro back and forth between you. Use your Tier 9s in sequence, to allow the one with the Tier 9 up to tank him while the other one rests up.
The other 6 Scrappers should be able to bring down the towers pretty quickly. -
Depends on your power sets, and how much +HP you have, but finding a single mob (or a couple of mobs) that you can get to attack you while you rest tends to work. Rest boosts your healing rate, but also decreases your resistance, making it so that the enemies do more damage to you, which you can then heal up immediately.
-
Depending on your archetype (AT for short), you don't need to team. Actually, as you get more practice, you can pretty much solo on any AT.
However, watch what color the enemies are conning. That'll tell you their relative power level when compared to you. Blue, Green, and Grey enemies are weaker than you, white are about your power level, and yellow, orange, red are above your power level. Purples are much greater in power level than you, being anywhere from +4 to +46 in level to you. So watch out for purple bad guys in the early levels. -
Feel free to check out the different servers. We really have no problem with people being on 2, 3, or every server that we have.
Find an environment which is a good fit for you. That's all we ask. Well, that and for you to have fun.
