  1. Multiple job offers? That's impressive in this economy! Congrats Balshor!

(And yeah, I hear you lound and clear on free time! All my best work is done between jobs.)

and lets see more of the purple babe in your Drum shot.

Purple? That one in white is Widow's Vista in her home basic outfit. She has some other edition...err outfits, too. (D'oh, old pic, it doesn't have my enterprise outfit! Ah well.)

Searching on "Stormkind" will do it for sure. Or "Zloth" I think.

The Early Days (Don't worry, they've been toned down. A lot. Giving hurricane and steamy mist to almost every critter sure put those melee characters in their place, though! )

    Stormkind Invasion
A quick WeGame video I snagged just a bit ago while running my Stormkind Invasion (plug plug) mission arc. Custom enemies and a custom ally! Unfortunately, a couple of the custom bosses ended up next to each other. Ouch.

Simple answer is that I haven't really thought about it. I'm fairly comfortable with fraps <how can I not be comfortable with F9-on F9-off> I might consider trying other things if this compulsion to make videos continues.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Same deal with the WeGame client, but it doesn't stick an advertisement at the top and saves at higher resolution.
  7. Hehe, people keep moving before the knockback power hits them. I spy a demo playback!

So why did you use Fraps instead of the WeGame client, if I might ask?
  8. Huh, only time I've seen those kind of blanks are at the ends of demos - the last 10 lines or so.
  9. Save it to another file. Go ahead and let it stick .txt on the end. No biggy, just rename it to .cohdemo and you're fine.

Regarding the rights thing - yeah. That's why I install the game to another folder. Program Files is SUPPOSED to be just for files used to run a program. Unfortunately, City of Heroes sticks all sorts of other things in there. Things that should be somewhere in your documents folder. Now you're paying the price.

Try saving the file somewhere else - like in your documents folder. Then manually copy the file to the client_demos folder, which will require that you put in your admin password. Or you could just log in as admin and do all your edits there. (Make sure you run CoH at least once as admin and set up all your options. That will help Demo Launcher run better.)
  10. Haven't you ever heard the term "pay to play"?
  11. Actually, that timing bug never fully died, it just became rarer.

What do you mean lead times?

    Here I go again.

WHAT THE!?!? Gold farmer advertisements all over WeGame? This ain't good. This ain't good at all.

Edit: I asked in their forums. If you see a Gold Farmer advert on their website, take a screenshot and email them so they can filter it out.

Wait. I-14 Trailer? Whatever happened to the Videographer's Task Force we filmed after wrapping up the Matrix Machinima Contest? When do we get to enjoy that little jewel?

God, I forgot all about that!!!

WHAT!? You FORGOT about us!?!? Nonononono, that's not it. The real reason is that all the subjects in the video were just so awesome that you had to spend lots of extra time to make a video that lived up to their mighty potential. Yeah, that's the ticket!
  14. {Zloth crawls out from his X3: Terran Conflict sabbatical}

    Superb job, yet again!

I've got a few ideas for arcs but I'm trying to keep them at arms length. I don't know what the system will really be like when the dust settles so I'm trying not to get attached to any idea.

Oh, and thanks to EnergyOne for getting it on WeGame. I wouldn't have seen it, otherwise!

  15. !!! CoH Helper worked on Windows 7? And reported it as Vista SP1? Funky.

(No Win7 beta here. I don't put OS betas on my precious! They hurtsss uss! NASTY Betasssss!)

I'd be fine with the unlocking when the later powrs can be taken, but giving people free travel powers without taking the other powers, and at 6? Unbalancing.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You're kidding, right? Everybody can get these just by doing a Safeguard/Mayhem mission. Heck, Kheldians don't even need that, they can fly/teleport around the tutorial.

Power pool reward sounds like a good one. The tailor session... well.... not to look a gift horse in the mouth but, if you haven't coded it yet, don't bother. The only costume changes I've paid for in the past couple of years have been trivial color changes.

    P.S.

I think you guys are making a mistake. And instead of encouraging people, it might just leave you with nothing but the folks who've been able to afford to keep playing the entire time and started on day 1.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Day 1? A lot of us have been here longer than that. We didn't pay back then, though. This is about what you have bought, not about what you wish you could have bought or what you would have bought had you been paying more attention to the gaming industry. If you want to go by I-wish-I-was-playing, then I'll be expecting my 8 year "Giant Tapeworm Slayer" badge pretty soon.

AND drawing in the mouths! That's what's really impressing me to no end! (If it's BAB doing it, I expect we'll have mouth movements on some of our emotes in I14. )

P.S. The link on the announcement page to this topic is in HTML instead of UBB.

P.P.S. Suuuuure is easier to post links to other topics over in those neeeeeew boards, isn't it? Suuuuuuuure would be nice to start heading over there.... <ahem>
  18. You mean GameTrailers? Yeah, I can believe that. VERY few trailers come out on that site the last two weeks of December and all the way through the 12 days of Christmas. GameSpot pretty much stops, too. Heck, our own devs vanish!

She does - that's where I always get them. MUCH better quality there. The thing is, people don't find your video just cruising around and searching on random stuff if it's only on your website.

Copyright laws are a balance between two interests. The first is obviously for the artists/thinkers making these things. The law needs to be strong enough that they have a chance to earn some good money of their work and make a living, otherwise they won't do it - at least not professionally. The second is society, which can benefit more from a work once it enters the public domain. Machinima music videos are a fine example of why that's true. Right now, at least in this area, the balance is tilted far toward the artists' favor - so much so that it's more about the estates of the artists instead of the artists themselves!

And yeah, there is actually a lot of public domain music out there. Or you can try and get music off the old wax cylinders that have fallout... ahem... fallen out of copyright....
  20. Well, as long as the games work, no biggy. I was actually expecting them to be leftovers from GameTrailers reviews.

Base cost? Eh? So how does this actually work? Do they essentially just hand you a coupon that says "X dollars off your next Toyota Matrix" where 'X' is the price of a Matrix with no options?
  21. <Zloth drools profusely>
  22. Mostly WoW but Stone Falcon's Gametrailer's entry made third place. (And SF made first place, too!) Methinks somebody needs to point IGN this way.

Anyway, full list is here. Straight machinima only, not music videos.
  23. !?!? I thought I fixed that link! Oh frak, I forgot to change it in the output! The correct link is: http://home.roadrunner.com/~dasloth/CoH/CoHHelper.html

OK, fixed that problem and uploaded version 1.1.6. Also fixed how it reads the service pack number so it doesn't flag it all the time.

So, can we let this topic die now?

I don't get it. I thought it was only considered copyrighting when you were actually making a profit off it. Why all the hate on somebodies "video game" movie....simply corporate greed is what I call it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Nope. That's why CoH isn't likely to ever allow music that they don't own being in a video contest. And there's good reason, too.

Say I write a real good book and it gets published. Then a bigger publisher who wants to put my publisher out of business decides to copy the book. However, instead of selling it, they give it away free. They make sure there are stacks of them at every bookstore and they give enough to Amazon so Amazon can give away a free copy with the order of any book. The big company will take a big loss but sales of my book will go to pretty near zero, putting my publisher out of business. Tactics like that mean the copyright laws have to include free distributions.

There are some exceptions (fair use, educational purposes, parodies) but hardly any machinima has a shot at any of those.

Personally, if you want to take shots at the copyright system, I would aim for the time it takes for a copyright to expire. Right now they last 70 years and the clock doesn't start ticking until the last author has died. I'm thinking 10 years after first publication would be a lot more fair.

ok, cause I'm having problems getting it to unzip the files correctly. gives me error code 40. and just another quick question, or statement rather. I run WoW at pretty much full capacity with the same system that I posted in the previous post. I really don't see how it could be my video card. Guess I'll just have to wait for SP2 for vista and see what happens then. thanks again.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I believe they put a password on that zip. The web page tells you what it is. (No clue why they do that.)

As for WoW, well, yeah. I think some of today's pocket calculators can run WoW. It's most certainly not graphically intense. Plus this thing is a timing issue, which makes it hit pretty randomly. One person could have no trouble at all with CoH while having an awful time with Fallout 3. Another person could have that reversed.
