...in the wild.
I knew I saw that definition somewhere! -
Quote:And there's the magic balance. Entertainment and reward are integral parts of a good MMO. One cannot support a game without the other.People read novels, watch television, go to the movies and even play traditional board games without "rewards" other than the entertainment they find intrinsic to the experience. No matter what pot of gold you put at the end of your MMO rainbow, if your MMO lacks that quality eventually the dissonance will win out and people will quit.

Quote:If the only reason people will run something is it's the only way to get a reward, you make that to rethink how you are doing them. If they were fun, people would do them anyway.
This is what I think is wrong with most raid systems, honestly, doing them are not really fun.
What in this game do you repeat ad-nausea just for the fun of it? Even having steak everyday gets old. In this game people are running multiple characters through the same content. To say they would do it without the reward is just not reality. -
Destructible environments!

"Dawson's Creek in the future."
This is my fear as well for a Starfleet Academy show. Also, and this is my opinion, Both Enterprise and JJ Abrams-Trek took the best TNG movie, First Contact, and used it to take a steaming pile on the original time line. After all these years, directors and produces still come along and thing they have a better idea about Star Trek than Gene Roddenberry, only to be proven wrong. Enterprise thought the best formula was to get as many aspects of TNG into the show as possible (regardless of whether they fit or not). JJ Abrams thought all of Star Trek was Kirk and Spock and the entire Trek universe was just a supporting cast.
Like it has been said, if you are going to create a new show, drop the gimmicks, get back to basics of allowing the viewer to establish a rapport with the crew an come up with stories that can carry the show with or without flashy effects. -
Pixar made an MMO?

This. In reality, WP would be more of a pool power than a primary or secondary.

Quote:Captain America is peak human strength. He can lift the maximum limit for his size that a human can do and still be considered 'normal'. He's like an Olympic Class weight lifter.
Spider-Man is super humanly strong. He can tear a steel door off its hinges. He can throw a small car, with effort. But that doesn't qualify as even "low tier" super strength in the Marvel universe.
Luke Cage, he's low tier. New Avengers establishes he's stronger than Spidey. Iron Man's basic armor is probably around this level.
Ben Grimm, Colossus, they're stronger. They're around mid level.
Thor and Hulk are around the top level, typically.
Beyond them, you get guys in the cosmic class of power where it's really not about muscle strength anymore. Guys like Gladiator, Thanos and such.
Where does our game lay?
In my opinion, the damage indicates around Spider-Man's level of strength for Tankers, and getting close to mid level for Brutes.
Some of SS's attacks TRY for a mid-high tier feel like Foot Stomp and Hand Clap, but the damage just isn't there to support it. Look at how much effort it takes just to destroy a car. Or when you can't even knock over a Malta boss, who's just a normal guy in a blue cowboy hat. Or how much damage you deal compared to a teammate brandishing a wooden baseball bat. And when's the last time you knocked someone through a wall? Or picked up a truck?
.
Spider-man - 10 tons
Luke Cage - Started at 2 tons, now approx. 50 tons
The Thing - 85 to 95 tons
Colossus - 95 to 100 tons
Thor - 100+
Hulk - 100+
There's always the boosts from extreme efforts that may skew the numbers from time to time. Spider-man once lifted a 50 ton freight engine because he was pissed off. -
All super strength comes with some level of invulnerability.

From a purely Trek point of view, you can go to warp from any Newtonian speed. Warping of space just lets that speed take you farther than you should.

If this guy were real, he would be in a box somewhere with no contact with the outside world. His technology would be dissected, tested, and then hidden away until it could be made profitable without exposing it's true potential.

I would be happy if the many chest pieces had corresponding back pieces.

I give you the long-dead "It must be Thrown!" thread. Seems to be along the same lines.

Quote:I find this to be a profoundly disappointing position to take, Johnny. You're essentially suggesting that we don't bother doing anything interesting with the old game until the new game comes out, when you know full well that a new one may (and probably will) never come, and that even if it did, not everyone will want it. I'm not sure I will, for one. You're essentially damning everyone who likes the game he's currently playing because you don't, for the sake of chasing after what may never be.
Personally, I feel that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I firmly believe that we should focus on making THIS game great first and foremost, and if another one comes out, we'll worry about it then. I certainly don't want to neglect City of Heroes because there's no point. There's still point. Yes, it's a seven-year-old game. It still has some of the best, most diverse art styles of any game out today, and I'm including all competition. City of Heroes is still a very viable MMO, and I want the best for it. Not "maintenance mode," but the best.
The graphics aren't that bad, and the places where they are can be fixed.

Personally, I don't want a City of Heroes 2. A lot of what's cool about this game is the legacy of unexpected design consequences. Our ability to solo AT ALL is a direct result of Geko's miscalculation that allowed SO-stocked characters to reach greatly unexpected levels of power. This wasn't intended, but once it was a fact, even Jack Emmert's powerful vision couldn't shift the players off what they wanted to do. I have no reason to believe that a brand new game with a brand new combat system (and they won't make a new one with the old system, I can promise you that) won't patch up all of the loopholes that allow us to make the game too easy.
City of Heroes already has seven years worth of content and customization items. A new game with a new graphical engine won't be able to use those, so I'm almost positive it would end up with rather a lot fewer pieces to go around. It'd be like going from City of Heroes to Champions Online - better graphics, more customizable characters, complete lack of costumes and content. No, thank you.
---
If City of Heroes 2 is to be released, then it will be released. I don't want to bother my brain worrying about it until that happens. What I want right now is to make City of Heroes: Freedom the best game it can be, regardless of what sequels it may or may not get. Because I think the game has the potential for it, and because I feel the game deserves it. I don't want to play another game, be it a sequel or a competitor. I want to play THIS game. It's what I bought, it's what I want, it's what I intend to keep paying for.
I think you make a lot of assumptions Sam that the devs are not aware of the pitfalls of trying to migrate players to a new game or even a potential continuation of the current one. I think it's same to say that the devs will not sacrifice the things that players love about this game will not be sacrificed on the alter of new shiny graphics. -

I would like to see epic pool powers available for both heroes and villains without going through the complications of becoming a full hero or vise-verse for villain patrol pool powers. A single mission where the hero infiltrates the Rogues to "procure" the powers of one of the patrons to use for good or a villain steals the secret of the epics for himself. As it stands, heroes get their epics at 41 automatically, whereas villains have to play dancing monkey for the patrons before they can be deemed "worthy".

Quote:The problem is slowly becoming that with Ultra-Mode, we have 2011 environments with 2004 models.Plus every glove texture in the game. This topic comes up from time to time, and we'd certainly love to do it. But I think it's going to take some kind of tech wizardry to make an undertaking like this feasible. If attempted right now, this one task would cost thousands of man-hours and nullify all other animation and character projects for months. Given the dozens and dozens of other cool things we could make for you instead during the same amount of time, you can see why it's not the best investment.
Then again, Ultramode happened, so it wouldn't be the first time we did a large-scale cosmetic upgrade. Never say never, I suppose. -
Yes, square jaws are literally "square" in game.

Oil Strike emote - Black = Water Spout emote.

I don't know if the Devs announced that we would see anymore Incarnate abilities unlocked.
