    You decide

    [ QUOTE ]
Your hypothesis is only correct if everyone accepts your definition of "winning"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why do you say that ?

    I don't follow the reasoning.

    You don't have to imagine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is why I found it humorous.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are people I can't stand, have agendas I despise, but who have achieved amazing things. You dismiss such to your own detriment.

Jimmy Carter is the perfect example from the otherside. You may think he was a complete idiot, but he was president and your chances are somewhat less than 1 in 300 million.

What do you call that ? Fail ?

I call it pandering to a narrow demographic. Imagine what someone with a wider appeal could achieve.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    You don't have to imagine.

I like how being a troll is a-ok with the powers that be, but stating the obvious gets you a slap on the hand from the Nanny Corps.

You must have loved that thread about you.

You saying that about Rush is the funniest thing Ive read in weeks, if not months. Thank you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm a Republican and I find it humorous.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Way off topic but the man has an audience of between 20-30 million people on a daily basis, and a net worth in the high hundreds of millions.

What do you call that ? Fail ?

You've been called out multiple times in the last few days and now all of a sudden you're back-tracking and changing your tune. Amusing

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really where have I backtracked or changed my tune here ?

    [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that about sums you up doesn't it? I can't believe it took me so long to figure out where you got your rhetoric technique. Now I know why it bugs the [censored] out of me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sorry I didn't find it an insult to be compared to one of the most successful speakers of all time. The fact that you can find such a comparison an attempted insult says a lot more about you than my finding it a compliment does about me.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
If it's your goal to be on a growing number of ignore lists, I think you're on a road to success. If your goal is to actually enlighten readers or other posters, I think you've got the wrong strategy. If you have no goal, then you are effectively a forum troll, posting for dissent's own sake. Most likely, I think no one knows what your goal is, which makes reading your eternal dissent more frustrating.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I laughed. Not at you or even your post, rather because it seems people keep accusing me of having a nefarious agenda, or in your case being on a crusade.

As to why and what I post ?

Well every so often I do an I find this interesting thread. I did this with ticket pricing and when I detailed what I saw as possible in financing a lowbie easily and with minimal impact to play for people that didn't want to "Play the Market"

And yes when I see posts that are wrong, I reply with why I think they are wrong. When someone digs in their heels and gets insulting about it I tend to respond in kind. Finally when time goes by and my position is proven correct, yes I crow about it. Show me anyone on these boards who doesn't.

As to the ignore lists, I really couldn't care one way or the other. That someone would have to use a mechanical filter is a confession of a lack of self control.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I've given up on that idea. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Especially when Rush Limbau...err i mean Another Fan is there telling everyone that we shouldn't be leading them to water cuz only [censored] and democrats do that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL the Rush part I take as a compliment. The other part isn't what I said.

What I have been saying is that the fact that you can make in game currency with the market is not in dispute. What is in dispute is that everyone should find it an enjoyable and fun part of the game.

You can't reason taste or custom. I believe this is why so many market people get soooooooooo upset when having these discussions.

Believe it or not I tried to do much the same thing you are trying to do now. I did a thread way back when called playing with the market. I took a starting character, from level 1 to 20 and showed how by just using ordinary play and a little bit of intelligence in using the market there was ZERO problem financing the character. I think I was up over 20 million at level 15 when I stopped. No market tricks just picking my missions and pricing things well. What a pointless waste of time that was. The people that would be inclined to read it, could do as well if not better, the people who don't care for the market didn't care.

The reason they can't is the same reason we have entire books on traffic laws. It isn't just the speed. It's all the other things that are unsafe.

My own thought process went in a different direction. If you ask a casino manager how they feel about winners they will tell you that they love them. What they won't tell you is that they love them only when they are at somone elses casino. The dream that you can win brings people into casino's the reality that almost everyone loses is what makes them profitable.

I think the devs are operating like casino managers. They are willing to allow some to win, just as long as the overwhelming majority lose. The people who do manage the outlying feats keep everyone else trying to do the same, and as long as they are trying and its not reasonably possible for them the devs are happy.

I should have posted this awhile back. It was the point I was trying to illustrate in the initial post. I had kind of hoped that people would see it for themselves and then poke holes in my logic.

Demonizing people that don't share your views has worked so well.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You should walk your own talk.

Sorry Not turning the other cheek is not the same as demonizing people. As it is I have been exceptionally restrained in regard to some of the more colorful posters on this board.
  12. Were you firing before the kin got off their fulcrum shifts ?

To be effective a kin needs their damage boost and they need it at least every 45 seconds. Not saying you are at fault here but everyone on a team needs to be aware of the others playstyle.

Either way it certainly sounds like the kin in question was a bit high strung they should have tried to work with you before leaving in a huff.

    [ QUOTE ]
    1. Yes, this can be done.

    [/ QUOTE ]

THIS IS WHY I CAN'T AFFORD NICE THINGS!!!

I wonder if we'd be able to explain these points (takes too long, isn't all that profitable) to a "marketeer-hater" and have it "get through".

    [/ QUOTE ]

There is the problem with the market forum in a nutshell. Overwhelming defensiveness about how the participants play the game. The demand for party loyalty and to defend the line is so off the scale, it would make democrats blush.

Whats more it gets in the way of rational discussion. The random roll vs direct, the ability to affect prices through manipulation, the role of advance information from closed beta, have all been victims

You can say this is so but not hate the market. You can even say that people who don't like the market have a valid viewpoint without hating the market.

Demonizing people that don't share your views has worked so well. I mean thats why we have merged markets already, a better interface for the market or even just power suppression in the markets.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
I don't recall any of the marketeers really challenging me on any of that. Maybe the prevailing wisdom has changed since then, but, as a lot of the people posting now were the same people posting then, I kinda doubt it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then we should never hear anything of Smurphy's legendary bet again. Actually the prevailing wisdom has shifted from "You can't do that", to no one would bother. I would put to you that the fact you have undermined them in the past months is proof people are doing it.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    This contradicts the prevailing wisdom

Be prepared to be told how what you did does not satisfy the criteria.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Prevailing wisdom says wasting all your slots and salvage inventory to make 6m inf per day is ridiculous. He just proved that it can be done, which is cool, but he also proved why we don't bother.

BTW, I don't know what the criteria of the challenge were. I haven't been here that long. But I did just win a lowball bid (~5m) for a recipe that sells for 50m-80m crafted. I'd rather use my slots for that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nobody else knows either. It seems to have a quantum nature that when you try to fix a parameter others shift.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
With no denegration intended to FashionSense whatever, we have seen this done before. I mention it only to clarify that we did already know you can create waves and profit from them. In fact, we knew if from a very long and technically detailed post by TheGameMaster months and months before the most famous (in my memory) debate around here about equilibrium pricing and whatnot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes thats why there was that long long debate over weather or not it could be done and why Smurphy kept redefining the terms of his experiment.

If you want more recharge and acc you can pop in the purple pbaoe set
  18. This contradicts the prevailing wisdom

Be prepared to be told how what you did does not satisfy the criteria.
  19. Planned attack chain ?

    Aim+BU+Fireball+FireBreath,PsiScream ?

If so you are kind of short on range for fire breath

You might want to put a damage or other proc in fireball it recharges fast enough as it is and your damage is ed capped.

Instead of the HOs in fly think about a couple pieces of blessing for the ranged defense.

    I don't see a stealth IO anywhere

Aid self maybe a doctored wounds and a 50 interupt reducer ?

Instead of mindprobe you might want to consider tk thrust with perhaps an explosive strike set for more defense.

Inferno is really not a farming tool unless you plan on teaming with a tank. If you want it instead of franken slotting think about a set with bonuses you will want for it.

What you pay for that armageddon could easily pay for a substantial portion of the rest of your build. ( I don't have this open in mids but another oblit would go well there, if you havent hit the rule of 5 on recharges.)

Seems lots of people have been doing that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hate to feed a troll, but I'd like a little bit of clarification on this. A lot of people have been doing what? Leaving the MMO genre in general, or CoX in particular?

    [/ QUOTE ]

And I really hate to reply to someone who starts a question with an insult.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No you don't or you wouldn't keep doing it.

I rarely do Milady's but I am more than able to finish what other people chose to start. Sorry if you are taking umbrage at the description of your response as browbeating.
  21. Fire Kin is love hate. All I can say is accuracy and end reduction are your friends, especially on the KIN side.

Also If you dont want to draw aggro its the wrong combo. You are going to draw endless amounts of aggro to make it work.

One last thing get used to the loons going speedboost please every few seconds. Its a pain but liveable.

I find it highly amusing that I tried being the voice of reason for a week and even tried getting this thread back on track several times and none of the market-haters said anything...but the one time I take a swipe at stupid people doing stupid [censored], Another_fan is there to flame me. JUST IN CASE we weren't sure if he was a troll or just a bad mix of passionate and condescending...

This makes the first time I have said anything in reply to your comments on this thread. Would you care to show were I flamed you ?

You're right, I apologize, it wasn't you who directly replied to my post.

You did, however reply to a reply to my post and called me a curmudgeon, which hurt my feelings. I'm not THAT old yet. Call me an [censored] if you must, please.

Also you flamed other people...though I tend to agree with the fact that a lot of people you flame are rude to you first and usually deserve it, you do tend to invite the rudeness with your constantly condescending attitude and frequent claims to moral high-ground as if the condescension is all in our heads. There's a reason people around here don't like you and it's not your opinion, it's your delivery.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My delivery is what it is.

Now see what you started Stillhart?! A troll invasion. Great! And the cleaning lady was JUST here. We'll be cleaning the troll poop off the ceiling for weeks. Nice going ... trying to make a "guide" to "help" people!

I'm just saying that disguising a Farm as a story isn't going to stop it from being reported if it can be abused to farm with

    [/ QUOTE ]

You really don't understand the characteristics of a farm. I can farm Johnny Sonata easily and profitably.
