Quote:[Sean Connery] I'm waiting to be impressed [/Sean Connery]First - the main reason I haven't bothered to motivate the troops and make it a real effort is because I would find it a real pita to global that much inf from all the various characters on the various servers all over to virtue.
Second - as noted in another thread I was told, "no one would care". Apparently the "wow" factor I would have thought would be fun to get out of ya'll wouldn't exist according to various posts by yourselves. So what would be the fun in achieving it if no one cares, lol.
Lastly - since you already hit the 1 spot on virtue, if we go there now and make a run at it, would it be anti-climactic at this point ? And again as noted "would anyone care".
Now all that being said - would you all promise to be suitably impressed ? I would like a cookie for the effort of course.
Do you want this to be on virtue ? Do you want to throw down the gauntlet elsewhere ?
Finally I will not allow the competitive group to be called "crazy whatevers". But in the info section I'll put "crazy 88's competitor" or some such.
In the end this challenge doesnt mean that much to me. But it seemed like a fun idea to simply get a reaction based on how much you all pat yourselves on the back regarding your efforts. That and some of you purposely antagonize the other SG leaders who take the prestige ranking more seriously. IMO the antagonizing seems to be in poor taste. So it seemed fitting.
Any other thoughts regarding this challenge ?
So, you want to get a reaction out of the 88ers BECAUSE you think that some members of the group getting a reaction out of others is in poor taste? Psst, kettle? Pot here. You're black!
Get off the pot and crush the 88ers like bugs! Conversely, you could do nothing and stop your idle and meaningless threats! =) I for one promise to be impressed if you hit the prestige cap. -
Quote:I totally understand where you are coming from, and if this were a single player game rather than a MMORPG (or whatever the acronym is nowadays!) then I would agree with you 100%.
That, I think, is exactly where we disagree. To me, a game shouldn't be a direct representation of the real world. We come here to relax, have fun, and have a good time. To me, a game should enable me (and everyone else) to have loads of fun. High rewards, low cost, low risk. Being a Game Design student, that's how I look at games. And what I say is, why SHOULDN'T that new player feel powerful with minimal effort? Why SHOULDN'T you be epic with minimal cost? It's all in a virtual world and a video game.
However, when you are playing with (and against) other people, it makes sense (to me) that people who work harder at being good at it deserve to have a step up over those who don't work so hard. That's the competition process.
If I'm playing tennis against someone who has taken years of lessons and trains for the pro circuit, then I really shouldn't be surprised when they whip me 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 ( I think that is the right terminology). I guess I could play on a court that is covered in ice on my opponents side, and where he is wearing blinders and 10 kg weights on each elbow, and then I might have a chance at an even game. (Call this option A). Or I could learn to play better tennis (Option B). Or I could just accept that I'm going to lose and just enjoy playing the game (Option C). Or I could play Wii tennis against the computer and dial down the competition. (Option D)
In my opinion, those who advocate radically dumbing down the system are asking for the equivalent of Option A. It penalizes people who have spent time and effort learning the system to become better at it.
Option B would entail learning how the system works (lots of good help in this forum for that). Option C would pretty much consist of gnashing your teeth silently but not posting market rants. And Option D would be finding an easier single-player game.
I'm not a fan of AE (it has led to the most exploits that I have seen) and if I had my druthers, I'd have AE missions give tickets only and no inf. It IS a simulated video game after all, and no one is paying ME to play CoH. But it is certainly not the ONLY issue that leads to inflation. -
Wow! I never in a million years would have thought that we would pop #1 this weekend! Now I'm sad that I'm on vacation in Hawaii for three weeks and can't log in to see the results myself.
Who am I kidding!? Mele Kalikimaka everyone and I look forward to the next chapter of hitting the prestige cap. -
I just dropped off three cords of wood. We're just under 330mm prestige, which has us about 20mm out of the #4 rank.
-
I'll pop a bn or 2 or 3 in the fire on the 21st as well. baby, it's cold outside!

Quote:If you can't wait for the good folks at Mid's to cater to you, I'd suggest using algebra.Im assuming making a mock up inherit power for Musculature, Cardiac, Nerve and Spiritual buffs, and then just clicking which one you have equipped? This would be really useful to have right about now. Any ideas?
Apologies if this has already been discussed and resolved. -
I also can supply based on your bidding price. I assume you are bidding above last 5 prices?
-
Ok, I was just concerned that the initial post had me second guessing about whether or not you could have an alpha slot on a toon with purples.
I have the alpha slot (slotted) on a few characters, but the bonuses only show up on the first one so far. Which puzzles me.
so far I'm probably getting the most bang for the buck with cardiac, since that is often the last thing I normally slot for, and I am certainly nowhere near ED capped on any power in endurance reduction! -
Have you all been asking in the PvP forums as well? I'd guess you'd get a quicker and better response there.
-
Is this a theoretical question, or are my incarnate toons with purples wasting their time?

Quote:You made some good points, but let's not forget that the whole impetus behind AE was the reality television driver. "Wait, our clients want more content? Let's charge them AND make them develop new content for us. Brilliant! No, you are brilliant!"
The AE gives us "the keys to [the] kingdom" as massively.com said in their official Doom article with i14s release/followup; if the devs don't want to change the devcreated content for faster leveling options the players will use the keys to do it for themselves.
The way I look at it, the developers are just lazy and sloppy for asking their subscribers to create content AND for not fixing exploits related to that content creation. Hey, we are all lazy and sloppy to some extent. But I wouldn't hire any of these people if I had a serious job I needed done. -
This is a topic gone over many times in the Markets Forum.
Everyone has their own opinion. Mine is:
It is pretty easy to hit the influence cap. The original programmers probably didn't ever consider how easy it would be. You can buy almost everything you need for a lot less than the influence cap. Reprogramming the game to increase the influence cap will almost certainly be detrimental to your gaming experience in terms of downtime.
So who cares? If you really judge the quality of your gaming experience based on numbers, then hit the prestige cap for your supergroup. -
Quote:Wow! I thought I was asking a rhetorical question!Yes, it should. Unless they are willing to commit the time and energy to examine each case on an individual basis to determine intent, it should be assumed that each case is a mistake and that no action should be taken. The only players that they can say absolutely did knowingly break the rules are the ones that actually made the exploitable arcs, in some cases even after those arcs were deleted previously. Those people have no excuse and action should be taken. All other cases should be treated as misunderstandings for the sole purpose of good customer relations on the off chance that even one of those people was a new player who didn't know better. That's just good business. In the long run they lose nothing by letting it slide. Taking a hardline approach could cost them a great deal.

Quote:There is a parking lot near where I am currently living which advertises rates of $10 per day or $400 per month.nobody has ever asked! I am thinking 150 million a day, or a whole week for 1 billion, all inf goes right to the fire pit.
I too was worried about post i19 prices but my toons are kitted out for the most part, incarnates are a non-inf related issue. and until they release some more sets ( hello Purple defense and resistance sets) I think I have plenty to last a while.
And I'm all, whaaaaaat? Are months over 40 days on your planet?
=) -
Quote:I understand your point, but do you really think that how to deal with exploits should be defined and calibrated by those three or four players who just joined in the last day? Here's part of the problem when discussing exploits and banning the users of said exploits. Players new to the game don't know whan the "normal" XP rates are. A player that just bought the game isn't going to have any idea of how fast the game is going to allow them to level. All they know is that they got through the tutorial (which is also not an accurate indicator of level advancement), entered Atlas and responded to a broadcast for an AE team. This is especially true of a player that is picking up CoX as their first MMO. They did what they would have been expected to do as a new player and nothing else. Deleting that players characters or banning the player is a sure fire way to lose that account, so why would the Devs do such a thing? It's one thing to do that to a player that should know better, but something else entirely to do it to a new player that is far more likely to just uninstall because of it.
Personally, I'm an old-school hard-liner. If they decide *activity* is wrong, then I'm all for deleting all characters that provably engaged in *activity*.
The crux here is that what I feel is irrelevant.

It seems like a low price, but it regenerates! -
Quote:What happened here? Did Nethergoat fall in his own fire pit? Did Fulmens get too busy funding other SGs he forgot about this one? Did granny get injured in a horrable turkey basting accident?
I told myself I wasn't going to burn any more till i19 launched, but by golly I am not going to let us catch a winter chill; not on my watch! So I'll peel off a billion and know we'll all sleep warmly tonight as the inf flames roar.
What are the rates for your sig rent?
I for one am waiting until I19, what with the monkey madness and uncertainty about the "core value" of some things. -
I agree the drop rate is ridiculously high compared to "useful" things.
IMO it was an experiment that failed. -
I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, but it is nice to see people address exploits. Asking people not to post about exploits is like asking people not to talk about crime. Personally, I'd like the team at CoH to be informed about exploits as soon as possible so that they can fix exploits as soon as possible.
I don't want to determine how anyone has fun in this game, but if you allow exploit users into the marketplace, then it affects everyone who uses the marketplace. Prices on many items have dropped to near zero levels as people running monkey farms get thousands of tickets per minute and use them for rolls then flood the market.
Is this a market opportunity? Sure. But personally I am not having fun. So I'm sitting on my front porch shaking my cane at you darned kids who are exploiting the bugs in the game!!!! -
I would think that it will be hard for you to make money as quickly now that you are not exploiting an AE bug. good luck though!
-
Yeah, the proc from Numina's isn't really a situational benefit; you can always benefit from it. Set it and forget it in Health.

Quote:How I read this:Alchemical Silver.
There are 14,456 bids.
There are 521 for sale.
Last 5 (all 2010-11-24):
300,000
300,000
1,500,000
1,011,111
250,000
How should we read this?
One or more people have a very large number of outstanding bids on AlSil.
A large number of people probably have a small number of outstanding bids on AlSil.
Last 5 trades are probably all at higher prices than the lowest outstanding offered AlSil (meaning that bidders did not bother to creep).
You could find out two more vital pieces of information. If you have one Al Sil, offer it at 1 inf and see where it trades; that is the highest outstanding bid. Then try to buy one by bid creeping; if you are diligent then that is the lowest outstanding offer. With that additional information it can help you determine whether these last 5 trading levels are representative of the overall market in Al Sil. -
As long as the AE has been up, there have been AE exploits to generate inf.
I would have a hard time supporting an inf for items exchange given that.
