Well, I'm guessing we can only enter one character, but I want to show off the rest anyway
"Treasure Isle" is the base shaped like a cave! It's a pirate's grotto!!
(Some of) My pirates! All in their piratty sharp formalwear colors.
That's Bashing Buckaneer, Cannibal Petey Bones, Navigation Wench, Second Matey Man, Pie Ratt Chick (the cap'n), First Matey Man, Houdoun Hettie, and Bajak Laut.
Pie Ratt Chick isn't particularly ever going to get played much (as she's a trick arrow/archery defender.... sigh) but I think she looks awesome.
I don't have images of Captured Ninja Boy and Girl or Gorilla Pirate. -
Of all the years that I didn't decide to plug my Pinnacle pirate group for its one-day-a-year 'event'... :/ figures.
And of course, 2 out of my 3 accounts aren't active, so I can't go get Navigation Wench, Cannibal Petey Bones, or Bajak Laut. -
Pffffflol.
You totally just made me say pffff.
Oh yah. I needs to pm you about somefin. -
I didn't even really ever have a robotic character until about 2 weeks ago, so this comes at a perfect time. And yes, she's bound to explode. She's modeled somewhat after GLaDOS... heheh.
b'boum. -
Ooooh - no, no, there should be THREE.
One - burning brightly red/orange as strong as you can get fire to be
Two - burning delicately blue, faintly
Three - smoldering
-
First thing I can think of is just put the flame aura on his head instead of smoldering. That is such an awesome concept on a character.
-
It's like if her mouth opened up to smile properly, all her teeth would start showing, and then her skull, and then parts we didn't know existed.
I like the picture. It's cute. -
I love the girl's smile. It's terrifying.

If anything, i bet the companies are fine with it.
First off they get free publicity.
[/ QUOTE ]
Trust me, you don't want to test that theory with the wrong company. They are *not* okay with it. They are okay with their artists making quick money at conventions, they are not okay with it being out of control.
[ QUOTE ]
Secondly, companies dont care unless you are making thousands of dollars. A few hundred or less they dont care. Especially since they would probably be paying more than that for said publicity.
[/ QUOTE ]
You'd think that. However... A guy in Pern fandom went up against McCaffrey after she tried to stop him from making *legal* leatherworks and selling them - the art wasn't hers to approve or deny, so far as I know. This guy made far, far less than "thousands of dollars" on his works, AND had made a deal specifically with the original artist whose works he was reproducing in leather form.
I was slammed with a copyright infringement c&d by McCaffrey for *putting up a completely unrelated fanwork on line* - and joined a group called Burned for Fandom which Dee Dreslaugh started after she'd been hit with a threat in the 6-figure range for having sold 130$ worth of art.
People don't care how much you make. It's whether they have lawyers who are interested in stroking their own egos to get somewhere, whether you'll be hit or not. Been there. Done that. Know better.
[ QUOTE ]
Also, I think there are loop holes when it comes to peoples art. As long as they arnt ripping off someone elses work or a comic over or whatever, (basically, original) than I think there are outs if they ever did call someone on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope. It's infringement the moment you sell something for money. Period. Whether it's ENFORCED is the issue here.
Copyright and trademark infringement are serious. It's whether the owners of said marks want to devote all their time (like McCaffrey's - who has stopped sending such vile c&ds to fans ) hunting them down. You would THINK they want the free press, but they DO NOT want.
Some do. The guy who created Redwall for instance, has (at least, had, when I last saw it several years ago) a huge fan following *on his own site* and allowed people to freely use his stuff because he enjoyed seeing what they'd do with it. Such night and day efforts of patrolling for infringement mean only one thing:
Don't do until you know.
Avoid *actual copyrighted characters* but legally placing your OWN character "in the world of x" is completely legal - concepts cannot be copyrighted, period - so if you want to write / draw your XMen or Naruto type character you can and should. Just don't include the real thing. -
Most of my friends who go to anime cons would disagree, Ironik, but then I don't go to them myself so I wouldn't know. (edit for clarity: because a lot of them go and ask on DA "should I do x or y fan art to sell at the anime con next month?")
But yeah it's technically infringement, however a lot of times the stuff being sold is one-off and not enough to make a dent in any professional *studio* income. I'm talking about superhero stuff though.
Anime on the other hand I would imagine IS a bigger problem because there are SO darn many fans, and SO many individuals trying to make a buck on fan art.
I've tried to warn people away from too much fan art, because with only few exceptions it's mostly garbage, and about characters that all... look... the same... (and having the comic store experience I do, that's saying a LOT about what I see on deviantart...) -
I know there used to be a little thing to use in startup but honestly that was like... for windows 98 or earlier. I'm sure there IS a way to do it, what OS are you running specifically? Maybe check sites for that.

I so have two characters who require those. Winter's True Spirit has a white and gold outfit going on with her icy headspikes, and Trickster's Jackalope never quite got a grip on how to control his burning exterior. Awesomesauce. I only got on test a moment but it was worth seeing those
-
Yeah definitely darker, darken down those brights on both those costumes and they'll look better.
-
Well, whatever looks nice to you.
This is mainly for web design, but it might help you out a little if you plug in hex codes and see what you can start with.
http://www.colorsontheweb.com/colorwheel.asp
I actually find that 3 colors might be too much for a simple outfit. 2 is good, and almost anything still goes with black or white no matter how much people complain about it being overused.
Avoid directly opposing colors, try using 3 shades of the same color, or 3 colors that on our chart are vertically aligned. Since we have a limited color pallette it's not SO bad, if we had "millions" of colors imagine the issues
(lol edit to add, since I noticed now you already DO the three shades...)
Try looking at "seasonal" colors - autumn is brown, red, orange, yellow. Winter is white, blue, green, red. Holidays and other festive ideas (gift wrap) can inspire you. -
Hands and claws are very nice. Very well done.
edit:
So, when will we be seeing your friend in the game, Marcian? -
Oh crap they do? o.o Well I'm crossin my fingers for them. We need that rain over here where I am! Not over there!
-
Isn't that what he's for?
There are some nice ones.
Weird sidenote, the female with the head peeled open (next to the skinless wonder on the left) - there was a girl at one year's Comic Con who did that costume. Perfectly. She won their award that basically stuck her in one of the movies as an extra, but also I'm pretty sure got a job in the industry for that.
And where's the one with the CD sticking in it? o.0 or am I thinking of something else?
I may try in a bit to make one for ya.
*edit* here you go.
Cenobite - I just used full masks, bio-organic head to foot, a medium red base shade and the far right red for the bio-organic texture. Crystal crown thing (bones?), surgeons mask, and Clavicle accents, chain, and ring belt.
I have a toon already named Screaming Meatsack, who looks rather like this guy, only he's got the exposed brain head. -
I take a LOT of screenshots everywhere I go I am sure that I'll be taking mine.
I may try demorecording it, but I don't really know then what to do with it, since I don't have Fraps or something to film it onto a viewable movie file. -
I always, always make my characters look the way they "should" - long legs, short legs, full middles, wasp waists. I am also kind of particular about the facial / head sliders, really, because those can completely change how you see the whole character.
-
heheh Congratulations!
Already dealt with this on DA, so now all I ask is, should we bring presents? -
Between this blurb and Posi's letter....
Can't type, too busy drooling!
Shields, guys. And base love. AND mission creator. AND updated Cimerora. AND emp for villains. AND rewards for tf's. AND downtime. ... my GOD.
GREAT work I can't wait to see this all in action!! -
I haven't been to PAX, but if I were able I might go. I actually don't even much care for the comic itself, but the con is growing by leaps and bounds, attracting a LOT of attention mainly from video game companies, but also other things.

I was planning on being there - until I realized just how little the Dev's care about the Meet and Greet. Last year Posi blew it off to speak on a panel. This year, they can't even make the effort to find a venue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shut yer hole. Ex Libris has been busting her butt working with the community, those of us who live in Seattle, to find a suitable venue. Try reading the Community tracker to see all the posts about it. Not to mention the plenty of PM's that you're not privvy to.
Ignorant posting for the lose.
[/ QUOTE ]
Quoted for truth. I'm sorry but if you think that BECAUSE one person had to do something outside of the meet n greet, they're "ignoring" us? Hello - they HAVE meet n greets.
The only other company I know that is this warm to customers is Valve, recently they had a class of deaf kids come through their studios to tour and then invited them back for a Left 4 Dead lan party.
The people working at NC NC are *awesome* folks - they work HARD for us. We are their bread and butter, they're not dissing us. They're doing their jobs. I felt so priveleged to be talking to Brian Clayton for I dunno how long at the comic con party, it was *magic*.
So, how little they care? How about how little you know.
