Quote:I'd add another Cape/Aura-like set of soloable missions to those who have achieved Level 50+3, this would unlock an in-game store that sells the recipes for all IOs below purple.
I would then make a random purple IO drop on completion of each DA arc and any more solo Incarnate arcs after. I would also add a random purple or PvP IO drop to the completion of the harder or higher tier Incarnate Trials.
Alignment and Reward merit costs of recipes and salvage would be halved, at least, where possible.
I would add an ingame browser for the forums to increase traffic and let the community have more accessability to one another. This includes F2P accounts.
The use of X more than once in a row will be an invalid name.
Trolling/trying to ruin RP and in-zone PvP duels would be punishable with an account-wide chat ban for 6-12 hours. If it continues, a 24 hour account lock would be in effect.
Bill said make the players HATE you, not LOVE you. Don't worry, I didn't get it either. :/ -
Quote:Yeah, I think I misunderstood that part.To be honest, I was taking it that for the purposes of this thread that everyone quitting is an acceptable outcome. It's why I bothered to log in and post my own - I'd not advocate for them normally because I know the only way(s) to make them happen likely would result in lots of people quitting, but in this thread that's not an issue.
So, and all 16 of my suggestions were things I would really do. There may be one or two that would cause complaining (too lite a word maybe), but I don't think many if any would quit over them.
I think because I didn't get what you stated, that I took some people more serous than they were. I mean no sane person would really want to nerf hasten... -
This post is a good example of some of what I was talking about in my last post. The things I have bolded I think would actually drive people away. I know they are things that would make me feel far less super.
Quote:I would praise your name to the high heavens.Oh boy, oh boy.
Convert all KB into KD. Allow players to slot KB enhancements to convert KD back into KB. Add significant damage to KB effects so that knocking enemies into walls and such actually causes damage.
Quote:[*]Alter the defense and resistance cap system. Nobody would be able to reach soft- or hard-caps without external buffs. Non-melee ATs would selfcap at 20% defense/30% resist. Scrappers/stalkers would selfcap at 30% defense/50% resist, brutes would selfcap at 35% defense/60% resist, and tankers would selfcap at 40% defense/75% resist. This would include all IO set bonuses and self-inspiration use.[*]Cap all defense related IO set bonuses at 5% to any value. [*]Cap all global recharge at +75%. This would include IO set bonuses, Hasten and all other sources.
Quote:[*]Add a 50% chance for friendly fire to all AoEs. Player characters in a detrimental AoE effect would have a 50% chance of suffering the effect themselves.
Quote:[*]Create failure conditions for all task/strike forces. Oh, you let Dr. Todd die? Moonfire TF failed. Add a 20 hour cooldown for rerunning a failed TF.
Quote:[*]Eliminate all external buff/debuff stacking. Weaker effects shall be overwritten by stronger effects.
Quote:[*]Disallow the creation of characters with names in all caps or all lowercase.[/list] -
Quote:I think this is where I am failing at this thread, and part of that is because I have worked in LARP and Table Top game design.on account of your suggestions.
If your suggestions wouldn't drive players away and ruin the game, raise firestorms of righteous fury and burning anger in the forums, and make you fear for your (virtual) safety, then be bold and Think Bigger.
Some of the suggestions (hasten nerfs, def nerfs, IO nerfs) are things that actually would make people quit the game. Then they would shut the game down. I mean I guess it works, people would hate you. After all they would see you as responsible for the destruction of the mmo they love. Shoot, I have seen a few things in this thread that I think would make a few staff members quit before they would implement them.
I was more going for things that people may not like, but would also not make them quit. They were however things I would actually do if I were in charge. -
Quote:Yup I would hate this.Update all incarnate recipes to include shard based components and then eliminate the thread based components entirely. Shards would become equivalent to Astrals for purchases and NotW equivalent to Emps with costs lowered for the increased difficulty of getting NotW but the WST timegate changed to a daily restriction instead of weekly.
iTrials will still exist but would not reward anything beyond the pleasure of doing iTrials and whatever rewards a TF gives.
Gut the defense bonuses from IOs. Add a few more options for res set bonuses. Give recharge a serious look, probably gut that but also update the base recharge times of sets that need recharge to function in the modern fast moving CoH (anything with static location based powers like traps).
16: I would dump the shard system (I think it is going to be any way) and all of it merged to the thread system. The WST would reward would be a 50/50 chance for a rare/VR incarnate component. (Based on a few comments here and there, I think this is going to happen any way). The up side is that all content would drop threads for those with the alpha slot open, much like DA does now. The TFs that currently offer a component would instead offer 20-60 threads so that a common or uncommon component could be crafted. -
Quote:I am weird, but ED and the GDN stopped bothering me after IOs. Because I then saw the point. I like to think that they knew IOs were coming and that is why they did it. Who (but the devs) know if that is true or not.Let me give you two examples - both because of ED.
1. Pre-ED, the game was turning into "The tank herds the room/map/zone, a blaster nukes, we move on." That, as much as some people long for those days, would have killed the game long before now. I know it was boring me to tears. And I was one of the blasters nuking 500 enemies at once.
2. Without the ED/GDN nerfs, there's *no* way we'd have the Invention system we have now. I may not like some of the power creep we've gotten from it (softcapped blasters?) but I *do* like some of the added bonuses we've gotten - like my ranged attacks having a chance to hold, or non damaging powers now able to do damage thanks to procs.
There's basically a danger of either everything becoming too easy (imagine all Dom powers being at pre-nerf, pre-Domination 2.0 Psychic Shockwave levels) or having to ratchet up the difficulty to the point where nobody wants to make new characters because it's too tough, leaving the opening zones dead.
Jurassik's car should do that at the very least!
I am more referring to thing like IH from toggle to click. Yes I know I bring it up all the time. That was a bad nerf, not because IH didn't need adjusting, because it did. The power was flat out over powered. However, it could have been fixed w/o making it a click. They actually did fix it as a toggle at one point., still they changed it to a click.
Wanting to nerf things like +rech baffles me though. As the devs have proven, they can make the game harder w/o nerfing characters. The UG is a good example of what happens though. We are not here to lose, we get to do that irl every day. We come here to win, to do those things that we can't do in real life. This is a super hero game, and it is going to be hard to convince me that super hero can be over powered.
It is not the hero that is over powered, it is the setting that is underpowered. Zones like DA show that the setting can change, and the challenge can be brought back, all while still allowing the players to grow in power.
Why people want to bring the character down, rather than bring the environment up is what really baffles me at this point in the game. ED and GDN made sense for that time, for this time it makes more sense to increase the power of the monsters. In my opinion that is. -
Quote:A truth that often makes me wonder if some of the people who post on these boards has ever picked up a comic book.C'mon, Batman and superman wipe the floor with huge mobs all the time. So does Spider-man, and when they're not taking on huge mobs, they're soloing AVs and even multiple AVs at once. The whole point of the Super-Hero genre is to be as ridiculously over-powered as possible.
15. All GMs would have an attack that do enough KB to knock someone to the other side of whatever zone they are in. -
I will never understand the idea of nerfing, or how it creates more fun. :/ The game can be made more difficult w/o taking away things people enjoy.
Let me add to the list.
13: I would make it clear that the post 40 game is balanced around IOs, and that the post 50 game is balanced around IOs and Incarnate powers.
Now Aura_Familia would also hate me hehehehehe.
14: Range would actually be defense. For every 10 feet a character is from a mob they would get an add 5% ranged defense. This would be done to add truth to the statement that "range is defense".
Really I think this thread is fun. There is a lot of stuff in here that I would actually love not hate. Really only the nerf items cause any dislike in me at all. -
Quote:I don't really see that as power creep. I call it progress, it is the same way in table top games. Remember the pre issue 8 days? When you hit level 50 and that was it? Yeah, those days sucked compared to these days where we can constantly look for ways become more powerful.I'm with this, as well. People shouldn't be hitting various defence caps if they don't have strong defences in their powersets. All this leads to is power creep that puts people in a position of HAVING to get extra defences, which then put the powers team in a position of creeping critters ever upward with higher base to-hit.

Quote:Yes...yes you and I would have problems with each other. Recharge is one of my favorite aspects of this game. I was the guy who would buy the ability to attack as often as possible in every game I ever played in. Hero system was Phases (12 iirc), and I would be able to attack on all of them.Horrid Power Rebalances :
Fix Hasten so it was reasonable (ie ratchet it down from 70% to a 25% recharge buff).
Make Domination immune to all recharge buffs. Decrease it's current recharge to 75% of its current as "compensation"
Fix Rage so it couldn't stack at all, it'd work something like momentum. Triggering it a second time would do absolutely nothing. In fact give it a token system which meant it would be greyed out if already active.
I may would even take the time and money to send you things like rotten food in the mail, and not express mail.
And I play a scrapper. I can only imagine how controllers and doms would feel about you. :P -
1. Cars and trucks do damage: Yes this is addressed to those who like to stand in the middle of the road for no reason at all. Getting hit by a car does half health, getting hit by a truck does damage equal to falling from the max fly height.
2. You powers do damage to things around you: Right now you are thinking "How is that bad?" It is bad because each time you go to the hospital they take Inf away from you to pay for the property damage you have caused. This can be circumvented by running what used to be the aura mission at level 30. I would make it so that running that mission would allow you to toggle on or off property damage.
Those of you with a self rez may be smiling right now, but the government gets it's money! Even if they have to doc your wages from the AH, or increase the cost enhancements.
You do have to option of a decreased total amount if you come to the City Office once a month to cover the bill. Much like super group bases.
3. Sharks: Not with lasers those of you who are getting happy. No sharks that attack like those they film flying out of the water because they are attacking seal at such a high speed. These sharks maybe can even jump high enough to hit some low flyers.
4. Max listing cap on items in the AH based on rarity. I personally have billions in inf, so it is not about me. It is more about capitalism run amok.
5. All t9 Armor powers would switch to a function like the old quantum flight. When you click it it is 0 end for the first 60-120 seconds. After that the end cost increases by 1.5 for every 10 seconds that you continue to have it up. There would be no max cost, so it could in theory go up to 200 end per tick.
6. Scrappers, brutes, stalkers, and tanks would get dual pistols as a primary.
7. Scrapper crit chance would increase 2% every 5 levels. This would stack with any other item/power that increases critical chance, and with the current base rates.
8. Brutes would have a 85% resistance cap, to put them below tanks.
9. Tanks would get an increase to their base damage, and damage cap. However I would still be hated for this because it would not be enough to make J_B happy.
10. I would dump all of the old base tech, and have my new and much more competent staff (actually those working there now) rebuild it. Some would love me and say I was the best ever, others would hate me for destroying all of their hard work through the years. To appease those who hate me, I would give them x2 their total (spent and stored) prestige, but as I know how the players are, they would still hate me.
11. Conserve power would go away for melee ATs. They would all get Superior Conditioning in place of it.
12. I would be the most Melee focused Dev ever. For this all those who do not play melee ATs would hate me. To make them love me more, I would give Blasters MA as a secondary.
That is all I can think of now. I am sure I will add more, want it in a new post to keep the thread fresh, or just edit this post?
This was a bit hard, most of the things I come up with are solutions to long requested issues. Like costume and power fixes. -
All I play are melee toons (and a single blaster.) So it is always hasten, or click mez protection.
-
-
Yeah, I agree. The new Mech Set on beta makes it even more apparent.

Quote:It will stay that way. Proof is in the playing. My Staff/EA Scrapper is not lvl 50, IOed, and has 2 t4 incarnate powers (Agil, and Reactive), the rest at t3 (judgement just needs a vr to be t4) and it is still creating a swath of destruction where ever it goes. My wife is a process engineer, and even she says the numbers do not always match real life.Lisa skips into thread grinning from ear to ear.
After I left this thread, I logged on to Victory, and made a new Staff Toon.
Since I left the thread with the sure knowledge that Staff is only as strong as a kitten in the higher levels, I chose a secondary that I knew would keep her sorry tail alive a bit.
I made a Praetorian Staff/Elec Scrapper
I logged into the tutorial, decided I was nuts to make a scrap in Praetoria and rerolled her as a brute.....an angry, Loyalist of a Staff/Elec.
Oh my gosh but she is fun in Praetoria.
She might be doomed in the higher levels, but right now she is a killer.
She kills everyone she sets her angry eyes on...and she rarely dies !
So thank you everyone
Lisa.
Staff works, and works well. Just like KM works and works well, even though people on the boards swore it was crap. -
I have one for you. Acrobatics. Every DA and FA toon had to have it because those sets lacked KB resistance. Now you just get some IOs to cover it.
Or were you just wanting to talk about those two powers?
There are a host of powers in the game that need to be reviewed because of IO's and changing game theory.
Elude is another good example. Most of my SR toons have defense in high 60's w/o ever needing elude. Shoot, I don't remember the last time I took a t9 armor click. I can build around almost all of them.
I blame the crash mechanic. It was stupid then, and it is stupid now. There are so many better ways to balance even a god mode power than a crash at the end. -

Quote:My stance on this was different when they were first released. I no longer feel the same. There is not anything in the packs that is not useful to me, except the Black Wolf which I have. Funny, I got it from the first pack I purchased with a reward token.Just about the only part of this I'd even come close to label "gambling" would be the single Black Wolf card.
Oh, I also spent 33 reward tokens on Super packs.
Out of all of it though, my favorite cards are the reward merit cards. I love the 100 merit card, and anytime I get the 75 and the 100 merit card in the same pack I giggle like a little girl.
Super packs also made Enhancement Modifiers useful. ALL of my Staff/EA scrapper's enhancements are at +5. Yes it makes a difference, in saved slots, and how several other things. -
I have spent at least $200 on packs, and will spend more. I really like everything in them. For a long time I looked at the inspirations as clutter. Then I started using them in TFs and iTrials and I will say for sure they make a HUGE difference.
Yeah, I love the super pack. Life willing I will buy just as many of Super Pack 2 *** I did of 1. -
-
I used the survey to Voice that the market should have the rest of the CoT parts, and the Black Knight Armor.
-
I know, but it is always better to be clear.
Quote:When I think of post apocalyptic, I think of Fist of the Northstar....so we need to add Gumby-Physics to the game. -
Done. The last question I had to put other, because it is a tie between Costumes and Powers.
What do you want to see added to the store?
1. The rest of the CoT costume options.
2. The Black Knight Armor from Nightward.
3. More Powers.
4. More costumes in general.
5. Custom Power Animations
6. Custom Weapon Packs.
7. To be able to purchase anniversary badges that I already have on my account with other characters. -
It was more of a joke.
Quote:To me, Rad isn't interesting probably because what makes Radiation truly formidable is that it's invisible. It's a force not perceived by the eyes and goes mostly unseen...radiation could be destroying you from the inside and you not being able to tell until it's too late.
Still, I find anything new for melee pretty exciting. In my opinion Thrown weapons should have been more a melee set that a blaster set any way. Ever actually throw a knife? It is not going to do much at the range blasters tend to work at. However that logic did nothing when DP was added to the game. :/
