Well, the problem with EC is that it simply takes too long to deal less damage than comparable tier 9s. If you want some object comparisons, EC takes 2.772 seconds to deal 164 damage (59.2 DPA). Headsplitter takes 2.508 seconds to deal 187.1 damage (74.6 DPA), Midnight Grasp takes 2.244 seconds to deal 189.9 damage (84.6 DPA), Greater Fire Sword takes 2.508 seconds to deal 194.43 damage (77.5 DPA), and Golden Dragonfly takes 1.98 seconds to deal 164 damage (82.8 DPA). EC takes nearly a full second longer than Golden Dragonfly to deal the exact same amount of damage. That has always stuck in my craw.
I like the animation, I wouldn't want it to change, but the hovering could be reduced for about the same effect. Otherwise I'd just suggest they increase the damage to compensate properly instead, as I love the animation so much, even the hover time. It's like "oh sh#t" you're going to get it now!!!" Love it

Another suggestion to round it out might be to provide some degree of AoE damage to it a la Thunder Strike (~50 damage, 8' radius). The explanation could be you hit them so hard, the wind itself damages their nearby allies. It wouldn't make the powerset better in ST situations (which is being addressed by reducing the animation time) but it would provide some much needed AoE performance for the set (since it lacks the ridiculous utility that DM has).
Um, MA doesn't get Thunder Strike i'm confused. Also, DM lacks WAY too much aoe damage. IMO the utility NOWHERE NEAR compensates for this. hence why i've made 3 DMs and have either deleted, or permanantly shelved all of them.

And to the last part which I don't feel like quoting as I'm on my 3rd triple shot before RUSHING out to a party in the streets , MA is definitely underperforming. It's a "fun" set, but when that wears off and you're left with its low performance as well, that hurts it too much for me to be regularly playing my MA's . I LOVE cones. And as stated as it makes FAR too much sense as well, if storm kick and crane kick were made in to their proper cones, the set would be fun enough, actually, even if underperforming still even with those powers as cones, that I'd has enough fun with its animations that I'd play it almost so regularly as my main (far too many toons to have "A" main) :P)

But I'm off for the night, so take what I said with a grain of salt, some pepper, some spices, your choice of vegetable and meat, make a gourmet healthy meal, and then be in perfect bliss and get back to me .

P.S., made "chunk" ratatouille with chicken, zuccini, yellow squash, and egglplant, with chunks of chicken, olive oil, several herbs/spices, and then dipped it in creamy Point Reyes Blue cheese. Its a very healthy, and very light + tasty meal, I suggest you try it! (350 degrees for an hour, cut squash'es into 3/4 inch thick circles, and then into 1/4ths, same for the chicken'ish pieces, mix in a bowl with the olive oil and spices, top with paprika, and cream the Point Reyes blue cheese with a *tiny* bit of butter and tiny bit of milk to give it a creamy consistency but not take away from the flavor and make a dressing-like dip for the ratatouille chunks, its very good , sorry to ramble, I really need to get going lol) Have fun, and healthy enjoyments!!!

P.P.S. this game rocks so much to keep my attention at this point as you can clearly tell that I love the community so much to keep posting here when I'm late to get out to party *hugs to peeps* (yes laugh all you want, life is wonderful for such priceless moments )

I'm Outie!!! Wish me luck on the night!!!

    Ss/sr/mu?

Was bored and was wondering what people think about this build. Should be pretty sturdy, never played red-side, with going rogue i'd probably only get to 20 and then port over to heroes.

Capped defense outside of aoe which is pretty close, high regen and good HP bonus.

  3. As i've said a million times on the subject a while ago, what they need to do, is turn Storm Kick into a melee cone, and turn Crane Kick, into a mini cone like that of headsplitter/golden dragonfly, which makes far too much sense that it shocks me it doesn't work this way already. For such a powerful kick, it makes complete sense that the force of the kick would travel through multiple opponents and knock them back as well. As does the melee cone on storm kick make sense too.

It seems to me that it would also make sense that cobra strike could have a -resistance effect to it.

It can knock whole spawns off of cliffs. How is that not cool?

Edit: And fighting +4s it becomes KD, so fu, spin, eviscerate, shockwave becomes and insane amount of aoe output. Too bad we can't have claws/sd.
Another reason why to pick up shockwave, when you can manage your end, even though its a cone, look at shockwave's DPA. it has a what 1.07s activation time? Its actually one of your best "single target" attacks to use if when you're end is managed.

Wrong wrong a million times wrong. It PAINS me to see people skip siphon power. There will be countless bosses and most importantly AVs where its INVALUABLE for. Especially when you're 3-4 stacking it giving you more damage than FS alone, by a very noticeable amount, and also very importantly debuffing the AVs damage in the process. Which is VERY important especially as a fire/kin, so the AVs don't one shot your imps which they so easily do (not sure if pets *can* be one shotted like we can't anymore, but they certainly don't fare well in general up against an AV)

Siphon speed, a million times yes. As mentioned, more recharge is always good when its in the form of a perma-power as well. The extra speed is a nice bonus, and VS bosses/AVs the debuff is quite useful even if you have immobilize. *stares a EVIL mean stare at diabolique*
  6. Definitely take it. Its best use is casting a quicksand on a corner, then pop shot the mob so they come after you as you duck around the corner, that way they all bunch up in the same spot on the quicksand, right before they get to the quicksand, lay down VG right where the quicksand is, and it'll maximize its effectiveness at holding the herded mobs together and then gassing them. All risk free too.

Was going to mention this, it's much better as a defender set. That said its not a BAD blaster set. But it does lack in the aoe department.

If you're going to roll a sonic blaster, i'd suggest a sonic/mm, and later getting the elec mastery, so you can have a cone attack chain of howl, psy scream, and static discharge, which can be quite devastating. Shout is also far just a little too slow.

In all the posts i must say though that I love the sound effects for the set, call me crazy I know :P. I suggest you take a look at the guide in my signature for some advice on the matter.
  8. You may also want to take a look at this post I made a while ago while bored at work, giving a good quantitative means of survivability pre-battle/mid-battle for different armor sets mainly based around max hp, defense, and resistance.

I've always done this, thankfully the crash doesnt lower your accuracy also, I'll still attack to maintain aggro through it sometimes. But I always show damage buffs, the first thing At the top of my window for combat attributes, on all my characters, but i think i might have started it for my SS, that or my kineticist to see how much of a buff I was getting :P

P.S. they need to let the CA window be larger to show more data, having a cap of 10? attributes isn't enough on some of my toons.

  11. However since I have so much fun with all of the axe powers, better string chains for maximum knockdown vs bosses I made this build I use. With ninja run i'd probably ditch superjump and pick up one with the shield with a little re-working around:

  13. I was going to say sounds to me more like you're leaning towards a scrapper.

However on the tank subject, shields sounds like it's up your alley. Can be made sturdy but offers you the damage/aoe you seem to want.

As to the attack set, from your playstyle, which I totally get behind, you might be looking at something like mace or axe. They have several aoe powers, including their signature "beheader" type power in pendulum/cleave and shatter/crowd control.

Unfortunately the aoe is kinda low till 26. But then you get shield charge at 26 and whirling axe/mace at 28 so it's not so bad and those levels can go fast.

But either shield/axe or shield/mace sound to be exactly what you're looking for, as those were the points I was mainly looking for when I decided to roll my shield/axe tank.

In this build you would have to have the recharge proc average 20% or more recharge consistently in order to do so. With mob depletion, animation times, Which would even with the proc firing every time on foot stomp would leave you with it 77%ish already if it were to fire off every single time foot stomp was available), factor in fire rate of the proc, what that does to foot stomps recharge as well for the fire rate of the proc, herding, moving to the next mob, boss killing/straggler killing. You might be lucky to average that 20%. I can concur with all these things you can get pretty darn close. But realistically it might not still even then.

What I HATE is when people say something like this is "possible" when realistically it is not. Sure lots of things *are* possible, but when it messes the build up so much, common sense states that it *isn't*.
  15. Quote:
I disagree with this, Taunt is useful at all levels if you intend to tank... it's a ranged, autohit, AOE. I find it useful several times every mission to snag loose aggro.
I'm used to pre-planning all my builds, and using taunt auras. 18 is not long before you get invincibility, especially when your defenses are still minor to be taunting.

    Quote:
RPD is nice to have, and I typically plan to get it sometime in the 20's... there's too many more important powers to get earlier so it has to wait a bit. Hasten is useful, but most Invuln builds are very tight and don't have a lot of room for extras and in my opinion hasten's an extra.
I generally hold hasten off till 24ish or so. I was pointing out how i'd suggest it instead of taunt (then again i'd suggest most anything over taunt at that level) Hence also the RPD suggestion as well. Taunt doens't work very well when your dead :P

Big part of being a tanker pre-20 (in invulns case 18 with invincibility), is not taking as much aggro as possible all the time, especially before your defenses can handle it, Its more about taking the alpha, and keeping most of the aggro what you can to bring the total death toll lowest, and running the best pace. That doesn't happen if you're trying to take all the aggro all the time and dying. The lower levels were designed for this, as enemies generally don't hurt as much, meaning that the team can take a few more hits comparitively to compensate for this.

Sure its tough to want to admit that, you don't want the team taking hits as a tank, but you have to be realistic at those levels.

As far as Shield Charge, Castle was unaware that the power was scaled the way it is - that being quite overpowered. The issue is mainly that during the last revision, the power was scaled using the Brute scale damage as the base and thus all versions are overpowered. The fact that the higher-scale damage is applied to the whole 20' radius is secondarily incorrect and overpowered.

The power will be altered, but it has not been stated how exactly. As for the time frame for the alteration - none was given, but Castle did mention that he'd have to consult with others before implementing any alteration, and that it was not going to take precedence over more pressing concerns.

So, Shield Charge will eventually get nerfed, but we don't know exactly how or when it will occur.
Well from the values i've seen i think, its not exactly a nerf. Granted I'd prefer much if it remained the way it is, but the change will basically give it more damage to those in direct melee, and less to those on the outskirts of you. I do think that the "3 feet" should be 8 or 10 feet around you for the higher damage portion though like most normal aoe attacks are. Still though i'd prefer its current form, the damage is more evenly distributed.

Yes, actually. It does work that way in-game. It's been tested.
Just informing of the update, but it no longer doubles in health by having health slotted, same for PP and other powers as well.

    It's a blast!

(now, at 437%, i would be regenning at...a tic every 3-4 seconds?)
If that's your total regen, 437%- 178% from base/health slotted = 259%, if you're using mids, when you posted this IIRC it was still bugged by doubling the numina/regen tissue bonuses, giving you 214% bonuses, which is 6% shy of being a tic every 3 seconds.

  21. Considering Invincibility is one of if not the best auto-hit taunt auras aside from maybe chilling embrace, and that I largely don't find taunt to be that necessary for almost any tank if you play them right, i'd strongly advise against taunt, especially that early anywho (if i do pick it up, its in the late 40s for AVs if that).

TI should be slotted first, and all the toggles, when stamina is achieved are fine with 3 slots for either resist (TI/Unyielding) and defense (invincibility). They are relatively low on end cost, and aside from attacking invuln is very good on endurance, so it's all easily manageable without the end reductions on the toggles for now.

You'd be better off picking up hasten, instead of taunt (mainly for dull pain, and attacks of course) though I usually pick it up around 22/24, and pick up the tier 2 or 3 attack instead of taunt.

Likewise RPD is good to get to stack on your s/l resistances, especially in the earlier levels, as well as the DDR it grants for you.

As to the travel/pre-req, I always suggest combat jumping. For added defense with invincibility, but also largely for the combo of it + hurdle for combat mobility.

I also suggest 3 slotting health asap, especially for the moment you hit 22, to place SOs in it. As DP is your only form of "heal" the regen from health becomes quite useful to an invuln tanker (plus IO placements of numinas/regen tissue unique later)
