Way go to, gratses! It is indeed a fun arc to play.

Woah, wait, PvP sets are not unique?! I always thought they were!
(BTW, why are you using PvP procs? Achilles' Heel isn't unique, and the Gladiator's isn't all that different from, say, Mako's).
But anyway, a slightly less insane build (still uses one Panacea set tho!):

I'm pretty sure that the ambushes that "home in" onto the player ignore the aggro caps (they may displace non-ambush mobs), whereas ambushes that just make the spawn run to a location, such as those of the destructible objects in the bugged longbow map in the Architect, do not.
This is very easy to see in the 5th mission of the arc. If you make things go splat fast you can easily have two ambushes on you; all the mobs from BOTH ambushes will open fire on you as soon as they see you, whereas mobs coming from the portals summoned by the Comm Officers in those ambushes will ignore you because you're way over the cap.
The last mission makes it sometimes hard to see simply because Nemesis and Rikti troops will duke it out in a massively chaoutic battel -
A 460 Gb (no, it's not 500 Gb no matter what the box says) 2.5" external, USB-powered hard drive.
A laser printer to replace my old and very beaten up and expensive to run inkjet.
I got exactly what I wanted! Unsurprising, since I bought it myself -
Quote:Really? Drat. Well, maybe not drat, I'll have to rethink my BS/Regen build then (nowadays she goes around with SOs and a handful of generic IOs, pre-I5 level 50 so I never bothered IO-ing her out ). Still, stupidly high recharge is never wasted on Regen. Then again, that has to wait until my really expensive project is finished, _that_ is going to take a while.Unenhanced, it's basically dead even with Head Splitter -> Hack -> Disembowel -> Hack. But for that kind of recharge, you can stick a purple set (and proc) plus an Achilles' Heel in Hack. The four attack chain should then pull ahead.
Merry Scrapper Christmas to everyone! Living in the future, it's Christmas day already here in Kiwiland, and it's very quiet until the BBQ later this afternoon. Good times. -
Quote:Hack -> Disembowel -> Headsplitter ftw.I'd postulate Parry -> Hack -> Head Splitter -> Hack -> Disembowel as being the best chain for single-stacked Parry, particularly if you can fit an Achilles' Heel in Hack. But it takes a lot of recharge (+219%) in Hack to bookend Head Splitter like that, so it's definitely an end-game chain. And with Shields, you would probably be better off soft-capping melee without Parry and going for Head Splitter -> Hack -> Disembowel -> Hack. That would do some serious damage if built properly.
(Or if you want to be a wuss, Parry -> Disembowel -> Headsplitter).
Talk about high recharge requirements though! -

Take your favourite scrapper, set the difficulty to +N/x8 (where N is the level you're usually comfortable facing during normal missions, I set it at +3 with my Elec/Shield and my DM/Inv, the only ones that have tried this so far).
Rikti War Zone: The Horror of War (Dark Watcher's arc).
Now, I want you to get to the last mission. In that last mission, get to the last room. In this room there's an AV waiting (conveniently reduced to EB if you feel like it), Hro'Dtohz. What I want you to do with him is pull him to the front of the room (just where you entered) and fight him there with whatever adds he brings. In fact, make sure you've got some extra adds around you.
When he hits low health, the real fun starts. After the cutscene, finish him off, hit the next AV in the face a few times (to make him mad at you) then go and destroy three out of the four generators. You can destroy all four if you feel confident you won't faceplant for extra adenalinage.
After all that is done, clear the room. Use whatever means necessary.
You're welcome ^_^ -
The other reason to take Darkness Mastery is if you are after particular sets, as the pool has a wide variety of effects and it can take many different sets (including purples). However, that's even more of a corner case, as it tends to apply to specialized builds; most scrappers will get more mileage from the more useful powers in the other pools. Still, if there's something specific in the IO world you're after, it may be helpful.

Southern hemisphere ftw!
EDIT: And by that I mean we have no snow here -
Quote:That's the gist of it. It's not that I can't store links - I can easily write the form so that it will parse the link and save it somewhere. The issue is that I cannot make _my_ webserver automatically download the file from another webserver that you submitted a link to. The idea of the screenshot submission is for us to have our reference of the people who submitted screenshots (as in the file itself, not a link) that we can depend on.I'm guessing its because that particular host is trying to be careful of script kiddies who will create scripts and use em for nefarious purposes. A side effect of that is not allowing scripts/utilities for legitimate reasons - they just don't want to open that particular can of worms.
So it's not like I can't save the link somewhere in a text file, that's trivial. The thing is that I can't make the webserver follow that link and download the image to put it somewhere in our repository - the image itself. It's an understandable limitation when it comes to security for a commercial web provider. I could do this with my own home webserver, but its reliability proved not to be as good after I moved to New Zealand (I'm out in the woods here, so the DSL I get is pretty crappy ).
So, at that point, it's much better that, if someone has trouble adjusting to the size limit, to just send an e-mail with either the link or the oversized screenshot, because there's several eyes monitoring that e-mail address and it'll be a lot easier to track, whereas it'd be more of a headache to monitor the webserver and see who sent a real screenie and who sent a link. Then we can manually put it with the other screenies. -
AFAIK, their Vengeance doesn't give any AoE defense (or at least less, my AoEs hit at 95% when attacking vengeanced Nemesis whereas other atacks get a substantial reduction). Not sure how much that'll help with Katana, as you only have one AoE labelled as such, but if you have an AoE from the ancillaries (what's your level again?) it may help.

Quote:What I'm saying is that it's not a limitation, it's an advantage.Aliana, That is exactly my point. If you're dragging stuff around to take advantage of the recharge times you are limited by the recharge times. You can be far faster around a map bound by a 5-7second recharge (FSC, Footstomp) than 2 26 second ones.
If you're dragging stuff around and waiting to use your 2 big hitters, you're wasting time. I'm not debating the ability of Elec/SD to obliterate spawns. I'm just saying, in the context of a farm (what the OP was asking about) a faster recharge, lower damage AoE is the best option.
While the things are recharging you clump together mobs past your aggro caps, which means you hit them all and them some. You leverage your AoEs better this way.
And as I pointed out, you destroy TWO spawns every 26 seconds, not one. TWO. Unless you're destroying single spawns in considerably less than 13 (including travel) the shorter recharge of footstomp/FSC is not such a great advantage. Or in other words, you have to wipe the spawn in a single cycle of your AoEs, which I really don't see happening in +3/x8 - the most profitable setting according to Cat's Hour Challenge.
The advantage of having 25+ mobs around you and using both nukes are: both LR and SC are fueled by Build-up, you have the cap of AAO buffing you with both attacks, and you always hit the maximum number of targets - after the first cast the minions that got hit die, freeing up "slots" for you to hit things with the second cast, which kills the wounded lieutenants and whatever minion it happened to hit too. Huge spike damage like that also prevents the low-on-health annoyances that you may not be able to stop with a more constant damage output, tier 9s/Dull Pain/Healing Flames/Nemesis' variety of annoyances/etc. You can still (and you should) throw fireballs at the mobs that are coming towards you while the nukes recharge. And if you didn't drag the aggro cap towards the second spawn, you'll aggro a few of that second spawn's mobs, so you TS them too.
Nuking spawns from orbit by pairs has considerable advantages.
Quote:Edit: aaaand all this talking about it is making me want an elec/sd. Noooooo -
Quote:If your AoEs recharge in 6s, sure. If they recharge in 13 and 26 (Fireball, Nukes) then no, you're not wasting any time because you take advantage of the recharge times to move and position things.Dragging mobs behind you is faffing about because unless you move really slowly, you're wasting time waiting for them to catch up before you unload your AoEs.
Quote:While I love the FFB proc, Thunderstrike has a tiny radius. If you're getting it to proc every time you're doing a lot more positioning than someone has to do to get the most out of FSC or Footstomp.
Quote:Now, if you can alternate LR and SC and use something like Fireball to finish most of them off then it might be a different matter. But if you're using both at once and dragging stuff around, you could definitely be going faster. -
Quote:It's not high damage vs high damage, it's high damage vs. ridiculous even higher damage. When you drag an aggro cap worth of mobs into a second 8-man spawn and let loose both big guns, you pretty much kill both spawns, specially if you're on a "farming" mindset and you're hopped up on inspirations. You don't "faff about," you drag the stragglers around simply because they're no threat and dragging them around is going to kill them anyway with no extra effort on your part.Whereas someone with a more readily available AoE like FSC or Footstomp will destroy each spawn in turn rather than faffing about with dragging mobs around.
Elec/SD works great for farming, but for the best farming performance, constant high damage output > less frequent high damage spikes.
On top of that, the Force Feedback proc on Thunderstrike goes off pretty much every time it's available (i.e., not on the enforced cooldown), and that can be quite a boon for damage output.
More importantly, you have to position the mobs for maximum AoE efficiency. If you have to spend a couple of seconds too many to do it, you lose less damage (relatively) if you're killing with 25-second AoEs instead of 6-second ones. -
Quote:What you do with Elec/Shield is you destroy one spawn, and on the next one you let loose your other AoEs (specially if you have an ancillary/patron AoE) to kill the "squishier" enemies, then simply move to the next spawn. The aggro caps will make sure the mobs you've been hitting come to you (and a few of the "new" spawn, assuming you're at +2-ish/x8), and only a few of the new spawn aggro, when they get there, you let loose the big guns, clean up, and move on in the same fashion if many mobs survived. No, the reason I was saying that as a bad point is because SC and LR are both on a long recharge so you can't consistently use them where as you can TS and SB very often to wipe out mobs. While, you can SC + LR a mob to wipe them out, but then that leaves the next mob with not so stellar AoE, as to why I suggest picking up an epic AoE blast for some extra damage.
Just my personal preference, I'd rather have consistent AoE damage rather than burst AoE damage. As to why I prefer a SS/Fire or SS/Shield Brute to a Elec/Shield Brute villain side.
Works wonderfully.
No, really:

Before ED, my Broadsword/Regen scrapper used to have 6-slotted Team Teleport. It made Shard TFs so much quicker! And it was hilarious

Hm, I had this in my HD for BS/Regen, but I guess it can be adapted for Katana/Regen, hows this look like?:

You still need one character at least 25 to start the arc. If you try accessing the pillar with an under-25 character, it remains dead. Or at least that's how it was last time I tried.
-
Either drop Grant Cover or drop one attack, get Combat Jumping, and slot a Zephyr set. Also, Red Fortune sucks immensely, use enzymes and LoTG +Rech in your defensive powers, and use the slots to make the rest of your build more awesome
Oh, and put the +Rech proc on Thunder Strike, it does nothing on Shield Charge.
Here's a small tweaked suggestion. You'll notice the massive overkill on melee defense, you could replace ToD with a Mako, drop the Red Fortune in Battle Agility, and use the recovered slots to slot up +Resists on Deflection and/or True Grit:

I don't think locking down is the solution. Making lots of mid level TFs is probably better. While it leaves out Pool C/Ds (well, except boss drops), you'll have an easier time recruiting people for TFs with the merit carrot at the end no matter which level.
