A new definition of fun
Not exactly new but it sure is fun.

The aggro cap will always keep you safe from dying anyways
I duoed that (set at +1/x8) with a buddy a couple weeks ago. It felt like a solo, though, since he kept faceplanting. Much fun.
Whatever one has all the fake nems at the end is good too!!

I'm pretty sure ambushes don't ignore aggro caps. I occasionally run a mission with multiple ambushes triggered from one boss. I play on x8. I end up completely surrounded by dozens of bad guys who are just... standing there... hanging out... checking out the scenery. They sometimes even form a well-defined ring around where the original boss was killed.

That's ineteresting, I don't know for sure either way here, but I'd tend to side with Werner on this one

What you're probably seeing is that you're standing at the spawn location, or close to it. So you'll hit the aggro cap, the others will still stand around you, and while some go down, they'll be replaced by the others, and it'll give you that effect. But you'll still only have the aggro cap fighting you at any given time.

This, back when AE hit, some mish was made where it was that diamond end room in that one longbow mish. Anyway, it was set up to have all these ambushes hit in the room, plus the original spawns. It was massive amounts of baddies. So the illusion you are really aggroing them all isn't there. But it is a constant refill of that cap that once my quills touched other enemies outside of the aggro my cap was constantly replenished and always full but never overfull...fun times. Mish got nerfed, bleh.

I'm pretty sure that the ambushes that "home in" onto the player ignore the aggro caps (they may displace non-ambush mobs), whereas ambushes that just make the spawn run to a location, such as those of the destructible objects in the bugged longbow map in the Architect, do not.
This is very easy to see in the 5th mission of the arc. If you make things go splat fast you can easily have two ambushes on you; all the mobs from BOTH ambushes will open fire on you as soon as they see you, whereas mobs coming from the portals summoned by the Comm Officers in those ambushes will ignore you because you're way over the cap.
The last mission makes it sometimes hard to see simply because Nemesis and Rikti troops will duke it out in a massively chaoutic battel

Take your favourite scrapper, set the difficulty to +N/x8 (where N is the level you're usually comfortable facing during normal missions, I set it at +3 with my Elec/Shield and my DM/Inv, the only ones that have tried this so far).
Rikti War Zone: The Horror of War (Dark Watcher's arc).
Now, I want you to get to the last mission. In that last mission, get to the last room. In this room there's an AV waiting (conveniently reduced to EB if you feel like it), Hro'Dtohz. What I want you to do with him is pull him to the front of the room (just where you entered) and fight him there with whatever adds he brings. In fact, make sure you've got some extra adds around you.
When he hits low health, the real fun starts. After the cutscene, finish him off, hit the next AV in the face a few times (to make him mad at you) then go and destroy three out of the four generators. You can destroy all four if you feel confident you won't faceplant for extra adenalinage.
After all that is done, clear the room. Use whatever means necessary.
You're welcome ^_^
