  1. Andy, Zwillinger. You have been an amazing gift to this community. Thank you for being so active with us, so communicative, so willing to hang out and have fun. You are a rare gem, and wherever you end up - be it here or somewhere else - you will be treasured.

I'm gonna keep an eye out for you.

Best wishes to you and your family, Andy. And thank you for being part of OUR family.

    Cheers, man.
  2. @Alisha Shatogi on Virtue here, ready to lead a team.

My buddies are coming, probably have three to five slots filled ALREADY.
  3. First off, thanks to Alisha Shatogi for posting this for me.

For those who don't know me in-game, I used the global @Teege Feel free to keep in touch with me on AIM: teh teejay (yes that's spelled correctly), MSN (though I don't wish to post my e-mail out in public), or Steam: teege00

In the summer of 2004 I first started playing City of Heroes, with the character name "T J" (yes with a space... hey I wasn't even planning on keeping him!) and role played in Galaxy City (Gemini Park to be more specific) far before the Paragon Dance Club or Pocket D was introduced. My first SG with "T J" was The Defenders of Paragon, which is funny because just last night I ran into one of the members (after being out of touch with them for over 4 years or so) and plan to reunite with the others, making sure to stay in touch this time. To spend the end of the game with the fine folks that I started the game with seems like some sort of ironic fate. Even after those substantial breaks here and there, I would always come back to this game because of the community. I've met numerous friends and other great people while on the streets of Paragon City and it's something I'll never forget, as the game was a great way to relax and unwind, or even to get my mind off things when events in real life became very challenging. The game offered us a chance to express, grow, learn, laugh, cry and brought us together in times of need. Heck, some people even got hitched!

To the dedicated folks who worked for Paragon Studios (and not just Miller or Zwill or even Jack, I'm talking everybody from the bottom to the top, old and new), thank you for pouring your time, energy and creativity into a wonderful game. I can only hope you'll quickly find new and rewarding positions, and that your families do not suffer too much due to the situation at hand. To the players I've met during random teams, thanks for the good times and for putting up with myself and some of my silly characters. To the friends I've met, we will keep in touch and continue sharing our common interest in role playing and otherwise, perhaps in the future we'll find another great game that we can once again call home. There are times I didn't get along with everybody, but that's human nature and in the end, Paragon City was OUR home and that's what makes a world of difference.

So I suppose as I come closer to wrapping this up I'll mention a few names (and I typically dislike this because of my memory, so I apologize if I forget anybody) that I've had the honor of playing with and whom made my gaming experience great. Some names from the beginning that ring a bell: Midnight Dream, Ying Ren, Officer Celera, Maggie, Ms. Independence, Xanatos, Korp, Kozzma, Red Switchblade and more. More recently: Gelle, Wolfkin, Tathya, Rose Noel, Lone Philologer, Psi, Merg, Runo, Alisha, and more. CoH was like a second family and I could not be more proud of these people. Thank you for all the good times. I like to think even after the servers are shut down and I no longer control the lives of my characters, they will continue to live on. Here's what some of my more main characters will continue doing:

Luke Hutchinson (aka "Popular" in-game and younger brother to my character below, Commander TJ) continues to take classes at Paragon University where he struggles to stay awake and not flirt with anybody that walks by. Yeah, good luck with that right?

Tobias James Matthews (aka "T J" in-game) continues to run his father's medical company and is often spotted spending his free time in Gemini Park, Galaxy City (where he'll be parked as it all goes dark, since that's where he started).

PCPD Commander Theron Jordan Hutchinson (aka "Commander TJ" in-game) continues his secretive and sometimes distructive lifestyle as a vigilante. Dispite his agenda, corruptive behavior and believing to be above the law, he still vows to watch over the innocent citizens and police officers in Paragon City.

Also I played: Passive, Popular, Athletic, Skater Boy, One Night Stand, Emancipation and far too many others to list I suppose.

Without a doubt it's the end of an era, but not our memories and even as the sun sets over Paragon City rest assured, the skies are filled with heroes ready to fight the good fight and no corporate decision will ever change that.
  4. *Snags that siggy*

You have my support, and what meager funds I can offer. My six-month sub cycle renewed the ninth.

That's not gonna be going to NCsoft anymore...

I shall not touch the stunted and faltering Aion.

I will not deem Lineage 2 worthy of my attention.

I would deny Guild Wars in any of its boxsets my notice or hard drive space.

I shall shun Blade and Soul despite whatever promises it may make.

I will not touch Wildstar no matter what it tries to lure me with.

And dare to use the City of Heroes IP without the developers that nurtured it to be such an enjoyable game and my contempt for your company shall grow to leviathan proportions.

  6. "I can't speak. I can barely breathe. We've all been through so much together, even if we've never met. People have come and gone. Heroes have risen... and fallen. And all good things come to an end. But even if we are to no longer be, heroism is forever.

And the story will go on."

I joined this game in August of 2009, just before the launch of Issue 16. Several friends were really into the game and I was curious. I asked them to send me a trial invite, and I soon subscribed to the game. I came here, to Virtue, the unofficial RP server, in part because I wanted to RP, and in part because it was my friends' home server. I found a friendly, welcoming, rich community.

    That's you guys.

As my characters were born and grew, I made as many friends as they did. I found amazingly generous people, always willing to go out of their way to help. I became acquainted with the community of the Cape Radio, and a bit later, RP Virtue. I became determined to pay all that kindness and all those good times forward, and I can only hope I've touched some of you the way you have touched me.

This game, and this server, are made up of the most faithful, wonderful people I know. I cannot begin to name all of the people I have befriended in this game - my global friend list is something like six pages long - but I want to thank each and every one of you for making this game, this community, what it IS. I've only been here for so long, but it feels like a part of my life.

And even though the game is ending, the friendships and memories we built together will stay. I'm going to hang onto all of that, and all of you, as long as I can.

Thank you for everything, Virtue. It's been a hell of a ride. I can't believe it's almost over.

    I love you all.
  7. Got mine, yay! Finally.

Also, one of the codes in the NA list is being censored by the forum software. :P might want to... fix that...
  8. Oh. Oh my. I can't stop laughing.

    Mako's a brony. I can't stop laughing.

It better be canon! After all, it was published on the CoH official site and by a redname on the official forums.

I really enjoyed the story, and Mako's ranting last night on Virtue during the invasion was pretty funny. (The event itself was fun too - I don't mind invasion events just cause they have such fantastic turnout and tend to generate lots of fun, light RP.)

It's things like this that make me stick with CoH. So thank you for sharing your talent, Arbie Fab! You did a fantastic job. And thank you to all the people who helped put on the event! Can't wait for next year.
  9. Sentinel, the instructions for updating Mids inside the wrapper are upthread:

    2) Right-click on it and select "Show Package Contents"
    3) Open a second Finder window, go to wherever you've downloaded MXDSetup1-954.exe and drag it from there to drive_c/Program Files/Titan Network
    4) Open Contents/Info.plist in the Property List Editor
    5) Change the "Program Name and Path" from

    to
    /Program Files/Titan Network/MXDSetup1-954.exe
    6) Save and close everything
    7) Run MidsHeroDesigner.app, instead of Mid's it will now run the installer.
    8) Click Next until it's Finished.
    9) Right-click on MidsHeroDesigner.app and do "Show Package Contents" again.
    4) Open Contents/Info.plist in the Property List Editor
    5) Change the "Program Name and Path" from
    /Program Files/Titan Network/MXDSetup1-954.exe
    back to
    /Program Files/Titan Network/Mids Hero Designer/Hero Designer.exe

This got me the new version of Mid's.

Apparently the update installer doesn't do anything fancy. This was easier than I thought.

I don't have a place to upload the new version to or I could zip it and provide it.
Just substitute "mxdsetup1-954.exe" for whatever the current version is - 1-960 at the time I'm writing this. You can also edit the info.plist in Text Edit with no problem; you don't need the property list editor.

    Happy building.
  10. AHAHAHAH EEET'S ALIVE!

Thanks U_dark and RogerWilco, and to the Titan team for Mids!

I too have the mysterious missing power lists but this is a sight better than trying to run Mids on my ancient Windows desktop with no RAM or processor power. Hopefully you guys can chase down the bug and squash it.

    So happy.

    So very happy.

    Squee.
  11. Just throwing things out here without much thought ATM, but...

I love blasters. I have 5 of them, and a 6th on the way when WB goes live. There are about four issues with blaster performance, with a fifth a consequence of one of the others: Snipes, crashing nukes, mezzes, melee power creep, and frequent death. So here's vague, half-baked ideas! (or completely baked, like my brain. Due to the heat out there. Ugh. 86F...)

Snipes: If snipes got a treatment similar to what Stalkers got with AS I would be fairly happy; some way to justify using them in an attack chain. Perhaps no-interrupt and faster activation when you have a given number of stacks of defiance, at a tradeoff of lower damage. I liked the idea upthread of a splash fear attached to an out-of-combat snipe, as well; and maybe also a thematic bonus to being buffed with BU/A.

Nukes: Crashing isn't fun. I'd perhaps be willing to accept a soft crash? Removal of the -recovery? Arcana has already hit this balance question with ULTIMATE MATH in another thread somewhere, but my search-fu fails me at the moment.

Mezzes: Probably actually my lowest priority of all the blastery issues, but is a major topic of discussion here. I'm surprised no one has mentioned scaling mez resistance as an idea for Defiance 3.0. Mez resist is "weaker" than prot, and thus may be a compromise with the devs' hesitation to actually give us prot.

Melee Power Creep: We're no longer kings of damage, and the ability to attack from range is WAY over-valued in the metagame; especially considering that every mob has at least one ranged attack. Melee would probably burn down the fora if they were nerfed to compare to us, so clearly we must be buffed. How? More damage doesn't seem to be the solution. What about making range into an advantage again? How do critter ranged attacks compare to ours? Maybe increase our range as a whole? Improve kiting ability?

Death: Ties in with mezzes, because most of the time, we die because we've been mezzed. I take Flame Mastery for Rise of the Phoenix whenever I can, but clearly it's not ideal; never mind that RotP is the best rez in the game. I shouldn't need it, for all my preaching of turning low HP into a WMD. What if we could defiantly get back up? Think Domination, for HP and mez prot, after death, proportionate to the defiance stacks before death. Charging it up somehow... and probably tricky to code.

Discuss. And I apologize for any heat-addled lack of clarity. I'll probably come back to this when I'm more coherent later.

Bone Smasher - Fast-animating, hits for decent damage.
These are all general good advice. Another thing to remember, no matter the blaster you're playing, is to leverage your strengths. Learn what they are with a meatshield around, or with Fulmens' "lab experiments". You'll (hopefully) develop a bit of a "blaster sense" that will tell you "hey I'm about to die now" - and if you get good, you'll know what to do to escape the oncoming death! Also: Use your inspirations! A leveling blaster cannot afford to ignore them. Playing a blaster is life on the knife's edge, which is probably why I love it so much.

I generally build for very high, kind of bursty damage; and also don't IO till 50. It's kind of hard to build for mitigation on a blaster and still have the one thing we're supposed to excel at. Though, I have seen a downright glorious DP/En/Mace blanker who would just chew through spawns. That's right, I said blanker. Blaster-tanker. His build is deep magic to me......

As a blaster... you WILL die. You will die A LOT.

But then when you completely obliterate a +2x8 spawn without breaking a sweat, with maybe two attacks... that's fun.

    Happy blasting.

  14. Everything except crits and procs counts towards that cap: Enhancement value, set bonuses, Alpha, buffs from powers, inspirations, etc. Enhancement value won't report in your Combat Attributes window, and since Alpha functions on enhancements, it too won't report. Assuming you've got around post-alpha ED cap (which should be around 100-113% for Musculature Core Paragon, iirc...) you will have another ~200% to your practical max damage per power. (Remember that you start at 100%, not 0%.) You can, of course, push yourself all the way to the hard cap via miscellaneous buffs, but because of the way damage bonuses are calculated, you have a softcap lower than the absolute hard cap by whatever your enhancement value is.

    http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Limits#Damage

I have no idea what sort of global damage slotting you have, but I as a not-quite-completely-optimized (I can get a lot more out of my build), purpled-out blaster, I have +51% damage as reported out of combat (but with toggles up) in my attributes window. Because of Defiance, in combat I can easily reach +200%, and in rare circumstances (requiring the Gaussian's proc to proc and firing of Build Up, Aim, and the Geas of the Kind Ones accolade) can hard cap my damage.

What it boils down to for Assault Hybrid: If you're at the very high end of damage, take Radial. Otherwise, Core.

    Hope this helps.

Addendum: Damaging Interface powers do not count, as they are a proc, not a buff.
  15. Welcome to the game, Marvels! You picked a good one. It's a good game, great community, and has one of the best dev teams in existence. I've been playing for just about two years.

Virtue and Union are the unofficial RP servers. Freedom is the largest server (possibly after Virtue?). Justice is also full of awesome people. I've never played on any of the other servers, but no matter where you choose to create your character, you'll have a great community to help you out.

I'm going to echo the recommendation of Paragon Wiki, best resource for the game and has a few beginner guides to boot.

Quick tip for costume creation when you get into the game: Don't forget that you can UNCHECK "Costume Colors linked", below the color palette, to have more than two colors in your appearance.

And if it's the desired goal to have it pull out something different for each person, is there a possibility we could miss out if it happens to pull out something we already have? Or are the only things on the table going to be rewards you can have more than one of? (like no costume piece unlocks, because once you have one of those, you can't get another of the same one, but enhancements might be on the table since you can always own an extra LOTG or something and pass it off to an alt? Just some of the things I'm wondering about.

I have these same questions. I have bought a lot of stuff on the market. Costumes! Inventory expansions! Powersets! Etc. How random is random, what's included/excluded in the freebie pool? I'm expecting lots of consumables to be the free stuff but I would not argue in the least if permanents were included.
  17. AAAHH THE WORLD IS ON FIRE ALL HOPE IS LOST NOOO!

*wanders off, gets a sandwich. Fires up a console game.*

    Welp.
  18. On the note of ports, why are the Carnie masks and head details only in the Standard heads category? Can maybe have in Hoods and Hats too?
  19. Rest in peace, Salsa. You will be greatly missed.

I'm speaking solo with this, but I know that I have to take far more hits (whether they are dodged or not), or mez for much longer to drop a boss or an EB with my Corruptors and Defenders.

Sure, on a team you can think that your buffs or debuffs are helping a lot (and they probably are). But Blasters are just lots of fun solo and teamed. That screaming, explosive playstyle is a lot of fun.
Because I've always loved glass cannons, since I started gaming.
Because coming from a mage in a certain other game, Blaster was the logical choice.
Because some of the flashiest powers in the game are blast set tier 9s, and I'm a sucker for shiny.
Because leveling a Blaster and finding the point where they really bloom is more tangible and satisfying than that point with any other AT.
Because I'm a minmaxer and there's something hilarious about minimizing defenses and maximizing offense and STILL coming out on top.

    I don't play a Blaster.

    I am the blast.

    Game on.
  24. Uh, wow. I... did not know we were getting plugged on the forums. XD

Hi! I'm the leader of Special Section 15.

Special Section 15 is an espionage/black ops themed heavy RP supergroup, focused on good storytelling, character-driven and story-driven RP. We have fun with mystery, drama, action, and a dose of comedy for our usual RP fare. Casual players, serious RP.

Hit up our site to apply - it's getting renovated (along with several other aspects of the SG) but we do have the app up and recruiting is open.
