7) What's the deal with Praetorian Infernal? Supposedly Infernal was already from a different dimension, why is there another version of him? Are Praetorian and Primal Infernal from the same dimension, or are there "Praetorian" versions of alternate dimensions?
8) What was the rest of Praetoria like? Aside from the locales we've seen, what was the overall status of the rest of that world? Are other countries like France, Italy, Germany, etc., still around there, or is the majority of the world gone?
As an extension of question 8 posted by Android - what are the Praetorian Rogue Isles like? Are they similar to our own? who runs them? I always imagined them to be a democratic society (i.e the mirror opposite of Nova Praetoria) -
So many lore questions, so little time....
1. Was Sister Psyches death going to have a profund effect on Manticore (i.e. was he going evil)?
2. Was Scirocco going to be redeemed?
3. For those who didnt/can't/won't see Beta - which Praetorians survived and what became of them.
4. Was Lord Recluse going to be redeemed and what was on the cards for Arachnos?
5. Tell us the full story of Mender Silos and Ouroboros! Were they good guys or evil? Were we right to trust them?
6. What WAS the coming storm (other than an invasion)?
7. What happens at the end of Pandoras Box?
8. Does Desdemona continue as the leader of the Carnival of Light? What becomes of them in any event?
9. Was there ever going to be a Praetorian Stefan Richter?
I cant think of anything else at the moment. -
Quote:Tater I am glad you posted this because I have a DP/Poison who is perhaps the most "challenging" toon I've ever made. She is so "challenging" that I am determined to get her to 50 and make her Uber. After reading everyone elses critique about poison in general i was feeling a touch downhearted however your post made me feel better!
What I slot Poison Trap with-The rest of poison is pretty easy to proc but With Poison Trap...I have found out that Purple is better lol...the power might become even more deadly once we get the Proc change but for now the way things works it's in your best interest to stuff it with proc goodness!
- Lockdown: Change for +2 Mag Hold- This is a must for obvious reasons...the more traps out the more chances of them all being held.
- Fury of the Gladiator: Chance for Res Debuff- Another must if you have deep enough pockets. Add this to the Achilies Heel Proc and your toon will easily be able to dish out -100% + Res on foes...if they survive long enough.
- Superior Malice of the Corruptor: Recharge/Chance for Negative Energy Damage- It's super cheap to turn this into a purple and it's a PPM Enhancements so it has a greater chances of firing ect blah blah.
- Unbreakable Constraint: Chance of smashing Damage- Smashing dmg is gross but 107.1 dmg procing a few times ain't bad!
- Armageddon: Chance of Fire Damage-Fire dmg! Awesome woot!
- Add whatever... would you like..ACC? Recharge?...my toon is 53 so he's covered...i think i had 1 acc and 1 recharge in there when I was leveling.
Remember, /Poison isn't for everyone and it doesn't really shine until you get ageless and some great defense (Kind of like a Fire/Earth Dom or a Fire/Kin Controller) but if you are willing to torture yourself repeatedly then this is the set for you!
I hope this helps guys and let me know if you can even understand what I just typed...I admit my spelling sucks and I am mildly insane lol.
Could I ask your opinion on one point? My build went with five Unbreakable Constraints in Poison Trap because I am a huge recharge junkie and wanted the 10% recharge bonus - but as my corr is only 28 I havent tried it yet. Would you say that filling poison trap with procs will get me more mileage than Unbreakbables? Baring in mind that the ONLY reason I went with unbreakable is because I want that recharge! -
Quote:To be honest I no longer consider emps and astrals the be-all-and-end-all. For me its the journey to 50 thats fun not the endless grind after you get there. I have 1 toon with everything unlocked and I will probably take her down the full incarnate path as and when I feel like it.if you can think of another way to get threads emp and astral merits im sure everyone open to suggestions
maybe make available in market or in lvl 50 missions?
With my other toons, I'll unlock Alpha certainly because I actually quite enjoy Ramiels arc and getting T4 alpha through shards may be slow but at least theres a certain amount of variety to it with the WST etc and actually making a powerful toon WITHOUT incarnates is still a full challenge I am up for.
Quote:I remember my first TPN. I had no idea what I was doing but I was sure that attacking certain things was a no-no because of badge reasons. When one of the citizens threw a Molotov cocktail at me, leaving the ground on fire.
I never fought back, but I was instantly accused of using "burn" to attack the civilians.
Why that person felt it necessary to call me a "****" over this I'll never understand.
At the end of the trial I quickly left kinda laughing because I knew my friends were waiting to "dogpile" on that person.
One of my less-than-brilliant moments was getting all the way to the flyer on an MoSTF and then I got two shotted and died instantly (this was back in the day before incarnates and when the MoSTF was one of the biggest challenges in the game)! It was my fault. I was playing a controller and got too close! The team had every right to have a go at me but they were cool. Their attitude was "Maybe next time". Can you imagine what would have happened if I'd have made a similar error on an iTrial? -
My Corr is at 29 at the moment. Shes DP/Poison and I have a love/hate relationship with her. I do nothing about bi**h about how squishy she is yet for some reason.... I cant stop playing her
-
Would it be controversial to say I am pig sick of iTrials?
I know people want the badges and the ixp et al but some people these days just take them FAR too seriously. God forbid you make a mistake like accidently using an AOE on mission two of MoM or slip up and target a camera accidently on mission one of TPN and WOE BETIDE anyone who runs ahead when bomb hunting on the Underground or attacks the bunkers too early during a Keyes!
I've been on iTrails when someone (not me) has made a mistake and the remarks and attitude from the rest of the league and the leader has genuinely surprised me! This is, after all, only a game. Are we not meant to be enjoying ourselves? Yes its disappointing if we dont succeed or miss that badge we've all been chasing but thats the whole point of a challenge isnt it?
Yes I know I should be watching chat for leader commands but thats a bit bloody difficult when you're up to your eyeballs in +3 Praetorian Guard all of which want to hand you your a** on a plate! And guess what? I'm a male and I cant multi-task!!
So I have decided to give iTrials a wide berth for the time being and with this in mind I have created two or three new characters in both Paragon and the Rogue Isles and playing them through rediscovering all the old content that I had long forgotten!
Do you know I am actually enjoying myself! I'd forgotten how much fun the Frostfire mission is and I STILL get a sense of achievement from taking him out solo. The four Faultline arcs are still a joy to play and while Croatoa is not my favourite area in the game, its arcs are still refreshingly different. Even the REALLY old content arcs like On the Run, The Terra Conspiracy, The Library of Souls and The Revenant Hero Project still have a certain charm to them and, imho, the Villain arcs are even better.
Am I the only person out there who feels like this? Perhaps I am, in which case feel free to file my opinion under "Crazed Ramblings of a Madman". But if you also feel that iTrials are no longer fun then let me know.
What are everyone elses views? -
Quote:A pony won't fit my theme. I want a lion! No, because having to skip a power to fit a theme is apparently horrendously unacceptable to some people. Every power should be incredibly useful and fit the exact theme that they have in their heads and they should never have to ever compromise either the theme or performance because that's completely wrong and limiting, so we should get more power picks or free powers and more slots because they can't take all of the primary AND all of the secondary AND all of the power pool picks that they want to fit their theme, and while the devs are at it why don't we all get free ponies just for having an account too?

Quote:Thanks for that. I'll give it a goI got some help in another thread, here's how to do it.
The forums will only allow images from other sites; basically you post a link to an image, not an image itself. So first thing you need to do is find an image hosting site to store your image. I'm sure others may know of more, but I used www.photobucket.com. It's free, just go there and register. You may not want to use your real name as your User ID on that site because your user name is part of the filename for any images you post and anyone who checks "Properties" on your image could see that.
Next you take a screenshot in game. If you want the UI to show up in your image, enter the following command on the chat line before taking the screen shot: "/screenshotui 1". Then, to actually take the picture, just hit "Print Screen" on your keyboard.
All of your screenshots are stored as jpegs in a folder called - appropriately enough - screenshots in your main City of Heroes folder. Go to that folder and pick the image you want in your post. If you want to crop, resize or edit the picture first, you can do so by opening it with MS Paint or something similar. (I used MS Office Picture Manager, because the Crop button is greyed out in MS Paint on my computer, not sure why.)
Now log into photobucket (or whichever site you picked) and upload the image to their site. The site should give you a url name for your image. Make a note of the url (in photobucket, just click on the url and it will automatically copy it to your clipboard. Do not click on the link marked IMG code, click on the one marked Direct Link.)
Now come here to the forums and start a post (or just edit a previous one.) In the forum post editor is an icon that looks like a pair of mountains with a yellow background. That is the Insert Image icon, click on it and a box will pop up allowing you to enter the url of where your image is stored. The box automatically pre-enters "http://" for you. If you're pasting a link into the box, be careful that you don't wind up with two sets of "http://"
That's all there is to it. Don't let this lengthy post fool you, it's actually simpler than it seems. -
Has to be one of my oldest toons, and my ID on the forums. Ace of Hearts, my mind/kin controller
"Although he looks like a mind controller, Ace of Hearts mutant ability is quite different.
This bisexual mutant is actually capable of raising the levels of hormones, testosterone and oestrogen in his body and projecting the affects great distances. what this means is that he is actually able to make any person (man or woman) lust after him and even fall in love.
Furthermore, by picking up on the hormonal levels in a persons body he can detect what "turns them on" and use that power to his advantage. The affects are similar to mind control. He can render foes immobile as they are mesmerised by his beauty, force them to attack their own allies or do anything to please him - even go to sleep! Ace of Hearts ability is not just limited to his foes. He can use his power to make his team mates feel euphoric and therefore stronger and faster.
This man is not just a love machine - he is a human drug! "
Wanted to post a picture but dont know how to do it -
Quote:And why not!
I've done that with Team Teleport (the pool power) before. Someone on the team said "pull?" so I pulled everyone in. -
Quote:Thats the answer I was hoping for. Thanks
1. I'd personally take Oppressive Gloom. I like the version that my Warshade has, and the little ticks of damage are tiny compared to what Dark Regeneration provides you.
Quote:2. I haven't bothered with the chance to Placate proc on a Stalker, but your auras will break Placate when they tick unless you're in Hidden status, when they'll suppress.
Quote:3. Lightning Rod does not critical. It also doesn't break you out of Hidden status, which means you can follow up with a critical <whatever> from hidden status.
Thanks for the reply in any event. Was very helpful -
My experience of Stalkers has until now been rather limited but I made one on a whim a few weeks ago and have suddenly found myself hooked. Who cares if stalkers are underpowered compared with other sets - they're FUN!
So I've decided to make a second Stalker and for concept reasons I've gone with Electric / Dark Armour. He's only level 7 so far but I suspect he may be a keeper.
I do however have a few questions:
1. First of all Cloak of Fear vs. Oppresive Gloom. It seems that these powers are quite similar. They're both toggle PBAOEs, one keeps foes in a state of fear and the other keeps them in a state of stun. My draft build has taken both powers but that seems to be a bit of overkill as the range is the same so I was thinking of taking just one. The question is which one? On the face of it Oppresive Gloom looks the better power but for the hit point drain. Is this HP drain significant? Can you use enhancements etc to overcome it? I like the look of Oppresive Gloom because I can also slot five Absolute Amazements in it (I'm a recharge junkie) but will it hinder my toon more than help it?
2. Fortunata Hypnosis: Chance to Placate. It seems this enhancement was MADE for an electric stalker. I have a spare slot and I'm thinking of putting it in Havoc Punch because that power has the quickest recharge (no room in my build for charged brawl and it doesnt seem to do much damage anyway). Does anyone have experience with this? Is this a good use of a slot?
3. I'm taking Lightning Rod at level 32. If I use this power while hidden does it cause critical hits to a whole group of mobs as well as causing superior damage (I'm hoping the answer is YES )
4. Finally whats a good patron / epic power pool. I like the look of soul mastery because of Shadow Meld but fire mastery also looks tempting - mainly because I can use the immobilise and hold as mules for relatively cheap purples (as I said, I'm a recharge junkie ).
5. I've only skipped two powers out of the entire set - Charged Brawl and Soul Transfer but presumably either Oppresive Gloom or Cloak of Fear is also skippable (but not both). Is there anything else which is absolutely not needed?
Sorry, I'm using up my question quota - so I will leave it at that. Any suggestions will be much appreciated!
Thanks -
I'm probably not the best person to answer this because I've only just entered the world of Stalkers myself a few days ago with my MA/Ninj and hes only level 15.
Personally I use caltrops as kind of a damage-mitigation system. If I'm getting a touch overwhelmed or even if I am waiting for other powers to recharge I throw down a bunch of caltrops and stand on them. The result is that when mobs close in for a melee attack they are usually scattered by the caltrops and it buys me a bit of time to wait for a power to recharge or use an inspiration or even make a mad dash for it.
I would like to repeat that I am only level 15 and I have yet to pick up Hasten. I suspect once I get it and get it to a decent recharge then the need for caltrops in the way I have described would probably less useful. However at low levels they certainly help. -
For me it would have to be my mind/trick arrow controller which I made simply because you very rarely see mind controllers and very rarely see trick arrow ANYTHINGs.
At low levels she was virtually useless on teams - having only really two useful controls in dominate and confusion - levitate and mesmerise were really more damage powers. As for aoe it was even worse. Mass Hypnosis is not very effective on teams. Solo she was a little better - and safer.
But I persevered and was so glad that I did. Shes now an AOE control machine with two aoe holds, an aoe confuse, a fear effect and lets not forget Oil Slick Arrow which is just there to make lots of orange numbers fast.
But where she surprised me the most was solo play. She is perhaps the safest controller I have ever made and so far I have managed to solo x8/+4 Council, Circle of Thorns and Malta (I admit I cheated on Malta by confusing the Zeus Titans and let them do all the work - not much xp but bloody good fun!). I normally run at x8/+1 and she can pretty much take anything in her stride including KoA, Malta, Arachnos and Nemesis. And this was before I unlocked her Alpha Slot!
Shes now my main controller and I look forward to the day when I have the cash to put five Ragnaroks in Oil Slick arrow which I hope will make some pretty sick orange numbers appear! -
Am I the only person that would like a longer bio than 1023 characters?
I was just wondering if this could be lengthened or if there is a reason why the space to write your bio is so short. I appreciate that there has to be a limit but 1023 characters isnt a lot.
Discuss -
Thanks to both of you for your replies. EJI i really like your build and will run with that instead of my own.
Just as an aside, my corrupter is only level 14 at the moment but hes a blast to play and I'm really looking forward to level 16 when I can do Freezing Rain + Rain of Fire! -
Here is my planned build for a fire/storm/dark corrupter. The aim was recharge, ranged defence and endurance recovery in that order. I'm not far off perma-hasten and could probably get it if I bothered to go for purples in Rain of Fire and Inferno and I've just fallen short of ranged softcap on defence. If anyone has any suggestions on how to improve my build I am all ears!

Fire/Rad trolller
Switch on hot feet and choking cloud. Summon imps. Walk into mob and stand there picking your nose while your imps do all the work. All you need to do is throw off the occasional heal and possibly spamming the immobilise so that the mobs dont get any silly ideas and try to run off.
Mine was easily the laziest toon I have ever played. -
Quote:At the end of the day, if the concept feels right to you then it is right. Period.
Therefore, for powergaming reasons, I'm thinking of rerolling as Fire/MM and portraying the Psi attacks as spirit energy. I keep wondering if this will feel 'right' for a phoenix, though. On one hand, you don't normally think of phoenixes as psychics, except for that one Marvel character. On the other, I do like the idea of shredding souls as an avatar of the cycle of life and death. Thoughts?
Note that I'm not asking for playstyle or game mechanical advice. I'm interested in how natural the concept of Fire/MM as a phoenix feels to others, and whether people will keep thinking of that Marvel character when they look at her powersets.

Its true that there are a few copies out there but they are in my experience few and far between. Few male claws/regen scrappers look and feel like Wolverine. Not every SS/inv tank looks and feels like Superman so why should your fire/mm blaster look and feel like Marvel Pheonix unless you purposely go out of your way to resemble her (which I dont condone if any Lawyers are reading )? -
One problem with SnowStorm is that it can attract unwanted attention - particularly when the person it is bound to goes running off into another spawn - something that doesnt happen with Quicksand.
Thats not to say its worse than Quicksand, you just have to be a bit careful using it -
Hmmm.... I'm possibly not the best person to answer this because:
1. I'm fairly new to defenders myself
2. AND I play completely opposite to you. When I play as a Defender I WANT TO KILL - for whatever reason Defenders bring out the beast in me
3. AND at the time I am writing this I've had half a bottle of wine and accelerating.
First of all to answer your questions, when I play on a team (irrespective of what I am playing) I generally feel safer with a buffer on the team as opposed to a debuffer and I prefer both to a healer. Now I generally play as support and ranged toons so no doubt people who prefer melee orientated toons would disagree and I accept that.
If you're asking for powersets that can make you feel most useful without being too damage focused then I suggest you look at what i call the "all purpose" primary sets and the secondary effects of the offensive powers.
For all purpose I would suggest rad, dark, cold or possibly kinetics (everyone loves a Kin) and for secondary effects look at dark for its accuracy debuffs or ice for its -recharge debuffs. Sonic and energy are also nice.
One final point I would make is that at endgame heals are nice and empathy certainly has the best set of heals in the game but empathy is a damn good buff set as well. Too many people forget that (myself included)
Hope my, albeit slightly drunken, observations help! -
May I nominate storm/ice. Definitely a very "safe feeling" set particularly solo because you can easily floor an enemies recharge. Less attacks = less damage. It comes into its own earlier than cold because freezing rain is available a lot earlier than sleet (oh and snow storm compliments freezing rain beautifully at lower levels).
Storm is great with any powers that have a "rain effect" AOE such as Ice, Archery or (when i21 is out) Fire. Sit back and laugh as you dish out death from the sky. -
My latest pet project is a mind/ta and although I have her slotted for damage and solo play the set would make a great "control only" set. You have three hard lockdowns (mass confusion, total domination and emp arrow) and the two soft controls (terrify and mass hypnosis). Chuck in glue arrow, oil slick arrow and even telekinesis and you have a pretty safe character
