STAR WARS EPISODE VII

EW.com spoke with "Star Wars" expanded universe author Timothy Zahn about the news of "Star Wars Episode VII" being a whole new story -- presumably not a film adaptation of his wildly successful "The Thrawn Trilogy."

"The books were always just the books," the author told EW, saying he was actually briefed on Lucas' plans for the sequels and how his novels would fit in to the universe. "The original idea as I understood it— and Lucas changes his mind off and on, so it may not be what he’s thinking right now – but it was going to be three generations. You’d have the original trilogy, then go back to Luke’s father and find out what happened to him [in the prequels], and if there was another 7th, 8th, or 9th film, it would be Luke's children. The Thrawn Trilogy really would have fit into the gap."

I could see that considering the Ages of Hamil, Ford and Fisher.

Timothy Zahn creating the script for the next Star Wars movie would actually be a very good idea. Creating a villain as good as Thrawn would certainly make the movie very memorable.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

Not sure about Ford or Fisher making an appearance but the idea of Hamill getting a cameo as a very old Jedi Master doesn't seem too far fetched to me. I first heard of the concept of the Ep.7-9 trilogy as far back as the late 1970s and back then Lucas supposedly had the long-term plan to get Mark Hamill to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in his 50-60s when Mark himself would be in his 50-60s. To me this just sounds like that pipedream finally becoming reality.

For me it ultimately depends on how far in the future they decide to set the new trilogy of movies - if it's like 50 years after Ep.VI then a Hamill cameo seems plausible but if it's like 100+ years then not so much.

Yeah... even if Luke Skywalker is dead already by the time the new trilogy starts he could always be a Jedi-ghost.

Me, what I want for Episode 7?

I want Thrawn.

And Hamill et al can provide voices for the Pixar-animated Brad Bird-directed Joss Whedon-scripted juggernaut.

Because voices age a lot more slowly than faces.

The only ironic "problem" with Hamill doing more voice acting is that it might sound too much like the Joker...

I'd like to see Dark Empire.... where Luke joins the dark side and Leia has to save him. Can't remember who wrote it, but it was an awesome comic.

Latest rumors:
STAR WARS EPISODE VII

It's all about the "Star Wars Episode VII" rumor mill these days as more and more old "Star Wars" cast members are being interviewed and asked whether they'll appear in the upcoming sequel. Harrison Ford is rumored to have expressed interest in returning as Han Solo and Unleash the Fanboy spoke with original Boba Fett actor Jeremy Bulloch about possibly reprising his role as the fan-favorite bounty hunter.

"Realistically I’m sure if Boba Fett were to return they would go with someone younger, but I’m still fit and can jump around," Bulloch told Unleash the Fanboy. "I’d love to be involved in some way, maybe a cameo as an ageing Bounty Hunter in the corner somewhere."

Finally, Celebuzz reports the rumor that indie director Colin Trevorrow, responsible for "Safety Not Guaranteed," had early discussions with Lucasfilm about coming on to direct "Episode VII" prior to the sale of the company to Disney and remains on the list of potential directors to helm the new trilogy.
