Please do keep having hope but you must be realistic.

What does a list of names 15k names (some are probably doubles or unlegitimate, yet to be proven) mean to a Korean internet company? The millionaire man who owns the company shut it down for a reason, a list of names won't mean anything to him.

Only way to save it will be someone to buy the game, license, patent, entire-company off NC Soft.

Not trying to dissuade your hope but if you do wish to save this game, you must think bigger and not like an American who collects names.

BTW have you read some of those public listed names? They are already obviously fake. You guys will lose credibility.

I'd like to save this game as much too but I just don't agree with this strategy

1) just looked through 100 names... didn't see any "obvious fakes" as you suggest. Doesn't mean that some of them aren't... but that happens on internet petitions all the time.

2) the Korean big wig might not care, but other investors might, and that potential buyer would be included in that. No reason NOT to sign the petition. At that point, even the "fake" signs count as people willing to risk such actions in desperate times. Would you be willing to buy a CoH if no one signed the petition? (And had the money to invest in it, of course.)

'tis what I was going to say Why should we just sit back and let our game fall when we never know if being a RL hero will work? Hasn't playing this game taught you anything? Heck, it's more than a game to ME. It's a part of my life! I met my husband here 2 years ago, and now our daughter has actually started learning to hit the spacebar to make my character jump--at 5mo! I'm going to be devastated if this ends, because there is nothing else like it. I've BEEN trying other mmo's this week, and NOTHING has been "it." :/

First off you assume that it is solely being done to get NC Soft to change their mind, it's not. NC Soft unfortunately has a history of not selling their IP's just killing them. This amongst other efforts is an attempt to persuade them to at least sell the IP, and to show people it's worth buying/investing in. Most people are being realistic, but still attempting to do something even if it may not work.

NC Soft is just a financial funding company that copyrights the games also. They don't have to hold onto this game.

You're all trying to save this game with a petition, but the quesiton is what will the list do? Get what rolling if the money is not available.

Let's say the bank will no longer loan you money for school/mortgage, will you send a petition?

Be realistic, do something bigger. You're all being very defensive because obviously all you know how to do is sign a petition, and you couldnt even read the names that are fakes/doubles.

Anyway, regardless, I signed it 3 times, once as real and twice as fake names and funny you didnt spot them

Don't know what the numbers will even mean because most mmos have a 6 digit subscription-worth number. This petition is still under 20,000.

City of Heroes does not have a 6-digit subscription number and hasn't for quite some time.

Stop calling people trolls just because they don't agree with your posting, that's something an actual troll does.

Neil Gaiman, John Kovalic, John C. Wright & Mercedes Lackey Support Save City Of Heroes Campaign

Author:Jonathan LesterCategory:NewsTags: City of Heroes, Neil Gaiman, Paragon Studios, Save Paragon City!
The fan campaign to save Paragon Studios and prevent City Of Heroes from shutting down is going from strength to strength, with several high-profile authors pledging support to the cause. Stardust author Neil Gaiman, Sci-Fi writer John C. Wright and bestselling fantasy author Mercedes Lackey have lent their voices to the endeavour, both in terms of tweets, blog posts and even direct pleas to NCsoft themselves.

We previously reported that the Save Paragon City! campaign had secured celebrity endorsement, but we know know the extent of their support thanks to another statement from coordinator Tony Vasquez.
Neil Gaiman and John Kovalic (notable Webcomic artist) have retweeted messages of support to over two million followers, originally sent from players desperate to 'save their home.'

John C. Wright (Chronicles Of Chaos, The Golden Age) posted about City Of Heroes on his personal blog, saying "this is practically the only online game I play. Between work and novel writing, I usually only allow myself to play on Wednesdays. Any kind hearted persons out there, please sign the petition."
Mercedes Lackey, an avid City Of Heroes player and prolific bestselling author, personally wrote to the CEO of NCsoft, literally promising to use her fame to help keep the game afloat - with no payment expected in return.

"This, like so many other letters, is a plea to save Paragon Studios and the City of Heroes, City of Villains, and Going Rogue games. And like so many others, I could tell you about the thousands of hours I have spent there with friends, the thousands of dollars I have spent within the games, or even how this game allows my husband and I to “meet” and play nearly every night with my father in law, the retired, and multi-medaled Master Sergeant Jim Dixon formerly of Delta Force. I could even tell you how this game is the only one ever to interest him."

"I am going to make you an offer. I am a multi-award-winning, New York Times bestselling fantasy and science fiction author. And I will offer myself and my likeness to endorse and advertise, exclusively, all NCSoft products for a minimum term of five years and a maximum term of ten years, for no compensation or payment, if you will make it possible for the game and Paragon Studios (even in a reduced capacity) to continue to function, either once again under the NCSoft umbrella, or until a new owner comes forward."
"I had in mind something like this: Advertisements with a photo of myself, imposed over a transparent image of one of my more striking characters, both of us in the same pose. Text: “I am New York Times bestselling fantasy author Mercedes Lackey. Creating fantastic realms is hard work, and when I relax, I like to play in someone else’s world. I play NCSoft Games. Anything else is unimaginable.” The tagline for the ad campaign would be “NCSoft: anything else is unimaginable.”

Thanks to a threefold plan, celebrity endorsement and an inspiring degree of passion and coordination, Save Paragon City! is providing to be infinitely more than 'just another' fan campaign. We wish them the very best of success, and will keep an eye on whether NCsoft and Paragon Studios acknowledge their efforts. Naturally we've reached out to NCsoft for more than a standard form reply.

NCSoft would have to be literally insane to continue with their current plans regarding City of Heroes at this point. For that reason I am not overly hopeful...

Realistic != negative. The last reported population numbers for the game (admittedly dating back to 2009) put us at 50-60k subscribers. Post-Freedom this becomes a much harder figure to gauge since now people can (or could ) come and go as they please and even still pay money without having an active sub, but I really doubt we've returned to anything near pre-CoV levels given how old the game is.

This is actually a positive observation since it means a larger proportion of the game population has signed the petition than Adelante was suggesting, which means it should have more of an impact.

Believe in sunshine and rainbows all you want but it doesn't do anyone any good to raise expectations beyond what can realistically be expected. So quit trolling.

I'm not suggesting doing nothing but feel free to keep completely misreading me like the OP.

wait, how many petitions are going on? Would it be better to consolidate them? And probably not good to publically admit using fake names. Kind of chips at the credibility of a petition.

There's the general petition (up to 16k+ last I checked) and the petition to open source the game engine (which will never happen). Which is why I don't understand the need to make multiple threads about it.

Ooooo. I see.

Now mind you I havent read any other post yet but maybe this has or has not been addressed. Do this game really have a large enough portion to actually make it work? I mean usually when going against a corporation, especially a publically traded one, a petition usually have to have at least 40k-50k people before the secretary at the door even looks at it and about 100k before any of the decision makers even give it two seconds? I'm sure even though this decision seemed "all of a sudden" to Paragon Studio and the gaming community, Im sure they had meetings about this action with their "investors". I mean realistically, a 50k game community, when some of their other offering is multiple times larger and one that even surpassed that before being released, is small beans.
I have a feeling that the heads of NCSoft and the investors dont really give a hoot where these 30-50k players go. They know some will fuss but will buy their other offerings, and others will disappear into the night but this is after most giving, what, a few grand a piece into their pockets over the years? At this point it, they might have already figured they made a killing off us and we are no longer needed. From the past situations, this seems to be the case.

But if this petition thing do work, then it will be very national gaming community news worthy at least.
