I believe they will still get 10 merits when they are on a team when a bomb is set due to a long standing bug. **double checks logs** Yeah, a few weeks back during a raid, one guy said he wasn't getting any merits but had 10 after the bomb was planted. Unfortunately, nobody remembered the tier 4 bit at the time.

Well they had to gate something so the tossed both reward and Vanguard merits into the same Tier as lifetime Auction House, 2 Billion Inf limit and Mission Architect with Rewards. It's sort of the currency tier.

Given the -extremely limited- use of Vanguard merits I honestly don't see why it isn't made a T1 unlock.
Vanguard merits net you Vanguard costume pieces, a few temp powers, and one space increase. And one piece of shard incarnate salvage that's useless to preemies (and doesn't appear until you have your slot unlocked). it's an extremely niche currency with mostly niche purchasables.
Was Just on a raid on freedom. one of the league players said he was not getting VM. He had the welcome to vanguard badge. Do free players NOT get VM from mobs in the raid?
