New Stalker. Need Help.

Hello CoX players, I am thinking of rolling a Stalker. I mostly play Brutes but I need something a little more different. My Brute collection consist of a SS/WP, EM/INV, Fire/Stone, SS/Fire, and my newest Brute a Staff/Elec (he's only 45 at the moment). With all my previous Brutes, I have been the Tank more often then not. I've never heard of a Stalker being the Tank so I know tanking with a Stalker is out of the picture. I'm planning on rolling a StJ/SR Stalker. I attempted to roll a DM/WP Stalker when I first started playing the game but I deleted him at level 27. I'm not a high roller so if a build is posted please only use Invented Origin Enhancements. If I like this toon then I will probably IO him out with the best of the best IO's.

I'm asking the players that have had any experience with Street Justice and/or Super Reflexes to give me some Pros and Cons of the build.

Professor Smoque - Lvl 50 Fire/Fire Blaster
Little Smoquey - Lvl 50 Fire/Kin Controller
Papa Smoque - Lvl 50 Stone/Fire/Earth Tanker
Dr Smoque - Lvl 46 (Perma Bridge) Emp/Elec/Dark Defender
UnNown - Lvl 50 SS/WP Brute

Pros:
-your tier 9 in StJ crits
-StJ has wonderful animations and sounds
-SR will easily allow you reach the softcap with an inexpensive build
-SR has a +recharge power, scaling resistance and comprehensive DDR

Cons:
-Nothing really for StJ, a well put together set
-SR => no heal (though you can take aid self)
-overall => no endurance management tools. If you're not going to be getting a numina's or miracle, this could provide some issues. Otherwise a great combo that you'll probably have a lot of fun with.

I would recommend you buy the stalker ATO proc and slot it in Assassin strike. It will put you in a hidden state right after using assassins strike, allowing you to crit with whatever you choose to followup with (tier 9 It's a game changer in my opinion.

Also keep in mind the new Stalker ATO is nice as well.

SR seems hit or miss for people -- I'm personally not a fan since it doesn't have any utility of any form or fashion other than a +rech power.

StJ is just awesome

If you're looking for something different from your brutes I'd recommend going for /ninjitsu instead of /SR since Stalkers are the only ones that have access to that set.

If you are confident with superior reflexes.....then go for it....i normaly do not recommned it for a player who has not played a stalker before.....because all you will have is defense.....not much else....and its kind of...oh hum...for play.

I usualy recommend Ninjutsu or Willpower....as Ninjutsu will give you the defenses just like superior reflexes...but also give you a self heal and some other useful abilities....that you can decide to get or drop.

Street Justice is an interesting set on stalkers...you will be missing like one attack with it....truly i dont miss it....combo wise....you will be still doing alot of damage with it...and building the stalker focus...giving you more rapid damage then your average brute.

For me I felt I should take all 9 of the powers...which i tend to use alot...as sometimes some of the attacks are just not ready to use again very fast...so the other attacks are there to help build the combo level and focus level.

I am actualy not surprised that you deleted the DM/WP stalker....based on what you play it probably felt slow to you...damage wasnt really there and you ran out of energy alot...i dont know why but Dark Melee on stalkers does consume alot of energy and does seam a bit sluggish...also never liked the animations as much personaly.

That doesnt mean i dont have a stalker with dark melee...just means i have not played that character as much as i could.

If you're new to Stalkers and just want defense so you can focus on your attacks, Super Reflexes is the way to go. Can easily softcap your positional defenses and has amazing Defense Debuff Resistance. Very easy to play and won't stress you out.

However, /Nin has good damage mitigation, though it lacks the defense safety that /SR has. Caltrops is really, really good to keep them off you, and Blinding Powder is pretty sweet.

If you want to just enjoy without worry, go with /SR. If you want a bit of a challenge, go /Nin.

Honestly, there are not many cons to this combo except for the psionic hole, enemies with autohit and boredom. Not a lot poses a problem and you will end up having a kamikaze mentality. First one in, take the alpha and 1-shot, 1-shot, 2-shot, 1 shot, 2-shot, 3-shot, 1-shot, 1-shot, 2-shot everything to death. It becomes pretty mind numbing.

Build for a good regen and with the IO set bonus change coming up in i24, you may be able to get some decent damage resist numbers. Incarnates can easily fix any problems you may have with the build.

"The best defense is a good offense" but the defense alone is not all that bad to begin with.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions.

I am going to add Aid Self into the build, so if I happen to get hit then I'll heal myself and get right back in the fight.

I do have a question though:

Since I have never played a defense only power set, will Stj/SR be heavy on endurance or will a couple Performance Shifter: Chance for +Endurance procs and the Miracle: +Recovery proc take care of any endurance problems I am having?

Your endurance will depend on your attack chain. If you just use random attacks now and then, it should be enough. But if you're following a DPS chain, you might want to consider slotting for more endurance on your toggles, provided it doesn't cause significant decrease of your defense.

Now you have heard of it. My Energy Melee/SR stalker sits darn near soft-capped at any moment and way above it when he clicks Shadow Meld. I once teamed with some friends doing some AE arcs and discovered I was the only melee toon there. The mission difficulty was set a bit high for the team (some of whom were only in their 20s, level-wise) and we often lost one or two as we moved from group to group.

Guess who tanked and didn't drop below half HP, not even once?

I agree. Stalkers can tank in a team without a tank. A softcapped Stalker will be the focus of an AV because of the high damage they put in. I've done it many times, and it's hilarious...till they hit you...Then it isn't so funny anymore...

Truthfully, I've yet to try and tank an AV... I can imagine it'd go something like that, like riding a scooter through 75 mph traffic: a great ride until something bad happens; then you're just a little grease spot.
